Shapla Tandoori in Ceredigion

Awful Biriani last night.Tasted like lumpy chicken gravy.Keema naan was also poor.Very bad meal sorry

Meals normally good but not happy with 2 very small meat Samosas for £2.50 - disgraceful!! Poppodums not great either. Called to complain and was told sorry, that's the way it is!!

Came a few months ago and had a wonderful meal, both of us had starter main and pudding and both enjoyed it thoroughly! Would definitely recommend

A flying visit to Lampeter means dinner at the Shapla! First ate here 30 years ago, so pleased it's still going strong. We now visit town every few months and always make sure we eat at the Shapla at least once! Tried some different dishes this time, vegetarian main courses with rice and nasns, very tasty.

Waited for over an hour for food to come , they were far too busy doing takeaway meals. When the food eventually came it was just about warm with far too many onions in it. Everyone looked bored of waiting and the staff were miserable. Won't be going back.

food is excellent.. But l think you need another chef. as the one in the kitchen must have been off his head with orders tonight..... The restaurant was busy and the takeaway was bloody crazy. Your food is excellent. but don't over stretch your staff. as your customers with bums on seats have to wait.

If your willing to wait 90mins for food, then this is your place, when it did arrive it wasn’t hot, very disappointing, although if you want a takeaway, they seem to prioritise this over everything else.

Booked a table for 9pm on a Saturday night. Shown straight to table. Menu choices v.good as were the prices. V.good quality food and the service was excellent. Only gripe being was the amount of onions in the chilli Baltimore dish to bulk it out. Ended up with 1/2 karai of onions once picked out. Yes balti's do have more onions than your regular curry but not to the extent that were in the dish. Would recommend tho.

Had a lamb pathia and I must say it was the driest and toughest lamb I have ever eaten. I was asked how was your meal and I explained the lamb issue and suspected it was from a previous night's service.Given apologies and they knocked £1.50 off the bill. The young server girl was the only plus of the dining experience.

Fantastic meal with family. Service seemed a bit slow but the end result was terrific. Son and daughter in law intend travelling the 100 miles again next week with friends

My husband and l visit the Shapla fortnightly. The staff are charming and efficient. The food is top class but l wish l could persuade my hubby to eat something other than chicken Madras with a naan bread but 'no' he has eaten it every visit for the last 4 years!

Wow....quite simply the best Indian food I’ve had in a very long time and I travel a lot and Curry is my favourite food, we stayed in Lampeter last week whilst working locally and came here Monday and Thursday, all three in our party had different dishes each time and the food was just consistently brilliant and so tasty.So if you are in Lampeter and like Indian food you simply have to try here, great food, great staff, all round great place

I have dined at this restaurant on and off over the last 10 years or so and it has always been consistently good. I have always had delicious tasting food, served efficiently and professionally. They will cater to individual tastes and have a wide range on the menu so plenty to choose from for all kinds of palates. You can often just turn up too with no need to book. They also offer a great take away service.

We ate here twice in the week we were visiting Lampeter - good food both times, the chicken tikka bhuna was especially savoury and tasty. Good service, clean toilets. I first came here 30 years ago as a student, so pleased it's still going strong. A recent refurb has brightened up the interior, nicely done. And did I mention that there's a carp pond, complete with bridge?!

A beautiful meal, very well cooked and presented,, great popper Dom's , lovely onion salad. Fantastic main courses

We came here with friends for a meal out on our holidays the food was absolutely gorgeous!!! Service was a bit slow as we didn't get to order till about 40 minutes after we sat down and Di not offer jugs of water for those who had the spicy curry's, but the staff where hard working and the food was absolutely gorgeous and would love to go here again one day I would reccomend here if you fancy a curry.

It was fairly busy here on a Thursday evening, and the service was good. The Lamb Dansak was first class. Very tasty indeed.

Food and service were much better, you just need the consistancy and I will look forward to dinning there on mor of a regular basis.

The food here was very tasty but the panir dishes were let down by the panir itself which was not the freshest.

It’s a big restaurant but was reasonably quiet when we arrived. A lot busier when we can to leave with lots of takeaways being ordered also.

Well I am pleased to say it has improved! Its still not where it should be but a significant improvement keep it up, and get back to your winning ways.

We got a takeaway from the Shapla after a busy day of house hunting. We all agreed that it was probably the best curry we had ever had (and we've had a fair few!) The ingredients were all fresh and the meat was exceptionally tender - lovely onion bahjis too! Would highly recommend if you're ever in Lampeter. I'll remember this curry for a very long time!

