Harko Oriental Buffet Restaurant in Bedford

As I walked in I think the owner said don't waste the food which was rude. It wasn't the worse buffet. It had just opened so not many people in there. Food could of been hotter as it just opened Quick cheap pit stop.

Attend here regularly. Food always hot and tasty. Plus they do duck and pancakes starter.. Also recommend the dumplings.

An anonymous Google food review tonight 24/09/2024. Tonight we got a table for two and tried a bit of everything on the Chinese buffet priced at £17.50 per adult, we had a good look around the buffet to see what standard of food it was, and to our joy it met our expectations, our first plate was a mixture of Singapore chow mein, house special fried rice and pork belly dripped in hot honey and wow, I can honestly say that each mouthful was delightful. Full of flavour and got our taste buds going, as we were sitting down to ear we noticed that the server was constantly topping up each buffet item, now the hidden gem in this buffet was something simular that we had in Camden London by the name of Bang Bang chicken which is strips of chicken covered in crispy batter with a seasoning of sugar and spice and all things nice, I must admit we went up two or three times for this, it was next to the duck and pancakes by the name of crispy chicken in chilli garlic, this dish alone will have us coming back for more. We challenged the server by asking her different questions in which she was very knowledgeable about and very helpful. We would like to say how grateful we are to find a hidden gem of a restaurant hidden away in Bedford our first time coming. We finished off the night with a slice of cheese cake each and a large pot of Chinese oriental Tea + 2 x cokes Total cost £45 Now for our review ( non biast) ☆ The food 10/10 ☆ Presentation of food 8/10 ☆ Staff 10/10 ☆ Cleanliness 8/10 ☆ Toilets 10/10 Although the food was amazing and the staff were amazing for a better experience I would recommend better lighting and some oriental music playing. We give Harko Oriental a 9/10 review. We look forward to coming again and again.

Lovely hot food but found pork very dry. Desserts very poor, not much variety and very dry. Tiny bits of Swiss cake cut up. Very quiet in the restaurant, music would help. Not worth the amount they charge unfortunately.

When entered food trays were either half empty or empty. After one plate I got nauseous and unwell from either poor quality or poorly cooked food. Toilets on male side were broken but still in use, will not return back here.

Terrible food, we all felt nauseous afterwards. Bad quality for expensive price. Never again. Felt like a victim of a scam.

Beware of rats! Tonight on my way to the car park behind the block, I spotted a huge rat not far from their kitchen (the door was wide open). I turned back and went elsewhere! I still feel nauseous...

Such a shame the service is diabolical, as the food is genuinely great. The door clearly stated the price of the meal, if i remember correctly £14.50 ( definitely £14 ) but when we went to order, we were charged £19.85 each. When I questioned the price difference, I was told the prices had changed THAT VERY DAY.. my friends went the next day and paid ordinary price. Not to mention, when getting the food the 5 foot nothing gremlin decided to tell my friend to ‘Sit down you are eating too much foood’.. did she forget she is currently employed at a BUFFET? when we JUST PAID? Massive disappointment as I said, food was pretty good. From what I’ve gathered from reviews she is the owner. Can we stop putting money in such a miserable woman’s pocket?

We were asked to pay before eating that's disgusting, maybe bcos we're black, or is that how it works? Because after us some white people walked in, and they never asked them to pay before eating.

Great if you like raw satay chicken. The managers must as they didn’t bat an eyelid when I discreetly mentioned it to them, to make it worse they didn’t remove it from the selection either… I get mistakes happen, which is why I was discreet but I was appalled when the meat wasn’t removed. Loved going to this place, but with a lack of care surrounding food hygiene and safety, it makes me wonder what else they are not taking care with… can’t say I will be returning.

