Shi Xuan Gourmet House in Ipswich

My usual Chinese was closed so this was highly recommended on a couple of local pages. I was not disappointed. I got what I get from my local and the prawn toast was thick and dee-lish only 2 but where bigger. The ribs where soft and tender. I got two chicken satay skewers extra. They DID NOT disappoint they are This but this is a Chinese and where good. I get Singapore noodles and this was flavoursome and not to spicy and packed with meat. I loved the crispy shredded beef Kung po chicken And the special fried rice was great. Just so tasty. This is a really good Chinese. I spent 40 sovs fed 2 of us have enough to feed me and me mum today

decent Chinese but went to just order and stopped was £45 for hardly any food have gotten very expensive from nowhere not worth it

I have just had the worst crispy shredded chilli beef!! Was just sugar and crispy thin bites. Hardly any beef just very crispy batter. Too tough to break and chew. Will never order this again. I Ordered the fillet fish with ginger and spring onions. Fish was nice a generous amount of pieces but too many sliced onions not spring onions. Not again!

Been using this Chinese for years, foods always nice, yet the prices have increased twice this year, £5 each time, and now been told they charge delivery on all orders, yet they forgot to mention this when ordering! Won't be using again

I have to say, the food was very good. I ordered direct, and they delivered and brought a card machine. The food is a million times better any other Chinese..including the Friend restaurant. I first tried this takeaway some years ago, but never went back until last night.. its improved. I have also tried all the chingford takeaways..and the Gourmet house is better. I had Sweet and Sour Pork, Chicken Chowmein and egg fried rice.. enough for two meals. And right on my doorstep. Do NOT use food apps to order though

Lovely food - has been my go to Chinese locally. However they got a 1 star hygiene rating in Jan 2024. I can’t eat here again until the year improve food handling and cleanliness, and receive a much higher hygiene rating. Hoping they read this and improve standards to bring back more business for themselves.

Sadly this is our last order. The price has gone up £6 in a week. £3 of it is a new delivery charge which hasn’t reduced the delivery time! We’ve ordered from Gourmet House nearly every week for four years but we would prefer to pay more elsewhere than pay this extra cost. Goodbye GH and thanks for the memories!

Used to be great. New management now and all fallen apart. Food is still great but complete unknown how long it will take and twice been canceled after waiting over an hour! No longer our regular Chinese

1.5 hrs to deliver on a Saturday evening, after saying it would take 30 mins. This is not the first time, we won’t be ordering again!

Positive: have ordered from here over the past 12 months and it's been great. Always arrives hot. Negatives: tonight was surprisingly disappointing. Salt and pepper tofu- no salt, no pepper. Tasteless. Both noodle dishes - again, tasteless. Appeared to have no flavouring on it at all. Peking duck - pancakes, cucumber and spring onions were fresh, duck was cremated Prawn toast- good. Curry sauce - couldn't tell you as it wasn't delivered. I'm sure it I had that, the tasteless noodles and tofu would haven been fine. Just really disappointed. It's taken us 6 years to find a good Chinese, not sure we would bother again. We ordered through deliveroo, tried to call the restaurant but line was busy. Food tonight deserved 1 star

Recently changed my Chinese takeaway shop to Gourmet house and I have really been enjoying the food! I travel for 20 minutes to just get to this shop. They give big portions and the food is always hot which is always a bonus. The only thing that puts me off is the fact that they cut the chicken in the most funkiest shape, sometimes my chicken balls will be looking like a whole chicken breast and when you bite into a white piece of unseasoned chicken, it’s kind of offputting. Nevertheless I will still travel 40mins to and from this shop, maybe without the chicken balls though😂 My favourite dish is a beef in black bean sauce ho fun with extra sauce and chilly, very very tasty!

Ordered a couple of times on Deliveroo and Uber Eats - food always comes quickly and hot and there is soo so much of it... We order for an evening (about £15pp) and there's enough leftovers for the next night... We'll be ordering from these guys again, for sure...

Really poor service for a delivery order. 100 minutes and counting and items still not ready to be picked up. Poor Uber Eats delivery driver has been waiting at the restaurant for an hour already. No answer on the phone when I tried to complain. At this stage I’d prefer to cancel the order and let the driver continue their work for the night.

