Sheesh Mahal in Leeds

Worst Restaurant Ever – Stay Away! This place is a nightmare! We ordered biryani, chicken tikka, and shami kebab, and it was an absolute disgrace to Indian food. The biryani was dry, the chicken tikka was rubbery, and the kebab was just oily garbage. One hour later, I had a horrible stomach ache! The service was just as bad. An old man in a coat took our order and was rude and unfriendly. He made us uncomfortable by hovering and invading our space. This place is dirty, unprofessional, and serves disgusting food. Avoid at all costs!

One of a party 14, rice arrived b4 main. Awaiting drinks to the table eventually arrived for others, not mine. Had to leave the seat and go to get from the bar..dishes were nice and portions adequate for adults

We came here for the 1st time to join my brother in laws 60th birthday party. I had the chicken tikka Masala which was very nice, my husband had mushroom omelette and chips as he does not like indian food. There is parking near by. The staff are very friendly and will accommodated your dietary needs.

Food Poisened? What can I say? After 30 minutes of eating a meal at this place, it all came back up. Alarm bells started to ring when our starters came out after 3 minutes of our order and the main as soon as they were finished. Microwaved. None of the food was hot, just warm enough to eat. The taste was bland. To call it Indian food is an insult to all things Indian-subcontinent. Prices are way too high for below standard food. There's nothing else to add other than Sheesh mahal is living off its past glory, which was never there in all honesty.

Brilliant night out with family. Had my favourite Royal Chicken. Nobody else in the world does it. Laced with whisky and served in flames. The flavour is second to none. I have been going on and off since 1990. Know the owner well now and what a fantastic reception when we walked in the door. Welcome Home!

Worst curry I've ever had. Asked for a madras sauce and got about 3 tablespoons and just full on onion bits and other rubbish. You've no idea what you're doing. Wouldn't be so bad if it actually tastes nice, which it really doesn't. Try akbars and learn a thing or two

We went here for a family birthday we had very good food no complaints excellent service no waiting for food we all had diffrent dishes acceptally price food was really lovely you could taste the spices we left a good tip as well as long time since we had a good curry will definitely be going here again no worries ann

We arrived looking very tired (we had walked around Leeds all day and it was quite hot) and we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome by the owner (who either took pity on us or is used to seeing 4 bedraggled northeasteners cross his threshold). As we were ordering the owner was on hand to advise us (we have two children and one is a spice wimp like her dad) as to the best dishes for us. My wife had a chicken dish from the specials menu, I stuck to my usual balti and my two girls had a fish balti (which she adored) and a channa daal (the youngest loves this dish everywhere but was particularly impressed with this). The food and service were outstanding and the drinks equally good (I drank my body weight in lassi!!!!). Most importantly my family felt welcome and were treated like regular customers even though we were literally off the street. Thank you to all at Sheesh Mahal!

Amazing food, excellent service and you can tell the restaurant cares about customers! We initially ordered just a little over a week ago and had had a slight issue with the order. Upon discovering this, I emailed the restaurant with our query and the manager very promptly resolved the issue for us in the form of inviting us to order again, with the second order being on the house, in compensation for our troubles. The manager was very keen to resolve the issue and the customer service we received was phenomenal! For our order tonight, I emailed the restaurant asking if it's possible to honor the order and the time I would like to collect. The manager was very prompt and polite, confirming our order will be ready for the time stated. It was ready for the exact time requested which was amazing! The food was beautiful, the meats were really tender and flavourful, the sauces were well spiced and fresh and the sides were piping hot and delicious! I am definitely glad that we were offered this rather than a refund as it has proved to us that the restaurant values their customers greatly. I would like to say a huge thank you to the manager and to all of their staff for their amazing customer service and fantastic food!

Left it far too long to visit this gem of a place.Outstanding service from Azram and his staff.Food was exceptional as always.Started off with poppodoms and mint raita which were brought out as soon as we were seated.I opted for the Mushroom Bhajis and my friend had the Mix Kebabs.Both came with fresh salad and were very good.I then tried the Chicken/Meat Laziz Special where the lamb was so tender.My friend had a Chicken/ Keema dish which wasnt on the menu but was no trouble in getting it for him.A Mushroom Pilau rice and the highlight ov the meal a Garlic and Coriander Naan which was so crisp and delicious to finish off with.4 pints ov Kingfisher to wash it down with and a bill just under £70 was well worth the visit. Thanks to Azram and his staff but we wont leave it so long next time 👍

Wow! The best food ! Loved it. I am allergic to dairy and they went out of their way to make me food I could eat. Not only amazing food. It is made to your taste I didn’t want it too hot so I was given food that wasn’t too hot. I could not say enough about this place. It has a vibrant atmosphere. By far the best place for food in Leeds. I am seriously impressed l. Can’t wait to go back again! THANK YOU! You made it such an enjoyable experience.

