Just have had the best Sunday roast we have had for a very long time. Food really tasty, good portion sizes & piping hot. All Staff really pleasant and a clean establishment.

Love the food here. Great value for money, some of the best fries I‘ve ever had.

Excellent meal and experience at The Ship and Bell. Staying at the Premier Inn and decided to pop in for some food. First impression, lovely decor and atmosphere. Greeted quickly and our waitress was excellent throughout. Difficult to choose from the menu as so many things sounded good. My mum and I chose a selection of the light bites, which were all delicious! So yummy! Particular favourites were the pork belly bites, dirty fries and meatballs. My husband had the salt beef ciabatta with loaded fries and thoroughly enjoyed his meal too. Also a bonus they serve Fullers London Pride. Service was excellent. Food arrived quickly and was hot. Important when you have an active, tired toddler with you! Everywhere looked clean and a nice clean toilet! We will return when next in the area and recommend anyone to give them a try!

Popped in for food, so much on the menu I liked. I had chicken burger and chips it was massive, well worth the price my partner had steak, after 2 mouthfuls said "we must come here again" the food was really good. Lovely pub too very clean staff were friendly.

I had just taken my Mums car off of her after Months of Family persuasion! I was coming out of Horndean Tow Bars & I noticed all the scaffolding but a sign saying "Open as usual so I pulled in. Builders & Waste all over the place so I didn't notice Parking signs! I went in for a soft drink, sat down & Chilled When I got a £100 penalty notice my Blood Pressure went through the Roof!

Great local pub. Pool table. Dart board. Great roast dinner.

I really love the food at the Ship and Bell. Small menu done really well. There is something tasty for everyone and very good value. I’ve never had a bad meal there. The home made tagliatelle with mushrooms is so good. The service is perfect. The people are lovely, friendly and welcoming. Go for a meal there, you will be very happy.

I've had my 30th birthday party and my dad's 60th birthday party here, and both occasions were great. The staff are friendly, helpful and great with communication. The buffet food was also lovely on both occasions! I would definitely recommend to have an event here. I come here for some lunches and occasional evening meals, the food is lovely and the staff are a great team! Fletcher is one of the great team members 🙂

Me and my wife had a really bad meal here. The staff agreed but did not take anything off the bill. We won’t be recommending and returning.

When every mouthful is as good as the first.... Popped in for Sunday roast with the family today. I'm glad we booked as tables quickly filled up. The food was delicious and the staff excellent, genuinely a delightful visit. All meals were a good generous portion, and the dog enjoyed a couple of complementary biscuits. Thumbs up for the beer too, "The Pride" was spot on, so I had to have two! We walked there, so no comment on parking. Thanks Ship & Bell, see you again soon.

We had such a great time at the Ship &Bell for my wife's 80th birthday, we couldn't ask for a better venue, the staff were fantastic, the food was fabulous, all our guests were full of compliments, we will certainly be coming back for our future celebrations. Last week 19 of us went to dine at the Ship & Bell in the evening. From the time of booking with Lauren, to arriving at the pub, I had first class communication ref our booking and expectations. On arrival we were welcomed with happy cheerful staff. Lauren said that starters would be served at 19:10 which was very punctual. The food was excellent and very good size portions. We were not rushed between courses either. The staff certainly delivered above and beyond. All of my party have asked me if we can return in the New Year. We will be back. Thank you Lauren and all the Staff.

17 of us went to the Ship and Bell Horndean for an evening meal. I can honestly say the staff are lovely and nothing is too much for them. The food all arrived at the same time which is no mean feat for so many people and was delicious. A super meal at a reasonable price and it's dog friendly. We will certainly be returning. Just remember to sign in your car reg number at the bar so as you don't get a ticket!

Just a regular workday, not the weekend. At the pub, a pint of Guinness costs £6. Is that the going rate in 2024? I thought I was enjoying happy hour in London! Also, visitors should be especially mindful of the parking instruction terms! After reviewing feedback from the past six months, it seems the parking penalty system is still in full effect. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice this before I come. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this pub. So disappointing.

Last time we ate in here, it was very good. So we came back, this time it wasn't so good, fish and chips were over cooked and greasy, it was a very dissapointing meal.

Very kind and helpfull, staff. Very understanding. Its set in the beautiful, little, old-world, Village of Horndean. Pool, darts and multi-screen Sky Sports are available, too. Nice rear beer garden, as well. Their Menu is diverse, good quality and caters for Veg heads and Vegans, alike. Great for all ages. An all-round, genuine, Inn. 👏

One of the nicest pubs we’ve ever been too! The food is simply divine!! The service was also amazing, Faith and Jack went above and beyond and we are so happy we found this little gem, can’t wait to come back!! Would really recommend food lovers check this place out, the pork belly bites are to die for!

