Sorry but the food is dire:Sweet and sour chicken swimming in piles of gloop with only a few chicken pieces. Shredded smoked chicken so sweet the it was inedible. Won't go there again

Fabulous food from this family run Chinese takeaway - they never disappoint! They don’t use MSG in their food, are happy to cook Gluten Free wherever possible and they have always served us top quality food. We’ve tried a few others in the area when Shan Hai hasn’t been open, but always come back! It’s quite a nice touch too that you can see into the kitchen area where your food is being prepared and it’s immaculate. Lovely, friendly team and can highly recommend!

We have just ordered and eaten a chinese takeaway from here at 5pm and it was awful. Worst chinese takeaway we have experienced. I haven’t even finished mine so as to write this review. We chose a set menu and it literally had no real flavours and everything was too well done. We stopped using them as our local takeaway some time ago, as it had gotten worse and unfortunately because the one we now use all the time is closed today, we decided to take a gamble with Shan Hai. Big mistake. We had to collect as no delivery. We use Tang Village in Oakdale and they deliver as well. Far superior food and always a pleasure to deal with. Will never use Shan Hai again, it was basically slop! And not hot slop at that! It all appeared to be reheated, absolutely awful. I welcome their comments.

We ordered a takeaway for 4 people from Shan Hai and it was ready in 20 minutes. The reception was really friendly and the food piping hot. It was mostly excellent, just the sweet and sour pork wasn't the best. However we will definitely use again.

We haven't been here for a while so I was hoping for a good return. All the meat was very tender and generally every thing was ok but there was far too much gloop - all the dishes apart from the special chop suey were completely submerged in gooey stuff. We also got spare ribs instead of beef and black bean but there was no point in trying to sort it as we do not live close. Perhaps some people like lots of sauce but we prefer a LOT less.

Reasonable price, freshly made, crisp and hot. Chicken velvety tender and tasty, veg bright and delicious. Surpassed expectations.

Quite honestly the worst chinese ive ever had! Tasteless for a start. Special fried rice was basically plain rice with sliced meat on top. Chicken with cashews had literally 6 cashew halves in it. Chicken and pineapple rice had 1 piece of pineapple in it. Chicken chow mein had 3 slices of chicken on top and the honeyed spare ribs were dry and gristly......horrendous.

This was once our go-to takeaway but it went downhill and we traveled further to the Chef Da China. Now after a couple of years we thought we'd try again. Egg fried rice had no trace of egg at all. Chow mein was very greasy. No free prawn crackers like they used to do. No discount for collection any more. So it's back to the Chef da China despite the travel.

We have tried quite a few Chinese takeaways in the vicinity and every time we could rate only 6/7 out of 10 for them. This evening we tried Shan Hai in Merley and we were very pleased we did, as we gave it a full 10 out of 10. Each meal was excellent in quality and taste and not enhanced with MSG. We highly rate and recommend this takeaway. We will certainly be using them again.

Always use this place and its the best Chinese I've ever had. Always busy but the food extremely fresh a d tasty everytime

Was quite excited to try this chinese takeaway. Capital ribs tasted old, and swimmimg in some disgusting sauce. House special chow mein, all meat tasted old, and not fresh, sweet and sour prawns not too bad. I think chinese takeaways have gone downhill, even the chefs not cooking the food properly. Not authentic. Very disappointed.

A takeaway tonight from shan hai the first one for a long it time very much enjoyed as this Chinese is my local.

This place used to do the best takeaway Chinese not any more in edible😭😭 don’t know if it’s changed hands or they’re I’ve gone on holiday or what’s happened but just save your money

Just phoned up to order some food and I was told they only deliver in a 3 mile radius. I was told that as we were 3.2 they won't deliver. Kind of bad from the outset so will definately never be using these guys. Also tried to say they weren't Wimborne when their site says they are. Again, pretty poor.

Absolutely wonderful well cooked fast food, as a treat on a Friday we thought that we would give it a try and we were certainly not dissapointed

The set meal is nice. For a change we tried chicken with satay, and with chestnuts. Sadly both were poor. The chef was white and in his 20's - why when many Chinese are excellent at cooking?

Terrible tasteless food and appalling customer service, tonight we collected what we hoped would be a quick tasty meal but on emptying the contents of the plastic container on to my plate I found a long black hair which obviously put us right off our meal, returned said hair to them and was confronted with an obnoxious member of staff who had no customer facing skills and would only offer a £5 refund on a £30 meal which to be honest we could not face eating, so would recommend you find a decent takeaway.

We had no choice but to come to this one so we bravely tried it for second time. I was very skeptical after our last visit it was the worst Chinese food ever. This time I thought it's risky so I would order safely just chips and curry sauce my partner ordered a chow mein, rice and chips and curry sauce. It was all fine, average as you can expect from a standard Chinese takeaway. So thought I should do a fresh review and upgrade the rating.

Have been using Shan Hai for 5 years as it is close to where we live ,food is always pretty good.my only bad point is they are a bit tight on prawns and there is never enough plum sauce when we have the duck.Delivery is quick and reliable ,so pretty good all round!

Egg fried rice with hardly any egg the rice was plain tasting like microwavable packet rice. The chicken satay didn't taste nothing like satay sauce. Couldn't taste the peanut's or see one. The orange like sauce looked, tasted as if it come out of the cheapest jar. The pancake roll looked like it was someones first attempt at making one. It was thick greasy batter with squiggly lines of batter coming out of it. It's one of the worst Chinese takeaways we have visited. My man said I cook better fried rice and in this case I have to agree with him. Sorry sham had we won't be coming back.

Been using this takeaway for over 2 years now ... definately the best local chineese takeaway we have had ...after experiencing others in wimborne and corfe mullen!! Never been dissapointed here and staff very friendly ,

We decided to try the Chinese take away food at The Shan Hai Chinese.  Plenty of menu choice, very well cooked and tasty, good portion size and value for money. Opted for delivery and this was on time and the food still hot. The service was friendly and speedy and the atmosphere very pleasant.

My wife and I live in the centre of Wimborne and over the past few years we've regularly had delivery meals from this local Chinese takeaway, and on every occasion we have been extremely pleased with quantity, quality and value. I am not prone to lavishing such praise without due cause, but having tried all the other local Chinese takeaways, this one stands out as exemplary.

This is my local takeaway and always first choice. Service is good, prices are reasonable, and have never been let down by the quality or amount of food.There are no other takeaways in this location for other choice or competition so they are always busy so phoning your order in is best.
