Liphook Fish and Chips in East Hampshire

Not sure what month these nuggets were first cooked but it wasn't THIS one! How they can put this food out when they prices are high I don't know!

We had the most disgusting fish and chips we've ever had at this chippy. First of all it was cash only.😡 The fish was dry as a bone ( overcooked ) and expensive, the chips were very dry too. Fish was taken out of the freezer, battered and then fried 🤢🤮. We don't recommend this business to anyone, it's utterly disgusting!

Had my first seniors fish and chips meal. I have always struggled to eat all of a standard fish and chips so this was more to my size. Quality good for both the fish and chips. Friendly courteous face behind counter which is always pleasant. Well done everyone 👏.

Chips cold and stuck together as one lump, scampi overcooked very dark brown not much to make them black. Gone downhill recently not a returning customer that's for sure

The chips I had from here were the worst I have ever had, they looked and tasted like they had been reheated from the night before. The staff were very pleasant. They also only take cash....

The most awful chips I have ever seen. Thrown out to the birds as they were disgusting. Must have been reheated several times. Even the birds haven't touched them 😡 Shame I can't post the photo I took

Best cod and chips in my opinion for miles around

I rarely write reviews but this was by far the worst fish & chips I’ve ever had so warrants a review. We ordered at 5pm, I can only think we were given chips left over from lunch time as they were cold and stale. The fish was over cooked and dry and the curry sauce was like water with lumps at the bottom. I have had food from here before (maybe 12 months ago) and it was great so clearly this place has gone downhill fast! I would not return based on this.

Positives: They were open and had stock of both fish and chips. Fancied a portion of fish and chips tonight so dispatched hubby to Liphook (where in the past we’ve had a pretty good take away) Fish and Chip shop. So, it was convenient that a large portion of fish had already been cooked and available and ordered alongside a large portion of chips. Unfortunately, the young lady serving on the counter either didn’t hear, or ignored, the request not to add salt and vinegar to the meal. It arrived home covered in both. Then the taste test. Chewy dark batter (possibly needs to change the oil) and a fairly flat and slim piece of cod - blink and you’d think you just had the batter and no fish. Chips were chunky, but soft. At £12 for the meal it wasn’t good value. It’s a shame really as I don’t think we’ll be returning here very soon.

3rd time trying this takeaway, again not good, chips were cold, sure they were left from lunchtime. Asked for two fishcakes, was told they only had one, didn t offer to cook another one. This was about 5.30. won t be using again.

Not great. Chips were overcooked, dry and cold. Fish was ok. Overpriced for what it was! I went to get out cash across the road (as they only accept cash!). When I got back in less then 2 mins, the package was ready for me, so didn't see what they had put in there. But should have realised that the package didn't feel nice and hot like it should.. but wasn't thinking! Won't be going back.

This was my second visit in the hope the first was just a bad day , unfortunately not ! Previously I had ordered fish and chips for myself this time (because of the previous awful experience) I was very wary so I decided on pie and chips the others in my party had a sausage and chip and the other fish and chips . Huge disappointment yet again . Neither of us finished our food the chips were the worst I have ever tasted . I am convinced they were re cooked from earlier . Thank goodness I opted for a pie as it is brought in and just heated up , can’t do much wrong there . I shall never cross the shop’ s threshold again

Ordered 2 large fish and chips ,it was totally disgusting and Disappointing as I was really looking forward to it. Fish was soggy butter not crispy soggy,chips again soggy Moore like mush potatoes then a nice crispy chip Waste of money,never again !!!

Cod, pie, kids burger ect was nice and hot when I got food home but chips were Luke warm bordering cold, not great unfortunately

A welcome stop on a cold and rainy day. It's the Xmas holidays so fish choices limited but my small cod and standard chips were hot and tasty. I left Liphook in 1970 so a 52 year gap in visits?

Don't have what's on the menu at lunchtime. Don't accept cards. Sent us over the road to withdraw cash, then closed the kitchen while we were gone. Should expand their offering to include clowning accessories.

If these are large chips I’d hate to see the small ones!! Very disappointing. Poor value for £5.80!!! Won’t be returning.

I was under the impression that this chippy wasn't very good but the cod and chips I had were brilliant. Not greasy, the food was piping hot and I didn't have to wait long. I will definitely be using this place again.

Fantastic food, staff are awesome and friendly, varied menu, open 7 days a week, good selection of childrens meals and they have a senior citizens cod and chips, the fish is hand cut by Dan and a generous size, the chips are made on site too, the best burgers around, people come from miles around to try the burgers, they offer curry sauce, mushy peas, gravy a selection of pickles and sauces and a large selection of ice cold drinks, it has had a 5 star rating from the health department for over 15 years and it is now considered in the gold elite, for the best fish and chips around visit liphook fish and chip shop on headley road liphook 👍😄

Expensive and not very good food, the chicken burger was a soggy coated chicken breast and chips were really dark in colour and a bit mehh... Onion rings looked like they were bought from Sainsbury's round the corner and chucked in the fryer. Portions were small compared to the price. Definitely need to buy a card machine. Wouldn't recommend.

