Perfect evening out. It was my cousins 50th birthday treat from me and we were meeting for a catch up. We were looked after so well all evening. Lovely lovely manager extremely hospitable. Lovely waitress. Food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Thank you for making our evening special x we will be back and will recommend you for sure x

Great little find, buffet style but food brought out fresh to order. All dishes we ordered were fresh and tasty. Garlic prawns, beef in black bean and the chow mein were especially worth a mention. Tables kept clean and staff super friendly. We will not hesitate to recommend and return.

I have been going to the Shan Shui restaurant for as long as it has been a Chinese Restaurant (it has been an Italian and a French restaurant in the past!). In truth I have not been for well over a year because the last experience I had wasn't that great and the reviews were not as consistently good as they had been over the years. However- I went with my husband last night on a 'one last try' basis and we had a really excellent experience. It is true to say that the tablecloths and napkins have been replaced by paper napkins and wipeable tables BUT you can now again opt in or out of the duck course (which you couldn't at the end of the last management period- it came out with starters which was very odd). The menu has been slimmed down but it still large enough in my opinion and the new management is clearly striving to keep their price point - which remains very reasonable. The food was great - hot, tasty and just what we wanted. The service was very good and the young team of staff really friendly and accommodating. So - if you fancy a cheeky Chinese meal in a venue in the town centre, with the 6 dish choice variety model, then this is perfect! I would say the vibe is more diner/eatery than posh restaurant but you can't eat napkins can you? In short - if what we had last night reflects the new norm of this restaurant - it will once again, return to my fav Friday night eatery of choice list.

Used to be the best Chinese in Leighton Buzzard in new hands and now very poor. The food was very poor quality, the restaurant was noisy because there are now moor tables and we felt very squashed in, the staff were friendly but it has gone rapidly down hill in every way we had some chicken dishes and the chicken was awful dry and hard, will not be going again

If I could rate as a zero then I would. I decided to take my 8 year old son there for his first ever Chinese as I knew they did a buffet menu where you can select various dishes. Before we sat down I spoke to a member of staff when we arrived to ask if I could just have one buffet meal as my son was only going to try dishes and was told that would not be a problem. The food that we had was like warm at best and the duck and other meats were dry. However, my son tried a bit of everything which was the plan but he only ending up eating a few chips, a pork rib and some chow mein. When I went to pay the bill I was told it was £64 and assumed it was incorrect as we only had a couple of soft drinks and the one buffet menu so was expecting it to be close to £40. However, I was then informed (only after sitting down and having the meal) that the manager had said we would be charged for 2 people. As I was with my young son and I didn’t want to have a full on argument and make him feel uncomfortable so I paid. However, I am so angry that they seemed to think it was acceptable to charge me for something I didn’t think I was paying for and there was no attempt of an apology when I questioned it. The manager was also nowhere to be seen (hiding behind his staff). I feel completely ripped off and there is no way the meal was worth that amount of money. If they’d have let me know before I had sat down and ordered I wouldn’t have eaten there knowing that my son probably wouldn’t have eaten much being his first Chinese. I will NEVER eat there again. The food was poor, the prices were extortionate and we were lied too. Day light robbery

When I went in I was greeted by friendly staff, beautiful decorations and nice, calm relaxing music. I felt welcome and the food was bigger portions than imagined- with a cheaper price. Definitely will come back.

We usually use Shan Hui for takeaway but chose to meet up in the restaurant on a Saturday evening in December. Lively atmosphere, great food, great service. Team were very hospitable and made us welcome.

Got a takeaway, paid £30 for not even £5 worth of food. Starter dish for 2 was just enough for one, it was cold, the chicken was old and dry, I could go on, but I will never use this place ever again.

