Loved this place, great staff, especially Dave who was exceptional on the night. Great food, great beer, and a lovely host.

Portion size for burger and chips a bit on the small side for the price, especially if your hungry. Staff helpful and pleasant. Restaurant section was quite...but overall a nice experience.

We stumbled across The Gatehouse when travelling back from the Lake District to London. As we were driving down the M6 we were selling peckish as we were on a such a long journey. Upon entering we were greeted with a warm smile by the bar lady Georgia. She took our drink order and showed us to the restaurant area. We looked at the menu and was surprised at how good value the cost of food was. When ordering Dave (Manager) took our order being very indecisive people dave helped us choose. I went for the Chicago burger and my partner went for the hunters chicken. Both were exceptional!! Hats off to Chef Zoe for mustering up such a fantastic meal. The bar itself was very clean throughout. Including the toilets which we know are notoriously poor at most pubs at the best of times. Overall this place was the perfect place to stop and get food and a drink if in the area again we would be sure to revisit. 5* all round!!

Popped in for some food before a meeting. Had the lasagne, which was burned on the bottom, and came with garlic bread that was burned on one side and anaemic on the other. Men’s toilets were in an awful state. The dining area was nice though, and the staff were super-friendly. I would never go back to eat after the state of the food, but would stop for a drink if I was passing again.

Food is just the normal grub you'd get in chain restaurants, nice cooked well. Don't have to wait too long. The staff are always very welcoming, we've never walked in and not had a "Hello or Hey guys" nice atmosphere, lovely local pub.

Craig and his team always go above and beyond make your visit special.me the wife and various friends always call at least twice a week the drinks are nice and the foods wonderful top marks.

This is a lovely pub, always clean and very good staff. Beer is always good but the price is too expensive. Hence why I don't go as such as I would like too as my dog is always made very welcome

Always the go to. Great food and brilliant staff. Go often for the food and drinks, and recently ordered the buffet for 20 people for a celebration. Had a nice area cornered off and there was plenty of lovely food! Couldn’t have been more accommodating and easy to arrange.

We went for late lunch so the pub was almost empty, hence the atmosphere rating..no fault of the pub.. staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and very well priced. Nice hot plates and the pub itself was cosy warm..would definitely visit again..£40 for 4 meals and drinks so great value

Had the pleasure to have Christmas dinner here at the gatehouse and was by far the best food and hospitality here in Clayton. A well done to the whole team :)

Should have known when the car park was empty on arrival 😲 Food was horrendous... Loaded fries ....oh dear...smallest dish ever ..chips pale and almost cold..cheese sauce was congealing....just a soggy mess really....steak and cheese ciabatta...same deal . Won't be back ,ever.

Five pound a pint bit over the top can get two pints in spoons , the same price

This Greene King pub is nice enough décor wise but could do with a refurb. The food was very good and served relatively quickly. Drinks range was a little short as several real ale pumps were turned around. Pub was very short staffed for a Sunday lunchtime but the staff on deck were doing a splendid job. Happy to recommend. Only downer was the children running around screaming, but sadly that's down to the parents and not the pub.

Had a fabulous meal with family here. The new burgers on their special menu are delicious Highly recommended

I have been to The Gatehouse many times in the last 30 years, and it has gone through a few changes in ownership over those years! The current owners are warm and welcoming and the food, as well as being very reasonably priced, is as good as it has ever been! It has now gone to the top of my places to eat out for the first time in many years. I highly recommend it.

Unplanned drop in on a Thursday evening. Had the 3 small plates for 2 people. Halloumi fries, chicken taco and spicy wings. Lovely food and excellent friendly service. Can fully recommend

Pro's : It's a nice pub, the food is nice but average, staff are friendly & the facilities are all clean, it has an outdoor play area for kids and a lot of outdoor seating, it has two seating areas, one of which is the bar and the rest is for dining! It's very nice. Cons: The food pricing needs to be looked at as some of the prices are far too high for the food standard.

Visited Tuesday afternoon and was really pleased with great value for money, the manger was really helpful. Food tasted wonderful especially the roly poly!

Dirty, expensive for the food they serve and not a place I shall return. Sticky, drinking pub. Short staffed, filthy tables, culturally, glasses and in need of a very deep clean and redecoration.

Just want to say best food in a while. The young lady called AMY. WAS DOING A GOOD JOB. Just needs more time and support nurturing from management. She will be a credit to the pub and franchise.

I must sing the praise of the young lady behind the bar with glasses & light hair, she did an absolutely sterling job dealing with our party of 14 people. She interacts with customers SO well deciding on drinks & in very trying circumstances with shortages of dishes, she was brilliant. Food was good especially the Katsu curry everyone enjoyed

Came tonight with a groupon voucher. Took 10 minutes to get served as there was only one staff member running around. I was the only person at the bar and he did not even acknowledge me! I presented a groupon voucher. He scanned it twice and told me it didn't work. He really had no clue, asked him what drinks were in the offer he had no clue!! So we walked out the pub to go somewhere that would welcome us rather than here! 10 minutes later I check my groupon on the voucher has been redeemed. What a joke!! Rude staff... Will be complaining to groupon and getting a refund

Amazing I come here with my family every Sunday and normally every other day. I love the food I order the same thing every time. Mac n cheese is my favourite. Couldnt love this place more.

Comfortable friendly atmosphere, with really helpful staff. Beef and ale pie was delicious.

