Shish Meze Restaurant in Havering

I’m a foodie by nature, I love trying new foods and restaurants. I’ve been to numerous restaurants and I must say that Shish is by far the BESTTTTTT I’ve been to. The food was delicious and aromatic, and the staff was very welcoming and polite.

Went here for a bit of lunch, service was good, starters were really nice however I had ordered the ribeye steak medium rare however it arrived rare and the chips it came with were extremely salty to the point it was inedible, this is the reason for the 1 star being dropped, the waiter didn't check in once the mains arrived and everyone seemed more interested in a larger table. As for the atmosphere when I initially walked in it was nice however as after a few moments the music went extremely loud to the point I couldn't hear the person I was sat next to without them shouting. Prices on the menus were very misleading as well, it showed 25 next to the steak but on the bill it came at 45, meaning the menu was showing 25 over a base price. And it definitely was not worth 45 for that mains.

The food was delicious and the service excellent, we had a lovely time thank you Also we were touched by the former owners photo who we knew from oh my cod which hung price of place at the back of the restaurant

I visited this restaurant with a group of friends, expecting a lovely evening out, but we were met with a series of service failures that overshadowed our meal. Initially, things seemed promising with prompt service at the bar, but the moment we were seated for dinner, the problems began. Firstly, the rush to take our order immediately after handing us menus was bewildering – we hadn't even had a moment to glance at our options. Throughout the evening, the lack of attention continued; not once were we asked if we wanted more drinks. After our meals arrived, we spent a full hour with dirty plates in front of us and no offer to refresh our drinks unless we flagged down a server ourselves. The frustration peaked when, after finally getting new drinks, we waited yet another half hour just to place a dessert order. Eventually, we were so exasperated that we decided against dessert and asked for the bill – which, ironically, was the quickest service we received all night. To add insult to injury, as we were paying, the server had us double-check the bill calculations ourselves, which felt highly unprofessional and demeaning. Although the food was excellent – hot and well-prepared – the dismal service completely ruined our experience. We left feeling neglected and undervalued, and we have all agreed that we will not be returning. This restaurant needs a serious overhaul in customer service training and management.

Visited last night for the sister in-laws birthday. Stylish place, and very busy. staff are great and friendly(the doorman also warned us not to park on the single yellow line as the traffic wardens were ticketing people, so thank you). Food was absolutely lovely. The issue 2 things I can say that knocked it a little, the timing of the food coming out, 5 of us eating and one starter took ages. Then I had my steak come out quite a bit earlier than the rest of the mains. And also (not too sound old but the music,although OK was a bit too loud so we found ourselves having to talk really loud across the table. Otherwise a great place

Absolutely amazing service from Owayes and team and stunning food! Had a party of 23 people and they served us all on time, drinks were never empty and not a single person had a bad word to say about anything!

Nice place parking can because problem food good bit on expensive side staff friendly and helpful maybe a little to quick to clear plates but pleasant evening

Food is fantastic & staff very friendly & helpful. However, we had a large table - & did feel a little pressured to leave towards the end of our 2 hours time slot. It is also quite expensive. It's an ideal venue for special occasions!

The only thing that justifies 2 stars (as opposed to none) is food. The food is good. Once it reaches you, which, as we observed with two neighbouring tables, doesn't always happen when the couples got up and left having waited in vain for a waiter to take their orders. Our experience upstairs was awful: tables packed in like sardines, bright spotlights, not particularly clean (tip: dim the lights a bit and it'll be more bearable), waiters clearly short-staffed and overworked... We had a reservation, but ended up waiting 30mins to get a table. When we were finally invited to our table in the mezzanine area it turned out the table hadn't even been cleared, so we had to stand there in the corner waiting for the staff to wipe down the table. Getting attention of the few waiters serving a lot of tables was impossible. The following day, on 9 March, I received the usual "how was your experience?" email. I duly completed it and shared my feedback. A few hours later I received a reply: "I am equally disappointed with your experience here at Shish Meze Restaurant Hornchurch as you are. It is simply not what you should expect from us. Given you took time out of your day to provide feedback, it gives me hope that there is a chance to win you back and make this right. I'd like you to know that hospitality and making my guests happy is important to me, and I do not take negative feedback lightly. Please allow me some time to regroup with my team to further look into your experience." That was the last I heard from the restaurant. It's been three weeks and they're clearly still "regrouping" :)

Dined here for my birthday and the food was amazing, very generous and pocket friendly for the service delivered. Will definitely go back. Thanks

We have now been to Shish Meze three times, but will prob not return on a Saturday night. The food and service were excellent as usual, the bread and my beautifully seasoned mixed kebab being highlights. However, the Saturday night experience included loud music (we were moved to a different table but it was only marginally better). Then a singer started, in tune etc but not what we were expecting. Some will love this and feel it enhances their night out, we didn't expect it as it wasn't mentioned anywhere and it hadn't been like this on other visits. The couple we went with, but we hardly got to speak to, felt the same. We'll ask before we book on any other night, and won't be going back on a Saturday again.