Please do not visit here. We have been here years ago and it was alway nice, however we decided to book a table drive from Bedford with friends for a meal Firstly The menu if very limited, but we decided we would try. The starters came out Luke warm while we were eating our starters they brought out the duck course and we asked if we could finish the starters first . When they brought the food it had been sat under a hot plate and was Luke warm. Then the brought the main course which was stone cold. We told the waiter who said he would go and get the manager . We sat there for 15 minutes while the manager ignored us, so we asked another waiter to be told the manger would come in a minute. Five more minutes we went to him. He said he would Cook us fresh food!!!! 15 more minutes out came the same dish’s not only had it been the same food on the same plates !! Yes you guessed it it was cold again. The manager was absolutely awful has no customer service and said we had to pay for the drinks but

Whilst the food was fine and the waiting staff excellent, the layout and ambience was very negative. There was a severe mould outbreak on the wall next to or table which as an asthmatic was really bad for my health. There are steep steps up to the dining area but there is no hand rail to help you get up the steps. The restaurant area is bare and very sterile, whereas used to have table cloths, napkins etc but now very cllnical and bare. No real reason to go back there. Also, gratuities automatically added to the bill. Why should we be told how much to tip? surely this should be up to use as the customer. Sadly, will not be in a hurry to go back and most certainly would not recommend.

Zero… disappointed to say the least.. We have just eaten at the Shan shui Leighton Bizzard and have done so for 14 years.. that was so so disappointing and we will never return.. the restaurant is cold, food is cold.. chicken is tough.. I’m literally in tears as this was an anniversary and birthday meal.. sort it out it’s so sad… I had high hopes.. sold out to make a profit… good luck.. we will not be returning..

My wife and I went to celebrate her passing a course, 3 months hard work. No one in, we went in as had good food before, waiter didn't appear friendly that we wanted to sit down not take away. We sat down they had buffet option, we asked for main menu so we were given a different one, we chose starters to share and two main courses. Water appeared fairly fast and put starters and main course on our table all at once? I asked why, he said he forgot to check with chef or something like that. It was my wife's celebration so we ran with it, the vegetarian main course consisted of cabbage and cabbage, little others vegetables she is vegetarian so went for mixed veg. Waiter watched as soon as a plate was empty he snatched it, made us feel so unwelcome, we ate most of our food, left no tip walked out after paying, waiter not very good at all. Next day, I think you can guess we did not feel to well. Sad really, perhaps changed hands...

I have only given this place 1 star because that’s the lowest it will allow me to give. Visited for a family celebration meal and I will never return. The restaurant was freezing cold which in turn made the food go cold very quickly. Was hoping to make a nice evening whilst having a meal out but we was so cold we ate our food quickly and left. There is ongoing revelation work going on and quite frankly they should not be open whilst this is happening. There is large tile spacers pointing up from tiles causing a trip hazard. The quality of food did not warrant the price that we had paid. We complained to the young girl on the till to be told that she agreed that it was far to cold and she had already raised this concern with the manager yet nothing had been done to rectify the issue. We wasn’t offered a discount or anything. I for one certainly won’t be back there again. This has ruins what was supposed to be a special occasion.

Would have given zero stars but couldn’t! Minus 5 in the restaurant!!! Absolutely freezing. Staff awful!! Pigeon sized portions. Wrong good brought out. Then when wanted more (which you are allowed to order) the man didn’t like to bring it out. Duck was like it had been cremated. Tasteless. Over priced. Beer was warm but yet the restaurant was freezing!!! Nearly £10 surcharge added!!!! Everything tasted disgusting! Would only recommend if you have had covid and can’t taste anything!! Reheated chips that were cold, extra raw veg in my satay chicken meant I couldn’t eat it. Expensive the worst Chinese I have ever eaten, don’t believe the positive reviews on here, they must be fake. We use to love coming here but after our visit this weekend we won't be returning. Starters were literally thrown on a platter, no decorations or dips like there use to be. The chow mein was pale and swimming in oil and we were rushed in and out in 45 mins. It is also so tired and run down, no back ground music so you feel you have to whisper to avoid the table next to you overhearing everything. Not enjoyable

Disappointing takeaway! I have been a visitor and user of Shan shui for many many years and it has always been by far the best Chinese locally. Last time I used them the food seemed reheated, dry and old. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ordered tonight a take away for my daughters birthday. £70 spent. So disappointed. Has this been taken over? The food is completely different. The chicken balls have shrunk and were dry. All the emails had little or virtually no sauce. The chicken was hard and dry along with the beef. This to me seemed like food that was days old reheated. So very disappointed. Portions have shrunk, food lacked taste and general appeal and at sometimes £9/£10 a dish and now no discount for collection either… will for one not be ordering from here again. Such a shame. I’d be really interested to know what has changed as it had been so good for so many years . On the hunt for a new Chinese takeaway now!