Fantastic food for a family takeaway- all of the 5 main dishes were great as were the rice naans and side dishes

No fresh food or daily specials just the same old tired menu available all over the place. Transient staff do not help many disinterested. Only good for a take away and even then there are better nearby

The Shapla Tandoori is a great restaurant in Lampeter for any occassion. The food is very good and there is an enormous choice on the meu. The atmosphere is quite friendly and the service is very good. We went there quite frequently in the past years as it is conveniently located in the town centre. Take away is also available.

Excellent meal nicely presented. The restaurant was clean and tidy and the service was very good . We will definitely be back .

Whilst on holiday in Wales and after a disastrous meal the previous night that was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, we were recommended to try this place. We arrived before the evening opening time and they kindly opened the doors earlier. We ordered the same dishes we would normally order back home to take back to our self catering cottage. Wow! The food was outstanding and probably the best I have eaten in a very long time! And we got 20% discount for collecting! It was an all round ‘win win’ situation and with incredible food. Just a shame we live 5 hours away... Top notch. It’s a 5* from me!

Over many years we always reckoned this restaurant as a second option to the one on the pier in Aberystwyth that closed several years ago. I’m disappointed mainly for my lovely friends from Scotland who joined us for a “good Indian curry”

Visited this restaurant when we were renting a holiday cottage nearby. Food was delicious and staff friendly. Will definitely go again when in the area.

Third/fourth visit here with friends and consistently friendly (in a very proffesional way) and excellent food served how we like it, not too much hurry!!

A very nice place to enjoy a good meal, very nice restaurant plenty of room very attentive staff, helpful and no rush either to order or leave . Good menu and very reasonable price. It also licenced and does take away.

There is a varied menu where you can choose a variety of meals to suit your palate. I chose the Tandoori grilled prawns which were wonderful, very tasty and plenty on the plate.

Well now I am sure they have changed the chef & the menu. the food was not good dry chicken poorly made, I actually left mine and so did the wife!

Not the best curry I've had, but certainly better than a few. My chicken curry was underwhelming, but the sag aloo, peshwari naan, poppadum's and chutneys were great. I would go here again and try something else on the menu. The staff were courteous, pleasant and very obliging.

Well worth the money very nice food.The staff are very friendly and helpful if your not sure what you like.

It was a friends birthday and 5 of us waited 1 hour and a half for our meal 1 table up and left we considered it !!! Very noisey food only moderate had not been marinated (cooked in the sauce) It was a Saturday evening but they had obviously booked in far too many people some waited 1 hour for a free table!!!

My partner and I had a takeaway here on the 29th of March. Was told it will be a 20 minute wait which was fine. However, the wait ended up being an hour, with no apology or nothing. Got back home which is only 4 miles away, and the food was cold, and even the nan bread was stone cold and chewy. The curries were watery and full of oil, which was not pleasant. We will not be returning to this establishment again, it’s a shame it’s gone really down hill.

Good menu with lots of choice, had really nice garlic chicken and mushroom rice. 5 hygiene rating, pleasant waiters, overall very good and well priced.

Our first time visit to Shapla Tandoori in College St, Lampeter. Lovely restaurante, good service, great food, very clean. Attentive but not intrusive. We had Lamb Makhani and the Chicken Malwa..... deeelicious !

After a period of not going we had a ok meal, i noticed changes to the menu, and the service was a bit sharper, however I dont think its back to its best!

Celebrated a family birthday here. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was good, a very good value.

We booked for a family meal on New Year’s Eve.The restaurant was not overly busy but it appeared that the take away orders were.These took priority over the restaurant.Service was extremely poor with over 30 minutes to receive a drinks order.The actual mains came 31/2 hours later and the food was over cooked and cold with one meal so awful it was inedible.After complaining we were not offered any apology and were told we could have a discount if we paid cash (our meal was over £200) but if we paid by debit card we would receive no discount?.I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

This is one of my favourite Indians around, the best in Wales! I went to Lampeter university and graduated over 5 years ago and went to visit for the first time since. One of the things at the top of my to do list was to visit Shapla. It did not disappoint.