I've been a dedicated Google map reviewer for over 8 years now, and i always check by myself, even if the reviews are generally bad (and BOYS, THIS PLACE HAVE SEVERAL BAD ONES!!). My advice is to always give every place a try, things can change. Anyway let talk about the food. The trays were not full when we arrived, I asked the waitress, and she said they would have been filled soon. They were. No problems there. Some of the food was not up to par (the honey roasted pork was quite hard and, I suspect, a bit old. The rest of the food was quite decent, especially for the cheap price. I will attach pics of all our dishes. My favourite was the spicy noodles, very tasty, the vegetables were well cooked and the find were falling off the bone. The chicken drumstick were, in fact, (as many of the other reviews say) a bit pink, but not so much that it'll make me worry. Mr Cook, just GET THE FEEDBACK from your client, and cook your chicken for longer!! I got 3 mildly full plates and cleaned most of them (I was thought to do not waste food, and some times just getting a smaller port as a tester, avoid wastage (especially in buffet restaurants I've seen British filling their plate, like they were not allowed to go back (or is because the lazy to go back and fill it again?) anymore. Then, they leave most of it if they do not like it). So.. small portions, taste a little bit of everything, don't take again what you don't like. Simple. The spicy noodles were very nice, the normal noodles a little bland (but I put on top bit of the sauce from the beef peppercorn, and we're fine after). Chicken drumsticks little pink, as said before, vegetables nice and crispy, rice bland, the desserts were, as many of the other reviews said, bought in some cheap supermarket and chopped into pieces, the ice cream was of the cheapest quality you can imagine (not sure were you could find that). The toilets, as another review mentioned, were a bit ... in a disarray, suggestion screm the taps back in the main basin, is not complicated and will avoid it to wiggle around, put a deodorant or a spray in the toilets, it helps and doesn't cost a fortune. Regarding the rude owner, I saw the old lady cleaning the floor a hoovering around, but I haven't got any rudeness from her maybe because we left the dishes clean and we didn't had any kids with us? The food was not bad, especially for the price. Me and the wife were OK with the place and the food. I may come again next time I'm in Bedford.

Update on my previous rating. Unfortunately Harko's quality went down. Haven't been there for several months, and usually went in the week for the lunch option. Disappointed with weekend quality- price went up but quality deteriorated - not much choice, empty dishes- a few replenished for us but also not many people inside. Food "overstayed" , my partner had an immediate reaction after we left the buffet. Will not be returning.

Clean spacious premises with friendly service . Excellent buffet with food well cooked with a wide selection of vegetable options and starters .Hardly haute cuisine, but a consistently reliable place that gives you a good feed for under £30 for two at lunchtimes.

Best Chinese Take out I’ve had in a long while , the staffs were very kind and polite,I’ll definitely recommend! Can’t get over the ribs in sweet sauce just like one of the staff recommended 😩

Average buffet food. Was not impressed with the sign about children over 1.4m in height being charged as an adult. I have an 11 year old child that's over 1.6m tall. Not impressed.

If you eat in here early evening, beware of limited food in the trays! Hardly any duck, just leftovers, A couple of pieces of satay chicken sat at the bottom of the tray. Very cold restaurant with no heating on. Most of the customers had coats on the evening we visited here, so it's not very comfortable to sit and eat. I'm not looking to rush back as it's gone downhill in my opinion.

Went with my girl, there was the owner there an older chinese woman, wanted us to pay up front, when we went back for more as it says all you can eat, she wanted to add an extra £5 to the money we all ready paid, then she said were not allowed any more food, shes is rude and nasty conwoman.

The old woman followed me around the buffet to ensure I didn’t fill my £10 takeaway tub too full, she called me greedy and said I cannot have anymore food, my tub wasn’t full, she was rude and arrogant with the next day I had bad sickness, I have never ever been insulted as I was with her, disgusting behaviour to a paying customer.

Very unprofessional and rude to customers

Visited here, friend found a raw piece of chicken on their plate. 24 hours later I had the most awful food poisoning symptoms that lasted nearly a week. Seriously avoid this place it's nasty!!!

Came in with my mates the little employee/owner/women SO RUDE! She hovers and demands to pay upfront before the food Grumpy all the time Won't come here ever again Well i cant anyway cause she barred me for nothing and speaking my mind Evil women.

On arrival the restaurant was very quiet, I was very apprehensive having read the previous reviews… but I am glad I didn’t listen to them! The food was hot and fresh, being replenished as we arrived, there was a huge selection of lovely food. The staff were friendly and we definitely didn’t encounter any rude staff. Well worth a visit.

Wow, just wow. As chinese buffet's go, this is now one of my favourites. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll see that I travel around the country quite a bit. More so recently, and this place was absolutely gorgeous, the quality of the food was second to none, very fresh, and very tasty too, better than any chinese buffet I've been to! (And I've been to a lot). It's worth every penny. The only thing I would have to say negative is that there could have been a bit of music playing and more choice in deserts. Apart from that. 5 stars. 🤩🙌 Oh, and in the pictures on Google, it says £8.90 but they must be old pictures because it's £13.20 for the lunch buffet. It's still worth it for the quality of food tho.

