Food poisoning! Ordered food Sun evening as ferry was cancelled. Family up all night being sick and had to get on the ferry Mon morning. 3rd day now of being ill. Has totally ruined our easter holidays. I recommend eating elsewhere.

Had three main courses and one large fried rice between us- really tasty ,fresh and very good value for money ( had the leftovers for lunch next day!). A smiling welcome and very fast service- thank you!

Had the misfortune of getting a Chicken Fried Rice here. Chicken looked like badly cooked chips, fried rice was repulsive. Absolutely terrible experience. Unedible and binned.

Food was pretty good, no complaints. I did see others saying the portions were big but I don’t think I can agree I’m glad we bought extra. Also we didn’t get prawn crackers so asked how much a bag would cost and was told £2.80. Other than that overall was a good takeaway

As a family of four, we each enjoyed our takeaway. We ordered over the phone and our order was ready fifteen minutes later, as promised. Good, fresh food.

Ordered a Special Chow Mien and it came bathing in gravy. Gravy ???!!! Was there couple of days ago for a Special Fried Rice and the quality was exactly the same. Nothing is special , far from it . Don’t waste your time and money.

We wanted a night in and decided to order Chinese from the local. I’ve uploaded the menu because we couldn’t find one online anywhere (and everyone likes to browse the menu before hand 😅). Staff were lovely. Cash only takeaway - cash machines at the banks or big Co-op. Different to our usual, but it was decent and worth using if you fancy a night in the cottage during your trip.

Collected a takeaway for a group of us staying in a lodge at Auchrannie for a Birthday Weekend. Food was delicious and portions were plenty for everyone.

Given the lack of choice on Arran, the Shanghai is decent enough. Portions are massive, so order half what you think you need. Is a bit salty, but hey, so are most Chinese takeaways. Recommend the good value dinner for one at £11.50. Pretty busy 6.30 to 7.30

So much better than our previous takeaway. 6 different dishes and all were very tasty and were great portions. Friendly staff. Definitely get a takeaway from here again and recommend.

Ignore most recent reviews this is a perfectly acceptable Chinese take away. We had char sui chow mein and roast duck with mushroom. 10 mins, reasonably priced and very tasty.

First ever visit. Spent £38.Wouldn't buy again. Generous portions but very poor quality. Starter platter was dry, very crispy mostly inedible. Chicken ball batter thick and floury. Lemon chicken just about ok. Egg fried rice dark brown Green thai curry meat was tough Special fried rice prawns palid Threw 80% in bin. Unappetising. Prawn crackers ok. I rarely moan and am not particularly fussy but this was inedible. Don’t waste yr money like I did

Took chicken curry and chicken balls back because it was like rubber , I didn’t want my money back and I just told her I can’t eat it , and she told me to take it to the bin and dump it myself outside away from the premises and was very rude to me and said I was disgusting only because I said the food was disgusting , was shouting at me when I was walking out .never been so shocked in all my life ,

My girlfriend and I were trapped in Sannox and unable to get food anywhere (turned away at the inn). We called Shanghai and they said unfortunately we were too far away. Two minutes later, someone else called back to say that her dad (the owner) would drive the food to us personally. Maybe they heard the desperation in our voices, or maybe they are just really nice. My girlfriend has been pestering me for two years to finally write this review and I'm glad I did because we talk about it often. Heroic. Thank to the staff if you if you ever read this. tried every other place in Brodick for food. The pizza place had run out of dough (for the second consecutive night), half the shops weren't open on a Monday or Tuesday and there were no tables available in hotels. Shanghai was the only real option so were a bit skeptical. Turned out to be fantastic: was made fast, tasted great, and compared to anywhere else we could have eaten on the island was pretty cheap. Salt and chili chips were amazing. Would recommend. Also changed hands recently so ignore pre 2021 reviews about quality. :)

The Shanghai has reopened. The take away we ordered yesterday was excellent. Had to wait an hour because the place was packed but the wait was well worth while. Both mains were of a high standard. The crackers and rice were very good as well....

Rancid food, curry sauce was like jelly( and tasteless) spicy salted chicken was drier than a desert, hard as a bone. Rice was hard, very over priced, just spend the extra money and go out for a meal.

