Ordered food and it came 20 minutes early. Yay.

I made an order here last time. It was amazing. The salt and pepper spare ribs were so tasty, I really enjoyed eating them. And all other foods were also delicious. Thank you for your wonderful foods.

So this used to be my local way back when. So when I was nearby recently I took a punt of my old favourite dish plus a new one. Whist a little different from what I used to have it was still very tasty, maybe slightly too much salt but over all it was good and hit the right memory spot. Tried garlic chili chips and a side and they were the best we'd had from any Chinese takeaway in a really long time. Definite warmth and flavour to them

Placed order to be delivered it didn’t arrive called them they said the address was taken wrong 🤷‍♀️so I asked for a reduced bill for inconvenience. It was agreed but!! When order arrived it it was still full price but with an added dish 🤷‍♀️of something random 🙄yuk!! The curry was so hot 🥵 we couldn’t eat it and the chicken balls were 😳pink inside 😳obviously no way we were eating them all together a very expensive £35😳waste of money Shame we have used them for years! Probably not in the future

Just received a delivery from Shanghai house which included special chop suey. The food was lukewarm, little sauce, no bean sprouts or water chestnuts. The sauce was very peppery and no colour. This is worst dish I have had from them. Will not use again ever and can only advise those considering using them don't waste you money.

This take a way is the best I've found in Oxford, the food is always good and if you have it delivered it always arrives hot.

I’ve avoided this place for a while as previously had bad food and service. Gave it another go and had the same poor experience. Items were missing from my order and took them over half a hour to bring the missing items after me calling several times and being met with unapologetic and rude service (the delivery driver was the only one who was nice in this whole experience). Food was gross, especially the rice. Such a shame as a for a number of years this was my favourite place but the last year it has gone downhill in my opinion!

Me and the wife had a large portion of the crispy aromatic duck balls and they were blissful. I found myself dreaming and fading away to distant chinese lands upon eating the duck balls. I would highly recommend this takeway it's delicious. The food did take a while to come but me and the wife used that time wisely ;).

Attended for a job I had and decided to eat afterwards, the food was absolutely lovely and the portion sizes were very generous. The sweet and sour sauce was really nice as well. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Would really recommend if ever you’re passing by. - The engine that fixed the phone

Great Chinese takeaway. We ordered about 6 dishes, it was ready on time friday 6pm and everything tasted delicious. Only thing, make sure you have cash! 😖

Absolutely disgraceful service my son went in to collect our order which came to £21.50 he gave them £30 cash and they short changed him by £5 on purpose and refused to give us the correct change we will never go back to that place again and I will encourage you if you do go check every penny they give in change! disgusting

If there's a better Chinese takeaway....let me know and I will try it. Okay I admit, I usually get the same order each time...the special chow mein....try it, its very tasty. I found the staff friendly and food good. What more can you ask for. The food is cooked fresh...I was invited into the kitchen, (see pictures).

Horrendously rude Eastern European driver. If he was my employee I'd fire him without hesitation. Food was nice but average. Would never give them my money again...

They sent the wrong order twice and was rude and the phone even ended the call, i had to get a taxi back to the shop to take the absolute disgusting food and get my money back, do not ever use this place

Avoid! Used to be good, gone down hill big time. We had a awfull meal from here. Sent incorrect items, what we did get was tasteless and not cooked thoroughly. Had to throw it out. Tried to phone to complain but they kept hanging up.

Not the place to go if you want freshly cooked aunthentic chinese food. Went in and ordered singapore fried rice without seafood or pork. Girl at the counter took the order then came back and said the chef said we cant do that and you should order chicken fried rice as its the same thing. I explained that i didnt want chicken fried rice as i like the spicey seasoning and flavour of singapore style, i just dont eat seafood or pork. She stood by her ground repeating chicken fried rice is the same thing at which point i pointed out to her that they arent the same which is why they have different names and left. The reason they couldnt do it is because the dishes are pre cooked and reheated, they couldnt seperate the unwanted elements from the singapore mix and could not be arsed to throw a bit of rice with the right ingrediants into a wok. This is a place that believes its customer dont really known what they are eating and will serve them whatever tat suits them. My advice is give them a miss

Took two hours for delivery to arrive, food was cold when it got here. Food has gone down hill from a few years ago. Won’t be using again.

Used to be really nice food but just lately it’s become very expensive and very average. The lady behind the counter is miserable and rude.