DO NOT COME HERE. I went in at lunch time with 9 other people, upon arrival the food looked like it had been there all day. I had read reviews but gave it a chance anyway. Reviews are correct, all the chicken was raw and when showed to a member of staff they still tried to charge a fee of £5 if you left any food and £10 in the evening. Absolute joke, tiny portions of food left out on the buffet and was monitored by staff the whole time because one of my friends was not eating. Do not ever go to this place.

The price keeps going up but the food Quality keeps going down but what got me the most I have asked for some tap water like I always do The very rude lady with the short hair gave me the evil look and got the Waitress to come to me and tell me they don't serve tap water anymore Even though the people next to me asked for tap water and got it I had to buy a bottle of water witch they charged me £3 for the smallest bottle iv ever seen 😐 I won't be coming back not giving my money if that's how I got treated I don't recommend anyone to go and eat there it's a joke The lady with the short hair is so rude Watch out for her 👀 lol

Delicious food, cooked in small batches so it's not sitting for long. Ate way too much. Completely stuffed for under a tenner. Will definitely be going back for lunch again

AWFUL AWFUL WOMEN. As soon as we walked in she was rude and pointed at my son who is 11 and said he will pay adult price. My son has autism and will only eat rice and maybe a few chips. I explained this to her and She still wouldn’t let him have a child’s plate. The place was empty, and now I know why! We had a group of 8 and she told us if we don’t pay for my child to have an adult meal we have to leave (she has a made up height limit on the wall) we had a lucky escape by the sounds of it!! Will never return. She also told us to pay before we eat! She was so rude and unwelcoming. No restaurant I have ever been to has ever been that rude!

That small gremlin woman was SO RUDE. I was making my plate, I don’t like to go up for multiple plates so I just have one larger portion. As I was putting my veggies on she comes up behind me and tells me to go sit down because I have too much food on my plate. And then when it came for time to pay they said that starting from today the meal is £18.40 per person even though on the window it says £14. Overall not worth it, food is unseasoned and that small Asian lady is nothing but rude and obnoxious. In my opinion no one should be putting money in these people’s pockets.

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and dissatisfaction with the service I received at Harko Oriental Restaurant in Bedford. As a customer, I expected to have an enjoyable dining experience, but unfortunately, my recent visit left me feeling disrespected and undervalued as a patron. Harko operates All You Can Eat service and upon reaching the end of my meal, a short Chinese disgruntled woman approached me and questioned why I had taken two servings of ice cream, despite the fact that there is no specific limit indicated for any item on the menu. This encounter left me feeling singled out and embarrassed, as if I had committed an offense by partaking in the service I had paid for. I found this woman’s approach to be not only rude but also fundamentally disrespectful. As a customer availing of the All You Can Eat service, I anticipated being able to enjoy a wide variety of dishes without feeling restricted or judged for partaking in the offerings provided. The confrontation I experienced directly contradicted the premise of the service and left a lasting negative impression on my overall dining experience. It is disheartening to have encountered such treatment, particularly as a paying customer. The lack of courtesy exhibited by this woman has undoubtedly tarnished the reputation of the establishment in my eyes, and I am compelled to share my experience in the hope that it prompts a reconsideration of the approach to customer service at Harko Oriental Restaurant. I must say this is the second time I have experienced this behaviour from the same woman. If they cannot operate All You Can Eat service, they should close down as this behaviour is not acceptable in the UK.

We visited Harko for the first time in a long time and we were very pleased with all aspects. We couldn't fault any of the dishes which were constantly replenished. The customer service was also great and we look forward to next time.

I came in today, I was disgusted with the service that I received, very unwelcoming. There was a certain woman that was extremely rude, raising her voice at customers and overall being unaccommodating and disrespectful. I will not be eating here anymore as this is the second time I have been given the same treatment from the same member of staff. The restaurant was also dirty, food marks still on supposedly ‘clean cutlery’ and tables not even wiped. I would highly recommend going somewhere else to eat. Very disappointed

I sincerely wish I could have rated this shame of a buffet/customer service even less☹️. Anyone who has some element of self respect for themselves should NEVER be found anywhere close to this uncouth and wrinkly Asian lady who make it look like you came begging for crumbs. I and my friends had a very unpleasant experience with her. She literally hounded us and the kids there at every opportunity. You could literally see her stare at you with disgust, hoping you get choked on her dumplings. Asked us to leave even before we finished our meal not minding that we paid more than a 100 pound for an all Sunday Lunch. The WORST customer care I have seen in my life. If you are a person of color, make sure you stay FAR AWAY. This is as distasteful & unprofessional as it ever gets. STAY AWAY!!