Watery and tasteless, poorly reheated and bland. Need I say more? Bought different meals for all the family and was very disappointed. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

We had the Chicken Curry, Vegetable Curry and Chicken Chow Main. Sorry to say these were the worst Chinese dishes I've tried. No taste to curry and noodles burnt. Don't waste your money!!

I haven't left a negative review on Trip Advisor before but, the experience we had last night was so poor, I have to. We ordered our food after finding nowhere open and willing to accommodate our dog. We ordered duck in plum sauce, spicy crispy beef and two portions of rice. Delivery was £6.50. We ordered from Whiting Bay so expected a higher charge, however still think this was steep. Delivery time wasn't bad but what arrived was terrible. Everything was beige. The duck was fatty and slimy and the 'plum sauce' was almost transparent. The beef was dry and tasteless. I really struggle to understand how everything was the same colour? I tried to save it by adding some sweet chilli sauce we found in the cottage but not even that added enough flavour.I genuinely dont understand why people have hailed this as a good Chinese takeaway. We often order from our favourite place back home which is always full of flavour and good quality products. £27.00 later I felt ripped off and was sick. Please take this feedback and work on improving your dishes. Simply because you have the monopoly doesn't mean you should strive to offer such poor food.

Take away for a family of 6 adults

I’m not one for slating takeaways but I can’t believe some of the reviews on this place. Words like ‘best Chinese ever’ and ‘excellent’ are being bandied about and I can only assume that those reviewers have either had their taste buds removed or consider Findus Crispy Pancakes to be Michelin Star level cuisine.

Staying in a lodge nearby, decided on Chinese for dinner. Had looked up menu online, so knew what we were ordering before going in. A couple of others before us, the smell inside the takeaway was amazing, couldn’t wait to tuck in to ours! Didn’t wait long for our order to be ready. Rice was lovely, not sticky at all. Portion of chicken Maryland was lovely and crispy. Chicken curry was tasty, although asked for it chopped and it came sliced, would have preferred chunks, so should have ordered whole. Sweet and sour chicken balls, didn’t eat this myself but others said sauce was very runny, and chicken over cooked, but if staying locally again would definitely stop by again for dinner.

Last night we had the best ever Cantonese style sweet and sour chicken with excellent fried rice. Can not recommend th i s dish highly enough. Also, one portion is so generous it will feed two and at around £8.00 is excellent value. Lovely service too if you take the time and effort to make an effort to get to know and understand the friendly and competent staff who have a great sense of humour.

On holiday and this takeaway was near the house we were staying in. The family decided what they wanted from the menu in the house. Wandered down and ordered, not long to wait and we see back in the house dishing up. Everyone said they thought all their meals were lovely, rice wasn't greasy, special mention for salt and chilli prawns and salt and chilli squid which are regular favorites, they were really good! Only thing I'd say is the portions seemed a little smaller than at home? Or maybe we were just starving? Anyway, would recommend and definitely visit again if holidaying in Brodick

It’s fantastic, great gluten free options, large menu all for a fantastic price. The service is great with second to none customer service! 10/10 would recommend.

Me and my partner went in and ordered our meals the food was still hot once we got home, it was all fresh and full of flavours really pleased we tried this take away.

We ordered dinner for four people and none of the dishes were great, we all ended up leaving some (almost unheard of!). The sweet and sour sauce was weak and vinegary, the spring rolls greasy and the sides limp and overpriced. I’m afraid the service matched the food, i left feeling we had inconvenienced the lady who served us. There are so many places to eat on Arran, I won’t be rushing back here.

Had a lovely meal from here. Okay, it may not be restaurant quality but it’s as good as ours at home and they serve it up quickly. Will use again!

We were in the mood for a Chinese takeaway during our stay in Arran and we decided to order from this restaurant.

We had a really delicious takeaway yesterday evening, Saturday. A Cantonese sweet and sour chicken (Hong Kong style) not keen on big fried ball variation! And a beef and black bean sauce, both with egg fried rice.....one banana fritter as well for the skinny man and all for just under £20......Delicious and good value, well done to the chef on duty on Saturday night.

Called ahead to pre order food for our arrival off the ferry which was ready on our arrival however this was the only real positive point. We orders 8 meals and all bar one was pretty tasteless and cold. Wish we had saw the previous reviews. Over priced and poor in quality.

