Shirley Cafe in Croydon

We visit mostly on Sunday lunchtimes. The menu is really varied. You get huge portions! Just like home cooked food - cost is reasonable - love it!

I visit regularly,So I thought I'll invite a few a my Taxi driver friends to try this fantastic place out. Wel! they were very impressed with how fresh and tasty the food is, We didn't wait long and there was nothing left on the plates. We ordered breakfasts, burgers and chicken dishes. Unfortunately we was enjoying it so much we forgot to take photos but rest assured Shirley Cafe is worth a visit. My Taxi friends will be make it a goto place for great fresh quality reasonably priced food. As usual the staff are very friendly great hygiene very clean toilets.

i took my addult son for brunch in April this month, as we were looking to see if it was dog friendly ,as he has a new pup , and if it was as good as it used to be . Unfortunately it failed on both counts . We both had a sort of big breakfast, im a pescatarian , so i had a veggie breakfast, and my son had a Full English . The mushrooms were tinned, and so were the tomatoes, and it tasted like they were from cheaper suppliers. Ihad been to this cafe a bout 6 years ago with my partner and it was gorgeous then, id say easily the best cafe in that part of the Wickham Road , but unfortunately both my son and I felt it had gone downhill .

Great all round cafe. I go here all the time. There are a few metrics i usually use to measure cafes. Sausage quality, coffee quality and can they make eggs with runny yolks. The sausages here are a really nice quality for a cafe. The coffee is better than most coffee shops, they do flavoured ones if you have a sweet tooth as well. The yolks are pretty much always runny (if that’s how you want them). The staff are really nice and the cafe is fresh and clean with a nice atmosphere. Also the toilets are spotless.

Great coffee, great service. Found a sunny little spot outside for a COVID-safe catch up. Looking forward to a return visit when restrictions lifted.

Lovely Service, with very good portions, at reasonable prices. There is always something to be said for restaurants that are always busy, and this is one such example. Highly recommended.

Good cafe which has had a face lift, clean and pleasant. Ordered the avocado with poached eggs with bacon on the side, perfectly cooked runny yoke crispy bacon as asked for, small side salad. Very tasty, 7 of us it total and all the plates were cleared, no just because we were hungry! They only take cash and you have to order from the counter but these aren’t deal breakers and still deserve 5 stars.

This is a local neighbourhood cafe, whose unassuming outside belies a great modern menu. Went for breakfast and good choice of traditional full English and more modern options ie eggs benny or all manner of avocado. I opted for avocado and poached eggs, lovely presentation on brown bread, and avocado really tasty and ripe. Prices reasonable and service prompt and efficient.

One of the best cafes in Croydon. I love the Mediterranean breakfast!!, always helpful, only downside is parking is a pain (it's Croydon, what do you expect). Staff are helpful, service is good, can be slow but only because it gets really busy in this cafe so choose your arrival time carefully, i am a strong believer if locals and builder use a cafe it must be good.

Had cooked breakfast here for 2nd time. Top food, nice comfortable place and quick service. Look forward to coming back as I could ask for more when lunch hour time is limited, and sometimes a mad rush.

A friendly cafe on shirley road. Polite staff and good food. as you can see from the picture a good portion of food and tasted good, little more expensive than a cafe down the road. as it was £6.20 here and around £5 down the road. I would visit again.

I've been going to this cafe for a few years I thought it's time to write a review

Thought I'd check this cafe out as my friend kept telling me how great this cafe is and he wasn't wrong, upon arrival i was greeted by a very friendly waitress, I ordered a cappuccino and breakfast salad with extra smoked salmon, the cappuccino was a real good coffee, you can taste the quality beans they are using, the breakfast salad was very good, everything had so much flavour and taste, made with love. Well done to all the Shirley cafe team.

Been going to Shirley cafe now for a number of years, found it one Sunday morning on route to relatives because my children were feeling hungry,

I've been here before for a breakfast and it's always been ok. Today the bacon was pretty tasteless and he quality of the sausages were diabolical to the point where I literally felt sick. The waitresses clear the tables while you are still eating which I hate. I think this place may be under new management as I did not recognise the staff. Previous staff were nicer and more friendly. Also I don't consiser it to be cheap either. I walked out of there smelling like a deep fat fryer. Maybe the extractor fans weren't working? I will not be returning based on my experience today.

The cafe was fairly full ( a good sign) and I wanted brunch - so opted for 2 poached eggs on toasted muffin with fresh tomatoes, basil and olive oil and a Cappuccino. The eggs were just right ( runny but not too much) and there were plentiful fresh tomatoes and basil. It arrived quickly and I enjoyed the Cappuccino. It was good value for money.