Now visited a couple of times and the food has been excellent, very hot and good value for money. Would recommend

To say poor would be a understatement went in at 5pm and the fish tasted like it was left over after from lunch time not the standard you expect from a small local company.

What can I say. Fish was okay, probably the worst chips I have ever had. Really need to take card payments. Sorry won’t be coming back for sometime, will give it another try one day.

Absolute rubbish spot the chip about 8 spot the bits most of the bag and the service was terrible the whole lot went in the bin.

We were staying at friends a couple of doors away from this establishment and Friday night was fish & chip night. The chips were cold, very pale, barely passing as chip shape and crusty. Awful! The fish was much better hence the 2 stars. I clearly didn’t visit the shop so cannot pass on opinion on the service but as the only chippy in the village I would have expected their food to be of a much higher standard. The rating they have on TA seems to reflect their apparent lack of interest in providing great food to their clientele.

Hit and miss. The woman who works in the eve is a very moody Margaret...god forbid you ask for curry sauce kind of Margaret the guys who serve are lovely tho.

fish was fine but chicken was over cooked

Just brought large chips, the guy said have to wait for fresh ones which is fine but then promptly produced my bag of wrapped chips. Got home to discover they had given me the old brown chips which should of been thrown out. Cheers, nice one.

We had fish chips from here. Fish was great. Chips was really Greasy Could not finish them. Or my family could not.

Best chip shop in quite a wide area. Chips are crisp and meat is cooked great. Kids love their fish cakes. Friendly staff. I have been here lots over the years and the quality has been consistently high. Well worth a visit. Only downside is cash only. Go into the coop opposite for non charging cash point inside.

Always lovely chips and perfectly cooked pie. Open at more convenient hours than most chippy's locally too. Only takes cash though, but easily remedied by popping over the road to the Co-Op if you forget!

Rung up for a quote at lunchtime yesterday. 2 sausages battered 1 saveloy And 1 portion large of chips Quoted £10 we left it that is extortion This shop does not deserve to survive what is worse we are senior citizens and thought we would have a treat heaven help us if we had asked for fish and chips.

Took my nan to this fish and chips as we were in the area. Very nice chips and chicken burger and savaloy and my nan had chips and fish cake. All very yummy. Good prices and fast service .

Unequivocally the best fish and chips in the area, and great service as well. Locals know this already so why am I bothering with this review? Friday evenings are of course a busy time. What do you expect? The negative reviews are puzzling - what reasonable person would turn up just before closing and expect their pick of whatever - clearly the friers are off?

Friday evening...waited about 15 minutes to be served...have had worse experiences.Yes, the chips were good.Unfortunately, despite paying a high-ish price for a large cod, it was mainly batter with a thin piece of cod inside.This was a 'tail end' piece of cod, and not worth the price charged.Had I been able to, I would have taken the fish back and asked for a refund.How do these fish and chip shops get away with serving fried cod of such poor quality.I understand that the prime cod, that is thick, and consists of great white flakes, goes to top restaurants. But I am fed up with being conned into buying wafer-thin tail-end of cod in batter. I'm paying for a decent piece of cod...not a piece of batter!

Ordered a large chips, fish cake and a sausage and it took them 25 minutes to sort. We were second to order in a queue of 6 and people who came after got their larger orders before we did. They did not apologise for the wait and the entire shop was full of smoke and steam. When we did eventually get our order our large portion of chips was barely enough for one person. Will not be coming again. Not impressed.

We always drive here from Bordon to get fish and chips as they are really good. Never had a bad meal from here so will set head back

I decided to get some fish and chips on my way home from work last Sunday. Most of the chip shops near to where I live are closed on Sunday but I remembered that this one was open until 9pm. I got there at 8:45pm - the chap behind the counter was serving another customer. He saw me walk in but kept his back to me for a good three to four minutes before turning and stating that 'we only have sausages, pies and chips left. I asked about fish and he said that 'I only get paid until 9pm so we turn the fires off at 8:30pm so they have time to cool down before lockup' This I think is very poor service - it is a FISH and chip shop who says it it open to customers until 9pm - why not amend the closing time to 8:30pm ? In the end I decided that patronising a local business was not worth the hassle and went to the supermarket instead.

Best fish and chips in the village. Bit disappointing when you go in just before closing as they won't cook anything else, understandable though. Staff always pleasant food always tasty!

Wanted salt and vinegar, which the server forgot to put on, then acted annoyed that yes we wanted her to add this and rewrap, although it turns out no amount of seasoning could save the meal, Worst fish and chips I have ever eaten. Stodgy wet fish and hard half cooked yet somehow burnt tasting chips. My partner had a pie which filling was so viscous and congealed it wobbled like jelly after breaking open the soggy crust... we tried to feed it to the dog and even she wouldn't eat it.

I have bought fish and chips here every week at lunchtime for several years. Service is quick and quality excellent. Not too much batter! Highly recommended.

Freshly cooked fish but batter was very thin. Ordered Medium Cod but looked more like small. Chips looked and tasted undercooked. Won't use again.
