Amazing food, each course was beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were friendly and helpful; efficient and attentive without being intrusive. Relaxed atmosphere. A wee bit out of the city centre but well worth the walk (or taxi fare). Good variety of choices for each course. All the dishes were exceptional but the passion fruit cheesecake was sublime. Prices were very reasonable for the quality with freshly prepared and cooked ingredients.

Delighted to be back here - visiting Glasgow with my best friend, to whom I'd given an IOU for dinner here as part of her relatively recent 60th birthday present, as I've been banging on to her for years about how much I love this restaurant - she loved it & is definitely a fan!. Food was outstanding, especially my crispy gnocchi & wild mushroom starter - I asked for a spoon to finish every last bit of the delicious sauce, as licking the plate was not an option! Staff as polite, friendly & charming as ever, & the complimentary bottle of wine courtesy of manager Rory because of a mix-up when I was in Glasgow earlier this year was a lovely touch, so thank you for that. I hope the charming gentleman from Brisbane who we met at our hotel & to whom I recommended this restaurant managed to dine here. As I've said before, I can not recommend this place highly enough & look forward to my next visit when I am in Glasgow again.

I reviewed this restaurant just over 4 years ago with the title “Great food, value, service...everything”. Many restaurants have ups and downs as waiting staff/chefs/management change but, after various visits since my last review, I’d like to confirm that every single time has been an absolute pleasure. If you’d like some fresh, flavoursome food, reasonably priced and served in a friendly and efficient manner don’t hesitate to visit. My only disappointment was being too full to order a dessert, they all sounded delicious!

In Glasgow for the weekend and came across this bistro. Everything about it is fabulous, the food and service is 5 star and I can not recommend enough. It’s great value for money and definitely al a cart. Couldn’t have asked for a better night without the hussell and bussel of Glasgow City Centre on a Saturday night. Cannot believe the quality of the food and wine for the price and once again can not recommend enough. Go if you are in Glasgow.

A pleasant Saturday night meal in this odd restaurant was very enjoyable if a little weird. The building was set back from the road and in the Autumn darkness looked rather forboding especially as there were few lights, and the fact that the Belles was downstairs under the Buttery was not apparent. But once in, the restaurant was interesting. The decor was a mixture of quaint old fashioned kitchen tables, decorations and ornaments. The service was good with the youngsters doing well, and the place felt comfortable. The food was however modern, and very well done. Preparation was simple, no fancy flounces, and we enjoyed our starters and mains very much, being tasty and filling without being too much. Only one minor complaint, the meringue salted peanut caramel was more of a crunchy concoction and needed to be less hard to compliment the rather tasy malted chocolate and home made (it seemed ) banana icecream. A minor whinge then, when the rest of the meal was very good indeed, and we had a splendid time there. We are not surprised it attracts locals regularly, as visitors to the city we felt we had made a very good choice

My partner and I visited this bistro for dinner on Thursday 29th of April. Staff were friendly and attentive from the off set as we hadn’t booked but were happy to accommodate even though they were busy. The decor is lovely, the Shandon has a very rustic and cosy feel to it with modern indie rock music playing throughout the night. The menu was great, loads of options for meat eaters and veggies alike, extensive offer of alcohol and wines available to enjoy with staff that are knowledgeable about the products they sell. There’s absolutely nothing I could fault about this place. I would recommend it to everyone.

I’d been wanting to go here for years so was excited to finally get there. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. The staff were lovely and perfectly attentive. However, the menu was a bit predictable and certainly not friendly to a table where a significant number were pescatarian as most of the fish dishes also included meat. My starter was the rarebit which was the most disappointing thing and pretty much inedible. The toasted bread was so small it was rock hard and was essentially two very small and dry bits of cheese on toast. For main I had salmon with the Parma ham removed with potatoes and carrots. All tasty and well cooked but really quite boring and something I could cook at home. The pudding was dark chocolate pot. It was ok but wasn’t as described as it was really a chocolate mousse with cream rather than a dark small chocolate pot. Overall just not what I was expecting and felt the menu was very limited.

