Shayan Persian Takeaway in Brighton and Hove

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. My partner and I were looking for somewhere with good Mediterranean food but not too showy - somewhere relaxed and informal. We'll, we found both. First of all, there was a great selection of food for vegetarian, carnivorous and vegan. All the dishes we had were delicious. But the atmosphere created by the warm and welcoming staff made the whole meal an utter delight. Thank-you Shayan.

Without a doubt, this is the best Persian restaurant. The food is cooked with such care, you can taste it. We had three different meals, Joojeh Chicken which was cooked to perfection; then there was Zereshk Polo ba Morgh (Barberries and saffron chicken, again this dish was faultless; and third and finally, Grilled Salmon that was delicious. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful food and atmosphere! Host and waitress were friendly and accommodating! Generous amount of food. Delicious hummus, naan, sea bass and cucumber and tomato salad!

Incredible restaurant, had such a lovely meal with the family. The food was so flavoursome and decent portions. The service was amazing too. I will be returning, highly recommend!

One of our favourite places. Our go-to is the Joojeh kebabs. Consistently great for years, friendly, welcoming service, lovely atmosphere, affordable prices and super tasty food! In this current economic climate we can’t really afford to eat out much or get takeouts anymore but Shayan is our one exception :-)

Wonderful authentic Persian cuisine!. Service was great and the chef/owner goes the extra mile to customise your meal to your complete satisfaction. I will keep coming back to this excellent establishment; amongst the many African and Arabic restaurants in Brighton this place is a shining light!

I went with my three grown up children for my daughter’s 25th birthday and we had a wonderful evening. Staff were very friendly, food was amazing and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and informal. I’ve been to other Persian restaurants in Brighton and Shayan is easily the best! Highly recommended.

6/8/23 Sunday evening We two middle aged guys from London were in Brighton for the tail end of Pride weekend. We had our Parisian friend with us, showing him the delights of Brighton Pride and Hove! He was buying us the meal as we had driven him down especially (parking in Puddle Lane by the Marina). After watching sunset on the beach I looked up local eateries on TA to find this one (located on the TA map) just up the road 500m North inland, from our sitting just to the west of the Pier. As we left to head North I checked on GMaps to see where it was, it was a 2km walk! The location was different and further west. I double checked to confirm the route. We walked along the beach westwards to the Hove seaside gardens and then north to meet Western Rd where Gmaps said the restaurant was. We found at 20:45 the small restaurant with a few tables to be quite busy. The very friendly waiter showed us to the table. We assumed it was a non alcohol establishment so ordered some Doogh (Ayran) and sparkling water. The food was different from what we are used to in Lewisham, London, so we experimented with our choices although with two of us being pescatarians they were more limited. The drinks arrived quickly and were appreciated. Shortly after at 21:12 the main dishes arrived. All were generous, piping hot and nicely presented. A lot of rice!! The main dishes were all very tasty with nice helping of assorted dressed salads. The waiter was very friendly and chatted with us a bit. Other diners seemed happy including a group of Persian and Asian friends on the next table who were having some special tea, not on the menu! The condiments on the table included a dispenser of Sumac, the waiter explained. We noticed another group ordering and receiving beers! We asked the waiter if they had a drinks menu licence and yes they did! We had not asked for it originally so were not presented with it! Our fault but probably just as well as we had been drinking some of the day already! We asked for the bill and the waiter offered us cookies on the house! How could we refuse!! Our Parisian friend paid the bill (which he found good value at £43.70 by his card and we two paid the service in cash. We left very happy and sated around 22:20. On leaving I decided to trace the original TA listing location. After a km walk towards Brighton we found no trace of the restaurant or any previous takeaway. That would have been a wild goose chase! Maybe they started as a takeaway near Brighton, became successfull and could only afford to rent a restaurant space in Hove? We continued walking to the car via Wetherspoons where we had a pint each! I am writing this whilst waiting in Gatwick for a flight to Budapest three weeks after the meal so the exact choices are tricky to mark on the menu (as I usually do) despite their being itemised on the bill. I posted the menus after our meal but they have not been published, only my receipt.

A small and very kind team run this excellent property. We gained the impression online that this was more of a takeaway but it is a full service restaurant and well worth a visit for the big portions of very well presented tasty food. I am a recent convert to Iranian food and whilst there can be similarities with Turkish and Lebanese, there are some amazing different spices and flavours. Can’t wait to return when we are next in town. Thanks guys!

A friend swears by this place and recently I was in Brighton and got the chance to come here. Ordered the mixed grill for one and a naan which comprises of a chicken and meat skewer with rice and salad. Very tender and juicy meat. Large portions. Impeccable service. A real gem of a place. Very reasonably priced too. I will be coming back here regularly.

The best Persian food in South East, second to none authentic taste, generous portions, professional service and friendly atmosphere. This is an exemplary family-run business where food and environment are infused with passion for the job and respect for the customer! We cannot recommend Shayan enough!

Didn't want to give 5 stars but I wish there is a 4+ option to give, very good food, generous portions by english standards and reasonably prices in today s inflationary world

Best Persian food that I had in a while! Everything was devine, even the tea! I'm already turning into a regular (including for takeout!)

Absolute must if you are into Persian food. So, if you are into the food you would expect from a Persian or Lebanese restaurant these guys are very, VERY good at everything they do. From their hummus, to their bread, grilled meats.. Even their olive oil is amazing (Spaniard here.. I know olive oil), but if you are actually into Persian food specifically, their stews are aaamazing!! And last but not least, their grilled fish. I seriously doubt you can find a better grilled fish at that price in Brighton. In any case, it's really a must in Brighton.

Two tables for 12 people. Very cosy restaurant but we were very comfortable, not squashed in. We had mezze starters with bread. I had lamb chops and chicken wings, which came with rice and salad. So tasty but not salty at all. Everyones food looked tasty. Owners and staff were very welcoming. Will definitely be going again,

Eaten here a few times now and we were the only non middle-eastern customers (it is always busy). Maybe I should keep quiet or I'll never get a table again, but the owners here really deserve more credit and acclaim. Small menu, but in a small place that is a good thing and helps ensure that dishes are of high quality. Despite that, a wide range of tastes and textures and everything delivered efficiently with a lovely smile. A place where you have the feeling they strive to satisfy and they certainly succeed.

Ate here on the glowing recommendation of a friend & it didn't disappoint. Meat was succulent & delicately flavoured, rice & sides complimented the meat. Staff were very welcoming & attentive. Will be highly recommending to my friends.

This is the best Persian restaurant I have been to in Brighon and Hove. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were lovely. The food was incredible, BYO. I would highly recommend. Best to book as it is small. I will definitely be returning. Thank you Shayan for a great evening.

Una comida tardía de San Valentín y un descubrimiento que es mucho más barato que muchos establecimientos similares. Principalmente un quita pero cuatro mesas si desea sentarse. Todo fresco casero y excelente. La salsa de chile tiene que ser la mejor que hemos tenido y el pan fresco y fresco hace que las pitas se vuelvan redundantes. Un gran regalo!