Good and great quality food with cheap pricing.

This has been our local takeaway for the past 17 years, tonight has been a total Let down for us… We had ordered a take out online to be delivered to celebrate our daughters birthday as it was her chosen meal to have. Ordered online at 7.15pm and waited till 9.15pm to go into the takeaway and see where our food was. In between this time we had called the restaurant 3 times to see where our food was and be told 3 times it was on the way… Deciding to go in there and see what had happened we was told they never received the order… So rather than say we never received the order the first time, they had repeatedly lied and said it was on its way…. The most annoying thing is that they just lied about it and should have just been honest in the first place…. Having worked in my parents takeaway for many years I understand it can be extremely busy but please do not lie as it’s no way to run a business… We will now no longer use this business in the future.

Wow. China town right by my doorstep. They really put effort in quality of dishes. Prawn toast had a thick amount of prawn - it was so meaty! Very meaty squid too! Crispy noodles would have been great if packed separate to toppings to keep the crisp but it was okay as it tasted fantastic! The broccoli was cooked perfectly - not over cooked and not raw. It was soft with a good crunch 👍 Very happy with the flavour of the dry ho fun! Never had a place serve decent dim sum in take out - great for cravings! I ordered through Uber eats and paid for express delivery - they did not disappoint! Very happy with the portions and everything was nice and hot! We ordered for 2 but really it was enough for 3 as we had left overs and we were extremely full. Thank you for the fortune cookies :)

Special fried rice was just perfect. Texture of rice, amount of meat was 10/10. The Bbq pork ribs in perking sauce sas absolutly stunning, sauce was on point 👌🏼. Curry sauce was amazing, must say very spicy but i liked it.

The food at this restaurant is amazing, We ordered a lot . I am disappointed not only did they not deliver until 1 1/2 hours, but when I called said that they were leaving the restaurant and clearly didn’t as the 8min drive took 30min.

Ordered through deliveroo and couldn't not leave a review on both the app, and Google. The food was incredible and every single item was cooked to perfection. It is also very well priced considering how tasty it was and the portions were huge. I will absolutely be ordering again.

I’ve been ordering deliveries from here for quite a while , the food has always been really tasty and very well presented and continues to be . This time I went in person , the food was great as always but the owners should look at the shop the in the eyes of a customer, the place looks very shabby and worn out , a little lick of paint and a wee facelift needed.

My absolute favourite Chinese takeout in North East London. Great portions, always read order notes, lots of free fortune cookies and food arrives hot every time. Good vegan options and staff are helpful when it comes to allergies. They're often included in deals on Uber Eats which means you can get 25% off sometimes.

My favourite Chinese and I’ve tried a lot of different places. Great quality and portion sizes. Order from their website rather than Deliveroo as you get much better deals. Thanks Gourmet House for your fab food!!

This is by far my favourite Chinese in my local area and I am often recommending it to others. The food always arrives hot, tastes fresh and the portion sizes are big. My order often lasts me 3 days! The lovely ladies who deliver and always happy and smiling. Love the fact that it is open on a Monday which is very rare for a Chinese. On the plus side it’s cheaper ordering direct than through a delivery app. I can’t recommend it enough

This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. The portions are very generous. Reasonable prices. Food is incredibly delicious. I ordered chow mein and roast pork, and didn't regret it. The lady who delivered my food apologised for being late, but she was absolutely on time. Oh, did I mention that she is such a darling. I wish the owners the very best of luck as this is my very new favourite Chinese takeaway

our food was amazing! super fresh, we got delivery and the vegetarian duck & pancakes with hoisin and cucumber + scallions were delicious (as a meat eater, it tasted better than real duck!) and everything was so tasty (favs included vegetable ho fun dry noodles and grilled seaweed :)

Though not our local Chinese it's become our local as they do deliver to us. We enjoy the food and the selection of vegetarian items on offer. It's delicious and always delivered hot.

Ordered smoked chicken (rare to see), salt and chilli ribs but they delivered bbq instead. Rice, tofu and crackers. Have to say that despite recieving the wrong ribs this is probably the best Chinese I have had in Walthamstow. Lil bit pricey but they delivered from a long way away. 8/10 would defo recommend.