We visited here on a Saturday night, there were great measures in place regarding Covid but still a fab atmosphere and friendly helpful staff! The food was great and brilliant value for money. Would recommend highly!

Ordered directly from the restaurant online Saturday night and we were given a pick up time of 55 minutes. My partner went to collect after 55 minutes and was told there would be a further 20 minute wait. He came home and went back after 20 minutes and was again told there would be another 20 minutes to wait. No apologies were made, he did get a free drink but that was really the least they could do. My partner saw several frustrated customers who were in the same position and many cancelled their orders due to such long waiting times. Overall we waited over an hour for our order to be ready. Unfortunately the food proved to be just as much of a disaster as the wait! The chilli beef was inedible and had been overcooked, the chow mien was burnt and the whole meal was cold. We were willing to forgive the wait but the food was such a disappointment. We threw most of it away. I contacted the restaurant the next day to ask for a full refund. I was offered a meal voucher but I explained that we wouldn’t be returning or ordering from them again. The refund was refused. Me and my family have been loyal customers over the years but will not be ordering from them again.

Ordered from here through Uber eats, continually called as was an hour late, when we finally got through were told would be another 40 minutes to an hour, already now 9pm, if they can't handle extra orders shouldn't take them, We cancelled order and got food elsewhere and will not use again, They didn't even care that their customers were unhappy, Avoid if you actually want to eat! Only scored 1 because I had to!

Dinner out tonight with friends. Excellent food, friendly service. A tad chilly in there tonight and could do with some background music but that doesn't deter us from visiting again as you are always guaranteed a great choice of dishes, served with a smile. Great to still be able to eat at one of or favourite restaurants.

Had a lovely meal as a family last night, taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. Food was so fresh and piping hot. Staff were attentive and kind. My children even commented how nice the lady manager was to them as she made them feel special and welcome. Highly recommended.

We have recently moved to Leighton Buzzard and were recommended Shan Shui by some friends. Wow we were glad we tried it out! The concept of paying a set price and ordering as much as you like (6 dishes at a time) to your table was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious and of really high quality - tender beef, juicy king prawns! We really enjoyed all the dishes we ordered and even went back for more starters. As we dined on a Monday evening, we each received £10 off with the governments ‘Eat out to help our’ scheme so it was incredible value. However, even at full price we would have been thrilled with the food and lovely service so we will be returning for sure. Shan Shui, you are a new family favourite!

A decent menu and selection of food. However noticeably more expensive than other restaurants, and only light-to-medium portion sizes (the salt and pepper chips in particular were an embarrassing portion size).A £50 family meal looked rather disappointing compared to other restaurants, and while all the food was perfectly ok, it was nothing special and certainly not worth the money. A bit disappointing considering the mostly impressive reviews on here.

We had a lovely Monday evening meal here with our two-year-old son. The food was excellent, and they were really welcoming to our son. We'll definitely go back, even when the £10 government discount is over.

Ordered online before the restaurant had even opened and had my order acknowledged within minutes. Food turned up promptly and was very yummy indeed. Delivery driver is also practicing social distancing for the delivery xx i would definitely recommend Shan Shui!

This restaurant was very disappointing and not a patch on our last visit. The problem was sadly the food of which which was basically overcooked and hence tasteless. Maybe it was a bad night but as we ate early surprised that the food looked, was and tasted so tired.

It's not a fancy place by any stretch, quite basic & the food is standard Chinese buffet food. Plates not dressed, portions not huge. Wine was cold & reasonably priced. Quite busy & staff pleasant. £22 per head for food plus drinks. A nice evening had by all & noone left hungry.