This place is an absolute chaotic shambles. This little lady has been nothing but rude and literally watched me and partner eat our food to make sure we ate it then we left some little bits of chicken and she had then come over raising her voice saying we need to pay extra. No good out and what was out was absolutely cold. I wouldn’t ever come back here again. There was also a customers dog rung around the kitchen

Will never go back here!! We were the only people in the entire restaurant to be asked to pay before eating. We arrived around 1.15/1.30pm (1 hour before closing) and majority of dishes were already empty. We waited expecting then to be filled and when we asked, we were told they were not cooking anymore. When I made a fuss saying I have paid yet there is not even the basis for me to eat (rice, chicken, veg) they agreed to cook some. Unfortunately what I did receive was disgusting especially the chicken satay which had a really disgusting bitter aftertaste. I ate the rice and veg. When leaving they tried charging me for the "food I had wasted" no chance... rude service, disgusting food. Go elsewhere if your after some nice Chinese food

Absolutely despicable. I should have read the comments before hand. The owner is just outride rude and disrespectful. They tried to charge us for someone else’s drinks and when we said otherwise, proceeded to try and charge us for having our own water. What an absolute rubbish place.Asked if they could measure a nine year old to check if she was below 1.4metres tall….this would qualify her paying an adult rate.Previously they have asked for food to be paid for before hand to ensure we don’t run off and do not waste food..That very day we saw a rat run across under the serving dishes.The staff are so rude.It is beyond me how they are still open.

Wandered in for lunch today, looking very scruffy as I hadn’t planned this, greeted politely and taken to the till (as per the new policy) I don’t mind paying in advance, in fact I prefer it. Courteous, helpful staff, nice clean environment. This place always looks so dark from the outside but it’s actually light and spacious. All the food I selected was delicious, too much chicken on the menu for my liking but you can’t please everyone. I will definitely wander in again.

I went to have a buffet and the quality of food was so bad. I went back home and l had a upset stomach with diarrhea. I will not recommend going there.

We visited as a family to celebrate a 40th birthday. The staff were friendly and welcoming. A good choice of food which was replenished throughout the evening. Nice selection of desserts too. They let us bring our own birthday cake in and were more than happy for us to enjoy it after our meal. I was a little apprehensive about visiting after reading the reviews but we all enjoyed our meal out tonight.

Absolutely disgusting. The food was horrendous I’ve been sick for the past 2 days. The service was very poor they were just waiting around doing nothing. Drinks were flat. Very very quiet only 2 tables of 2 (including us). Never going back. AVOID!!!

STAY AWAY FROM THE BUFFET!! There was no food left when we got there. Had to ask multiple times when more food will be coming out. Rice/ noodles not cooked raw ! When new food eventually came out they just mixed it in to the old food . people attention I didn't ask for drinks and the old lady at the cashier charged 2 drinks + 2 buffet and didn't give me the receipt! I'm going to denounce this restaurant tomorrow for denying a receipt and not paying taxes to the government.

Very expensive and very disappointing, never going back there

Been a few times. But you need to watch your bill. The last time the price seemed to have gone up again. They just seem to try and charge what they like if they can get away with it. I knew my bill wasn’t correct. When I added it up and told her. She suddenly decided the extra was for service charge. Even though I had never been charged this before. And nothing anywhere mentioned a service charge. Think she just made it up because I caught her overcharging.

Spent a couple of days in Bedford and only went here due to the Google Reviews - which I'm not now convinced are all real. We arrived about 5:30 / 5:45 and when looking at the Buffet it was obvious some of it had been left over from Lunch. Anyway, my wife and I continued and I left on my plate three small bones from the ribs, a partially eaten Crab Claw which was almost inedible, three pieces of chicken satay which were tough and, again, inedible, then shortly before we were about to leave I moved a very small amount of rice from my wife's plate on to mine. Went to pay the bill and couldn't understand the amount. After ten minutes of insisting I see a breakdown, they finally printed out everything and I had been charged an extra £10 for 'WF'. When I asked what this was they said 'Wasted Food' and showed me a sign on the wall saying customers will be charged an extra £10 if they waste food. Obviously, I refused to pay for this 'Extra' but it still took an additional 10 minutes of arguing until I received the correct bill (frankly at this point I should have just refused to pay but I don't do that) I then felt really sorry for a very large party who had children trying all different dishes and leaving what they didn't like. Isn't this the point of a All You Can Eat Chinese Buffet' ??

