Chose the sheep and penguin based on reviews. And we certainly were not disappointed. One of our party is gluten free so we mentioned this to our server, who advised us that the chef could ensure most of the main courses could be modified slightly to be gf. Service was quick and efficient, and the portions were massive. A big bowl of lovely vegetables for the table and a bowl of cauliflower cheese ( not gf). Dessert was equally good, chef ensured one panacotta was gf. Food overall was excellent and good value. Heartily recommend

Stayed in Wells for 3 nights and we ate here on our last night - wish we had visited the other two nights as well!!!! Food was well presented and delicious. Much better than the other restaurants in town we visited which bigged themselves up but produced small very average food and a hefty price. Thank goodness we found this one.

We visited the Sheep and Penguin as a group of couples and although I knew the price of a Sunday lunch was on the high side, I felt it would be worth it based on the reviews. The average price of the lunch was £25 and the wine £27. I had the beef and there was a good amount but I just couldn't cut it! When I did manage to hack some off with a blunt knife it tasted fine but it did spoil the overall meal. The veg bowls were one between 4, which gave one parsnip and 1 carrot each. No complaints about the cauliflower cheese. The meal was also marred by the thoroughly inadequate service. One girl bringing one or two plates at a time which took 15 minutes in total, whilst others sipped on their latte and watched What should have been a treat on a Sunday was just a bit of a damp squib.

A friendly greeting on entry followed by very attentive friendly service. They came to my aid immediately after I had an accident with my wine glass and insisted I had some more "on the house". I'll definitely return.

This is just what Wells needed. Something different from the usual pub offering. Food was excellent and well presented. Friendly atmosphere staff brilliant. Well worth a visit. If you want Wetherspoon's don't go here. Booking is recommended as it was very busy on the night we went. Will definitely be back.

This was our first visit and the refurb has provided Wells with another nice place to eat. The food was good, especially the chocolate brownie, with a lovely chocolate crumb and ice cream. However, the kitchen staff kept leaving a door open at the back, causing a cold drought and drop in temperature. Not much of an offering of real ales.

Small selection of food, burger was the only main I would personally eat, but it was very tasty, all food was well presented. Larger from Bristol, service was friendly and knowledgeable.

Just enjoyed a really lovely dinner. The staff were super friendly, a great atmosphere and, most importantly, the food was delicious. We went for the burger and the brownie and were definitely not disappointed! Would definitely recommend a visit and hope to return again soon.

We were the Sheep & Penguin's first guests to check in for an overnight stay. Decor to high standard. Bed extremely comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and the food is excellent as is the House Red. The manager and all staff are extremely welcoming and the location is perfect to explore Wells. We would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here and will be returning.

Really sad to rate 3/5 as we were really looking forward to eating here. We arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night. The waitress that greeted us was fantastic and gave us the choice of picking between 2 tables and then seated us. We had cocktail recommendations and then ordered our food. The waitress’s recommended a certain dish which my partner chose but then we were informed the kitchen had ran out of this dish. My partner was disappointed as he had seen both a cheese burger and steak on the online menu but neither was available and he had looked forward to the recommended dish. He then opted for the vegan burger, and then the waitress approached us again and informed us the kitchen was out of chips. It was really unfortunate as the service was fantastic but not having meals from the menus and having the kitchen run out at 8pm on a Saturday was a little disappointing especially considering the price. It would’ve been nice to been offered a compensated drink considering.

This is a fairly new pub in Wells, and very welcome it is too. Food is delicious, definitely not standard pub fare. We went as a small group so tried several different dishes. Worth a mention was the crispy duck and squid as starters, and for mains we had featherblade beef, risotto, boar burger, pork fillet and venison and all were superb, very impressive. We didn't have pudding. We found the atmosphere a little open and it wasn't that easy to chat to people sitting opposite because of the general ambient noise, but the food was fabulous and the staff friendly and helpful. It is not expensive for food of this quality, and we will definitely be going back.

Without doubt the best Sunday Roast in Wells the beef, lamb shoulder and vegetables including beetroot were cooked to perfection the plate was full with roast potatoes, king size yorkshire pudding, carrots, parsnips, cavolo nero and tenderstem broccoli. The pub has an excellent selection of beers and wines with the cocktails made fresh in the shaker the manager Jan and his fantastic staff are very polite, helpful and friendly with the pub having good feel vibes.

We visited this evening for dinner with friends. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly, attentive and helpful staff. We opted for a main and pudding each and none of us were disappointed. Beautifully presented and very tasty food which we all enjoyed very much. Would definitely recommend for a special treat. You won’t get standard pub grub here. A fairly small but good menu which has something for everyone. We sat in the back area which was away from the bar. Lovely decor and friendly welcome awaits. Thank you

Had a very good Sunday lunch at this new venture in Wells. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the roast excellent. I'd have liked s bit more beef for 24 pounds but the cooking was excellent. The cauliflower cheese was a surprising hit as it was incredibly light, not thick and gloopy but still kept a cheese flavour. Hard to explain. The food is a tad expensive but the drinks good value and its a very welcome addition to Wells that I hope grows from strength to strength. They will hopefully soon be open 7 days a week and doing breakfasts too.

Didn’t have the pleasure of staying here. However they hosted a baby shower for us, providing 17 of us with afternoon tea and the attention to detail was amazing. From beautifully smelling candles and flowers everywhere to polite, kind staff. The afternoon tea was superb, more than enough food, beautifully presented and very tasty. Maryanne herself was so accommodating and very friendly from the first enquiry. Perfect venue.

So nice to support a friendly local business. My mum and I only had cappuccinos but the scones and cakes looked divine. Such a friendly welcome, which makes such a difference nowadays. If we are in Street again, we shall definitely pop in!

Was walking to go and get a breakfast at weatherspoons when we came across this cafe and decided to give it a try instead, so glad we did. Lovely, freshly cooked breakfast that was just the right size, service was great from the two ladies and the offer to refill our tea pot was greatly appreciated.
