There's around 4 Chiense Restuarants I Oxford I love, this is one of them, Chinese food, what's good and what's not, the quality and how you rate it is often subject, There's a lot of variation tending on the restaurants approach too, modern, traditional, a mix , does it focus on a style or region..having said that I think this place is in the top 4 for me anyway and hey its been there forever so... I am never disappointed, There's a lot in Oxford I would say are very average and you may well disagree but in terms of Paddy's I rate it.

You wouldn’t notice it from the outside but it’s a secret gem! Good atmosphere - the quiet music and decorations. Most importantly food served hot, generous portions and very delicious. My personal favourite - crispy lamb hot and spicy vermicelli soup (on the photo) Other recommendations - sizzling beef, mapo tofu, milk tea and hot pot. If you like Chinese food, spicy food or just want to try something different - visit this place

Enjoyed a lovely meal with a few friends last night. The service was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. With the exception on one unidentified dish the food was fantastic. As a real bonus my friends bet me £50 that i wouldn't eat the entire unidentified dish of onion and hot salty snot. I'm pleased to report that I'm now £50 richer. The table has a spinning center, thought that was a nice touch.

Used to be great busy standard dim sum but this was by far the worst dim sum I have ever had and possibly one of the worst meals. Staff are lovely, COVID measures make it a weird environment, background music is awful but the food surpasses in it inedible qualities - way too thick chung fun filled with dried up cubes of meat, bland shu mai, paper wrapped prawns filled with hot cooking fat, unseasoned flavourless wan ton soup, burned turnip paste. Oxford needs a great place for dim sum and this is not it.

Was here recently for its steamboat hotpot. Pros: -The fish balls, shrimp and calamari were good. -Staff were nice. Cons: -Soup was extremely salty even after adding lots of water. -The beef and pork were in stark contrast to the restaurant’s adverts. They were shredded to a point that the sight of them was revolting. -Choices were a bit too little. -Radish was bitter. Price was quite cheap (£18) but I would rather pay more for better quality. Will not visit again.

It might be easy to miss Paddyfields as it looks a bit inconspicuous on the outside and is not as widely lauded as some of the other Chinese restaurants in Oxford but if you are looking for an economical yet filling meal that will leave you thinking about it for days this restaurant is a must -try! Their menu can be a bit disorienting as there are so many options but the staff are very helpful and will give you recommendations and answer any questions. If you are going as a group it’s a good idea if everyone orders what they find appealing and you then share as then everyone will get a chance to try out more menu items. We went as a group of four and ordered a shredded crispy duck, pork belly hot pot, a beef in oyster sauce sizzle, black bean beef noodles, mixed meat dumplings, glutinous rice and a spicy sour soup. There was literally not a single dish that we disliked from the ones we ordered, everything was astonishingly delicious, it was prepared super quickly and the staff served it with a lot of care and attention to detail. The price in the end was £24 per person but considering we definitely ordered more than we could eat, I’d say you can get an amazing meal here for about £20 a head. Again I would like to emphasise that the staff was really kind and quick with the service and even patiently waited for us to finish our meal even as they were starting to close the restaurant. Overall brilliant food and excellent service for a very reasonable price, 5⭐️ from me

Genuinely cannot praise this place enough. Before I sat down, I was met with an automatic temperature checker and a full walk-through sanitiser, followed by hand-sanitiser. All tables are surrounded by transparent plexiglass and all staff were constantly wearing masks, being very cautious with distance and ensuring all tables were thoroughly cleaned (not just wiped) between customers. As far as Covid protection goes, Paddyfields has done the most that I've seen a restaurant do, which is very reassuring. I went for hotpot, which was excellent. The dishes were diverse, the portions were plentiful the meat was high quality, especially for the given price! The seafood in particular was lovely, so I'd definitely recommend. I was able to enjoy a range of differing dishes which were thoroughly enjoyed. My host made me feel incredibly welcome, having conversations where possible, but made sure not to be intrusive of the meal. Overall, a great experience and I'll be back very soon.

