My wife and I went to a kiosk to get a burger and chips. The neighbouring business offered local produce but were closed so we went to the Ships Galley. I asked the staff where the beef was from for the burgers (which I don’t think is unreasonable) and was told ‘From a cow’. After that I had fish and chips which was good apart from saying they charge for napkins. Unfortunately the person behind the counter was a tennager with attitude who proceeded to tell the other person the amusing come back comment. I won’t be using the Ships Galley again.

We normally have fish and chips here when we are in the area but never again. The chips were fine but the fish was so thin. I don't think it was cod or haddock but something much cheaper. We have been ill ever since. We paid £17.60 for fish and chips but will be taking our business elsewhere in future.

Decided to go to West Bay for some fish n chips. Beer battered Cod at £8.80. Frozen chips and the thinnest bit of fish (no way was it cod). It was the thickness of a 'flake' of normal bit of real cod. And so greasy. It went in the bin. Shocking they call it fish n chips. I'm local. But never will I go back or recommend to anyone.

I would have liked the chips cooked a little more but that is my only criticism. It is mostly take-away but you can sit down at one of the 3 or 4 outside tables if free (they often aren't). The men inside work very hard and are friendly. I thanked them, which I don't often do! £32 including drinks for all; 2 of the fish were large portions.

Loved our meal here. Our kids are Gluten and Diary intolerant and we immediately saw the Gluten Free sign at Ships Galley. They prepared our chips gluten free (no promises on cross contamination for chips as they do also fry the gluten battered fish in the oil), but they did have gluten free vinegar. The fish was poached, so not quite in the same league as vendors who use gluten free batter (my favorite being Hooked Fish n Chips in Glasgow).

Brought food for a family of 4. The food itself was good, the free sauce tasted a bit watered down and the spray bottle vinegar was .... erm .... strange. To be fair this could perhaps have been the best place open at the time (why are so many places closed on an April bank holiday weekend?!), but while the fish was reasonable, the batter was poor quality and the portion of chips incredibly meagre...I'd definitely recommend trying elsewhere first! Lucky for us she did and we also ordered two pots of curry sauce. Two wasn't need as you get a large polystyrene cup which would of served four. The fish was beautifully battered and the chips were fresh and tasty - We all said they were THE BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD BY THE SEA! The fish & chips also came with a tartar sauce sachet as well. The food started well until I picked up my pot of tartare sauce which had two dead flies stuck to the side of it. We then started to eat our chips and found at least 4 more flies between us in our chips. Partner ate his small fish first which was nice, I had cod bites which were also from a frozen packet, not small battered pieces of cod like I'd expected but threw the chips away when we discovered the flies. We had walked down the beach(with the food covered) to eat them so didn't bother walking all the bay back to the hut. Service was good and friendly but quality was terrible overall.

Living near to West bay I do visit this lovely place alot and always wished I could enjoy some chips by the harbour, but being a coeliac it is very difficult and worrying to attempt to eat from a kiosk as they are very limied to space and cross contamination can be an issue and also they mostly use the same oil to cook breaded items. How lucky was I to discover that the Ships galley has a seperate fryer just for chips and they kindly steamed me a piece of fish to go with them. The ketchup, mayo and vinigar is also gluten free . So any coeliac who fancys the usual fish\chip meal at the seaside, then pop along to the green kiosk. Enjoy. And thank you to the helpful couple that advised me what I was safe to order. They also do jacket potato for anyone who cant have chips.

Over the years, my wife and I have tried all the food kiosks at West Bay, but our most recent visit was undoubtedly the most pleasurable. Ships Galley's décor was fresh and inviting, with clear menu boards and reasonable prices. The staff were polite and friendly and the kiosk possessed a level 5 food hygiene rating (the highest). Cooked to order, the beer battered fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, not dripping in oil as we have experienced locally. The chips were similarly well-cooked and again not oily. We were each offered a slice of lemon and a sachet of tartare sauce free of charge, which demonstrates the high standard of the establishment. My wife and I visit West Bay about once a month and we will be making a bee-line for this kiosk next time. Highly recommended!

after a wind blown swim in the sea we decided we wanted some comforting food and hot drinks - initially sat right on the front of the patio and the lady in charge was there in a mo with menus and a brush to wipe sand off the table top - we decided it was still to windy there, so moved back against cafe wall. Orders quickly taken - food wasn't fast, but my golly when it came it was fresh and delicious - from bacon sandwiches to american pancakes and bacon - all piping hot and full of flavour.

We were camping just down the road this past weekend and decided to have a browse - I'm glad we did as there was much more to this farm shop than I was expecting. Lots of different produce and gifts type things all quite nicely set out. Some things were sensibly priced considering you do expect to pay a slight premium at a farm shop (postcards 50p, fresh scones £1, clotted cream £1.99), but some of the prices were a little shocking - there were loaves of fresh bread at £4.50 and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price of ice cream being served at the side of the car park! Overall a worthwhile trip - the scones were delicious, good selection of ciders and got some lovely warm slipper socks. I'd recommend popping in if you're passing (the views are fantastic too) just don't expect any bargains.