Bit into a chicken ball tonight and found something black in it. Called the place to tell them about it, gave me their email and I still haven’t heard back from them.

After reading these reviews, I was put off. Shame as I really fancied a foo yung.

I've been to this place a few times and each time the woman who works there has been really rude to me and I think she's racist. On my most recent visit she ignored me and served a white customer even though I was there first and again she was really rude when she did serve me. Its the last time I'm going there, if you're brown I would avoid this place too

Been ordering from here for 30 plus years. what can I say, being a family run business is great, you hardly get those these days. BUT they do need to get with the times. they used to be the only Chinese near us but not anymore, they are in they own little world. The shop itself never change but the priced did! yikes! the food is still good, can't complain.

Worst possible experience. Ordered. Paid. Agreed delivery time. Eight calls later, nothing. Money taken. The place is an absolute sham. Dodgy as possible. Wouldn’t touch the place again.

Seems like a family run place but they need to find a more friendly person for the front desk. Good food with decent portions, the front desk lady seems quite unhappy at her job and had a dour personality which can be a big turnoff. I got the Tofu vegetable with fried rice. You can’t really screw up tofu with vegetables. Fried rice was nothing to write home about - just fried. No eggs, green peas or carrots that you see in typical Chinese fried rice.. i would give this place a 4 star but I was shocked to find no fork or paper napkin in my bag even after I had asked the front page for a paper plate (which should have clued the lady in) so had to beg the nearby peri-peri burger place for a fork. By the way they accept **Cash Only** they turned away people who had no cash when I was there. For the money, there are better Chinese restaurants nearby but that Asian Mama Chinese place seemed MUCH better but has MSG in their food and unfortunately cannot do without. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being best… Food - 7 Service - 6 Atmosphere - 7 Value - 7

Ordered from this takeaway for years. Horrific meal. Pawns will chilli and garlic and all we got was a package of almost raw ginger. Burnt out mouths and was vile. Will not order ever again. Sad after 10years+ custom

Once again another fantastic take away

Very disappointed with tonight's meal.. I ordered beef chop suey. As soon a I took the lid off I knew I wouldn't like it. All I could smell and taste was jarred lazy garlic! I love garlic but really dislike lazy garlic and this was full of it 🤮..

This is my go to Chinese place. Can't fault the various meals I've ordered from here. All being extremely tasty and always satisfied.

This is very popular Chinese Takeaway offering a wide selection of food at reasonable cost. Portion sizes are good and Very Tasty. Would advise pre order as they get Very Busy..

Gone down hill rapidly which is such a shame. Food isn't the same, missing items from order, 1 hour plus wait for collection when told 10 minutes so having to wait around which isn't ideal. Understand tricky times at the moment but spend your well earned money elsewhere. Far better takeaways within close proximity to here. We will not be returning.

I’d never normally slate any business as I know how hard it can be ..... BUT Tonight we decided on a treat and ordered a Shanghai house from headington..... they haven’t got the best reviews but we have always enjoyed it until today.it was bloody disgusting !!!!! order was missing things called to report it and the customer service was shocking he sighed you could feel the eyes rolling!!! While on the phone i tucked in to the worst cooked king prawn I’ve ever had and told them so there response was ... will refund when someone is there that can do that !!!! Getting something wrong or having a bad meal isn’t the end or the world but some decent customer service would of solved it ..... NEVER will we order from here again

Rang up at 6.30 placed order they said 30 minutes got there just before 7 picked up food got home food was stone cold and chicken balls undercooked we only live 5 minutes away

Al llamar a la casa de Shanghai para informar esto, ¡todo lo que pudieron hacer fue un reemplazo gratuito del plato de carne!La comida y la higiene deben ser la máxima prioridad para cualquier restaurante / servicio de comida para llevar, pero claramente no es de ellos ni es el servicio al cliente. A menos que quieras un lado de cabello negro con tu chino, ¡no recomendaría comer de aquí! Me da miedo pensar en lo limpios que están los lados de la cocina. . . ¡1/10 en eso!

Tried the Set Menu C for £14 per person. Put me off Chinese take away for quite a long time. Inedible 🤢 I bet the owner does not eat what he serves. Also does not accept card and insist on using cash despite being in the middle of pandemic

Shanghai House is by far the best Chinese takeaway in Oxford. Superb Food and Service - all at reasonable prices. I have been going there for years !!

