Shalimar Balti House in South Kesteven

A hidden gem in Bourne’s crown. I used to be a regular, sadly not had the opportunity to visit for last few years. I went last night with my wife and her friends/colleagues for her works Christmas meal. Pleased to see that it has not lost its charm and retained its quality of service and food. We were welcomed and seated quickly, offered to take our coats and given time to settle and view the menu. We were allowed to bring our own alcohol as they are a dry bar, reasonable corkage fee, they supplied us with wine glasses. If you are looking for an intimate, well presented restaurant with great customer service and quality food I highly recommend Shalimar. Definitely will make an effort to return sooner next time.

I rang to complain the next day and was refused a partial refund, only offered a discount if I ordered again. I would not risk it as most of this meal went in the bin. So disappointing when spending hard earned money…

Absolutely awful oily food no taste SAVE YOUR MONEY AVOID LIKE PLAGUE!!! I feel like I was literally robbed after this experience

We have been ordering deliveries through Just Ear since lockdown. We only order the curries but the quality of these is still good despite their recent diversification into other cuisines.

First time ordering on the back of recommendations from friends. Absolutely loved it, piping hot when arrived despite the 8 mile delivery and food was delicious, definitely be using again.

Shame , been going here for years but tonight's takeaway was just not up to scratch . Tasteless, not cooked as requested eg vindaloo, Bombay Aloo side was just hard potatoes no taste..bhagi burnt. Overall very disappointing I'd think twice about ordering again

So we ordered a takeaway via the Just Eat app, as we have done previously. We opted for delivery and food arrived on time. That’s where the positive’s end!!! My husband found a long dark hair in his Jalfrezi which put us both off our food and threw the rest of it away. Indian takeaways are not cheap but the thought of poor hygiene means we won’t be ordering from there again!! I have sent them a message however they have seen it but not replied, no apology or wanted to respond. Bye bye Shalimar 🤮

Its probably a real shame that we havent left reviews for Shalimar previously, as these would all have been very positive/excellent. We have dined here on a very regular basis for the past 6 years. We were so dissapointed with our last visit. Some of the chicken pieces in one of our main meals appeared to look burnt BUT they didnt taste burnt, they tasted NOT like chicken or burnt! I mentioned this to the young lad (the owners/managers son) who said that perhaps the chef over cooked the chicken (i said it wasnt burnt) and he would speak to the chef. We were so surprised that we didnt get an apology or even an offer of a courtesy cup of coffee. Our bill is always over £75, at Christmas, it was over £110 .......... This particular meal cost us £91.40. This latest experience has made us rethink where we dine now to the point whereby last week we ate at Montaz in Bourne. An apology would have been nice. Not sure if we will return as a customer..... feel really let down. I genuinely hope that the owners reply to our comments. Thank you

After an initial problem with delivery, the staff were most helpful and the food was hot and delicious.. I would most defiantly recommend to anyone.

So I used the just eat app to order my takeaway. Delivery time spot on, that’s where the happiness ends. The curry was flavourless and cold. Plain naan, may as well have come straight out of the freezer is was that cold. Onion Bhaji not bad, samosa again tasteless and cold. I’m surprised as the competition in Bourne re restaurants / takeaways must be high, so why the horrible food. I’ve eaten in the restaurant and the food was fine.. I’d rather wait an hour or more to receive my food, if it is cooked properly and is hot

Booked a table for 4 a month ago. Never had this confirmed and emailing asking if anything special could be done for my sisters 21st birthday. They didn’t reply and on the phone, the man I spoke to said that he can just offer a round table and we will not do anything special. On the morning of arriving to the area, I got a text saying they cancelled the reservation. Obviously because they got a bigger group and no valid reason was given. Poor!!

Ordered a take away from here as we wanted it delivered and after hearing the food was tasty and would arrive hot we gave it a go, to say we were left disappointed would be an understatement. 5 main dishes all with sides were ordered and although it arrived nice and hot non of the dishes tasted of anything really. The chicken tikka masala tasted of literally nothing! The bhuna tasted of watered down tinned tomatoes. And the other 3 dishes were incredibly bland. Sadly we won’t be ordering again and will take the 7 mile drive to go to our usual restaurant Ghurka 91, and I certainly can’t recommend it either 😔

Shalimars food is authentic and of excellent quality. The service and value is fantastic too. Highly recommended

Fancied a curry on Boxing Day and all our usual haunts were closed so tried the shalimar . We were not disappointed, food was very tasty and delivered quickly . Only slight issue was a little oily than we are used to . Appreciated the free poppadoms. Will definitely try a sit down next .