I had read the reviews before I booked and all of them said the food was very good so I thought this is where I want my birthday meal with friends. I also noted that a lot of the reviews said that the service was bad but I thought I’ll decide for myself. The food was absolutely lovely and the service was very good too. The decor was smart and the atmosphere was good so I would highly recommend and look forward to returning soon with family. Enjoy, we did.

Incredible experience from start to finish. They so made alterations for us as we were running late bless them. My boyfriend and I booked a table for our 10 year anniversary on Monday 15th, as soon as we arived we had such a warm friendly welcome from all staff, congratulations from the host/concierge and prossecco upon arrival balloons on our table and a quiet lovely setting. The decor is so pretty with all of the flowers and gorgeous lights and the customer service is second to none! Absolutely attentive wait staff nothing was too much trouble who made our night incredibly special. Food was amazing! I had the pork chops which were delicious! My partner had the chicken and beef shish also so flavoursome. Cocktails were fantastic especially the lychee one! They made our evening even more special by taking pictures revomendibg cocktails and having great bants. everyone was incredibly attentive and we has the best night ever! They went absolutely above and beyond. They also bought out our cake and just made a huge fuss. Thankyou to Shish Meze for a beautiful night ! Music was bomblasting woman was told turn it down her live performance and she turned it up and continued for ages gave us a bloody headache with her yodelling couldn’t even speak don’t bring her back because I deffo ain’t coming back

First time visiting and well impressed, definitely I will be coming back.

First visit here in a long time. Table booked for 8.30, was told on entry that we would be seated in ten minutes so can we wait in the bar. Bar was rammed, couldn’t get a drink, half an hour later still not able to be seated. No apology and more people coming in behind being told the same thing. Grossly overbooked which is just greedy, give proper service instead of trying to cram as many people in as you can. Not prepared to wait so went elsewhere. I eat out with my friends in Hornchurch all the time but will not be returning or giving any recommendations.

Table was booked for 7:30 but we were told on arrival it would be 10 minutes as they were running late. We were sat at our table 30 minutes later. Bread and dips came out then mains came over which were not ours, despite us saying the mains weren’t ours they prematurely cleared away the bread when we were still eating it. Our actual mains then arrived with 2 missing, by the time they turned up we had finished eating leaving 2 friends eating on their own. Drinks were very slow to come out and we received our food before drinks. They then gave us attitude when they were asked to remove the service charge. Shambles of a restaurant! However the food was nice I’ll give them that.

Foods lovely, staffs lovely, not over strict on what you wear. Lived in Hornchurch for ages and always mean to pop in here. Glad I did. Only thing I’d say is my passion fruit mocktail was ram with ice. I took 2 sips and it was literally finished, which for £9 a mocktail is a bit annoying. But that’s my only negative view, which probably can be amended by asking for no or less ice. Will definitely return.

I don’t know what happened tonight but the music was absolutely horrendous I get it’s live entertainment but I could get this at the local pub. Food was good though but damn it was so loud and off pitch it was like a pub crawl karaoke night! Honestly disappointed!

We had a table booked for 8pm and at 8.20 we asked how long it would be, they said not too long, finally got our table at 8-45, no apologies at all. Ordered our food and a bottle of wine, that was just put on our table without even being opened. Food came but separately, miserable staff will definitely not be returning.

I have been to Shish Meze on quite a few occasions. Honestly by far the best restaurant in Hornchurch. Everything is 5 star from the moment you walk in. Other restaurants in Hornchurch should take note.

The food was mouth watering, our waiter was great and the atmosphere and decor was lovely, the lady singing was nice she could sing but it just a bit load and at times it felt like we were shouting at each other on our table

Overpriced for what it is, falafels were small and didn't taste home made, everything was just Overpriced, won't stop any of them towie kind of people going though, all show no go

This Turkish restaurant stands out as the priciest in the area, despite the fact that the taste is indistinguishable, given that many establishments source their food from the same three companies in London. During a visit with a group of twelve, we requested some bread, and surprisingly, the waiter insisted we place our entire order first, as if we were planning to consume the bread and then leave without ordering. The staff's behavior was quite rude.

The young girl working at the front desk with gold hoop earrings was so friendly and welcoming she made my 2 year anniversary even more happy, customer service was above and beyond great restaurant

Been meaning to go there for a while. we went New Years eve, so maybe different on a normal day..Service was poor, it was busy, but there were plenty of staff, just poorly organised. Our waiter was very nice though. I found the place pretentious, over rated,and over priced. The food was good though. Just expensive for a kebab. There was a man on the door,not sure his job, whether security or manager. He made me feel very awkward,almost like he was looking you up and down to see if you were good enough to visit his kebab restaurant. This is a popular place , so maybe I am wrong. Happy New year

Visited here with friends, as we have done previously. Not disappointed, as the food and service was exceptional as usual.

Food is ok, obviously we are in Hornchurch and not Green lanes so no platters are on offer and portions are quite small. The service on Friday was very slow. Took us almost 2 hours to be seated. The singer was great and the atmosphere was good. The saddest thing is the council have the traffic wardens hiding in bushes and ticketing cars at 9pm at night. Very desperate!