I recently had dinner out with a couple of friends at this lovely wee spot in Glasgow. Having never been before and as a vegetarian I was a little apprehensive that the veggie options would be average at best and I would get the dreaded food envy as I watched my pals tuck into some carefully crafted dinner – I couldn’t have been more wrong! Instead I was completely spoiled for choice with a great selection of vegetarian dishes on the main menu and the option of choosing from an alternative vegetarian and vegan specific menu. I ended up opting for the Veg pot pie with cheesy hazelnut crust, which I highly recommend - the crust is delicious!

Shandon Belles has a comfortable and cosy atmosphere, with a traditional feel. The set menu was sufficient - I liked the concept that the chef would rather limit the menu and take the time to prepare it well, instead of spreading themselves too thinly and presenting a variety of mediocre selections.I enjoyed a well prepared and hearty meal in a very comfortable atmosphere.

my bf and I found ourselves having a baby-free Tuesday, so decided to go out for dinner. had a quick look on 5pm and saw a deal for Shandon Belles for £8 for 2 courses. I had been before (and liked it - see previous review) so decided we couldn't really go wrong. Tbh, we weren't expecting that much, because, £8 for 2 courses...seems crazy. BUT I couldn't actually believe how lovely our dining experience was from start to finish. Offered tap water as soon as we arrived, lovely, then ordered, was then served bread and butter (tbh - bread actually wasn't the nicest, didn’t taste the freshest, but I cannot complain about this)....for starters I ordered mozzarella with a chilli sauce and my bf ordered pate. Both portions were really big, the mozzarella was smoked, and omg - delicious - 10/10, the chilli sauce it came with was quite mild and complimented it beautifully. My bf ordered the chicken liver pate. It was served as two quite 70's looking piped portions, but again, delicious, and a very generous serving. Pate came with a slice of toast and both had a nice side salad with pesto. Mains - I had steak pie and chips. Steak pie came in a ramekin, nice pieces of well-cooked steak with a thick gravy and shallots, and chips. Steak pie was lovely - not fine dining, obviously, but good tasty hearty food. My bf had the chicken schnitzel. He did enjoy this, it came with spaghetti and a tomato sauce. It wasn't spicy like an arrabbiata, just a tomato sauce. He felt the pasta was a bit watery which meant the chicken became a bit soggy, and also felt the chicken was a bit thick, he prefers his schnitzel thinner. HOWEVER this isn't a complaint either. Service – FANTASTIC. My wine, and our water was topped up regularly, and our server was lovely and professional. I had a half bottle of wine and my bf had 2 bottles of Innis & Gunn, bill all in was £32.00. The wine was £6 and the beer was £5 a bottle. This is absolutely fantastic value for such a great wee restaurant. They do a high tea as well and i cannot wait to bring my family to this as i know they'll love it.

First time trying out Shandon Belle and had an enjoyable time. A good but small-ish menu, although complimented by a specials board. I was here with my wife and friends and we almost all ordered from the specials board in the end. Drinks and wine list also a touch on the small side, but we ended up just ordering various drinks and wine by the glass rather than buy bottles of wine as we usually do. All starters and mains went down well although personally felt I could have done with a bit more of it, and I am not a particularly big eater. Everything was priced appropriately giving decent value and service was efficient and friendly. Certainly another to add to the list that I will need to return to at some point.

Me and my pal had a great lunch here yesterday. I had an itison voucher, and, although I'd seen the great reviews I was still a bit nervous as I've had a few bad experiences using vouchers in seemingly 'good' restaurants. But I needn't had worried cos this place was great. We both ordered the sirloin steak, which was 6oz and came with garlic butter and fries. It was a VERY generous 6oz! Both cooked to perfection. I had the shandon belle sundae for dessert, which was actually more like a trifle but really delicious, and my friend had the sticky banana sponge which she loved. We also had bread and butter at the table, and were offered more with our mains which I thought was a very nice touch. With the voucher came a gin cocktail, and I have to say, it was honestly the best cocktail I've ever had. Shandon Belle, if you read this, please tell me what was in that!!Service was fantastic, I'll come back here soon.

No vegetables came with the meat loaf so we ordered some ...we just felt there was nothing special about it although tasted OK..I make a fabulous meat loaf myself with spices like cumin and coriander..this had no real extra zing or seasoning to make you go wow...but it was nice and moist.I had a taste of the smoked haddock pasta and it was actually very nice..if I had gone for this I may have given a higher mark on my review....not sure though since it felt like it just wasn't as good as other places with set menus. It was okay...just okay...would maybe go back if I was up that end of town again but I wouldn't make the effort to go there myself given we had to take a bus there.