I have only visited this place for Breakfast, and it was always cooked very well, what ever you ordered, the staff are friendly, and it always seems well visited, the menu is vast, and prices affordable. My favorite down our high street.

Visited for breakfast on busy Saturday morning. Very prompt service and good food. Scramble eggs personally to dry but I am sure they are happy to do it to order. Egg an bacon rolls just yummy.

This cafe was recommended to me when I was talking about another good cafe nearby called Pop Inn. The Shirley Cafe is extremely popular and for good reason. You are not crammed in to spaces where the back of your chair is knocked. The staff are attentive and well presented. Everything is clean and the food is very good. The chefs seem to take pride in their work and actually have created some different dishes along with traditional 'dishes with a twist'. It is now my favourite cafe around so I drive past at least 10 to get to it. Parking is fairly easy too. Visit!

A sure sign of a good cafe is its popularity with local residents and workers and this is definitely the case with the Shirley Cafe. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient, the cafe itself is spotless, the food is excellent and they make great coffee. Definitely worth popping in for a snack or something more substantial.

The staff in here are always welcoming, kind and helpful, eventhough they are always swept of their feet. I come in here regularly and always have fantastic snacks. The price has slightly increased recently but it is still great.

Very clean and tidy, lovely people, quick service and brilliant grub! I've been eating here weekly with one of my sons for a couple of years. The service is always excellent - friendly, speedy and efficient. There is a wide choice of breakfasts, jacket potatoes, salads etc, but I would particularly recommend the shepherd's pie from the hot meal selection. The cafe is bright and clean with many regular customers. If you're looking for a good quality cafe meal, this is the place to go.

Well if your're looking for a greasy spoon you won't here but if your're looking for top quality Cafe/Bistro food at very reasonable price's equal if not better then some Cental London's eateries then you've come to the right place. Great for family with children too The staff are very friendly and they make a lot of effort to provide a great service. The owner and his all female staff are all trained to cook serve. You won't find builders here with soiled clothes using bad language dirtying the comfortable seats. Lovely cafe, full english was great, rather a large plateful but managed it! Another member of my group had sausage, mash and onion gravy which I am told was also very good.

We popped in to have some lunch in between bridal dress appointments. I'm always impressed by the service, cleanliness of the restaurant and menu choices. The food isn't greasy and well presented and lots of it too! Good value for money will be back soon

As I was working this was. I thought it would be good to pop back in to the Shirley Cafe. It was a couple of years ago I added this cafe to Trip Advisor and I am pleased to say they have not let me down. We used to visit this Cafe a lot before they refitted and moved it all around at first it was great new fresh clean and tasty food. But over time the quality of food has dropped when others around are improving.My best advice could only be as you arrive at the cafe keep going on up the road head into West Wickham until you come to Sainsburys right opposite is one of the vest Cafe you will find in the area small and family run by a group of brothers but with a great filling tasty breakfast hard to beat

I leave in Shirley for a while now , and once a week I come here,for breakfast or just a cappuccino. I am a real coffee lover and I must say that there coffee is a good contender to any Italian cafe or big upmarket brands. The girls are very nice, always smiling and giggling. The owner and his wife very kind and welcoming . Nevertheless, I enjoy my eggs Benedict or the lovely Jacket potato with chicken and melted cheese. If I feel really hungry they do an amazing grilled Mediterranean Chicken with home made rice,chips and fresh salad . And to finish it off Jem's famous home made lemon drizzle . The food is lovely and at a reasonable price. They have a 5 star health and safety award on the wall and that tells a lot,place always clean and tidy and always busy . A 5 star and a big thank you for treating me like a friend and always putting a smile on my face .

Read good reviews about Shirley cafe so thought I'd give it a try was pleasantly greeted by the waitress upon walking in . I had the eggs Royale and my associate had the Barcelona eggs ,I have to confess we are not easily pleased but this was one of the best We have tasted , I mean I expect this quality from a high standard restaurant we also had two cappuccinos which again was first class , very clean cafe and staff were on the money . awful food not nice at all, not fresh and the chef dropped bacon on the floor and put it back on the grill and i noticed this, he was thinking i wouldn't have seen this!! DISGUSTING. In the corner of the toilets there was rat droppings, and i was shocked they put rat poison on the floor were customers go in to the toilets. Hazard! I have made a formal complaint to the government about the health and hygiene issue. Awful prices, one person cost 13 pounds.

I'm a bathroom installer and I live and work in the area. This is by far the best breakfast around. All fresh ingredients. All cooked fresh. Not pre cooked and the deep fried like others around. Quality coffee machine too.Maybe about £1.50 more than other cafes around but worth every penny. Friendly helpful staff too.