It is like a takeaway from the old days, but I thought it was delicious! However, we ordered some sweet and sour chicken balls and when we got home they had forgotten the sauce. Since we live some way away I emailed them to let them know of their mistake. Despite following this up with a further email they did not respond. It's a pity about the customer service as I would have rated them higher.

Not good at all. I doubt the owners eat the food they serve. It’s like 1980s Chinese takeaway - bland.

Subió para tratar de resolver, la disculpa era inexistente por la oferta de alimentos de reemplazo la próxima vez irrisoria. . . . . . . . después de los impactantes esfuerzos para resolver el problema, e incluso la comida que apareció originalmente estaba mal cocinada y no muy buena. El pedido se realizó a las 7. 45 la llamada del gerente se recibió 2 horas y media después. . . . . . ¡NUNCA NUNCA HAGA UN PEDIDO DESDE AQUÍ! ! !

The lemon chicken I got was hard and rubbery, it is the strangest texture and was inedible. It was as if it was frozen cooked and frozen again. I'm honestly worried about food poisoning from the food here and I threw it away.

Cash only takeaway- got there on my way home after a long day to find I couldn't buy anything because I was 40pence short - went home and ate toast instead. It's 2019, who on earth only takes in cash only 😡

Wanted to try a new chinese resturant so went there. The portion size is small. The staff was also rude when asked about how spicy the food would be. Kung Pao chicken was smelly. Food is not tasty at all. Never going there again.

I have been going to shanghai house fir years to get my meals. Thwy have always been brilliant and staff very friendly. I highly recommend this place.

The Shanghai House has been at 127 London Road in Headington since 1970. It produces good, freshly cooked Chinese food at a reasonable price. Rather quirkily it will only accept cash, but as there are several nearby banks with cash machines, this isn't really a problem. It has a top hygiene rating of 5, which is important to me: some eating places in Headington have an abysmal 1 or 2. You need to beware of the fact that (1) it is closed on Mondays (although it is open on bank holiday Mondays and then closes on Tuesday instead), and (2) it is always closed at lunchtime except on Fridays and Saturdays. It is takeaway only and has no tables.

The best curry sauce, good chips, great takeaway (been going since 1988).

Brilliant Chinese takeaway. Wide range of dishes. Fast service. Pleasant staff. Only bad point is that they only accept cash – no credit cards. Spend over £30 and you'll get free extras such as prawn crackers.

How tragic are these portion sizes... £5.80 for a tiny box of chicken chow mein that just about covers your palm, it's barely enough to qualify for a starter - very disappointing and unfilling. Also not sure why businesses in 2019 still exist that are cash only.

We have used this take away on a regular basis. Phone ahead and collect you food and it has always been hot. The man taking the orders is very polite and as yet all orders have been correct.

Not impressed with takeway, food was not delicious and was juice all over the box. Don't think its worth the money.

Terrible sweet&sour chicken, sauce tastes like red, super sweet juice thickened with potato starch. Vegetable spring rolls are way worse than those bought in the shop around the corner and heated at home... Additionally, such poor quality isn't reflect in prices...

I do not want to give this take away any stars awful rank etc the food is disgusting I have used this take away for many years but for the last 6 months awful If I order a delivery always turn up cold last night I ordered a meal chicken and duck with noodles it was just full of fat if you can imagine the size of a chicken breast it was bigger .I telephoned the manager could not be bothered no apology just told me to take the fat out of the meal I was just left with beansproutsI asked him what he was prepared to do about this he said nothing. I also ordered spring rolls and they were soggy and hardly anything in them , garlic ribs were .... please don't waste your money

I've been a loyal customer here for more than 30 years and the food used to be excellent. Has gone down hill of late. And is also very expensive as prices just been put up again Tonight I ordered a mixed meat curry and got no meat when I phoned too complain the manager Alex was rude and unhelpful I was spending £25 a week here and he actually advised me to take my money elsewhere. Do not eat here the food is very hit and miss and management clearly don't care about customers!

My family have been going here for years and we absolutely love it. No where else compares, especially when it comes to their shredded chilli beef!

This has been our go to Chinese takeaway since we moved here in 1981. The food is tasty and fresh and authentic. Quick efficient service and reliable quality. Now you can even phone ahead and pick meal up when ready. Highly recommended.