Disappointing. From the moment we stepped inside the waitress was rude and in an awful mood. Food average, rice heavy and more like boiled rice than egg fried rice.

Best Chinese in town. We’ve tried them all and this wins wins wins. You can Takeaway or sit in. Either way it’s delicious and the eat in fixed price is good value for a lot of food served at your own table. If you’re hungry you will love it!

Do not eat in this place as a single person, I was absolutely fleeced last week paying almost £50 for mediocre food and service - the buffet requires minimum 2 people, if you are alone you are ripped off big time. No sympathy, no other options or offers from frankly rude "suck it up" staff - my only regret is that I paid the full amount and did ot walk out paying half - half is what it was worth. the single person menu is vastly more and proportionately expensive compared to the buffet menu they really need to address this as trading standard my be visiting

Being a massive foody I know good food and service! Walking into here the atmosphere was warming. It was busy, yet they will still very attentive! You have a small card to fill in to choose up to 6 starters and 6 mains per table. Don't be fooled into thinking is that all. They make plenty per table of each portion. The food was piping hot, tasty, presented well and quite honestly superb. After they ask if you would like to order more. We got complimentary fresh oranges in Cointreau as a palate cleanser. Well done!

My husband had been promising me to take me here for a while so for a birthday meal, we went here to try it out. I think the premise is brilliant for evening meals, choose up to 6 starters and 6 main dishes, bit like a Chinese tapas & cooked fresh to order. Pad Thai & chilli prawns were awesome, starters were a little disappointing, bit greasy and inside the duck spring rolls were quite a bit of chewy duck skin, not the best when you're expecting it to be crispy! I'd recommend to people who like a Chinese but I wouldn't rush back there.

We went to this restaurant six of us to celebrate our granddaughter's 21st birthday. Living locally our family joined us to have an evening meal. The staff were exceptionally friendly and decorated our table beautifully. We all had a wonderful meal - the choice was very good and quantity kept being added as we consumed many different choices, normal and non meat eaters. Would go back again and recommend most highly this restaurant.

Myself and partner went for a meal here and could not fault it. Our mums birthday was coming up the next week and we knew the food was outstanding so we booked a table for the four of us. Yet again fantastic delicious hot food. Our daughters birthday is this weekend so we will definitely be booking again. Better get off here and book before no tables are available! Very regimented in terms of ordering food. 6 starters and 6 mains for a set price where can you go wrong. Very pleasant surrounding to eat in. Just a little more attention to detail needed. Ice in the water to cool it down especially on a hot day the red wine needs some attention needs to breathe. Will definitely be trying again

Very automated - fill in boxes to order. Plenty of choices and reasonably priced wine. Food could be hotter and Mongolian Lamb would be nice with pancakes. Food very filling - you would certainly not leave feeling hungry. Was discouraged from having fritters as a desert instead offered a complementary option. On the whole very good value.

We have really enjoyed this establishment in the past and decided to take my brother there. Firstly it was very quiet, which is not a good sign. I have to say the food was average at best, no dressing up of plates, infact it was thrown on. Then the bill. £75 which for what we received in my opinion was overpriced. I have enjoyed my previous trips here but this time it seemed too much on a quiet day to put any effort in from the staff in the kitchen and the waitress. Would i go again? Maybe but not in a hurry.

As usual, we had a great experience at the Shan Shui. This time we ordered take away, and the food was ready at the exact time they told us.

We have been on and off regulars at this Leighton Buzzard Chinese restaurant for over 20 years. On and off because sometimes we eat takeaways and sometimes we don’t, and because sometimes the food here has been good and sometimes it’s been, well, meh.

Food very bland and quite greasy. I ordered believing this was a “ cut above “ I was probably a little mislead by their marketing. The Mongolian Lamb was “ Alright “ but the special chow mein became bin fodder!

Always reluctant to choose a restaurant with a buffet style idea as the food is always bland and tasteless. This place could not be any further from that, the food is gorgeous every time we have been and the service is excellent. Only advise if going for with a party of 3 or more.
