Never tire of coming to Sherlocks. Its quirky, cosy and the food is great. Lovely cakes and scones and they also do nice savoury food and lunches. I still have my Sherlocks mug ! There are sometimes queues but most people brave them to get in, and its always worth the wait.

What a fantastic tea room this is! On entering the cafe we were immediately greeted by a lovely smiley young lady who directed to free tables upstairs. The cafe is so lovely with an eclectic mix of furnishings . You need to go back downstairs to place your order order. The scones and cakes tasted homemade and were absolutely delicious . The coffees were great too. Very reasonably priced - we will be back!!

Lovely quirky coffee shop. Excellent cakes and wide selection of cheesecakes. We had a mint aeros one. Stopped for light bit of lunch. I had a tasty cheese scone with onion marmalade. Decent coffee too. Toilets are up a steep set of stairs. Friendly staff. Food satisfied our two teenage boys. There is upstairs and downstairs seating.

What a cool little cafe this place was. We wasn't sure what the link to Sherlock and whitby was, but it looked cool inside and it was dog friendly. Staff were pleasant. Drinks were nice and the there was a good selection of nice looking cakes. Ended up trying the lemon white chocolate cheesecake which was really tasty.

We have visited Sherlocks previously when visiting Whitby but felt like the independent cafe element had gone on this occasion. We ordered coffee and cakes (apple pie and chocolate fudge cake) and having previously been served then warm with a choice of cream. Today they were served freezing cold straight out of the fridge with no cream. Sadly as they had been in the fridge they were a bit stale and cold. Not pleasant so most of it was left and would sadly put us off going again.

We always do the same thing, same order in our twice a year visit to Whitby. And Sherlocks is always a mid portion element. Great cakes and my wife loves Sherlock so it's an evocative atmospheric place. We recommend. But be warned, Service is awful. The reason I've been encouraged to write this review is that when we were shown to our seats, my son cracked his head on the sharp corner of a wall mounted bookcase that juts out perfectly positioned to do just that. Christ, it must have hurt, and the poor victim supports this observation. The other customers were concerned and attentive, anxious and helpful. The waitresses just shrugged and one said, oh, well, there used to be a sign. Then nothing, while customers continued to be more helpful. Delivering our eventual order, I'm surprised crockery didn't break under the force with which it was slammed down, with surly waitresses turning away almost before the delivery had come to a halt from its slide across the table. There are other places to try. We'll be doing so next time.

Terrible customer service. We stopped in this cafe for coffee and cakes. The scones were lovely, coffee was nice and the cakes were fine. However, it was the incredibly rude staff member that ruined our experience. They made us feel like a massive hindrance to them, got our order wrong and didn't apologise, then didn't even thank us for the tip we left (which was not deserved!).

Sherlock Cafe We were having a wander around, exploring while trying to find a pub that our friend is playing with his band in June. We always look out for a new to us cafe, and we found here and were lured in with the window display. We were soon seated and had placed our order: latte for husband, Lady Grey tea and a lemonade for me.....and a scone to share. Yes, it is a debate as to be Cornish or Devon way to jam and cream or cream then jam....pick whichever way you prefer I say! And these scones dont mind either! Yummy!

We stumbled upon this place on the Sunday of our visit and we are glad we did. The cafe decor is amazing. A really quirky and cosy place to enjoy breakfast. The blonde girl serving us was super helpful and friendly! Our drinks were great and served promptly. The scrambled egg wasn’t the best I’ve ever had-it was possibly microwaved? The sausages were amazing though and I would highly recommend! We took a scone to take away which was lovely.

To be fair our visit was between lockdowns so a little queuing required but it was a mixed experience with regards food and service. My coffee and prawn sandwich was excellent but the chicken sandwich for my wife was dry and disappointing. We ordered another tea but the tea was simply another tea bag in hot water. The first drink involved a fresh cup, biscuit and milk and yet we were charged the full price just for the “top up”. Not right. Having said that the ambience is very good and the cakes looked good.

The fact that we visited Sherlocks twice tells a story by itself, the first time we sampled the best hot chocolate we have ever had along with a fab smoothie. This time we enjoyed the views of the cakes but had already decided we were going back so waited to sample the merchandise. The venue is a fabulous quirky mix of old styles that really makes you feel like you could be in Sherlock Holmes front room, all we needed was a roaring log fire and a few dogs at our feet. The measure of the popularity of Sherlocks was obvious by the queue that formed outside with people willing to wait for a table.Full track and trace was in place along with face coverings being worn to and from the tables, we felt very safe and assured on both occasions. On our second visit we enjoyed sampling the homemade scones and apple betty, and despite not being a huge apple pie/tart fan it was fantastic. The scones were home made on site that day and you could tell.We will be back....