Takeaway from here tonight, really bad, one of the worst ever, the beef was the worst I've ever had, really really tough and it looked even worse!! £6.40 for one meal and they wanted another £2.40 for chips? Avoid at all costs

Had a crispy pancake roll. Should have been called vegetable roll!!. Packed with cabbage and carrots.....but found ONE wee prawn & a very very small piece of what I think was chicken. Definitely not worth the money, but the seagulls enjoyed what I threw in the bin.

We have eaten here 5 times in the last 2 years, every time we have gone back in the HOPE that they might have a new chef, also it is the only one on the isle of Arran.

Placed order by phone and it was ready to collect in 15 minutes. Note takeaway only accepts cash (there are many signs to remind you!), but there is a cashpoint opposite so no biggy). Food of a good standard and note at all greasy. I wasn't keen on my crispy noodles, but think that was just a matter of personal taste.

Had various dishes including curry, crispy beef, chow mein, sweet and sour chicken balls, beef and black bean sauce and fried rice. Only disappointing dish was the curry which was watery and more onion than prawns. On the whole our family of 5 enjoyed it.

Tuvimos una comida para llevar desde aquí mientras se aloje en autoservicio cercano. Tuve el pollo y sopa de champiñones seguida de pato con nueces de anacardo y arroz frito. Todos muy aguados y sosa, hasta el punto de ser insípido y no disfrutamos. El arroz estaba un poco pasada. Yo no pude ni comer mucho más que unos pocos mothfuls, lo cual es raro para mí. Bastante tibio.

Comí en esta para llevar hace unos años y la comida era encantador. Mi experiencia reciente, sin embargo, no era buena. Aunque el personal es amable y el servicio es rápido, la comida no se compara a otros llevar china que he probado. El chow mien estaba muy pasada y el pollo y estaba enganchado y no sabor muy agradable. El curry y salsas satay eran sosas y las brochetas satay eran muy seco. Las patatas fritas eran poco hecha y no podía comer. Como el único para llevar chino en la isla, no hay competencia y eso se refleja en la calidad de la comida. Los precios eran un poco más de lo que yo estoy acostumbrado a la de comida para llevar, pero es de esperar creo que, estando en una isla. En general me decepcionó en la comida y no comer aquí de nuevo.

I am somewhat of an expert when it comes to Chinese takeaways :) So When I say that this is unlike ANY Chinese take away I've had....I mean it, and not in a good way :-oTo be fair to the place, it's a really nice wee shop and appears spotlessly clean but that's where it ends I'm afraid. We were in self catering accommodation and to take a break from eating out, we decided to try this take away. I phoned in with a small order for collection of beef curry (extra hot) with boiled rice, a beef chow mein, portion of curry sauce and fish & chips for a chap who didn't like Chinese food. I was told it would be ready for collection is 10 (yes 10!) minutes...really? Anyway, I left it 20 and walked along to get it. It wasn't ready and had to wait an additional 15 minutes. I didn't mind though...I was starving and it was a cold day :) plus the fact that I love a good curry and was really looking forward to it. It was quite an expensive place too compared to other Chinese take away's I've been to. Also I've never seen a beef curry be more expensive that a breast of chicken curry...it's usually the other way round. The food was absolutely awful. My beef curry 'sauce' was like a gravy you'd have with a roast dinner...it was extremely thin & bland! No spicy curry flavour AT ALL. The 'beef' was seriously lacking and the onions in the curry made up about 90% of the dish......don't get me wrong, I love onions, but I didn't order an onion curry. The boiled rice was very congealed and I couldn't separate it with a fork, it was just a big lump of stodge. The chow mein was like Bachelors Super-Noodles (again with very little beef) and the sauce was very watery with no flavour and yes, also packed with my onion friends. The chips were dry, hard and inedible even though the shop had only been opened for 45 minutes...I can only assume they were reheats from the previous night, there's no other explanation. The fish was fine though and the batter was actually quite nice. Who'd have thought the only decent part of our Chinese take away would have been the traditional fish & chips, the irony isn't lost on me :) The point of going to a Chinese take away if for the Chinese food, the fact that the fish was alright is neither here not there. We would have went to Hooked and Cooked for fish and chips but it is just as bad. The Brodick Brasserie is the best place on the Island for dressed Haddock....it's amazing. Obviously we won't be back....oh well never mind :)

