Shanghai Kitchen in Bedford

I used to order regularly here, it used to be nice. But, yesterday I had 2 Singapore chow mein and salt pepper king prawn. Chow mein was burned and no good tasty. I will not order here again.

Shanghai kitchen Bedford. Worst food ever. Have been ordering from here for years and was expecting a great meal. What a total disappointment. Food inedible to the point I rung up to complain straight away and was told by the man who answered the phone nothing he could do about it. Spent over £20 and he offered £5. Beef and mushroom like leather no sauce. Rice hard undercooked. Sweet and sour chicken balls black. Chicken curry all thick curry skin stuck to the roof of your mouth and stale prawn crackers. Told the man I was putting it straight in the bin and I would not want to eat with them in the future. Next morning very upset stomach from the one mouthful of chicken curry that I tried and spat out. The customer service was non exsistant. I am very surprised that Shanghai kitchen has allowed the food standard to drop so low that it has lost mine and several other people’s custom. Not surprised it’s review ratings are dropping.

Ordered chicken curry for the family tonight absolutely disgusting and prawn crackers stale rang them they said sorry but nothing they can do. I will never order from them again absolute joke shame on you

Food was not nice at all - it’s THE WORST Chinese I’ve ever tasted. we usual but from good chef in clapham which is really good. Don’t waste your money here.

This place used to be good when paul owned it. The food is dreadful ordered beef curry not sure what the meet was. Rang them he said they boil the meet then reheat it I thought wow that's not cooking and the guy at the counter looks dirty and rude

Omg this is the best Chinese take out EVER. Absolutely delicious. The portions are a little on the small side and it is pricey but the flavours make up for that..yummy yum yum

Ordered here to pick up. Best Chinese we've had in a while, service was polite, food was lovely and ready within 20 minutes. Definitely would recommend. One thing to note is that card isn't accepted only cash, there is a cashpoint a few doors down at Sainsburys though.

Previously used this takeaway multiple times. Meal this evening was awful massively overpowering with chillis that had completely engulfed all the food. Spoken with the takeaway and was talked over and blamed for mixing the various dishes on our plates. We have used this take away for the last year at least once a week same dishes as we have had today. We have been unable to eat any of it due to the heat from the excessive chillis. The lack of customer service is shock, I certainly will not be using this takeaway ever again and would not recommend to anyone. I appreciate things go wrong at times but a responsible business would put the matter right not blame the customer.

Absolutely rubbish. Take your order online, take your money and don't turn up. Absolutely shocking. Do not use!

Delivery was late and food was cold. I called to advised them it was cold and they were rude and said it was warm when it left the kitchen. No offer to replace order or offer a refund. Will never order from here again!

Home delivery Food arrived after 1hr20min and it was cold. I called the restaurant to inform them the good was cold and they told this was impossible as it left the kitchen cold, I respectfully informed them that the food may have let the kitchen warm but it definitely dud not arrive warm as i had to place it in an oven and in the microwave to warm it up. At no point fid they offer to replace it, take ii back or refund me the £52 I paid which by the way id s breach of my consumer rights. Instead they became rude and kept saying ghat the food left the kitchen warm!!! Poo poor service and you have lost a customer tight away!!

Very rarely had a problem with the food here, but the service is awful. He is so rude, when taking, when taking your order. If it wasn't for the food, I wouldn't go back there

Our usual choice for delivery or takeaway last two times been very slow this time over two hours I know with covid they are busy but this is unacceptable and it was cold. Time to find another

Ordered for the first time yesterday, on a friends recommendation. The food arrived at the stated time and was delicious. I found the online menu so easy to navigate. I will definitely be ordering from them again. Thankyou very much for a great meal.

Unbelievably thick. Made order come to 40 pound. Probably got half of what was actually ordered.They thought I was lying Won’t be eating from here again.

Rice was good, pork was dry and chewy, the chicken was disgusting, just lumps of fat! Pork balls chewy and fatty. Never again.