The food was outstanding definely coming back again both takeaways and eat in are very good would definely recommend to anyone looking to eat a Indian.

To start the Easter break the Wife and I thought we'd have a break from the Kitchen and order an Indian Meal from one of our favourite restaurants .... 30 minutes after ordering online it was on our doorstep which is 6 miles from Town...... all food was still piping hot, from the Mixed Kebab starter to the Keema Nan Bread, we had Chicken Bhuna, Lamb Pasanda, chef's Special Biryani, Onion Bhaji's and Special rice. All the family agreed how lovely and tasty everything was and my daughter commented how nice the Lamb was..... everything as usual tasted freshly cooked with just the right balance of spices, my Wife doesn't like to over eat but couldn't help but finish all her Biryani, once again the Shalimar has scored top marks, many thanks

Heard some mixed views on Shalimar so thought it was worth a try. Our experience was very disappointing. The food was fairly bland, the chicken was just (I mean just) cooked, and obviously poor quality. The overall food taste and quality was really disappointing. Although the restaurant was empty the service was slow and pretty poor. It’s not a terrible place but we won’t be back again.

The last time I visited I rated as average, but for a family meal,l recently, there was a huge improvement in the food

Had a friends birthday meal here, on a Thursday night which apparently was a kind of ‘buffet’ night. I’m always up for trying new things, and their spicy fish starter blew me away. Absolutely wonderful!! The portions are plentiful, the prices reasonable, the meals authentic and full of taste. We’ll all be back here for more.

Been eating here for nigh on 20 years and still a great place to eat. Excellent friendly staff and great food. Well done Hassan and Ali

We went to this resturant many many years ago and did not enjoy our visit so it's taken long time for us to return, but we are glad we returned. The resturant is ute sell but very modern no comfortable, the menu was very good as I'm a vegetarian and I was pleased that some of my favorite sides are available as main courses so I enjoyed a gret met free two courses, while my husband sampled prawns to start with lamb jalfrieze for his main. Looking forward to a return visit next week

Mi primera visita a este restaurante, y no me decepcionó, también un buen servicio, excelente comida de calidad, muy sabrosa y tastym mis amigos estaban muy impresionados, volver muy pronto.

Lo que me gusta el Shalimar es que la calidad de la comida es excelente, el curry son frescas, con artículos interesantes y gustos para hacerle saborear su plato. La elección es estupendo y la comida excelente.

The restaurant itself is lovely - very welcoming staff. I ordered the Chicken Korma with rice, wasn't impressed, very watery and tasteless.

I visit the Shalimar at least once a month and cannot fault it. The service is always friendly and quick, the food is superb and at a very reasonable price. My favourites are chicken shaslik and brinjal bhaji....but it's all delicious!

Well of course we do!!..as this is simply the best place in town!! Chef's dishes are excellent,and the Shally is integral to our community-they share our joys and sadnesses with sincerity,the welcome is warm ,as friends meeting each other.Favourite dishes-and should I add?-drink!-are always remembered.Just a great place to enjoy good food and good company!

Tried pretty much all the Indians in Bourne. Shalimar is my favourite Indian takeaway and as a restaurant. Staff are always really nice and accommodating. The food is lovely can't fault it. The portions are always good size. Can't fault this place. I'm a loyal customer.

Whenever the Wife and I fancy treating ourselves to an Indian meal the Shalimar is always No1 on our list ! we recently had a discount offer on a Take-away website and were glad to see the Shalimar was listed so we placed an order. Approx 35 minutes later one of their Staff was on our doorstep with the Order, we live 6 miles out of Town so this was good going, as always the food was excellent and bursting with fresh flavours, Take-away portions are good so there was enough left over for the next day. Well done Shalimar, we look forward to our next Indian meal from you.

I am told by discening friends that it is a very good Indian. However my recent experience with a takeaway was disappointing. We only had 3 dishes amd my wife was very disappointed with a Sag Paneer. My lamb Dansak and Chick peas side dish were bland and sadly had no distinctive flavour

Waited for over a hour to get nan bread half cooked! And 2 just edible currys.... The only thing I did enjoy was the poppadoms and sauces, safe to say we will not be returning!

Been three times now, and it's the nicest curry house around with a very good selection of curries and very good naan bread (peshwari exceptional) excellent value for money.

