China Kitchen in Oxford

I have had hot and sour soup many times and from many sources, however the example recieved this evening was inedible due to the fact that it felt like a whole tub of hot chillies were dumped in it. It was so overpowering that it spoiled the rest of the order. I would suggest that the creator of this disaster, be made to eat a pot full.

Prawns arrived cold sauces were wrong poorly paid person on the phone hung up, kept noodles and rice now been up with a very sick child

The selection of vegetarian dishes is fab. The veggie prawns were lush. Thank you!

Fantastic vegan Chinese food! Vegan “chicken” satay - so good. Years ago it was Pink Giraffe that had yummy food beyond just standard bean curd affairs. Now at least there is one more great Chinese place for vegan takeaways.

Couldn't purchase food as they didn't take cards. I was a walk-in customer with no phone, so I couldn't do a web order. This is 2023, not 1973. Get a card machine or is this some sort of tax dodge.

Went to spend over £46 on a meal through just eat and the called 10 minutes after my order to charge me and extra 50p to add peas to my rice after spending £4.50 on delivery and service charge absolutely disgusting won’t be ordering here

We ordered from here for my mums birthday, we haven’t had Chinese in ages so we thought it would be a nice treat. It was awful, I do not recommend at all, chips were cold and dry, clearly from lunch, chicken balls weren’t even chicken balls there just were small pieces of chicken. Her food was extremely spicy even though it said it was mild on menu, and it was late getting to us! Do not go her it’s just a waste of money! Extremely expensive for what we got that was awful!

I have been using this Chinese for the last 5-6 years and can honestly say never again. Meal was received in a pizza box tapped up which was leaking grease all over the floor. All the food inside just lingered in oil and grease. Had a go at eating it but was inedible. Phoned and reported the issue and response was 'what do you expect me to do about it'... The only way they would give a refund or anything would be to collect it and then refund but nothing must have been touched. Bit difficult as most the grease is on the wooded floor and I tried a few bites. This is the first ever review I have done, as I normally just leave it but the shocking response deserves this. Customer loyalty obviously doesn't matter, shocking place.

Gave them a written list of our order and they still got it wrong. I ordered Beef with vegetables and Stir fry vegetables, both so bland that I put them both in the bin, they also forgot my other families chips. Total waste of time and money, we will not be going back so they have lost £60 -£70 per weekend from us. Chef must of forgot all flavourings or how to cook. I will be going else where from now on.

They are really weird about vegans and started saying their good isn't vegan because its "cooked with meat" and when I said but half of your dishes say "vegetarian" they couldn't really explain what they meant. They just ended up saying we are not vegan. Odd. Oriental Express round the corner are soooo helpful and sweet, much better

This used to be my favourite takeaway but not any more. On my last home delivery order which I paid by card, they added an item, took the receipt off the bag and wanted to argue with me about it by saying that the card payment had already gone through. I phoned back first to ask for the missing receipt which they then sent via the driver. After spotting the added item I phoned back a second time, at which point they reluctantly admitted what happened and sent the driver back yet again with the cash. This is not the standard of service I expected from this takeaway. This would never have happened with the previous owners. I am both disappointed and disgusted. NEVER AGAIN

Really good food here and at a decent price too. The lady who was front of house/took the order was very friendly and helpful and made great recommendations. Great stuff indeed.

This is the closest take away to me and I used to often get the very tasty chicken with cashew in yellow bean sauce and I'd ask for no onions. I hadn't been for a while but last week I ordered this again and it was very different. Chicken was a bit slimy in texture, did not have the usual flavour and the cashews were soggy. It was also full of onions- my request was ignored. I'd be wary of going back after this experience.

Under new management. I was shocked at the jump in prices and smaller portion sizes for example £7.00 for three ribs. All the dishes were extremely and unnecessarily salty.

Would give 0 if option!! Appalled at service. Ordered soya chicken satay as vegetarian. Order finally arrives and I bite into what I think is soya chicken only to find out it is real chicken. Duly call the restaurant who clearly couldn't care less offer credit for the cost or wait 30 mins until their driver can bring vegetarian one??? Advise clearly not waiting 30 mins as family meal dished and will be cold so after much duress they agree to refund the £6 cost for collection of the chicken! Disgusting now have no meal and sick at thought of biting into meat to which the restaurant clearly have no clue on and couldn't care less. Should have known better after last two failed attempts at veggie duck pancakes when half the food arrived but thought new menu (lots of vegetarian) give them another chance. I won't making that mistake again. Shouldn't offer vegetarian food if you can't provide it. Begars belief! Won't be ordering from them again!!

We have used China Kitchenfor year but unfortunately it has gone downhill since it was taken over by new management! My son gave them the benefit of the doubt with another meal from them last night but it was still not good. We have decided to try elsewhere.

