Very kindly provided us with a cup of tea despite the fact that they were looking to close up at lunchtime. This is a small but very nice quiet place to relax and browse.

This place is a lovely little Gluten free Cafe tucked away in the alleyway opposite St Nicks Church. If you have a gluten Allergy, this place is perfect, they are very careful with cross contamination issues, with signs on the door requesting that customers do not bring in any opened food. I actually feel safe eating here because of that!! they really take it seriously. It's also a Christian bookshop with lots of gifts and trinkets on sale too.

This Christian cafe is warm and welcoming. Tucked away in a narrow walkway between major streets in downtown Newbury, this cafe is a delightful find. Coffee drinks are made to order and there are pastries and more, all gluten free. The cheese scone was baked to perfection. There are cards, books, and other gifts, mostly geared toward the Christian giver. Staff are kind and priced are low. Worth finding!

I found this gem a few days ago and have been back twice since. As I work across the road this is a great place to grab a gluten free cake to go with my lunch. Love this cute cafe so much!

This independent cafe is a hidden gem. Really good homemade gluten free cakes (I wouldn’t have known the coffee and walnut cake was GF) and excellent coffee. Staffed by friendly helpful ladies. Would happily make a return visit to try their homemade soup. By the way, take no notice of the silly comments about shoes by an earlier reviewer - Shoemaker’s is definitely a cafe, not a cobbler’s shop! It’s their review which is cobblers :-)

Seconds off the Market Place and Bartholomew St, Shoemakers is tucked in a small arcade between the two. There is normally a table free either inside or out if the weathers dry. A great stop off for good, basic teas and coffees, and home baked goodies and light lunches at non-chain prices. Relaxing and refreshingly independent with polite & friendly service.

Seriously delicious proper home-made cakes in a tiny café with a couple of outside spaces which are bliss on a hot day. Friendly, peaceful atmosphere. Fully independent, local, very reasonably priced, centrally located (in the pretty alleyway between St Nicolas' church and the Market Place): fantastic. Also sells books, children's books, music, cards and posters.

Shoemakers is actually a café & Christian bookshop. A friend introduced it to me & I go there as often as I can. If you're visiting Newbury and want a light snack or some yummy cake do try! There are always a gr8 selection of home made soups accompanied by their also home made bread. The humus is lovely & crunchy and there are a range of hot and cold sarnies and the - once again - homemade cakes are divine. A range of hot & cold drinks is available and if you need a greetings card or special present you can browse while you wait for food. There are also outside tables. Prices very reasonable as I believe it's not for profit. It's definitely a gr8 place to pop into if you don't want to be away from the shops for long, or just relax and enjoy.

Lovely sunny garden with plenty of seating and shade. Excellent varied menu from which I chose the smoked salmon and then a ribeye steak. My partner had pigeon and then monk fish all of which arrived piping hot and was very tasty - we cleared our plates! Definitely would recommend this pub both for a drink and for food. The garden is lovely, they are dog friendly and the interior has had a stylish makeover which makes sitting inside a pleasure

A great place for a Sunday roast. The teepee out the back is huge (at least the size of the pub itself) and well worth taking a look at if not having a drink or two in it in very comfortable seats/sofas. There are two large screens in there to watch sport and on a match night would be a great atmosphere.

I came here late on a Friday with a bunch of (around 30) colleagues from a circus production company. The place only had 1 member of staff serving as they had sent the others home because it was quiet (prior to our arrival). Have to say that the guys serving us dealt with the sudden influx of theatre folk brilliantly. Everyone had an excellent few hours here and the cocktails were ace.
