Shelverdine Goathouse in Croydon

Went for lunch before a Palace match. Beer was served in flimsy thin plastic cups, when it used to at least be solid plastic. Food was server in take out container, when it used to be on real plates. Kind of disappointing, but it's the only decent pub for food in the area. I will still go back, but I hope it recovers from the changes after Covid.

We’ve had good meals here before but our Sunday roast was so terrible we sent it back and asked for a refund. The potion was tiny (for £19 each) and arrived with cold, fatty meat, a flat oily pancake of a Yorkshire pudding and some limp and pale cabbage, plus some greasy gravy. When we politely complained, the defensive server said, “Beef is always cold, we cook it the night before.” !!! The refund was issued but there was no apology. This was almost more unacceptable than the poor food, as service is so important. We will definitely not be returning here. If anyone is thinking of eating here, a ten minute walk to The Portland Arms will offer a very different experience.

A nice place to come pre match before a game. Nice and quick service with the beers and a great atmosphere! Wait for food was longer than expected but when it arrived it was fantastic. The This is beef burger was delicious, staff are helpful and efficient. I’d return here if I was in the area

I went to the Shelverdine Goathouse last night for the quiz night, and it was a great night out. The quiz was great fun and there was a really nice atmosphere in the pub, and they also have a little kids corner to keep the little ones happy which is always a nice touch, but I want to give a special mention to the chef Alfie. The food last night was on point, even though menu choices are limited, the food is cooked to perfection. I am a notoriously fussy eater and he cooked my food to my specific instructions which was appreciated and it tasted amazing. My partner had a beef and bone marrow burger and he said it was very nice and wasn’t dry like some burgers he’s had recently. We will be going back to the Shelverdine Goathouse soon, for quizzes and food! I really recommend this place!

We've been a few times now and love the atmosphere, it's laid back and cosy but still attractive, the staff are all super helpful and friendly too. I would recommend the starter dishes (whitebait, padron peppers and halloumi fries are my favourites!) There was also a very reasonably priced pale ale on special offer when we last went. Overall a lovely local pub.

We had been out in the local area to see a children production at The Shoestring Theatre, I knew the High Street had some changes, heard some live music so popped into the Shelverdine Goathouse, and i was very glad we did. We arrived just before the kitchen closed. We were lucky enough to get to speak with the chef who is new there and she did not disappoint. I had the burger and chips, every bite was a joy, the chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I can't explain how good the burger was, I only ate half of it as the other half was pinched but my friends 10 year old who had pasta but once she saw my burger wanted some of it, but i loved it. The dirty chips were yummy. Sunday Roast will be back soon, I will definitely be going back. Everyone catered for.

Popped into the Goathouse as I have just moved to the area and want to find a new local - very glad I did. Ended up having the vegan roast (not strictly vegan but trying to do my bit for the planet by eating less meat) and it was absolutely delicious. The variety of veg was really good and prepared in lots of different ways (my favourite was the creamed leaks but the kale was a welcome addition) and the mushroom, squash and spinach parcel was a tasty centrepiece. Decent Yorkshire pudding as well. In short, I will definitely be back. If the rest of the menu is this good I have lucked out in finding this place.

Strange atmosphere for a Saturday evening and didn't find the bar staff very friendly and customer focused. Somw of the tables and chairs should be replaced. Limited menu. Food was okay. Not how I remember it. Don't think I'll return.

The Shelverdine Goathouse serves some good beer at very reasonable prices. Reading other reviews about the Shelverdine Goathouse. I'm going to come back and try the menu, because the food looked very good. Not too crowded either.

Excellent local pub with great food and very friendly staff - the Roast was the best we’ve had in London in a long time, even the vegetables were great - not just the usual boiled veg you see elsewhere which was a welcomed change! Looking forward to seeing what the new menu has to offer later in the month.

Easy to call up and book. Staff were very accommodating. Really great to see a pub doing a proper vegetarian roast with all the same trimmings as a meat roast . The best roast I’ve had in south London for a long time.

This place is amazing!!! So authentic and great beers! Fantastic vibe with great service and range of selection!!

Cozy seating areas, good selection of real beer, friendly service, food is very good. It's my go-to place in the area.

We arrived at 7.30pm on a Friday night and was the pub was almost full, by the time we left at 8.30pm it was a lot quieter. Had the misfortune to use the ladies, down a very steep, narrow and creaky staircase! Whilst the actual toilet was fairly clean, the floor tiles were filthy and the smell in there was very unpleasant. We would visit again if in the area, at the time we visited it was mostly couples, seemingly calling in for a drink on the way home from the nearby train station. I’d just try to give using the toilets a miss.

This visit was a bit disappointing. One cask beer - others were off. No low/no alcohol beers. Couple of lagers. Food quality was better than I anticipated. Service mediocre. Will probably give it a miss in future.
