Hordean Fish and Chips in East Hampshire

Sausage in batter was nice, but the chips weren't good. They were quite dark and some were a bit hard. Won't go there again, back to Banks for me.

I dropped into this chippy to quickly get some chips for my parents - to do ham, egg and chips at home. They served the chips suspiciously quickly. When I got them home, they were awful. Reheated, dried out, horrible taste. If they think so little of their customers that they're serving up yesterday's food reheated, as these obviously were, well, frankly, they can stuff it. Will never buy from there again.

Had fish and chips from here tonight. Portion size okay, but batter far too thick. Would have had bad indigestion if eaten it. Please make a lighter batter. It looked nice and crispy but wasn’t cooked through anywhere near enough.

Too many occasions they are blatantly serving reheated chips which are dry and just not good so be careful of when you visit…. which is a shame because when they do it properly it’s a decent fish and chip shop.

First time visiting Horndean fish and chips and would definitely recommend. Food was great and good value for money. Friendly staff.

Horndean fish and chips delivered 43 meals of pie and chips and a vegetarian option, for an event for us. All meals were excellent and received many compliments. They were delivered at the requested time, piping hot, and the service was polite and courteous. This is the second time they have provided a large quantity of meals and they can’t be faulted. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. . Thank you

Large cod was nice and batter dry(how I like it) large chips were nice but small portion, scampi was very nice , curry sauce on point.

We have been using this takeaway for about 4 years but the last year or so has been very hit and miss. Really disappointed with the 2 cod and chips we had this evening. Batter was so stodgy we couldn't eat it, not crispy at all. Took a long time to be delivered and was not hot when it arrived. Chips were not good either. Actually going to try somewhere else next time. Such a shame.

Chips not so bad but the way he treats and speaks to to his staff are totally unacceptable.

The most surprising thing about the reviews is that nobody has mentioned the curry sauce! By far the best curry sauce I've ever had from a chip shop. Good chips, beautiful batter on the pea fritter and jumbo sausage. Standard chips are a very decent portion.

Good local fish and chip shop. Portions are very big so go small if you don't eat too much. OAP option is perfect.

Sorry, but was so disappointed! The food I paid for tonight was definitely not worth the money. Takeaway at 5.45 pm should taste freshly cooked but we had to throw chips away as were dry, hard & tasted like they had been heated up from lunchtime. Same for battered sausage. Thank goodness the burger was edible. Definitely won't be back!

Fish supper for four, freshly cooked and plenty of it, chips where perfect as was the whole meal, not a morsel left, see you next week.

Chips were gorgeous and the fish was delicious and the food was all hot and freshly cooked I would recommend this take away to anyone and it is open till 9 every night except Sunday when its closed

The wife placed an order at 5:30. Was told it would be 30min delivery. 1hr later called up to find out where the order was and was told it was out and would be right with us. At 7pm called again and was told it was ready to go out. My wife was upset at this point but waited a bit to decide what to do, she called up and said she refused to pay full price for an order that was almost 2 hours late. The manager screamed at her down the phone and said to cancel the order rather than reduce the money. We refused to pay full price. He cancelled the order. I went down after work to give the guy a bit of my mind about how he should talk to my wife. He soon backed down, saying he was nice to her, and it's not his fault. it's the drivers fault it takes 2 hours. I told him he should tell people that the delivery will be 2 hours, and he says he has no control over the orders. 2 hours later, the wife is angry. I am angry, and the kids are hungry. It's not a nice place. It would have been all avoided if this place and any respect for their customers. Please see the attached voice recording between him and my wife. It shows you how nasty the manager is.

Ordered take away delivery, cod and chips, haddock and chips and sausage chips and mushy peas, arrived super quick, warm and tasted amazing. Would recommended

No English people so not gonna get the best fish and chips as it's an acquired taste 😋 that's taken me many years to develop 19 of which was served abroad but I always looked forward to returning to Blighty to hav fish 🐟 and chips 🍟.

My wife and I were walking by Horndean Fish and Chips and decided we would try them for lunch. I have to say it was probably the best fish and chips I have had. Definitely 5 stars. Would highly recommend. Plus they take telephone orders and also deliver.

Absolutely disgusting, The haddock was ridiculously small.for the amount of £7.10!!!! Chips are soggy and we're £3!!!! Won't be coming bk ever and I would recommend going elsewhere, Tha ks for a awful dinner which is in the bin!!!

Just had a delivery and the quality of the fish was appauling. It was all batter and no fish. Rang to complain and offered free one next time! Not much use now. Would not recommend again. Also, having left a message on their FB, they did not reply. How rude!

Forgot to put in sausages and when I returned after noticing they fumbled about and magically pulled 2 sausages from the bag (which were in fact next to him waiting for me to return) making me out to be mad so that he doesn't have to make up a brand new order!! Never again thank you

Great fish and chip shop. Maybe a bit more pricey than some other chippy's but honestly, the small amount extra is definitely worth it. All food is cooked really well and very tasty, with a great selection on their menu. We've tried quite a few different foods on the menu and they are all really nice. Delivery is also great as it's alway much quicker than they estimate and the food is still really hot. Definitely recommend!

Awful - DO NOT ORDER OR WASTE YOUR MONEY! Below is my review as to why : Food: Chips were absolutely awful, cold, greasy and just tasted terrible. Regular COD also just as bad the batter was extremely greasy and chewy (like it has been sitting under a heater for a couple of days). Curry sauce had a foil taste, nothing like a curry sauce it was like gravy with brown sauce. Saveloy was absolutely lovely no complaints there. Delivery: Took over 47 minutes to be delivered food arrived cold and horrible. Waste of money and time, kids still hungry as the food was terrible. Please do not waste your hard earnt money here, this definitely has not won any awards. Other chip shops are so much better and way above the bar of this place. Newest reviews appear to be staged by friends and family as I cannot believe I am the only one to recieve bad food. I paid cash, if I paid card I would be getting a refund, absolutely dissapointed.

One of the best fish and chip shops I've been to. Huge portions of really lovely food. Really worth visiting. The menu had some interesting items panko coated prawns and squid rings....really got to try them next time! There is a small car park alongside the shop as you can see in my photos....but if it is full, there is plentiful street parking in the area.

Went for the first time last night, they had just opened, and when I got home I had been reheated old chips that were disgusting. Never going again.

They have lovely fish and chips, I always have cod and their cod is really good, sometimes I have been to other fish and chip shops and have bought cod and I have not been given cod. In my opinion it is very good value for money.

Divine fish that just melted in my mouth. Crispy batter cooked in fresh oil, perfectly cooked double fried chips with the acidity of a sprinkle of quality vinegar and creamy mushy peas with a fine tub of tartar sauce. This is my 'go-to' fish & chippy when I'm in the area!

Fantastic tasting fish and chips without being greasy, batter very crispy, always tidy and clean when I have visited. Staff very friendly and welcoming, can't fault it apart from the very limited parking available for customers but overall 10/10

22/07/19 evening. Tried for the first time since it opened and very disappointed. Fish OK but slightly tainted batter. Dried and wrinkled chips and awful, nothing could salvage them into tasting nice. Such a shame for a newcomer to the village.

Freshly cooked fish tasted great and not greasy, chips weren't greasy but a bit bland if slightly crisper they would have been perfect, but friendly staff and premises looked clean , downside is park as area in front is very limited.