I was really surprised about the quality of the food considering this was a buffet. Really enjoyed our meal and I will definitely be going again. Only negative, it can be quite expensive if you have children that don't eat much.

For the pricing off the buffet it was quite poor considering they run out of food quick and take a while to stock back up. Everytime I’ve been I’ve had a bad stomach after and not felt the best but will always give this buffet a chance, I’m not the only one that says about feeling sick or actually being sick after the meal or next day?

I've eaten 3 Lunches here now, and enjoyed them all; with none of the issues some customers have experienced. Service is efficient rather than overtly friendly, but once we had a table and a drink there was nothing else we needed until check out. We have never been asked to pay upfront, but can understand why this may be done in busy periods. The buffet was very well manged, and food hot, topped up little and often, the way it should be. Yes the pancakes are tasty chicken and not duck, but there are also good veggie, beef and pork options - the latter being particularly good. For a cuisine not known for its desserts the menu options here was I thought excellent, and if only the fresh fruit was authentic, what's not to like about cheesecake and green jelly?

Went here as a family trip with my 2 children & was a lot of money for what it was. Food had been sat in hot hold for ages & was soggy. The prices was not even advertised and wiped off of the window so you didn’t know how much anything was until you’d finished eating. My children aged 2 & 5 couldn’t finish all of their food they left a small amount on their plates & they kept all of the wastage and said this is what you have wasted usually they charge £10 for wastage on an evening but they didn’t charge me for that just made a point of collecting it all and showing me. Very rude staff, disgraceful services kept watching us eat all evening. My daughter accidentally knocked a plate off of the table (she’s only 2) and they charged me £20 for this even though it was a tiny little side plate & clearly an accident. Will be avoiding at all costs now what a shame as this was a first time trying this restaurant. Never again, rude & not family friendly at all.

After the pandemic, this place, in my opinion, has lowered the level and increased the price.

When I asked her why are we being charged the regular price if there was nearly nothing to choose from, she started being rude and shouting at me in front of other customers. Apart from that, place was cold and Coca-Cola flat. Avoid, avoid,avoid.

Average food, shouting at children, warned about waste charge for clean plates. Disgusted by the customer service!

Goog food as usual! They increased all the prices with £1-2.

Finally complained, and was further insulted when the manageress made a comment about my eczema issue. Feel like going to the press. Only positive was the glass of red!! Total bill for this humiliation: £21.50. Like Fawlty Towers on steroids AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Clean and comfortable food was good but not in your face flavor

Went in for take out.Really bad service pointed to the menu as to what I wanted was given the wrong order was told it was my problem. And wouldnt change the order so had to pay for another dish that i wanted.Ordered curry sauce Instead of sweet and sour with chicken balls and was told I didn't then she went to get sauce from the buffet bar not fresh from kitchen. Was told it was my problem. Absolutely rude and terrible customer service. Will never go here again

Ok i have been here twice with a friend and both times it has been excellent. No problems with service, food quality or anything else. The desserts were certainly better than the average in an Oriental Restaurant. I understand there have certainly been issues with customers leaving without paying so i can see why that would be an option.. I do wonder with the similarity of phrasing with some of the negative reviews whether something of "a takedown operation" is in progress

Awful time. Ruined our New Years Eve with abhorrent staff and food poisoning (frequent, judging by this restaurant’s reviews). Staff insisted the fried chicken wings were marinaded… see the pics and judge for yourself…. RAW CHICKEN It was handled awfully by staff who told us “go to the hospital if you feel bad”. Not so much as an offer to reduce the bill. After we were told to leave following complaints (and paying full price) the Manager (lady mentioned in other reviews I assume) told us to Pi** Off, with the cook coming out asking “do you want to fight” You couldn’t pay me to go back to this shambles of a restaurant. Appalling experience. Reported to Environmental Health. Vile vile place.

Disgusting place. Walked in only to be told to pay now because of the way my partner and his friend looked, not too happy about being treated like that but...we paid. Took a bit of our food and it was stone cold. Asked for a refund and was refused, police called. These owners are rude, disrespectful and completely out of order. Do not waste your time going here, you will be very disappointed

Good quality, all-you-can-eat buffet. Decor a bit worn here and there but its on our favourites list now.