The customer service was great! The food was delious and hot! And the delivery came earlier than expected with a very communicative and careful deliverer. Very nice and higly recommended!!

Hated chicken balls, nothing but thick greasy tasteless batter and tiny pieces of chicken...China Kitchen has completely made me rethink since new management. Absolutely delicious, thin crispy batter and generous amount of chicken. Crispy beef is to die for...in fact we have delighted in everything we have eaten so far. A 5* rating from all of us.

She did not even apologise and gave terrible service. Delivery time was extremely inaccurate. Definitely will not be ordering from them again.

We have used China Kitchen for several years, but I’m afraid to say we will not use them again. This is the second time they have got our order wrong. The food that was delivered was bland and tasteless. Customer service was bad as well. You can definitely tell it’s not the same people here.

Definitely gone down hill ordered takeaway 2 weeks ago got my food home to Abingdon to find chicken balls raw inside made a complaint and was told I could have money off my next order phoneed to day and spoke to the same lady i made the complaint too and was told i cant have money off because it’s under new management what a joke avoid at all cost unless you dont mind food poisoning. Asain mama in headington is the best in Oxford a little more expensive but much better food and service compared to these clowns

I have eaten from China kitchen for many years but never again. Food was cold & tasteless. Charged £5.40 for king prawn fried rice that was in such a small container absolute ripoff, cold soggy chips & the rest of the food was tasteless & disgusting. The worse Chinese I have ever eaten. If I could give 0 stars I would.

We use this take away once a week. Normal the food very good My wife order her food and it arrived. On looking inside we noticed that the vegetables where covered in a black dots Connolly know has pepper spot which means it's out of date. Not fresh.

My house is maximum 10 minute drive, and nowhere that the driver could have got stuck in traffic! Called back at 7:10pm driver is on the way, the girl on the phone couldn't care less about the amount of time it has taken, but did say the driver wasn't stuck in traffic he had something to do and didn't tell anyone at the restaurant - so she lied to me on the first call and clearly forgot what she said. The driver arrived 10 minutes later, stood there expecting a tip! The food was cold, tasted absolutely awful, with their poor customer service, delivery drivers who can't be bothered to deliver food because "he had things to do" and rubbish food I wouldn't bother ordering from here.

Bad delivery service and very rude on the phone.

The food is very tasty, the best takeaway around. We had satay chicken, duck, beef noddles, chicken balls and sweet and sour hong kong style and everything was very tasty. We will be regulars and will be visiting again in a few weeks.

The only place I go for takeaway! Love the food here. My only criticism is that they're so popular, I always have to collect because delivery is always over an hour.

Sólo trajo algunos de cerdo rebozado en pelotas. Se les veía muy seco y no el derecho de color en el interior. Me fui y me dieron una porción fresca pero son el mismo, además de algunos no estaban cocidos por dentro. Yo hubiera preferido un reembolso para ser honesto! No va allí de nuevo!

This place has gone down hill big time. I worked there for about 5 yrs when luke had it and the food was amazing then. Now the food is a joke. Every corner has been cut to bring you ultra low cost mush at a very high price.

This is a very fresh crispy good value Chinese food comes hot when ordering from them. Nothing to much trouble will acomadate you when ever they can buy changing some of the dishes to suit your teast.

La comida en cocina China es genial, todo muy bien y recién cocinado. Sin embargo, lo que hace de este lugar único en muchos restaurantes de comida para llevar que les importa de verdad las condiciones dietéticas del individuo, como un padre y un hijo que tiene la enfermedad celíaca de la atención a los detalles es muy notable, que significa que podemos pedir en confianza.

The food here is reliably good. Portion sizes are about average. Delivery can be slow at busy times as we live a bit far out of town so have learned to go and pick it up.

A couple of nights ago, some family unexpectedly descended on us, so we decided to grab a takeaway rather than cook. China Kitchen were excellent. We telephoned through our order, and we're told we could collect in 10-15 minutes. 15 minutes later I walked into the shop and was greeted by a really friendly lady who took my name (and money) and gave me the bags of food. She told me that they'd also thrown in some prawn crackers free of charge.When I got home, the food was lovely and hot (an advantage of living less than a mile away). Everything was excellent, and I can highly recommend their Singapore Chow Mein if you like slightly spicy foods, and their Black Bean Sauce had tiny red chilli rings hidden among it, so a nice kick there too. I read somewhere, but can't find the reference now, that they do NOT use MSG in their foods, so another bonus (although that will need to be confirmed)...I know this takeaway can get very busy - so allow plenty of time if you want a delivery. They are well worth the wait.Like I said in the title - I'll be back - and very soon too!

Placed an order for delivery, we were told our order would be with us in 45 mins. Over an hour later we called back asking were our food was. To be told that they could not find us and tried to call us when they were near, and that they would not be coming back out as the delivery driver had gone home. We did not receive any call from them, and they did not seem to care. Avoid this place!!
