Shoe Makers, Hungry Horse in Norwich

Terrible service, we had tesco vouchers to use in your venue! We were told you can't use that because you're ordering off the classics menu. We are aware that you lose your deal, but we still wish to use our Tesco vouchers as we'd already spent them on the app for hungry horse. I will be contacting your head office corporate number, as we were happy to redeem our voucher and pay the difference. The tall gentleman with dark hair and broken English accent was mildly rude and not helpful at all. The young lad who was also away to that evening only reconfirmed that I wasn't allowed to use my voucher which I found again infuriating as I was. I have contacted Tesco's and they have said I am allowed to use the voucher but would not get the benefit of the 2-4-1 meal, which we were happy with!

I recently visited the shoemakers with family and had the best experience. Not only was the food tasty and great value for money the customer service was impeccable. A particular mention to Harrison for his friendly welcome and service throughout our visit. Thanks again!

The whole place was filthy, front door dirty as you walk in, tables sticky and not cleaned properly, chairs dirty, the cutlery disgusting, had difficulty finding clean ones. Toilets not been cleaned for couple of days by looks of it. Will not visit again and definitely do not recommend. Needs complete refurbishment

It's ok. Food is good enough as you would expect from a large chain. Good selection on the menu. Not a hugely interesting selection of beers. Staff are friendly enough, but often have a look on their face like they are looking forward to going home. The place is ideal for families and get togethers etc.

Staff always friendly and polite, if food isn’t ever up to scratch for us they are more then happy to change it

The food was good there were queues waiting to get served the young more should be given a medal as he was left to do all the work,carlesberg was £4.10 which by today's prices was verygood the pineapple juice out of a cheap carton was a disgusting £3.10 I had a piece of cake which wouldn't fill a mouse and it cost £5.10 so improvements could be made especially the decor

Came in for breakfast AND dinner and both times were 10/10, the breakfast was just what you need after a Saturday night and the mix it up was perfect, steak was cooked perfectly the fries were lovely and crispy honestly couldn't fault a thing and the staff were so sociable and lovely would definitely recommend

Popped in for breakfast this morning before abit of shopping I had a full English it was lovely an fufilled the needs, to the point I thought we'd come back for dinner I had the steak sizzler this does come with mushrooms an cheese ontop of the steak but I decided to have it without, the food was absurlutely lovely, the vibe between the customers an the staff is great there is lots of parking an a park available for the kids 10/10 we visited from kings lynn an will definitely come back again soon, thank you to all the staff was a great meal 🙂

It was my daughters birthday, we came for a meal at the lovely Shoe Makers. Staff were amazing, Harrison, Bradley and Cleo, especially Harrison, going above and beyond, food and service was amazing, everything was spot on and how it should be when you go to a restaurant. Harrison was interacting with my children making them laugh and making the night more special. Harrison and Cleo brought out the dessert with candles and sang Happy Birthday. Play area outside was enjoyed too. Such a lovely perfect evening, thank you so so much. See you soon.

I was meant to write a review back in January but forgot and have since been back in. Both times we've had a great experience, food has been lovely and at a great price. First time we come, I noticed Harrison - management who was working hard in all areas, this is unusual to see for management. I spoke to Harrison about this and had a lovely conversation, great asset to the team. 2nd time coming the main manager was really helpful and friendly when ordering food and had another great time, waitresses were working hard and great service. Thank you very much.

A Welcoming Local with Outstanding Service, but Inconsistent Food I've been a regular at The Shoemakers in Norwich, near Asda on Hall Road, for the past four years, and the front-of-house team never fails to impress. The staff are genuinely welcoming, and they always remember my usual order—a rare touch of personal service for a chain pub. Bradley and Harrison, in particular, stand out, though I'd happily commend the entire team for their excellent hospitality. However, the food remains hit or miss. While I’ve had some good meals here, inconsistency in quality lets the experience down. Greene King could certainly step up their game in this regard. That said, the service alone makes it worth a visit. Four stars—entirely for the fantastic front-of-house team.

Lovely time with my family here today, great atmosphere and fantastic staff. One stood out in particular and I think he was part of the management team wearing a white shirt.

