Called in on a wet Wednesday night having walked up the cliff path from Staithes. We were a bit muddy and had a wet dog but the landlord was really friendly, he even brought the dog a bone. Lovely fruity cider on draft, my friend had a beer, said it was the best pint he’d had for ages. We had a lovely chat with one of the friendly locals, We had breaded Brie wedges with toasted caramelised onion flatbread, salad and chilli jam, followed by chicken fajitas and my friend had scampi. The food was beautifully cooked, and really tasty. I hadn’t eaten in this pub for a few years, What a really lovely night, we will definitely be back very soon, thank you x

Me and my missus loved this pub. We are still laughing about a conversation we overheard when one bloke said “Who do you think will come in later, do you think Fat Arms will be here?*. We hadn’t had a pleasant experience in the other pub in the village, and talking to other people in the Brown Cow it seemed clear that neither had they. This is an old school, friendly boozer with a couple of very nice real ales on the bar and a roaring open fire. We both had a very nice time in here and will definitely recommend and return anytime we’re in the area. Tip. They don’t do food but they will allow you to order a takeaway into the pub and provide you with plates if you’re having a drink. I wonder if Fat Arms ever did go in that night?

I'm sure its ok for the locals, but this is one of the most unwelcoming pubs I've been to. Went in when it was very quiet with a group of 8 people. Having had a disappointing experience with the other pub in Hinderwell, we popped in here for a drink and to see what food they were doing. The lady serving apologised and explained why they weren't doing food, but we stayed and had a couple of drinks and returned later in the week to sample the excellent beers and ciders they had on. Not much to look at, very tired interior but I understand they are due to close shortly for a refurb. However they were very happy to accommodate 8 of us for food and drink, sat in the lounge area with plenty of room for a very curious labrador. Only one person working on the bar and taking orders, meaning there was a bit of a queue to order food and get drinks but she did a sterling job of managing this. Nit an overly varied menu but all food cooked fresh and was piping hot when it came out so can't complain. Will look forward to visiting again on our next holiday.

This pub / eatery and accomodation, was an unusual find by accident, made enquiries as to a last minute room for bank holiday weekend on the actual day, and came up trump's. Has one or two rooms of varying degrees of comfort available, the one we were given had its own large ensuite with sink, bath, and over bath shower. Found it comfortable with double bed, and tv. It also had use of a small adequate kitchen. It was away from the road so relatively quiet, although some loud voices could be heard from the bar, but these ceased at a reasonable time giving us a good night's sleep. Breakfast is also available, but not on the b/ hol we were there so no feedback on the breakfast.

We called in just after opening for a drink and maybe lunch. The lovely young woman behind the bar made us very welcome. We soon decided to go elsewhere to eat as there were a lot of flies in the bar and the place is desperate for refurbishment. The carpet is unfortunately quite off putting Such a pity as it could be made really nice. Their other problem is the other pub in the village looks more inviting. We wish them luck. Too many village pubs are closing and we really hope this does not become one of them.
