Shambles in Craven

I first visited this Fish and chip shop 20 plus years ago it was excellent then It's still very good today the cod and chips were very good and cooked fresh while I waited .. It does get busy in the small shop so you can expect to wait.

Very cheap! Got served very quick and the food was good.

The service was with a smile and a chat, and I was really looking forward to my Yorkshire fish and chips, with gravy and scraps. I prefer my batter to be thicker and crisper on the outside. But the fish was freshly cooked and didn't have time to drain, and just put in a card box, so by the time we got back to our holiday accommodation, it was swimming in frying oil and soggy. And it was a very small large chips, which we usually share between 2, so I didn't really have any chips, which I was looking forward to with my gravy. One large gravy for one large chips is plenty. Don't think I would be going back.

Poor service. One of the workers insisted I’d pushed in (I’d waited patiently behind a large group for 15 mins) and made a point of serving others before me. No apology when she’d realised either. Food okay but not the best, wish I’d have grabbed a refund!

First time we have had fish and chips from here(we are on holiday). The chips were lovely and the batter is the best I’ve ever had(and our local chippy has won awards). This chippy could give them a run for their money. The service was extremely efficient.

Fish was fresh and tasty, batter crisp and just right, first time ever in settle and after Saturday tea at another fish shop in settle, the ship is the best by far. Recommended.

It's ok, very busy slow service, and portions very average, probably would not visit again.

Tried to access this place with my assistance dog, and was refused entry. Shame on you. Took my business to the the golden lion instead.

First visit to this place with the family. Excellent service, the gentleman who served up was on top form, friendly, helpful and went the extra mile for us. Many thanks, we will one day be back. Shambles? Quite the opposite from our experience.

Always head here for cheesy chips on my way through Settle. Excellent food, good service. Found a member of staff was a fellow Pokemon Go player - love it when staff are friendly/chatty.

Good food and big portions. Cosy cafe area, friendly service but not the quickest. Prices reflect the tourism of the town.

Used the take away a few times but not the eat-in part. Always been happy with the food and the portion. Always seems slightly under-staffed when I have been . . patience is a virtue ;)

Lived up to its name. Never known anything like it as several customer orders were taken out of turn without paying and then confusion inevitably reigned. Grumpy staff who made their jobs far more difficult. Won't be returning. Food wasn't great either!

About average, made us put our own salt and vinegar on which I prefer them to do. Mushy Peas on the cool/watery side.

Unless you are exceptionally hungry or have a voracious appetite do not ask for large haddock or cod. Their food is well presented and large portions for a good price. Parking outside on the square too.

I visited about a month ago. Hygiene standards are abysmal. More chips and fat on the floor than the fryer.

Decided to give this place a try. Walked in and sat down...no acknowledgement. We sat and waited whilst making our mind up from the menu...a little pricey I thought 🤷🏻‍♀️ Wasn’t sure weather we ordered over the fridge that partitioned us off from the kitchen or wether somebody came to us. Eventually our order was taken. Drinks were served first, spilling fresh orange on the table, which in turn was sticky from the last people who sat at the table. That’s how it stayed too! With sticky sauce on the salt pot and vinegar joining in too. It was just too grubby for my liking. The fish and chips on the other hand were tasty, portion sizes were to large for me. I’ll be giving this one a wide birth...

Set in the heart of settle market place, very friendly staff and owner, nice food and reasonably priced for the area.

Just brought some chips from here. The majority went in the bin. Evidence of what looked like metal shavings in the chips. Think they need to clean their fryer and look at their hygiene standards. Unfortunately there is no option for 0 stars. If that's a 5 star hygiene rating I dread to think what a 1 is like.

The fish was good quality. The fruity curry sauce was like what I remember from my childhood. That made the visit well worthwhile. The fish was freshly cooked. The chips were a slightly thinner cut from what I am used to but tasty regardless. Thankfully though they've resisted the trend towards double/triple fried chips. It's a trendy waste of a chip.

Fish nice, chips scrappy only 1 slice of bread and butter. Service slow. Expensive for what we got.

Ok but they didn't sell Cod. When I asked why it was because the locals don't like it and no demand. Who knew? 🤔

Normally the chippy is good but today I received some food and the sausage is undercooked so is the batter. But my chips are overdone. Not happy with this expierence at all

Walked in to be greeted with a young guy with a beard puffing away on an e-cig whilst frying food. When we enquired about sitting in he was most rude and aggressive in his mannerisms. Decided to spend our cash across road at old man cafe who more than made up for the lack of manners at chip shop. Would I recommend? Not if it were the last place on earth. Needs lessons in customer service