First time visiting shoe makers. Young boy on the bar was very polite and had lovely manners. My fosters shandy was amazing and the chicken strips and bbq sauce satisfied my taste buds. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. 🙂

Having never visited this establishment before, I have to admit the food here is absolutely fantastic. Great service and exceptional value. We were made to feel very welcome. Friendly staff and great management. Would definitely recommend coming again and would recommend it to others as well. Ordered the chicken skewers (southern fried) with chips and coleslaw, which was beautiful , the chicken was very succulent indeed. Amazing food for the price, excellent service by the staff team throughout the evening, really enjoyed my food on this Thursday evening. Fully recommend this place to anyone as it’s cheap and the quality of food is amazing, plus they do amazing deals. Thankyou Shoemakers.

Good value food , we had fish and chips and mushroom and ale pie . Staff were friendly. Atmosphere pleasant and snug and warm ; we visited mid afternoon on a Monday. Will visit again!

Me and my partner came here on Valentine’s Day and we were absolutely satisfied with everything we were welcomed by two waiters who were absolutely amazing!! They were very lovely and made us feel comfortable and were making conversation which was really nice as not many waiters communicate with you! Food was absolutely lovely filled me up right away and was so tasty!! Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff and incredible food!!

Tea tasted like limescale, steak was meant to be rare but was well done, the menu bigs the food up big time but delivery is weak. I was passing through today with wifey on way back home to London. We won't be back place is dead

I am only basing this review on todays food as we have never had a bad experience until today … Bar staff lovely as ever but food was diabolical today we waited over a hour for our food and once we got it it was slapped together plate was covered in grease and food was cold and was not very nice at all we got a free drink to keep us with a drink while waiting but the quality of food was awful and like I said we have never ever had a bad experience like that from there until today and we are in there a lot due to it being our regular

Table for 12 was booked in person to manager week before. Email reminding of booking sent that day.arrived to find no table available until we moved tables and chairs around ourselves to accommodate us.very upsetting and dissatisfied as was a birthday meal

Went to shoemaker today for lunch, it was £5 pound deal day we had cheese burger and chicken burger both were lovely. We met a lovely lady called Sandra who worked in the kitchen well done to them all, meals are always well cooked can't think of a nicer place to enjoy a meal out always very good value.

Nice place, conveniently located. Food quality is at the level you'd expect from a HH, but sadly the service is lacking. Waited 50 minutes on my last visit for a bowl of chips. Would use it more if improved

What can I say, ordered meal at bar, no beef roast at 1pm on a Sunday, but settled for turkey, 25 minutes after ordering enquired where the food was, assured it was being plated right then, but took its time, seems the order had literally just landed in the kitchen 8 minutes before we asked where it was, how is that? Ordered extra cauliflower cheese it was alright roasties were small and probably a bit under done ordered extra spuds, still small and pig in blankets came out in my husbands meal and not.mine and a sausage short was assured they'd bring another portion only to bring 1 sausage to make the portion. Asked for extra hot meals, not bad they were hot enough for me to not make any further complaints, oh and it was freezing in there I had to have.my coat on my lap to keep me warm, toilets were a bit yucky 2 out of the 4 were clogged with wee and paper, hubby had a pudding and then we left, caution to people you get what you pay for, more like a school dinner than a restaurant meal, won't go there again for a while, probably great for a snack or burger or fish finger and chips for the kids

This restaurant has SO much potential to smash it, but I felt tonight they were very understaffed. There was a lot of tissues, and food on the floors, being a family establishment it wasn't pleasant to take my 2 young girls to, there were multiple tables that needed clearing and wiping. I can honestly say I saw a maximum of 5 front of house staff running the place on a Saturday evening. Dealing with food and serving drink orders and delivering food. I want to say they were all very dedicated, welcoming, and lovely. The food we received was not quite up to standard but was soon rectified on good terms. The staff here are doing a really great job, but please get them more help! 🙏🏼

Very disappointed to say the least. 10 of us on a Sunday evening spending £150 on food alone ALL meals came out Luke warm/cold. Sat quite near kitchen area, could hear lots of foul language and inappropriate so called joking coming from the kitchen! Nobody came out once to see if meals were ok hence didn’t complain at the time We are not a prudish family by any means but the stuff coming from the kitchen ( not only the food) was unacceptable

I have just had a MIX IT UP steak sizzler at The Shoemakers. I can honestly say that the steak was better than a well known Steak House located in Norwich!!! The service was provided by friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Also good value for money.