This was my first visit in over 2 years, and what a surprise it turned out to be. The pub it's self was spotless, warm and comfortable. The bar staff we're outstanding, friendly and polite. The beer was perfect and a great selection on tap. The food was delicious, no long wait for it to come to the table. In all big change to my last visit there, well definitely be visiting again. To the management and staff well done, you deserve all the praise on a great business. Best of luck for the future.

The service was fast, the food was tasty I had fish and chips, the atmosphere was lovely great for families Would recommend to a friend.

Lovely comfortable pub with a variety of seating options in different areas that are well separated so you have space. The menu has a good variety of items and different choices everything came out hot and were well presented and excellent value for money. I had the lasagne which was lovely with garlic bread and my husband had the fish which was cooked to perfection. We will return to try out more of the menu.

Had a lovley meal, stopped off on the way down the motorway looking for a quick bite to eat and was really impressed with the place. Service was great and everyone was very friendly. Highly recommend!!

Went a few weeks ago and wasn't impressed. The food tasted ok but wasn't hot! Iv been in that pub many times in the last 12 years and it's been really good! Mabe because it's changed to a green king pub I don't know! Not in a rush to return.

We went to the gatehouse 7th august for lunch I ordered my favourite meal which is steak and ale pie , I’m sorry but the pastry on the pie was that hard and over cooked that I couldn’t cut it with my knife and fork,. I thought that it was perhaps me but someone else on another table had the same and he also left the pastry , sorry but not a very good experience

Something should be done about using doors next to tables for people going for a smoke.

Visited yesterday and again today with my friend, connagh the duty manager is so friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious will definitely be back, compliments to the chef. The 2 meals for £14.49 were definitely good value.

First time I’ve been to this Green King Pub today (03/11/23) and was pleasantly surprised. The pub is large and airy, yet surprisingly warm, the staff were lovely (shout out to Alex and Sarah). The drink was excellent and we ordered food from the two mains for 14.49 of gammon. It was a lovely thick piece too, the food was excellent. Well done to the chef and all the staff

We've just had Sunday would not recommend it was cold when and the blood from the beef had run into the turkey made taste cauliflower cheese was rock and cold roast potatoes were straight out of a frozen bag

Food was lovely, the staff were great and we didn't have to wait long for our food and I felt it was very good value for the money, would definitely recommend it and will certainly be returning soon and for people's information it is dog friendly and they have dog friendly seating and items for dogs

Fancied a pub lunch and thought we would come here. I used to come here drinking in my younger years before heading into Newcastle, it was the meet up place. So walking through the doors 37 years later was a walk back into time. Obviously it's changed, but the reminders were there. It was quiet, which mid week I didn't expect it to be bursting at the seams. We both had Ciabatta sandwiches and sides plus a drink which were really nice. I had the sweet chilli chicken and my wife had the steak and cheese. The lady behind the bar was lovely and her service was excellent. We had a natter about my time here all those years ago and agreed that it should be more like 37 days not 37 years before our next visit. I think it would be the sooner rather than the later else they'll be serving food at my wake. Would recommend definitely

The interior was beautiful, the food was lovely but it was let down by the service taking a while to deliver the food after ordering. Ordered vegetarian sausages to be bought out normal ones because ‘there were no vegetarian ones’ even though they were on the menu? The ‘play area’ looks like an after thought and really, it brings it down. Overall, A nice pub, nice food but slow inconsistent service and construction site for a playground.

An enjoyable visit on Friday. Our first time stopping by here. Friendly, helpful staff. Ideal garden area for children. Good drinks and reasonable food. We look forward to returning.

We were lucky enough to win a competition and have dinner at the gatehouse. The meals were outstanding, my husband had a mixed grill and not one part of it wasn't Cooked to perfection. We will definitely go again.

It was only midday so there weren't many people but the service was excellent & it was a lovely warm welcoming place.First noticed dog friendly which is a 👍. Lovely big beer garden & plenty of space & a few things for children to enjoy.The food smelt lovely so will return & try .

Just had a small family party for my sons 18th Birthday. Sarah was such a helpful at organising it for us and the buffet was fab.

Not been here for a long time, and pleasantly surprised for a 'chain pub'. Good selection on menu, at sensible prices. Anyone else finding that pubs at large are keeping the heat off these days, though, not just this one? We didn't take coats off but it didn't spoil our meal or our time. Dog friendly .. specific areas for dogs/owners. Items for dogs in menu even!

Had the small plates menu. 5 for 20. The mango tortilla wraps were the highlight. The other dishes were super tasty as well. Great food, great service and happy customers. I forgot to order my kids burger initially but they sorted that as well. Awesome. Tasty/10.

Visited the Gatehouse on Thursday,hadn't been for quite a while but after hearing good things decided to give it a go...and we weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere and attentive staff from the moment we arrived,certainly a massive improvement on our last visit a few years ago. They'd recently had a new menu launch. Me and my wife had the smashed burgers which were delicious,the in-laws both opted for the steaks and were equally impressed with the quality and value. We are certainly returning over the bank holiday with friends and would highly recommend the Gatehouse to anyone 🍻👍

Disappointing. Expected more. Greeting was we're out of chips and the food was average at best but hot. Asked for an orange juice and lemonade but effectively got a Fanta

Amazing food, I had katsu curry and it was fantastic, a mix up with one other meal which was rectified straight away, would definitely come again.

Had a lovely lunch with our grandson. Excellent service and food. The Gatehouse is very relaxing and has an enclosed garden and playground. We are regular customers and frequently visit with our family and friends.

A friendly and inviting Greene King pub. Dog friendly too! We received excellent customer service on Sunday night. Thanks to the guy who gave our dog some ice cream. A special moment!