We fell into this local gem as it was a short walk from the Marriott Hotel and we were tired from a long day of touring. It is downstairs from their parent restaurant Two Fat Ladies which is top rated but very expensive. Shandon Belles was more of a local hangout but offered a wonderful experience for a reasonable price. Restaurant was busy but that did not interfere with our top notch service (waitress was wonderful and so helpful). Ambiance made you feel like you were definitely in Scotland and we felt totally immersed in the culture. Food was delicious. We all has had the three course dinner for 16 pounds each. I had the Salmon which was awesome. Wine selection was very good and what they didn't have downstairs they would run upstairs to get for us. Highly recommend this place if you are residing on Argyle Street or nearby. Worth the walk and or drive.

I had a lovely meal - while the regular menu looked great, I was particularly intrigued by specials for both starter and mains. Excellent food, carefully cooked rare steak as requested. Service was charming and I couldn't believe how cheap it all was!

Been meaning to visit for a while, so finally made it along with the girls. The very reasonably priced menu and wine made it an attractive mid-week option. The food was ok, but nothing was overly impressive, and that was disappointing. My starter of feta and beetroot salad with orange yogurt was not well balanced. I had a goats cheese frittata for main, which really only tasted like egg and not much else. My friend's steaks clearly came with oven chips. The service was friendly. The desserts were ok, and the price was very reasonable.

Visited some friends in Glasgow and they took us here for a meal on a Sunday evening. Very good food, very reasonably priced, nice setting and atmosphere. Service could have been a little sharper but overall, a very enjoyable evening. Definitely recommended.

This is the second time this year I have made a point of turning a one night stay into two nights specifically so I can have dinner here. First time I've been here that hasn't been a Friday or Saturday, so it was quieter than the other times I've eaten here. Staff are wonderful, friendly without being intrusive, & seem genuinely delighted when they are complimented. Food excellent, & such good value for money. The chocolate cheesecake was delicious, & the Makar gin & tonic, which I was talked into by one of the staff, served with sliced strawberries & cracked black pepper was a revelation - I'm so glad I tried it. I look forward to eating here again next time I'm in Glasgow; I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Been here a number of times but our latest visit left us disappointed.Still has the cosy atmosphere & quaint decor which is embellished by the warm welcome from the pleasant, attentive staff. However, on a visit to the ladies' loo, there was a strong smell of dampness & areas of wall appeared to be affected by damp. The amazingly low prices of £12 for 2 courses, £15 for 3 courses have produced a rather limited choice on this meal deal menu. Sides, necessary for certain dishes, add to the cost at £2.50 each.

Been to this little cozy intimate restaurant on a few occasions. Celebrated our anniversary, my wife's birthday, took our friends from England there. On every occasion we have thoroughly enjoyed our visit. With exceptional value for money, a restaurant staff who have taken very good care of us each time, but above all delicious top quality food. Our favourite restaurant, looking forward to our next visit. Can hardly wait.

Went here for a birthday dinner with 12 people and the place had just the right atmosphere. Small and cozy, but also a fancy quirky touch. Staff were very nice and we had two great courses for £12 (or £15 for three) and a bottle of wine for another £12. Given that the food was very fresh and very good, these prices are outstanding and I would definitely recommend for a nice evening out or a date.

Very nice decor and ambiance; tables well separated; terrific young, friendly and efficient staff.Well cooked and well presented food .Restaurant has chosen to offer 3 course for about £18, so portions are modest, and choice limited.Unusally, drink prices are very reasonable too.Noboby in Glasgow can match them in the £60 or so category for 2. Outstanding.

Four of us went to the Shandon Belle's for a Sunday late lunch.Everything about this restaurant was ideal. We sat downstairs and even the decor is lovely - smart yet homely, makes for a comfortable dining experience. The staff were lovely, chatty and willing to help if we asked about particular dishes or drinks.I had the hummus which tasted fantastic, then had the macaroni cheese. Lovely huge portion. All my friends had different dishes - we all agreed this lunch was excellent and we'd definitely be back.