Went in for a meal with the mrs on monday night and could not recommend enough! Value for money was top notch and an extra thank you goes to Harrison who could not have been more helpful. Made it a fun and memorable experience, will definitely be back!

We had a terrible experience here. We waited for absolutely ages to receive our food. We planned to go shopping at the Asda nearby after eating, but they were closed once we were finished here as they took so long. For desert (which also took an age to arrive), we ordered a vegan apple crumble but what we got was a regular apple crumble containing dairy. We do not eat dairy. Unfortunately we only noticed after eating several spoonfuls. The staff member we spoke to was nice and offered to refund our main and drinks and replace the desert. We agreed and were handed a refund receipt yet almost two weeks later, the money was never received. This place is truly terrible and appears to have gone downhill massively. The cutlery is also in an absolutely vial state with food stuck to it.

Lovely meal with the family. Sandra in the kitchen made sure everything was perfect for us. Will return soon!

I had the pleasure of dining at the Shoemakers with my grandparents, and it was a lovely experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and impeccable service. The food was delicious and my grandparents were particularly impressed. Special mention must go to Harrison, who not only provided flawless service but also went out of his way to make our experience extra special. His friendly demeanour and helpful recommendations made it even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy a good meal with excellent service.

We have had a booking and pre-order booked here for a very very long time,, we don’t usually complain or write bad feedback but we generally feel robbed of our money this year at your restaurant! We all paid in full and had our choices way in before your deadline. On the day we were mixed up with other guests.! Our food came to the wrong table, was left on the table and then brought to us once they realised they had mixed up tables! The food had gotten cold as we had waited a very long time already! We know a lot of the food is frozen and just reheated but still would’ve expected slightly better quality as it was Christmas Day and we were paying a lot more than usual! The staff and waitresses were all over the place and seemed to lack any care for the customers sitting in their restaurant We know it’s busy and a busy time of year but just being friendly doesn’t go a miss. This has really put me and my mum and my whole family off coming back here even for a regular meal :(

After booking and paying nearly £60 each we were expecting a lovely meal. How wrong we were. We booked and paid in full at the time of booking in November. Chose our food menu a week later and was told in person by the man in the pub that we were all done and look forward to seeing you on Christmas Day. 1 week before Christmas we received a phone call stating that we hadn’t paid and we hadn’t chosen our meal choices and if we don’t do them by today our table would be cancelled and deposit lost. After explaining that we had done all of that they said ok and goodbye. Seemed like it was off to a bad start. Christmas Day came and all seemed to be ok, when it came to the food arriving, there was clearly some mixups going on and the young lady brining our food looked flustered. She was the only person we saw bringing out the food and it wasn’t delivered together, there was lengthy delays between food being delivered and other tables were being served all at different times with lots of half tables eating while others weren’t. There was a lot of shouting coming from the kitchen area (I’m ok with this as I’m sure it’s a stressful day) but clearly there had been some mistakes made. Regardless of all of that, customers paying nearly £60 per person expect a lot more from a service point of view. Staff were friendly enough and the food was good. But there was quite clearly a lack of management and direction on the day. I wouldn’t rebook for a Christmas lunch but I would pop in for a different occasion.

What a lovely pub to stop off whilst we were passing by on Boxing Day after the local NCFC football match. A hidden gem of a pub. Very pleasant helpful landlord Kev. Very nice pub food at great prices. And this pub is spotlessly clean and warm too. Very nice thank you.

Walked in at 8pm on Boxing Day and Kevin was so warm, welcoming and lovely. We got good quality food at a great price.

Service was so slow and overcomplicated for what it was. We ordered two of the same steaks and they somehow came out as different meals. And not only that the steaks were absolutely terrible and not cooked to how we had asked them to be cooked. The plates were burnt and had old food stuck to them. How that can pass an inspection, I don’t know.

Amazing experience today, myself & my partner both had roast beef, both cooked perfectly, staff are friendly & attentive. We wasn't keen to return after a bad experience, but today has reassured us, we will be back Sophie & George were exceptional

My friend and I visited for lunch after doing some shopping. We were greeted by friendly staff who although were the only two on table duties served us a delicious meal on hot plates. There was a very friendly atmosphere there. I recommend and would go again.