Absolutely rubbish service. Booked a table for 8.30pm and at 9.51pm still waiting! Told different things by different staff members and absolutely shocking. Shockingly ridiculous as it is clearly is just a matter of booking in as many people as possible and then making them wait! Would NEVER visit this place again and recommend avoiding unless you have endless amounts of time to wait!

The food was good, didn't blow my mind (I would say decent for Turkish food) We were all happy with the service 5/5. The music was a little too loud, we all needed to raise the voice in conversation.

Been here a few times and had a great time and enjoyed lovely food. However my most recent experience was very poor. Even with a table reservation, we were not seated until 45 mins later and with no real updates in between about why it was taking so long. There were so many others waiting that were in the same boat as us, saying they had been waiting up to an hour. Someone obviously messed up their booking system and there were way more people than they could handle. Once we were finally seated, the service was efficient and food was great.

I went to celebrate my birthday. Staff were very attentive. Quick service. Food was great.

Booked a table for 20:15. By 20:35 we were still not seated and due to a large group the bar area was full. When the group were sat my wife went to the bar and was completely ignored for a further 5 minutes as the bar staff made drinks for table orders only. Blatantly could not cope with how busy they were, no sign of our table being ready pushing half an hour after we'd booked, couldn't get a drink at the bar so left. Every cloud though, called our favourite restaurant and they said to come over and they'd make room for us straightaway, which they did, and we had a lovely meal. Shame it wasn't where we intended it to be.

We went to the restaurant for my daughters birthday, she is five months pregnant and we all went as a large family of 13 people.We was sat at the side in the part that is the extension on the side, it was very cold, with a bad draft blowing through the seat onto my daughters back, we had to ask the waiter to put the heaters on which he did. Our table was booked for 7:30, we was served a drink by about 8:15 but by 8:30 we still hadn’t been asked what food we wanted to order. We asked to order our food on numerous occasions but was told ‘yep we are coming’ . The restaurant was busy but we wasnt served our food until at least 9:30-9:45 that’s two hours to wait for food, with young children! That’s far too long! When we told the waiter he just said ‘ you’ve got to expect to wait because we are busy!!! Well I won’t be rushing back there that’s for sure! Food is average, and if it’s busy, take a pillow with you!!!! Rather go Marleys down the road👌🏼

Decors cool been here a few times before, it's been heavily refurbed from what it was. Quite overpriced for what it is. Got a parking ticket for parking on the road. Note to the management - you should really tell your guests on arrival, or have some signage to inform guests that parking on the street will incur a fine! Peak end experience.

Great food, friendly helpful staff. We did find the music got turned up a little high for us chatting, staff addressed this.

Several times we have visit this place but this time we're disappointed. Arrived at 7pm and finished with food by 8pm, were pushed to leave a table even still had half bottle of wine left. Felt very unwelcome and rushed at this point. Waiter were miserable and i was surprised that at this late Saturday night were so many young children in he venue. Music were too loud… barely could hear each other… Also food was ok… I would like to wish you to pay more attention to customer service, restaurant cleanliness and atmosphere in the future. Lovely food.serice was very good. I just don't agree with the service charge ,especially what they were asking for.

Mixed kebab was good, but the lamb shish was very chewy & the adana doesn't have enough herb seasoning. The chicken kebab was perfect. All salads we're good as was the bread & dips & the golden cheese pastry The menus need replacing as getting old & tatty & the loos could do with a deep clean lots of dust on the radiators & the floor didn't look as clean as it should be maybe instead of loads of staff doing not a lot lunchtime they could have someone looking after the facilities

Went for my wife's birthday, what a great night the food was first class cocktails the best I've had (old fashion 10 out of 10)live entertainment.The staff polite friendly and professional. If you are going there weekend make sure you book a table. Highly recommended

Was a good Friday night, had a nice lady singing songs for entertainment. We could sing along too them as they were popular ones, the lamb chop was lush.

Good Food Its Busy Better organisation and service from vendor if your table is not ready you can't order a drink from bar unless a waiter takes your order then you have to pay chip and pin for it. It just doesn't work!!! Extra dips are expensive!! Wouldn't rush back

Went last night. Good was above average and prices were high. Good service but was disappointed to see thst when we asked for more bread we were charged £3 for it. They had also slipped in a 10% service charge. Good but overpiced I thought.

Come here yesterday for a birthday dinner, I had the seafood mixed grill which was quite nice but would of been good if it come with rice or fries. We was on a table right next to the live band which was a horrible experience...

Good atmosphere & added bonus with the magic show! Average food, the starters were the best thing. Note there is little to no parking available.

If you’re thinking to go, just do it! Their food is amazing. It was my second time going and the food was just as good as the first time. The wait time isn’t long and their staff are extremely friendly (They also serve complimentary bread and it’s honestly the best bread I’ve ever had)

We had the lunchtime menu @ £14.95 which was really nice and good value with decent size portions. They didn't offer bulgar wheat instead of rice which was a little disappointing but that wouldn't stop me returning. Definitely worth a visit