Just moved to the area, read the reviews and planned a visit. Not disappointed. Takeaway looked like it was doing a roaring trade. We ate in with poppadoms and pickles to start. Good menu selection with a few we hadn't seen before. Good portion size, plenty of sauce with my dhansak. Lovely fresh nan too. Only drawn back was my aloo gobi was abit on the cold side but it was still tasty enough. Will definitely visit again. Glad to have found it

As you all know this is my favourite Indian , but after Saturday night that changed.

I have been using this restaurant for a long time now and its had some highs and lows, but for the last couple of years its just been concordantly good just keep it up.

On a quiet rainy Saturday night in Lampeter, to find this very busy restaurant was a revelation. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the menu was extensive and informative. Plus the standard of food was excellent and very well priced - in fact the cheapest prices I have experienced in a restaurant for many years. In short a memorable meal in a very nice environment. Truly recommended.

Even though every table full, the service and food as exemplary as ever. Always a warm greeting - staff remember you (and your favourite dishes!) and nothing is too much trouble.

Either eating in or out this place is the best Indian restaurant in the area! Very polite staff who aren’t too talkative but are still friendly. Irresistible food made with love and care although deserts are a little pricy. The fish pond is a lovely addition to the restaurant and adds a soothing atmosphere to the place! Reasonable prices but unfortunately no delivery.

Two tikka masala and murghi diced chicken. Very fresh, hot and as mellow or spicy as your taste buds would judge them. Peshwari naans light and fluffy. All reasonably priced.

We were on holiday and after a few days of local restaurant and bar meals we wanted a change. The Shapla in Lampeter came to our rescue.It does very nice Indian food at reasonable prices and the service was excellent

From the road, the decor looks a little tired but do not be fooled by this; inside is a vibrant restaurant with 5 stars hygiene rating and a friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff who are very anxious that you have a great experience.

we called last saturday evening,we were lucky enough to get a table for 2,the food was delicious and reasonably priced,best onion bajhees ever,staff were pleasent and very efficient,we'll be back.

Visited here with our 4 children having never all eaten Indian food before. All 6 of us enjoyed it the food was lovely and service was quite quick.

Lovely Restaurant with food that packs a very flavoursome punch. I totally agree with a previous review one of the best Indian meals. Almost everything wowed our group and something for everyone’s taste. The one thing that disappointed was the onion Bhaji everything else was outstanding.

I've been eating in curry houses for more than 40 years and this was magnificent. My order is nearly always the same no matter where I go so comparisons are easy: King Prawn Bhuna, Mushroom Rice, Keema Nan, Cucumber Raitha and Poppadoms. They serve proper King Prawns with big chunks of flesh still attached to the tails, the Nan was light and fluffy, the rice not greasy and even the humble poppadoms melted in the mouth. The service was attentive, courteous and professional. This was the first time I'd been to Lampeter in more than 25 years but it would be worth returning to the town just to eat here.

Ate in the Shapla last week and both times the food was excellent and the staff were attentive and very friendly. The poppadoms were crisp and warm and the chutneys nice and fresh. The main courses were steaming and the flavours really good. The Bombay aloo was tasty and also the mushroom rice. Kingfisher on tap was lovely and cold and was refreshing after days of sightseeing.

We travelled a great distance (from Staffordshire) for a celebratory night out. Having read the recommendations, we called in to the Shapla to pick up a menu and ask what time they closed before going for a few drinks prior to our meal. Unfortunately, although we arrived well within time, the gentleman in carge told us very abruptly that he was closing early as he had to go somewhere in the morning. Fair enough, just a shame we weren't told that when we enquired earlier. He did offer a take away, but as he was so rude, we really didn't feel like giving him our money. Luckily, we found an outstanding indian take away very close by. We had an amazing meal prepared by very happy and helpful staff who couldn't do enough for us. Decent manners go a long way.

This is a brilliant restaurant excellent service and always happy to help with everyone's needs so if you have a special requirement they always go above and beyond to help with this highly recommend

Very nice chicken tikka starter. Best we had in a while. Same of other starters. Highly recommend this restaurant which can be very busy at weekends. Lovely decor with a water feature inside! Just beware can be very noisy with larger parties there, not the place for a romantic or quiet evening unless Monday - Thursday.

Diapponted by the food ....ordered matter paneer, was served a dish with chickpeas instead of peas. Flavours were bland and not especially pleasant. Restaurant was full of people who appeared to be enjoying their meals though, so maybe I was unlucky......