This is without doubt the best cafe in Shirley. Yes a fry up is greasy, however this place does not display anywhere near as my oil on the plate as other cafes I have visited. Very friendly service too, and clean! Heads and shoulders above Pop Inn Cafe up the road.

Me and my wife came across this on route to our ikea run, I don't normally leave review for cafes but the food was lovely bit the service was amazing, I made a mistake with my order and they sorted it out at no extra cost,The coleslaw was home made not cheap cramp I normally see in fry up CAFES.The ladies behind the counter all had smile on their faces which motivated us to leave this review.PEase keep up the good work and see you next week on our return trip

3 hours travelling Northampton to Shirley and I needed food before full on grumpiness set in. Picked the Shirley Cafe as it was the first place near where we parked the car. Walked in and received a friendly hello and sat and looked at the menu. Standard cafe food but the breakfast looked interesting but it was already 2.50pm so way past that. Chose a burger and chips and the wife had a sandwich. Burger did what I wanted and was tasty enough. The restaurant seemed clean and well looked after. The staff were attentive and seemed to have a happy attitude greeting regulars like friends giving the place a welcoming feel. Does what you want from a cafe +.

Visited this café for the first time last week together with my disabled wife. It was over half full mainly with tradesmen but also others. They made extra space so my wife could access a table. The waitress came and took our order as soon as we indicated we were ready. The coffee was served within 5 mins and the meals followed within 10 mins. Both meals were well presented and tasted great. There was no rush and we could have stayed as long as we wanted.Prices are very reasonable for the area and there was ample food on the plates.All told a great café if you want a good breakfast/lunch or just a snack.

Let's keep places like this open. A large freshly cooked breakfast with toast and tea for five and a half quid. Good table service too. Excellent

Although we live in Shirley and this cafe has been open for some while, my wife & I have just made our first visit to it for lunch. We found it very clean & light, and well set out in that tables & chairs are not too adjacent to each other as they are in some cafes in the area. The food we had was excellant, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Once ordered we didn't have to wait too long either. There seemed to be a steady trickle of diners in & out whilst we were there. We were quite impressed and shall defintely be going back there in due course.

I've been to the Shirley Cafe a couple of times now and for £5.50 for a set breakfast (and there's a good choice) with tea and toast you can't go wrong. The service was spot on, quick and friendly and the cafe itself clean and fresh. The food was tasty and not greasy or covered in fat, varied selection of food and drinks too. I will return and have to say it's probably the best cafe in the neighbourhood.

The Shirley Café is clean, friendly, has helpful staff & the food is good. I'm a vegetarian but I visit with a meat eater & I don't feel left out (as I normally do in a cafe) as they have meat-free options, including a very good breakfast. If you're in the area, pay them a visit.

This cafe certainly sells fresh delicious, English breakfast and all typical cafe food. The food is not cheap freezer food it tastes as if its made from good fresh ingredients and of a good quality. Service is excellent, we didn't have to wait long at all, we were served by friendly staff. My husband said his bacon sandwich was the best he had ever had, he said it was cooked exactly how he likes it and it was not full of fat or greasy like other bacon sarnies he has eaten.Everything was reasonably priced, my children got special attention. Everyone is made to feel welcome as they sample the delights of a brilliant cafe. We will be returning regularly. It is on the A232 Wickham Road, there is free parking on all the side roads around. Couldn't recommended this cafe enough, my family and I eat here at least once every week. The food is of a consistent high quality, and the service is excellent. Fantastic value for money also. The cafe is clean and well kept, and the staff are attentive and friendly. Definitely the best cafe in this area!

Nous nous sommes rendus là-bas pour manger un breakfast traditionnel.Ne vous prenez pas pour un sur-homme (contrairement à nous...), les breakfasts classiques sont bien assez consistants !C'était tout simplement délicieux, et le personnel était très sympathique. En plus, les plats ne sont vraiment pas chers.Seul bémol : ils ne prennent pas la carte bancaire, et le distributeur le plus proche est à presque dix minutes à pied. Il vaut mieux donc prévoir avant.

I have been there several times in last few months. One of my friends took me there for breakfast and have been going there regularly since.Very nice cafe with some great breakfast options and really refreshing freshly grounded coffee.It may not be 'posh' for some people but if quality food and coffee is what matters to you then can't go wrong with this one.

Stumbled across this café a few months ago, and have been back every week since. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, serving you at your table. Excellent food, with generous portions at a great price. They serve typical café food, for example : breakfasts, burgers, jacket potatoes etc. A really good example of a family business.

What can I say the cafe was empty which should have been a warning, the service is slow and the waitress very rude. Its trying to be a posh cafe which is not working. Its a normal greasy spoon cafe.