Our usual place was closed so decided to try out the Shanghai kitchen. Went in and ordered and the food was ready almost immediately (which made me slightly dubious) but still the food was hot so took it home to tuck in. The egg fried rice was beautiful however cutting into the chicken balls they were pink on the inside which is immediately off putting and the chicken in the ‘chicken with cashew nuts’ was barely cooked and slimy. We packed all the food back up and returned it to the takeaway where they refused to give us a refund stating/shouting/arguing the food was cooked fine. The two chefs came out shouting too. Very upset with the service and after 20 minutes finally managed to leave with my refund. Would not recommend unless you’re fond of undercooked chicken and rude staff.

Served me raw chicken in two dishes. Took it back to complain. Lady at the counter understood. Chefs then start shouting at me telling me the food was fine. Clearly not safe to eat here.

Yes indeed a clean take away with decent portions, it's Cash only! So don't pop down with a card. Friendly staff on the front desk not bad.

We were told right from when we ordered that it was an extraordinarily busy night for the restaurant and we’d be waiting one and a half hours for the food to be delivered. We loved the honesty, the food was delivered just slightly later than that but was so worth the wait. The hot and sour soup was very hot and very delicious as were the other dishes we ordered. Will definitely be ordering again. Especially good not to have to go through Just Eat to order which has let us down several times. Thank you.

This takeaway combines good fast service with tasty Chinese food. Extensive menu at good prices. Also provides a good delivery service!

Very small portions. Not much filling. Every other Chinese I have ordered special fried rice from is a large container with a lot of mixed meat .veg and plenty of sauce. This one was lacking everything including the sauce. Bone dry. Even my wife thought we had been given child's portions.. Even the dog was disappointed. No left over's. Will not use again. Ended up using this takeaway because my usual one was closed.

Used to go here which was an ok meal so I left and tried a few other Chinese takeaways. After about a year I noticed I was leaving food on the plate due to taste and look of food lacking. Today decided to try Shanghai again, not only was it better than the others it was far superior than I remembered, dishes were oozing flavour and the curry sauce is the best I have ever had in 50 years of Chinese food. Wont leave them again.

In all the years we have lived in bedford, takeaways come and go on Tavvers but the Shanghai kitchen remains! The takeaways are always hot and delicious, no matter what we try or decide to stick to, we get them always within 10 mins of ordering (we always walk in and order) and the staff at the desk are always friendly and remember us. No complaints here.

Gone down hill over the past few months. Bad food, bad service, long waiting times. Such a shame but staff when you complain suddenly dont understand what you are saying but can add up when it comes to money. Dont expect the food you ordered.

Best Chinese takeaway I've had in Bedford - and I've tried a lot of them! This is now the place I go to regularly. Great stuff.

We have tried most of the Chinese takeaways in Bedford but always go back to Shanghai Kitchen. It is always a good standard. Hot & fresh. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait especially Friday & Saturday evenings when they are busy.

This is my favourite Chinese place in Bedford. They make delicious egg fried rice and all their chow mein is delicious. Although the delivery is quite a long wait, you can pick it up which cuts the waiting time quite significantly.

We went & ordered personnally in house for a delivery. This was at 6pm. Delivery time was stated as 7:40pm. We were ok with that. 20:38 was when it came. Cold & not all items was with it. WILL NOT use this Chinese again. I can understand its busy on sat nites but the service is shocking.

I ordered from here in July of 2014 I had to wait two hours for the food to arrive and once it had I opened it and there was a dead beetle sitting in the food! I rang them and asked for the driver to come back and refund and take all the food I had ordered the man on the phone said he would only take back the food that had the beetle in it which was the noodles.. Once I threatened to call the food standards agency they finally came and refunded me! I will never eat from there again

Had a couple of chineses from here. Foods not to bad ribs are lovely. Service isn't great. Be prepared to wait ages for delivery.