Missing item, chicken biryani had no flavour and Nan was cold

SO SO SO SO NICE! Their chicken madras is to die for, I’m fussy with chicken but it was cooked to perfection! Will definitely be going again & recommend it to anyone who likes Indian food!

Exceptionally tasty Indian meal. The restaurant adapted my main course to fit my dietary requirements. I would recommend this restaurant and if I am in Leeds again I will be going back.

Great portions of Great flavours - the Dahl, curries (meat and veg) the sides and rice all tasty and plentiful. Served by a friendly and discreet team. We’ll be back. Enjoy!

Introduced our next generation to the restaurant we have been going to for years. Had a great meal and welcome by staff. Given a table so we could use their white high chair.

I came here for my 25th birthday with my partner. I’d read reviews online to see if the place would be good (it blew every expectation out of the water.) I disagree with any review that says the service is bad: the service was perfect - we never had a moment where we felt unattended, all the staff looked after us and made sure we knew what was going on and how long the kitchen may take. After our starters were finished we were asked if everything was good and if we were done; one person took out plates and another gentleman gave us new cutlery and plates. The food was exceptional! We enjoyed every single bite of what was given to us and couldn’t even finish it all between the two of us. They kindly packed our leftovers for us which we enjoyed the next day (which were just as delicious.) I would highly recommend dining here: you will be well looked after, the staff are exceptional and the service is perfect. They also offer the perfect drinks to compliment any meal and will offer recommendations if you are unsure.

Been with a colleague whilst in Leeds.... I live in Bradford and not short of Indian restaurants... The warm welcoming... The explaination of dishes as I am a picky eater and service, was prompt and truly pleasant... Food was amazing and made to my liking.... tasty garlic and coriander naans I had the fish and the chicken but not spicy, to suit my taste my friend had the fish with spinach and he took some to the wife to try as he loved his dishes too.... And.... a very reasonable price for Leeds..... will consider going the extra mile to repeat the 5 star experience at Shish Mahal Thanks to all.. chefs and dining staff and owners to have put together this combination of tastes. Well done you!!!

What a truly amazing experience. The food is absolutely phenomenal and the service to par. My first visit however my husband has been visiting with his parents since he was a child. I honestly cannot wait to return. Thank you Asram you really are the perfect host.

Avoid, the food is pretty subpar, the service is fine, restuarant is nice but yeah, Chicken Tikka Massala was watery and not spicy enough, garlic naan was ok, Chicken and Mushroom Biryani tasted weird and overloaded with peas. If you want a decent curry go to the cats pyjamas in Headingly.

Absolutely fantastic meal all the curries were totally different tasting and piping hot on delivery wonderfully spiced the naan’s and rice were also excellent I will definitely be ordering again I have finally found my perfect Indian takeaway thank you .

A fantastic meal and brilliant service. Azram is such a welcoming host, he makes you feel like a returning friend and so relaxed, just the way it should be! The food is just superb, between us we had fish pakora starter... chicken dopiaza, chicken biryani and lamb nihari...so much flavour and cooked perfectly. All the staff were polite, friendly and we never felt rushed. All in all a fabulous meal and experience, we will definitely be back...sooner than the 35 years it took for our first visit!!

We were on a trip to Arcade Clubs Leeds and at the last minute we decided to have an Indian. After looking around we found Sheesh Mahal looked OK, so we called them and they found space for 8 of us on a Saturday night. Once we arrived the service and staff were fantastic. The food was great and the price was very reasonable!!!! I only wish we had an Indian restaurant as good as this near us. Would 100% recommend!!!!!

I've been visiting here for years and can't recommend it enough. Great food and very friendly staff. We always been able to get a table even when they are particularly busy on Fridays and Saturdays at 9pm.

Ordered a delivery but apparently they are not doing deliveries. They took nearly £50 and I got nothing. In my view that's theft.

I was really impressed. The food was delicious and the staff very attentive. The waiter knew the menu really well and we were asked about any allergies and how spicy we enjoyed our food. They tailored the dishes to our preference and checked in with us to make sure everything was to our liking. We had a really lovely evening meal here and I will definitely go back and recommend to others. The Butter Chicken was my favourite.

I've loved this curry house since i was a kid and it doesn't ever drop its standards. They've added Kirkstall Virtuous to the drinks range since my last visit and its a great pairing with the food.

Food and service was superb. The lamb on the bone dishes and the bread selection was fantastic. The staff have superb knowledge of the menu. Highly recommend this place.