We fancied a chinese take away to eat in our apartment and omg it's disgusting! "crispy noodles" basically uncooked dry noodles no idea who would eat that! My son loves noodles but he would have choked on them, chicken fried rice was strangest chicken it was Brown and wet nothing like other places. Over priced and rubbish wouldn't go back. Arran needs more competition for takeaways

We ordered a takeaway on a Saturday night for the full family and were truly disappointed.Each person's meal was bland and tasteless obviously no seasoning or flavour was added.Will not use again.

We ordered Special Curry and combination Szechuan with fried rice and thought I had cracked it as the carry out was 'heavin' and thought I wouldn't let the 'happy harry' who served me, who I think may have been called Derek, spoil it as he was charmless.The cost was a bit on the steep side but I thought what the hell the place is busy, usually a good sign, so it will be terrific...........NOT.I have to say both meals were absolutely devoid of taste, the curry sauce was thin and not like a Chinese curry sauce, it was like a beef casserole sauce with a smattering of curry powder added. As for the Szechuan, I don't know how they did it, but a feat in itself, it was worse, again a thin sauce with no taste whatsoever.In the interest of fairness I have to say the quality if the meat wasn't too bad and the portions decent, but that's no good if its tasteless.Fortunately it was my first visit and even if I hadn't been on holiday, it would definitely be my last.

Sunday evening al fresco dining with a wonderful vista just a shame the food didn't match the backdrop. I ordered a special curry and a proton of fried rice my friend had a crispy noodle dish with chicken. Again, like the chippy in Brodick the lack of competition takes another victim of taking custom for granted !!!The various meats in my meal where fresh enough and decent cuts which is why I've scored a poor as opposed to a terrible. The sauce was nondescript, bland and tasteless. My friend described his meal as crispy noodles and gloopy chicken with even the gulls turning their nose up. Ah well, won't be back.

This is the only option for Asian food in Brodick. It's just a takeaway place but the meals we ordered were delicious and not over-spiced and the people were friendly.

This used to be a great wee takeaway but recently it's not anywhere near as good as it used to be. Many requests when ordering get lost in translation, down to the language barrier. Wouldn't ask for anything 'extra spicy' as they don't seem to have fresh chillies here and instead use chilli oil which doesn't blend well with some dishes. Further to this, the food has been very bland recently! My major gripe is the cost of delivery- £4.50 is absurd! I could understand if we lived on the other side of the island but we don't! Don't expect to order from here again, mainly due to the lack of communication whilst ordering and the excessive delivery charge.

Ordered here for a relaxed evening in at our cottage. Crispy noodles are certainly crispy, the ones we received were practically raw. Very strange. Main dishes were alright but nothing spectacular. Disappointing.

Ordered a number of starters and 5 main dishes. Starters were ok but mains were terrible. Really disappointing meal which was the worst we had on our weeks stay on the island.

Had a couple of meals from here, got the crispy noodles and sweet & sour chicken the chicken was good but the noodles were just like they weren't cooked so ate the chicken and the noodles go chucked in the bin. The other meal that I got was pretty decent though

It might have something to do with me having just climbed Goat Fell but this was the best tasting Chinese take-away I've ever had.

I went to get a menu the day before we wanted to eat. I asked the owner if it was alright to take a menu he neither saw nor heard me as he had earphones on. I walked out again without him noticing me. The starter and mains were good but the rice was only about 1/3 of what I get in my local, unnessasary meanness as rice must be the cheapest thing on the menu.

After a long day walking around we wanted a hot, filling, inexpensive meal and opted for the Shanhai Chinese Takeaway oposite the large Co-Op in Brodick.Much to my friends' ammusement I bought a mildly spicy dish and had to buy some water (note to parents No. 122 is not suitable for children.The food was really tastey and for a seaside town with tourist prices in most places, this was great for £6.00

We had a takeaway from here which was fresh, delicious and ready quickly. One of the nicest takeaways I have had. Would highly recommend!