First time dining at this restaurant! Was passing by the restaurant it self has a lovely warm decor, I was served with a friendly smile the service was great! My starter was kebab platter and was cooked to my liking my main dish was special with lamb and I must say it was delicious! Rice was perfect my man was cooked at its best ! Overall had a great visit.

sadly - whilst the food is good there have been too many times of seemingly ungracious, bland service...an unwelcome sense...

We arrived unexpectedly for an evening meal as a party of eight people. Although the restaurant was fairly busy, they had no difficulty in finding us a table, and we received prompt, friendly, and efficient service. It has an extensive, traditional menu, and we enjoyed the food there. I hope to return when next visiting Lampeter.

Our second visit & once again we had a delicious meal. Staff are very friendly & attentive & food is amazing. We'll be back!

I havent been here for 3 years as i disliked the food on last visit. The service was good but it was a mid week night i do know it can get busy on weekends. I enjoyed the pickles they have a lovely chilli pickle as well as a lime pickle which were both hot and spicy. The wife enjoyed her curry and loved the mushroom rice for me the bhuna i had was a little bland but enjoyable all the same. Prices are reasonable and if you want a good meal in a good atmosphere then you should enjoy this.

We live locally and if we are going out we never eat anywhere else. The food is excellent. Good wine choices and beers. The staff are lovely, really helpful. Always use Shapla for our takeaways as well. definately would never go anywhere else. Try the murgi shashlik (it comes on a hot sizzling iron platter and the staff serve it to your plate. Comes with sizzling onions and tomatoes. Lovely!!!

Always great food........the staff are always on top form....not the cheapest place to eat...but still very good.

Our usual group went here on Tuesday for our monthly meal out. Made very welcome. The food was great as usual and staff do helpful and friendly. We always have a raffle on our monthly outings and then manager came over and gave us a bottle of wine for another raffle. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit

Standard Indian fare for a good price. Some of the dishes are quite similar to one another and some could do with more spice.

We enjoyed the selection of dishes. The waiter was knowledgeable about ingredients and could advise on vegan options. The vegetables were fresh. Dishes were tasty. Would definitely go again.

A friend and I popped in very early doors where takeaway orders are already coming through Haven,t been in for a couple of years

I and my partner have been visiting this restaurant for the past 10 years. It has been our favourite restaurant and a frequent haunt for such a long time. We visited tonight, and unfortunately things have gone downhill. The food was much spicier than before, but also the service we have always known to be above excellent was less than par tonight. I had to ask for a second glass of wine for the first time in ten years. Our table was not wiped before the mains came out. The girl behind the bar was drinking water and playing with her hair. It may seem absolutely ridiculous to moan about such things, but the absolutely amazing service which Michael and his staff have provided for the last ten years have been consistently 6 stars and above. I am absolutely gutted to have to give such a wonderful place such a negative review. I am so sad that my favourite restaurant will now no longer be visited and we must find somewhere else.

My daughter and I were on holiday and decided on a takeaway. The food was delicious; I had a vindaloo and it was just the right heat! You knew you had had vindaloo without it being overpowering. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her food as well

Had a 40th party here with a large group, food was as good as ever, service was good but a little slow, as the place was full to the hilt. which just goes to show how good the food and service is now! well done the staff.

Hadn't been for a while but the food is back where it once was again. I think the chef is back. Management has changed but it still the best curry house in the area. did take an hour to get my main meal though I think they forgot about me, must write a nicer review next time....:)

Had the best ever Welsh breakfast at Contis. Cappuccino was as good as Home.A great experience . Make sure you visit when you are in Lampeter. Lovely ambience.

I ate there the other night and absolutely loved this place, the food, the service and the welcome. I had an excellent Balti and my friends also enjoyed what must be one of the best Indian restaurants in Wales. I just wish it were nearer to where I live!

I visited Shapla Tandoori restaurant with my Son during a recent stay in Lampeter. The food was excellent and the service first class. The atmosphere was very relaxing with plenty of space between tables to give a feeling of privacy. The young woman behind the bar area was particularly helpful and made two fabulous Irish coffees. I would highly recommend Shapla to anyone visiting Lampeter.

Ordered a takeaway but the restaurant was busy and looked lovely. Had a banquet which was very good value - big portions, lots of flavour, fresh and hot. Recommended!

I went there on my own for dinner and was pleasantly surprised.Nice setting, pleasant decor and nice staff.Food was nice, better than most Indian restaurants I find in towns. generally a very nice experience.