I travel all over the UK with my work and experience many many Indian restaurants....as this IS my favourite food......Not only does Shalimar feature as my No:1 in Bourne, it would easily make my top ten of the UK......Why?.......As well as the friendly timely service, good choice on the menu (not too much choice, which is often a bad sign) and clean surroundings, it clearly serves FRESHLY made dishes.......try ordering a dish with 'no onions' or 'no salt' to prove the point......so many restaurants obviously have pre prepared meals and you cannot hide that 'just microwaved' taste.....Or worse, when the sauce is gloopy and tastes like its just come out of a jar from Sainsbury's! Dont take my word for it, go and try a fresh, tasty dish and see for yourself.....one tip....order something simple (such as a Methi or Sagwala)....if your they cant cook a simple dish well then you can forget the rest! Enjoy!

Simply put every dish we have ever had in this Restaurant over the last 9 yrs has been great ! the service is excellent and staff are very polite and friendly. As a couple or in a larger party the service is always good, on a recent trip with relatives for a Birthday celebration everybody said it was the best Indian they'd tasted.... enough said !

Although this isn't a bad Indian resturant, there are two others in Bourne I would choose to go to before this one. The dishes seem to be a bit too greasy for my liking.

Called in without booking at 18.00hrs one Thursday night three years ago. Manager had just popped out to turn the sign round. I asked if we could have a table for two and he very abruptly asked if we had a booking. I said no and pointed out he had an empty restaurant and he quite forcibly said they were fully booked, with no apology, offer of another night or explanation, nothing!Will never give him the opportunity of a repeat.

Have tried all Restaurants in Bourne over many years. This is the best, not just here but in area. The staff are smart and welcoming. Drinks right temperature. Menu clear and diverse. Service timely. Food really tasty. Baptism Special awesome. Mixed Grill my favourite. Highly recommended; -)

Have enjoyed many takeaways from here, and they deliver in about 30mins (great if you're feeling very lazy and the weather is bad.) They have always been able to create dishes "without garlic" which indicates that they are made fresh, and great that we can order something we can both eat. Restaurant is traditional in decor, and could probably do with a tart up at some point, but that doesn't stop the food being good. When we visited, the restaurant was pretty much empty with people visiting to pick up takeaways. Staff were courteous and polite and left us alone to enjoy our meal. Their website will give you an indication of prices and good can be ordered through there, and they will need a phone call to confirm. Considering I wasn't a fan of indian food before, I now find a need for chicken passanda every now and then....

Went here last night for a meal for my mums birthday. Booked a table in advance. Had poppadoms with the standard lime pickle,mango chutney etc - all appeared to be from jars I had lamb Biryani - it was okay - lamb was tough, and though I requested hot, it wasn't particularly spicy. Others had Chicken Korai, Chicken Tikka Masala (VERY sweet) and Chicken Tikka Biryani Service was great from the girls, but the managers seemed a bit distant. It seems to be popular, so obviously a lot of people like it in Bourne. I saw some tables get the tandoori chicken which came sizzling on a pan to the table, and this looked to be the best.There was nothing different available on the menu - for me it's just a run-of-the-mill high street Indian, so I can't justify ranking it higher.

We went out with a party of 10 of us to the restaurant in December. The restaurant was very busy so you can immediately tell this was a good start. I have to say it was the niecest Indian we have eaten in Bourne and there are a few around the area. Everything about the food was great. The service was a little slow but mainly due to the fact the vast number of people in the restaurant, however they very promptly compensated us with drinks. I would recommend this Indian to anyone who is coming to the area for something to eat or anyone that is in the area. Excellent Food - A****

Just finished takeaway delivered from Shalimar. Excellent food and service to our door. Every meal has been 100% and great with allergies.

This was a first visit to this restaurant with my husband, daughter and son-in-law we had a very pleasant surprise the staff were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious we will certainly be paying another visit

Me and my partner went here one night, it was late but they were still open. We asked if it was ok to dine. Half way through our meal we got asked to hurry up as they wanted to close. At the same time knocked over our bottle of wine. We unhappily ate up as the guy was stood right next to us then tried to charge us for a full bottle of wine. We put the bad experience behind us and went again a few weeks later. The owner/manager was very unwelcoming and made us feel uncomfortable. We asked for the remainder of our food to be put into containers to take home. I couldn't believe it when he came back and literally threw 2 containers on the table and walked off. Good food, but you can't treat customers like that!! We will never go back.

My wife and I have been eating at this restaurant for many years and despite a change of ownership a few years ago (but within the same family we understand) the food is really good. When visiting "Indian" restaurants elsewhere we always find ourselves comparing the standard of cuisine with The Shalimar and only very seldom do we find their equal.The food is good value at full price but currently they have an offer on Monday and Tuesday of a substantial meal for just under £10.00. Unbelievably good value!

We regularly have a take away from here and really enjoy it. We went forum brothers birthday with a large group of friends and had the set menu. Plenty of food for all and a great atmosphere. Service on the slow side but we were a very large group.