What can I say... I would rather not tell you about this place as it might get too busy! But I will anyway... This Chinese is by far the best in the area and Surrounding areas. From when you order (very clearly spoken) man to when they send you a text for you to check your order, brilliant idea. We have ordered 4 times in the last few weeks and everything we've had was really tasty. All the starters, mains (Szechuan pork) among others and both rice and noddles all great and a fair price too. But please don't order as I won't get mine!! 5/5 😊

Food is superb and delivered ontime

We order every week, sometimes even twice a week. I agree with some of the posts below that since new management has taken over, there has been improvements with more variety in the menu and even sending a text to confirm the order. The lady on the counter performs most basic standard of service which despite being robotic, isn't a criticism itself. Its only when she expresses any sort of discontent towards you - is when you truly feel a breeze of coldness. The previous time, I asked if we can add to the order, her shoulders immediately dropped and rolled her eyes with disgruntlement. We had only wanted a can of coke! Separately, with the recent order, we had a thai green curry. It was surprisingly tasteless and watery - not the usual gourmet house standard. Other orders were a tad bit salty but overall, having been a customer for over five years, Gourmet House is still worth a try.

Ordered Chinese from Gourmet House in Highams Park and have to say amazing food we were not disappointed. The lady who delivered the food was a real sweetheart. They gave lots of extras and the salt and pepper chips were the best lots of garlic, onions and chillies. Great portion sizes and really well priced. Will definitely continue to order from here. 5 out of 5 for efficient service and food. They even send you a text message of your order and you have the option to order larger quantities although the portions were great. We were told that they are new owners so menu on google will be updated, certain dishes were not listed but they made it and the taste was great.

I had gourmet house for the first time on Saturday evening. It was absolutely delicious. I came across them on deliveroo after struggling to find any decent Chinese food locally to Loughton. Gourmet house food is so so delicious and so fresh. The flavours and the effort that goes into all their dishes are amazing and the portion sizes are grand. Great pricing. Great food and such a quick delivery. I’ll definitely be ordering again this week ! Oh and their Singapore noodles are to die for. And the spring rolls - no grease whatsoever. 10/10 for me.

This place is just good, whether it has a 3/5 rating which did bother me slightly, their meal is amazing. Staff are lovely and their delivery staff a female she is so nice and wonderful. Honestly best Chinese 10/10

Asked for 12 chicken balls; gave me 6. Refused to send 6 more "unless you pay". Competitive market clearly not understood. Have been a loyal customer for years. Clearly not appreciated. Will be going elsewhere. Advice you to do so too. Really sad.

Food was slimey and cold. Took back the seseme prawn toast as their was no prawn paste in it at all, only to be shouted at by the chef. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

I tried gourmet house for the first time and wouldn't return. Although the service is friendly and prompt, the hygiene rating of 3/5 didn't feel me with confidence. The food was rather stodgy, greasy and lacked flavour. On a side note they don't accept card payments either

Saw this takeaway and thought nothing of it. Since trying it one faithful night however, it's become a regular for me. Brilliant Quorn and Tofu dishes, really well priced and my mates can't get enough of their Peking duck.

My daughter wished for a Chinese for her birthday and hadn't been to a buffet style before so we went along on a bank holiday monday evening,the staff were very polite but didn't have a lot to do as there wers less fhan 20 people in the restaurant.All the usual foods were there but not really well topped up, I know you don't go to a Chinese for chips but they were semi-warm and gave you instant indigestion, not exactly want you want at £17 a head for a mass served buffet, some of the food was really good, the chicken was beatifully moist and tender the duck pancake was good, the chow mein was very good as were the rice mixes.As mentioned the sweet service is typical of a chinese, but most people take advantage of the eat all you can buffet type meal so are more than happy for something that will slip down easily, a selection of fancy cakes, a chocolate fountain with marshmallows or proffiteroles, kiddies sweets as mentioned or different jelly, gateau or pavlova and fruit, a large selection of tasty ice creams , believe me I've had some real nasty cheap icecreams at other buffet chinese, but this stuff tasted good.The drinks were very mixed, beers were ok as were bottled drinks but the cokes were a total rip off £3.30 for a large coke thst was really watery when it came the 2nd time, fizzy for a short spell to start with but soon became watery.I would have been better off going for dinner time session as only greedy me managed to eat enough to be anywhere near the evening eating price, more than double the dinnertime price.So only 3 out of 5 for this review, same food dinnertime as evening time but at more than double the price, some very good dishes down to the chips that made you feel uncomfortable for trying just a few of them and the poor quality soft drinks at £3.30 a glass, so room for improvement even though it is just a buffet chinese