The continuing adventures of introducing my good lady to some of my favourite Glasgow eateries although this was one I hadn't revisited for quite a while. I was surprised and a bit disconcerted to see how quiet it was on our arrival at 7pm on Friday but it filled up quickly as we dined. From the outset, the service was excellent - warm and inviting although with just the 2 on they did seem a bit rushed off their feet as this place got busier. There was a minor incident of a flying bit of ice onto our table as a cocktail was being prepared at the bar but no harm done! The décor of the place is perfect. It is designed in a way so that it feels like a cosy living room setting with china and various odds n ends on the shelves and helped with its compact, but not cramped, space. After some delicious sweetened bread as an appetiser, we both opted for the haggis croquettes to start which went down an absolute treat.I've come to accept that my girlfriend has a continuing love affair with something else - mac n cheese and so, when discovering they served their own version of the culinary delight as a main course, I knew her 'other love' would take centre stage for a little while. I opted for one of the specials: loin of pork with crushed potatoes in a mustard sauce. 2 clean plates said it all.I didn't have room for a dessert but she opted for the white chocolate pistachio cheesecake. Any hope I had of getting a taste of it quickly disappeared as it was devoured with great delight. A couple of coffees rounded off a fabulous meal. For the ambience, the service and the high quality of the food I really am surprised at just how good value this place is, the bill coming in at under £40. Should really be much higher on Tripadvisor.

My meal here in the Shandon belles was FANTASTIC. I dined a couple of months ago with my brother before we went to a concert. The food was delicious, the service was great and the atmosphere was lovely although quiet for lunch it was a great ambiance. The waitresses were lovely and knew all the ins and outs about the food they were serving. Overall my dining experience here was amazing. Thanks to the waitresses Beth and Maxine.

We had arranged a meal here with a group from the gym. From the word go it was organised to suit us and an extremely competitive deal was agreed .All our requests were met in full and the meal was excellent! The staff couldn't have been nicer and everyone enjoyed the evening.I have been to this restaurant several times before and have always enjoyed the experience but I am very impressed with the way the group booking was dealt with. I will certainly be recommending this restaurant to family and friends.

A regular dinner out where we like to try new places, and, although we had both been to Shandon Belles before we hadn't been there together. So, we both knew roughly what to expect and had booked a table, very necessary as it remains as popular as ever, quite rightly so.We had the full 3 courses, which were all beautiful, I had the chef's special sirloin steak and my friend went for the salmon. All the food was faultless, and there was quite a buzz about the place. That just leaves the service. Well what can I say? There were only two waiting staff on, and they were kept very busy, but still managed to retain their sense of humour, and both were delightful, including Nicola :o) (sorry, didn't catch the other's name)So, big well done to all, and thank you.

We decided to go along here after reading some other reviews and we were all delighted that we did. The staff were very friendly and professional. They remembered who ordered what without having to ask when they brought our food (and drinks). The food??? Amazing!!!! Really tasty and good sized portions. Each member of our party was singing its praises for days afterwards.Great value for money. We will be a regular here.Try it for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed

This is one of my favourite restaurants and we often go for a meal here. However it has to be said that our last visit was not really that good. VERY limited menu with choices that were more akin to pub food. Sausage and mash and macaroni cheese. In fact, had we not ordered drinks before looking at the menu, we would probably have left. £12 is reasonable for two courses but when those two courses are a bowl of soup followed by a small bowl of macaroni cheese served with the tiniest slice of garlic bread I have ever seen its not really that good a deal. There are plenty of better offers around Glasgow, many of which offer a glass of wine included in the deal as well as a much more extensive and interesting menu. Won't be rushing back.

This is the little sister restaurant to Two Fat Ladies. My husband and I ate here on our first night in Glasgow. It is a very short walk from the Hilton Hotel. I initially tried to book Two Fat Ladies which is upstairs, however as it was fully booked I decided to give Shandon Belles a try. I'm so glad I did. It's a lovely little restaurant, beautifully decorated and very cosy. The food was brilliant and amazing value. Three courses for £15 with a bottle of wine costing £12 and cocktails at £4.50. The only slight criticism I had was the staff weren't the most friendly. This is definitely an area that could be improved but overall highly recommended!

Easily the best coffee in Glasgow. Actually, the best, most coffee-y coffee I've ever had. My partner is a coffee aficionado and we are always on a mission to get a great cup of coffee on our travels and at home, and this is a place we can heartily recommend.