10/10 experience! As soon as you go in, there is an automatic temperature checker and full body sanitiser booth/gateway to step into, then hand sanitiser. The staff showed us to our table which felt like it’s own personal booth with clear screens all sides. All the staff were consistently wearing masks properly. Any extra utensils which were bought over were visibly cleaned before being handed over and once other tables were vacated, staff took great measures in disinfecting (not just cleaning!) the tables and chairs. Going above and beyond in terms of Covid security. I went for hotpot which was super. Big portions of fresh food. I was surprised by the quality of the food for the price charged (~£23pp on a weekend). Unlike most places, you can also reorder more plates of food if required. For extra money, can order fancier seafood for the hotpot like crab and sea bass. Freshly fried yaotiu too. Also a big array of dipping sauce items which most places charge extra for. Staff were very attentive and friendly. They speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English. Also had a really nice iced lemon tea - not like a normal lemon tea, was much much nicer! Overall would definitely come again. Thank you 🥰

Having struggled to find a nice Chinese Restaurant in recent years we were really pleased with our visit. The restaurant certainly had taken plenty of safety measures around C-19 with temperature checks, sanitizing stations, screens and more. These are a bit daunting as you walk in but you soon adapt. Having seen the menus online some of our group (7) already had an eye on the set menu and we also had a Thai set menu whilst the kids opted for some starters for their mains. Food arrived promptly and was well presented. Lovely fresh ingredients, and none of it was over cooked. Thai meals were not overly spicy but we're still tasty. Portions were of a good size without feeling too stuffed at the end of it. Service charges are automatically applied (a bit of a personal bug-bear) but the staff were very accommodating and helpful so it was well earned this time. Takeaway service is also available so we may give this a try in the future but will definitely be back for another visit to the restaurant.

We had an excellent Valentine's Day dinner there, with three appetizers (duck, spare ribs and spring rolls), and pork and prawns as the two main courses. It was a bit on the pricey side, but the service was excellent. This was partially because the restaurant was nearly empty. We think it was because of the corona virus scare--come on people! No reason to think that Chinese people have necessarily traveled to China, and they probably have more incentive to self-quarantine if they're in the UK after returning from China. Anyway, this place is worth a visit.

Came to eat from the dim sum menu and we were looking forward to it but it was literally the worst kind I’ve tried.. tasted like it was cooked from the store bought frozen ones.

The rudest staff ive come across, pretty much had to self serve and they still wanted 10% service charge. Dimsum tasted like a dog spewed in my mouth compared to other authentic chinese restaurants. The food was about a 2 weeks old and then microwaved. Basically its a s**t tip

Of all the Chinese restaurants I ate at during package tours in Italy, Switzerland, France, and the UK, this was my favorite. However, the corn and egg soup (picture attached) served as an appetizer strangely had no taste.

I love the food there though there's so much choice it takes a long time to go over the menu. Beef satay, chicken wings, spare ribs and aubergine were all excellent. Lots of Chinese clients were there too which is a good sign.

Food was cold and came out in minutes. Which was why it was cold. Service was shocking and I complained and still got charged full bill plus 10% service charge. Dim Sum was great which gets it 1 star. Everything else was shocking!

Brilliant food - fast and the taste is amazing! The service is also fast and friendly. Overall atmosphere is lovely. Definitely recommend. Do not be put off by the appearance out front, this does not reflect the quality you find inside!

The service are friendly and food are good too. Highly recommend the egg fried rice and their soup with dash of black vinegar. The deep fried fish with lemon is oddly too sweet but the fried squid is perfect.

Went for dimsum which was underwhelming. Funnily enough, their dry hotpot (szechuan dish) is good. Able to accomodate big groups (roundtables for 10). They serve big tour groups as well so it can get quite rowdy.

Squeezed into a window seat. Ordered a mix of rice, veg, soup and dim sum. All quite underwhelming, service cold and the restaurant quite grubby. A second disappointing visit, other better options in Oxford.

Many years ago dim sum and service was good but now it’s awful! The dim sum tastes frozen and this is not the first time it has tasted this way. One time I ordered “glutinous rice” and in the middle it was still rock hard and cold, and many other little errors in the food. The second time a few months after I had many more errors... the glass was dirty with some type of yellow substance inside my water, the Hofun tasted bland and under cooked still, and again the dim sum tasted like cardboard and rock solid (frozen)...all the food tasted exactly the same with no flavour. Also was not busy at all (lunch hours) for a Chinese restaurant which tell us a lot. Not to mention the service is also not great and not attentive.

The food was very nice but the cost is too much £5 for a bottle of water and an impertinent surcharge of £6:10, if this is a gratuity why leave a highlighted place on the payment slip for further. £60.10 for two, I consider over the odds.

The atmosphere was great - lively and authentic. Several happy groups in the main restaurant and people popping in and out. Big menu and food was interesting and tasty. Not particularly cheap - £55 for 2 people (starter & main & some beers), but we felt it was worthwhile. What I didn't expect was the 9% (?) service charge that they called "surcharge" on the bill. Actually I would have left more as a service charge if they hadn't added it themselves, as the service was friendly and efficient. But I just don't like having an obligatory charge. Too bad, but still worth 4 stars.