The ice cream is from Bennetts Farms. Very good quality and taste. Especially for the rum and raisin. The coffee is from freshpac. Best coffee in Suffolk. I like the sweet and chocolate fountain.

Sospecho que esta zona era por un cargo adicional como yo no vi a nadie tratando.La oferta es un almuerzo buffet por 7.50 libras. Puedes servirte lo que quieras y te dan una copa de espumante bebida tirado. En realidad no estaba incluido, era genteely sirve. Normalmente no esperes mucho de la china, pero esto fue una excepción.hospedas hecho que dejé una propina.La comida era una buena variedad pinchar en China, pero con un buen ojo en los costes. Por ejemplo había dim sum - tres variedades. Había algas allí, y encontramos el dim sum aquí, pero básicamente nos dio este empelado por lo. Las patatas parecían ser popular con otros clientes.Así que nos fuimos a el pato. Ahora, esto era excelente. El restaurante anterior en este sitio no sirven pato en el buffet, pero disfrutamos muchísimo. Completa con salsa de ciruela, tortitas, pepino y Spring onion. f volví, sería para este plato.Los platos principales fueron unos 8 o así variedades de platos con arroz y Staples mein Chow. El arroz fue fantástico, lleno de sabor en un solo sentido la china puede hacer. Yo tenía unos segundos en el arroz.Había un delicioso pollo asado, tiernos y jugosos que tenía ajo cortado y salsa de soja accompanyments si querías. Al lado de que era vientre chino de cerdo (parecía muy grasoso por supuesto, así que nos dio esa uno a perder) y algún cerdo cocinado como un asado siu puesto. El lomo de cerdo no estaba, era duro y difícil, y bastante gristlly. probado, pero la izquierda. Había restos de un buen plato de carne y estofados con salsa de soja - pechuga o Shin carne - con algunos veges en que era muy sabroso. El dulce y agria pollo estilo Hong Kong no pollo izquierda. así que me daban a perder. El curry habían ido, pero era refrescado así que traté de hacerlo más tarde - no era bueno. agradable pollo pero terrible, muy fina salsa curry. Había otro plato que parecía el estofado de ternera, pero hecho con cerdo, luego una carga de platos vegetarianos, algunas de las cuales parecía estar bien. Primera vez he visto champiñones en salsa negra de granos.postre nunca están genial en restaurantes chinos, y esto no fue una excepción. No soy incluso yendo a mencionar, excepto para decir que algunas de las ofertas de postre eran caramelos Haribo al lado y choccy cubiertas pasas. Una variedad de pasteles y poco fiable y algo de fruta enlatada comlimented algo muy básico y porquerías crema estándar de hielo (Islandia nuevo? ).Fue una comida abundante, y había joyas ocasionales allí metido entre los fillers baratas básicas. era mucho mejor que el anterior terrible restaurante de buffet que estaba abierto aquí antes. 15 libras por 2 bebida incluyendo parecían tener relación calidad-precio no está mal. Me hubiera encantado que para pagar el pato, pollo y arroz que tenía, y ahora he probado los platos principales que sería mi comida allí si tengo que volver.Es más barato que el Sr. Mizu y ala, ambos son considerablemente mejores lugares para comer. Es tan bueno como El Golden Dragon, (pero que no he estado allí desde que vi la higiene alimentaria clasificación actual del consejo era 1 de 5). Así que sí será bien para una comida barata rápido para una familia, y lo que explica por qué la clientela comida eran todos jóvenes madres y pensionistas.