We ordered a takeaway and wanted free delivery as advertised online . Unfortunately they didn't have any transport that evening so we had to pick up ( my issue is that we have a small child and wanted to have a relaxed meal at home). The duck in orange wasn't really up to scratch but the other foods were really tasty . Don't over order as the portions are ample

We called in here a few nights ago as we had had a long day out and time was getting on and we were hungry.We are a party of four so bought 4 meals to share. Our holiday home was not far away so the food did not need a quick blast in the microwave.The food was edible but was rather bland. Needless to say, we will not be using this place again during our stay!For 4 meals it cost £32 - so quite cheap compared to other restaurants on the island.

This is an excellent takeaway restaurant! It provides a very comprehensive menu! A telephone order is ready and available in ten minutes! Both starters and mains are well cooked and to be recommended!

Starters were ok but mains were awful.Char Sui Chop Suey was just bean sprouts, carrot, tiny bits of pork and sweet & sour sauce. Salted Squid was dire. Special fried rice was average. I won't be going back.

Ribs - spicy and BBQ both good. Spicy squid tasteless, special fried rice good. Thought it was expensive for what we got and really disappointed with the squid. Won't go back.

Staying with friends in nearby cottage and for a change instead of eating out every night opted for takeaway from here. Mixed selection for us all, cooked while waiting, and not expensive. If you are looking for a change while on holiday give this one a try.

hong kong style sweet/sour chicken personal favourite lots of vegetables /pineapple and sauce is great with fried onion rings dipped in it portions are good as sometimes I keep and freeze as it can be very repetitive buying the same expensive food from the local and only shop the coop and the ferry fry is not much better partner has had chicken curry or hong kong style prawns with egg fried rice and enjoys them as you can gather we are regular customers the family are very friendly .

Have had many carry out meals from this takeaway and have never been disappointed no matter what the choice!

We were going to have fish and chips on our first night on Arran but after enquiring where it was we were told how good the Chinese takeaway was. Everything was good and same as our local honest apart from char Sui curry which for my personal taste could have had a thicker sauce and meat was a little fatty other than that all was good and I would recommend. Kids had another while me and hubby had a meal out

During our family holiday to Arran we opted for take away meal from here. Good points - it looks clean, good service, free prawn crackers, food was OK. I would describe this place a bogg standard. There are very few amazing Chinese takeaways in the west of Scotland - I compare Chinese restaurants to the place I visited in Los Alcatharez, Spain. The Shanghai fits in with the norm - it's OK, reasonably priced and provides a reasonable service on the island.

We ordered the set meal for 4 people at £41.It included 5 mains, 4 fried rice, spare ribs.The food was tasty, but I would say the sauces were a little thin, but that may be down to personal choice.

The service was friendly and FAST! We had a good selection of food and the quality was quite good. We would definitely return.

This is about the most average Chinese food i have ever eaten. It has a great location, unfortunately only one table to sit at so your option is really only takeaway. There are better places to eat in Brodick. Delivery is available for a price.

Was wary trying this as it didn't have a good write up.Had soup, spring rolls and chow mien. Spring rolls came with a sweet n sour sauce which was lovely. Both of us had the chow mien and they were large portions. In fact, I couldn't finish mine. Picked up a free map of the island when we were in.

We decided to try the Shanghai Chinese Takeaway on our first night in Arran as we arrived around tea-time. After placing our order we waited only a short while before it was ready to take home and enjoy - and that we did! We had a mixture of items for the family to try (chinese chicken curry, beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken with crispy noodles, king prawn with ginger and spring onion, beef chow mein plus rice). Everything was really tasty and we would happily recommend them to other travellers to Arran.

We had to be awkward and order a delivery to Corrie from their premises in Brodick, but when we figured out the postcode of our holiday cottage they were more than helpful in meeting up with us. Our food was lovely. The pancake rolls that I had to start were enormous and very tasty. Two of us had curries for our main course, with large portions and generously filled with meat. There was also a good selection of vegetarian dishes and an extensive menu. Happy to recommend.

good chinese food and bonus that they deliver!! perfect for those nights you can't be bothered cooking. Good thing is once they have your number it is saved in their system so they know exactly where to go if you call up again for a delivery. Most delivery drivers have good local knowledge and food arrives perfect and hot! recommended! :)