Lovely, clean, bright cafe. Full English or Mediterranean breakfasts. Always friendly and remember to make my toast just the way I like it ! Good if you just want to pop in for a proper coffee too. My only downer is the tea, a bit on the milky side but otherwise , everything else , flawless.

Just heard about this cafe from some friends so I decided to check it out for lunch one day. It was very welcoming and the girl at the counter smiled at us and invited us to take a seat, she was very friendly. I saw that the breakfast menu was very well priced and surprisingly they were serving a Mediterranean breakfast which was definitely something you don't see in your average cafe. It was just as lovely as It sounded and I was therefore a very satisfied costumer. It is now my local cafe which u visit on a regular basis.

Really glad I decided to stop here during my travels in South London. I'm not from around the Croydon area but was there to meet a client and after reading the positive reviews on here I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about! Needless to say, all the positive reviews on here are true! A true test of a cafe is always their Full English and it was absolutely delicious. Good quality ingredients, cooked perfectly and accompanied by a Cappuccino that put Starbucks and all the other high street chains to shame! The staff were very friendly and made me feel like a regular although it was my first time there. Such a shame I live miles away as this would definitely be my regular breakfast and lunch stop. Highly recommended.

Popped in here for a quick business meeting, as our usual meeting place was not open (Christmas break).Although we only had a drink of tea and coffee, the staff were very friendly, the service prompt and most important the premises were bright and clean. It was surprisingly busy mid-morning, the day after boxing day with both families and "workers", so the owners must be doing something right and judging by previous reviews they are! Congratulations.

We just wanted some lunch and this was the first cafe we came across. This is nicely decorated, feeling bright and airy. It is also very clean and tidy. The usual dishes were available but the Dallas burger was very well cooked with fresh salad. Service was quick and friendly. We shall be coming back here again.

Popped in for breakfast on a Friday morning looking for a great traditional breakfast that wax reasonably priced and local.We found it! Good service, mixture of clients, great food with a Mediterranean twist available if you want it (highly recommend the grilled halloumi with your breakfast). Will be going back for sure.

Haven't been back to this part of shirley in a few years, but needed to get a couple of new tyres whilst visiting my parents. Thought I would get a coffee, and popped across to the cafe. Place was really busy - a good sign. Staff were very friendly, coffee is excellent and price was good too. Shame I couldn't stay for a bacon buttie. It's great to see that this part of my old stomping ground is thriving.

The Shirley Life Team decided to have the last meeting of the year at the Shirley Cafe. We met for breakfast.I will start by saying that I always choose this cafe when I meet friends because they serve the best espresso in our area. By the way, it is in Shirley, Croydon. Buses 194. 198 and 119 stop opposite the cafe.The Cafe offers contemporary surroundings and is spotless. There is a little problem with the single tables that need to be anchored to the floor because they can tilt if one puts pressure to ease oneself up. I often joke about it because I have seen many a cup or glass flying around.The staff is pleasant and keen to please.You can have lunch too and there are vegetarian dishes available.

Firstly whilst this cafe is in the Croydon postcode area, it is smack in the middle of the shops at Shirley. Having seen decent reviews, it was an obvious choice for us when we traveled from Croydon to Bromley. The first thing that strikes you is that there is an enormous mix of patrons - from the local hospital workers to well-dressed office workers (this is not the normal mix for a cafe). We were served quickly and my especial request was not a problem for the cafe. I opted for a full breakfast for under six pounds and this included a coffee and two rounds of toast (you cannot get better value than that). When it arrived it filled a large plate and the ingredients were all of a decent quality. My partners choice of lamb chops was equally good and there were no complaints at all from her. It is a cafe and not a restaurant, but great food and unbelievable value put many a restaurant to shame. Highly recommended and a true hidden gem on the outskirts of Croydon.

My family and my self have been going to the Shirley cafe for over 3 years now. The welcome is always friendly,they have a great menu and the food has always been fantastic ( the full English is my favourite).The Shirley Cafe is defiantly not one to be missed.

I was really suprised not to find that no one had put this place on Tripadvisor. So I wasted no time and got it added.First things first,its location is a bit misleading its actual address is West Wickham,Bromley but its postcode means its in Croydon. However it is in Shirley !!!.That out the way, I come accross this place while working in the area. What a find this is easily the best cafe I have ever been too. The food is fantastic. All of your original breakfasts and also cooked roast dinners and as the owners come from my favourite holiday destination they have put a hint of Cyprus on some of the dishes. Which brings us to the Staff. I am allways greeted with the warmest of hello's and allways time for a chat, then so are all their customers which range from Mums, Couples ,Workers ,Pensioners and even the local Street Wardens.If you are in the area please give this place a try they are open 7 days a week but be prepaired to return again and again.
