Shaws Fish & Chip Shop in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Driver got lost chips were very oily fish is like a made up and wrap with lots of butter and they put lots of salt omg what’s going ? It’s not healthy chips were disgusting wont order again thumbs down

Came in and ordered £40 worth of fish and chips in the restaurant part. Waited waited waited. Meantime the staff are messing about. Other customers with no food - getting angry. We waited 25 minutes and when I asked what was going on I was rudely spoken to and told I’m giving you a refund. The 3 girls serving are out of control and told us to leave when we asked for food and not a refund. I’ll make sure everyone in Newcastle knows what this place is like. Never been spoken to like that from someone for over priced fish n chips. Watch and see how long this place lasts. Its days are numbered.

Wish they done Cod and larger size fish. Got Haddock. It was lovely but small. Curry was nice but not thick. Overall best in town

Should be 5* as the chips are amazing from this place. The issue is they have a sign up saying they shut at 3 and they always shut at least 15/30 minutes before this.

Always excellent, portions perhaps a little too generous. When it's busy it takes a while, but for me it's a sure thing every time I come back to Newcastle

£8 for a handful of chips and a mini fish with peas… Daylight robbery. The tray is tiny

Slow service. Had Sausage, Chips and gravy and it wasn't great. Chips seemed over cooked and weren't good they were a bit chewy with Harold and potato in. After seeing some of the fish orders come out I'm glad I avoided that, again looked over cooked. For a chippy over 100 years old you would expect there to be more pride in their food, it's expensive enough.

ordered for delivery, but messaged for collection. tried to alter but no way to communicate so order and payment stands. i am £26 out of pocket. Tried to talk to Just Eat but told the phone call costs £6!! seems like a disasterous day for what was neant to be a rreat.

Very small portion size and expensive. Most of the chips were hard, Sausages very greasy. pudding was crushed and peas and gravy were in very small cartons. Quite disappointed to be honest

Want to preface this by saying I ordered on Just Eat, so I can't judge the shop itself. First off, the chips were okay, the food was hot and delivered on time, and the battered sausage was probably the best I've had in a while. Sadly the whole thing was let down by the fish. It tasted like it was off, even now I still have the taste in the back of my mouth. If the fish is bad, what does that say about a Fish and Chips shop? Might have just been an off fish but I can only judge what I was given sadly.

Sausage and chips were good, the fish was definitely off though which nearly ruined the whole thing.

Haven't used shaws for years, however when passing today I decided to pop in a get some chips. I ordered a regular portion, the girl who took my order left and went upstairs so another staff member took over personally I think she's given me a small portion otherwise it certainly isn't value for money. She also accused me of not paying. Won't be returning and wouldn't recommend also more staff than customers

This is a proper chippy. Best fish and chips bar none. Five stars all round.

We go here about twice a week the food is stunning and the best by far probably in the whole of the country. I've lived by the sea and they are better than in the coast

Whenever in Newcastle town centre I always go to Shaws and always been happy. I'm unsure where the bad reviews are coming from? Today 3/2/3023 One small fish and chips, one small fish and a fishcake for just over a tenner AND the fish were not small at all, really enjoyed them. In the particular the fish was really nice.

it takes a lot of effort to be this bad. the staff are miserable and rude, the chips, if we can call them that, have the amazing ability to be dry, burnt and yet a soggy mess at the same time. portions incredibly small yet expensive. a "cone" is in a small tray and less than half the size of most chippies. honestly, anyone rating this higher than 1* has not tried anywhere else. a dirty and run down shop with staff that could obviously care less. wont be back.

Nice and clean, staff nice and friendly, food was very good.

Worst chips I have ever had, we sat inside which was very clean but very over priced, chips and curry sauce and chips sausage and gravy with 1 can pop £11. the chips were black and green and were all bits. The curry sauce was bland, would not recommend we will not be returning.

Lovely fish snd chips as slways

Meagre portion of gluppy, greasy chips in a tray for £3 served by miserable woman (normal sized tray). I was recommended to go here, as they still used traditional methods to cook chips. Have since been advised it depends which brother is running the shop at the time, as to the quality and service you receive. Won't be back again, I know the cost of food is skyrocketing but thankfully didn't ask for a fish to go with it. Apparently, they used to sell cones of chips. I dread to think how many would be in that, as that was the amount anywhere else that was on the tray and that cost £3.from Shaws. Very disappointed

Good old Shaw's, big portions, great food. We sat inside which was immaculate as always, small seating available outside too. Great service, ladies were more than helpful and polite. We will definitely be back.

One of the best chippys in stoke on trent. The chips are. Cooked in beef dripping and the other food there is nice. Very clean and very nice staff. I will be visiting again.

This used to be a lovely chippy but on this visit the chips were dreadful and the batter on the fish was really brown and hard but stodgy on the inside. After a wait we had to go to the kitchen and ask for our drinks as they weren't ordered. This isnt the Shaws I remember.

Just the mere sniff of a distant Shaw's chip gets my gums moist. For as long as I can remember in my 40+yrs Shaw's has always been the best chippy in town. I dream of their chips n gravy. Their fish is always fresh, tender & moist. It beats all promenade chippy's in seaside towns I've eaten in - including my beloved second home of Blackpool.

Great fish and chip shop family run. Can remember grandmother and mum taking me there in the 1950s for fish and chips in the back with cup of tea. Still as good today.

Sometimes they don't have any ketchup. Today they had very little Thai sweet chilli sauce (just a little bit right at the bottom of the bottle).......I had a small cone of chips a few days ago, and the same evening I had got the runs. Best avoid this place. (They may have laced my chips with a laxative because I had earlier complained about them)

Food is hot and portions are good. Service is a bit slow when they are busy but the food we'll worth the wait. Prices are average for the area. Would be better if cutlery and serviettes were bought to you as it's a tight squeeze in "the ordering corner"

Best Fish and Chips for miles. Traditional chip shop with " eating in " area at the back. Same family in the business for over 90 years so they really know how to cook chips. Highly recommend this chip shop, yummy.

The staff shouted at me because I wanted to sit inside with my food but it was only on the takeout menu or something. I offered to pay the extra but they weren't having it. Quite an embarrassing quest for a sausage and chip bap