A pub that is average that you end up paying for horrendously by mean of fines for parking in there car park, having asked at the bar if we need to pay for parking we were not given any information other than “no you can park in our car park” now myself and friends whom had visited have now have to pay multiple fines - in summery would rather have visited a better pub any twice the price for a drink which would still have been cheaper …

Good food, friendly service, parking on site, clean and freshly decorated. Remember to put your car reg into the screen located at the bar to stop any parking fines!!

Been here twice for a roast on Sundays. The food is delicious, service is great. Will def be our regular for a Sunday lunch.

Lovely little pub, dogs welcome, fairly priced nice food. Fenced garden, pool table, outdoor TV.

Had a lovely meal with friends on Friday. I would recommend and go again. Great service too. Update We've just received a £60 fine for my husband parking in the car park when he came to pick us up. We didn't know about the parking ,no one at the bar told us and being night in a dark carpark we didn't see any notices. We've not bothered to complain as we've been in a similar situation and it's almost impossible to appeal. So we won't get going back.

Best steak pie fresh veg and creamy mash I've had in a long time eating out. The meat was tender and full of flavour the service was excellent..highly recommended visit to The Ship And Bell Horndean.

Went for meal so can’t judge rooms. However meal was great. Pan fried mushrooms was the best I’ve tasted for years. Young lady who served us was brilliant. Will be back

Sunday Roast… Wow what a meal, service was also fantastic and very friendly, pub was a little chilly but that aside the visit was 1st class will definitely be back for more!

Pretty decent came up in with my dad otherday, however I am only giving 4/5 stars because I deeply baffled and confused as to why it’s called the Ship and bell when there is no ships in sight & the harbour and the docks is at least 8-9 miles away, there is no ships round there, you got to go to old Portsmouth and Portsea for all that.

An iconic pub related to the now gone Gales Brewery in Horndean. The range of ales, lagers and spirits is good and the pub food is excellent. The landlord and staff are friendly and warming, making a visit a long lasting loving experience for us gastronomic disciples. There are also quiz nights and social events throughout the year.

Good portions of food, and a little cheaper than surrounding pubs. The home made chips are fantastic. I highly recommend the fish & chips offer on Fridays.

Stopped here for lunch when visiting my parents and had buffalo wings and ribs. Wings were super tasty, however the blue cheese sauce was a bit thin and wouldn't coat the buffalo wings when dipping. A minor quibble but would still deffo recommend! The ribs were plentiful and had a great taste, could have been a little bit more moist to be perfect! Side of fries I received with them were gorgeous though! Our server was very friendly and kind.

Really good value food. Particularly if you get from the lunch menu that has a lot of variety and great portion size. A lot of the seating area is very private too. A few seating is raised so if you have a wheelchair may struggle struggle access some seats. Staff very bubbly and friendly

Vicki is an inspiration, especially being the new manager. Much needed. The two chiefs can certainly cook. We went 30-07-23 Sunday roast and desert was absolutely amazing.

Went to the ship and bell for food this evening, wasn't expecting much but the food was OK nice and hot , service a bit slow, Limited menu but was reasonable for the price , could do with a few more choices but good enough , what made it for us was the lovely bar staff , Tilly went above and beyond exceptionally good service and the added bonus was the clientel has changed and it was nice to have a drink in a nice peaceful environment

Myself and Jim have taken over the pub from May the 4th and welcome everyone with open arms and we look forward to being part of the horndean community. As the owners of the nearby Farmer Inn as well we understand the importance of quality food made from scratch, excellent service and a wide variety or beers and ales, with of course the flagship HSB always on tap.

Very dissapointing, having booked for lunch on Saturday ( booked only 2 days before!) we arrived to find the kitchen closed. Not a lot of use when we'd driven a fair way with friends for a family meal. The pub was closing the next week but we were assured over the rhe phone that the kitchen would be working with some menu choices not available. Ha, Not even a chef was available. We hope the new owners do better..... We won't be going there again!

Chef a little disappointed that 3 of our group were only having a drink the other 7 were eating and meat was very poor quality beef and lamb unable to eat as so tough. Don't think we'll return.

We have visited this pub previously for lunch and were quite impressed but things this time were far from good. We were booked to eat in the restaurant area but were advised to eat in the bar as there was a noisy function upstairs. The bar was equally noisy with blaring music but this was turned off when we complained but then another member of staff came and turned it back on again. The sandwich bread was still hard and half frozen despite a long wait, no fish option was available including fish fingers on the advertised children's menu. The children's menu included pudding but the only item available was a cola ice lolly. The waitress was very pleasant but hardly made up for the otherwise poor service.