Visited here many times before Covid 19 and enjoyed the food and service. Friendly staff. This time - scrammbled eggs overcooked (too rubbery, when should be soft) and toast too hard on the edges. While staff have masks - some wear them to come to your table and take the order and others don't. Some have the mask over their chin or mouth only??The same staff member came to our table without a mask and then with??? This needs to be taken more seriously please Sherlocks!

We visited Sherlock’s looking forward to coffee and scones after our previous visit. Sadly it didn’t go well. We ordered our coffee and scone, coffee arrived but we were told it would be a 10 min wait for the scones... After a long 10 mins we were told the scones hadn’t cooked and were flat. My current wife and I spent the day walking round the area and by mid afternoon we were gagging for a brew and sit down. Whitby was absolutely manic busy, especially along the front. We were desperate to find a quieter street just to avoid the throngs of people. As we made our way up the street we stumbled upon this gem! Dogs welcome! Lovely warm welcome. It was late in the day and the staff member, despite having been rushed off her feet all day, was charming and cheery. She couldn't do enough for us or the other customers. The cake selection is fab and it was a great cup of coffee. The atmosphere was relaxed and the decor was eclectic and funky. A little disappointed, we dropped in for a coffee, cuppa and a cake. There was not track and trace process in place. As we watched the young lady prepare the milk for our tea, we saw her reach into the chiller cake cabinet to put the milk carton back into the cool, she caught the top of a Reece's cake and knocked the top off, rather than take if out... with her bare fingers she pushed it back on top, smoothed the cream down and carried on. She was serving drinks and clearing tables, I never saw her sanitize or clean her hands between tasks. I am dubious about ordering cakes from the chilled cabinet?Lots of signs up for card payment or cash. As I went to pay there is no card option, cash only. Next visit to Whitby we will stick to going to Becketts for our afternoon drink.

Waited patiently to be seated and were intentionally ignored by 3 staff members, all too busy to even say hello. After what seemed like an age, and some persistent staring we were finally asked how many in our party of 2!! Which was far too many as all their tables were full. How difficult would it have been to say, ‘hi sorry we are a bit busy at the moment would we like to wait’. Then we might have...By the way you need to serve the customers you do have instead of ignoring the lady next to us who’d pretty much finished her lunch but was still waiting for her drinks.

Popped in Saturday lunchtime in the hope of grabbing a table for lunch. Very busy with people standing on the stairs also in the vain hope of grabbing a table. The fact you that you fight for a table, sit down and then get back up again to place an order at the counter is bizarre. Particularly when space at busy times is a premium. On a positive note they are obviously doing something right to get a full house. What was slightly surreal and added to the chaos was 5 members of staff all crammed behind the small counter stepping over each other and giving the impression that nobody actually knew what they doing or what they were supposed to do. In the end I grabbed a takeaway. I spent 10 minutes in there. It felt like an hour

When we visit Whitby we cannot miss a trip to this delightful coffee house .. we’ve sampled lots of the food here and it’s gorgeous but my favourite is the delicious creamy warm scones that are served with jam and cream and washed down with a lovely cup of tea . The setting is beautiful and full of charm and the staff are very friendly and helpful .

The frontage of this lovely little cafe is wonderfully old fashioned and its dog friendly which is a bonus as well! The styling leads you to feel like you are in a library in parts with seating hidden around corners and quiet tucked away spots.

This is one of Whitby’s hidden gems. Lovely staff. Amazing cheesecakes and wonderful coffee. Can’t find any faults other than we sometimes struggle to get a table because others look it too

My wife uses a walker. We had never been to the Deli before so were unsure how to proceed. The staff completely ignored us. It was as if we were not there, or invisible. Even as we walked out of the Deli, no staff member offered any acknowledgement of us!

Gorgeous place to come to and is always on our list as a ' must go to'when we are in Filey. Beautiful setting and everything here is really delicious. The lemon meringue tart and coffee cake are to die for. It's lovely sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine. Sadly it was raining today and as we have a dog we couldn't go in, there was some seating under a canopy for the ice creams but sadly for us just a bit too chilly to sit out. It is cash only so that is something to always remember when visiting.

Great cakes and bread to eat in or take away. Dogs are allowed inside. We had a good lunch. It was very busy, because the food is very good.

This pub/restaurant is under new ownership but the food and the drinks are still of exceptional quality. We visited at lunchtime (midweek), we had reserved our table in advance (this is advisable) and we were met with a very warm welcome. The menu has changed but still offers a good selection. The quality of the food was very good and the presentation appealing. Always a must when we visit this area. Good luck going forward, this place remains a firm favourite with us

Amazing evening seafood meal. Fabulous service from Johan and wonderful little tasters including a really tasty broccoli soup appetiser. Cannot recommend the food and service enough. Tx
