Not been for some years, the place has not been painted or decorated since it opened it is simply FILTHY the walls, the floor etc Looks like the inside of your local Car repair Garage, ok the food was ok but the place ? You might as well eat your tea in Kwickfit and thats an insult to Kwickfit because I would say Kwickfit is 100 times cleaner. If the restaurant is this bad, how bad is the kitchen ???? If you want Indian food go elsewhere do not go here unless your starving.

Went today with my family, I know it was weekday but there was no more than 3 tables eating now I know why. All food was reheated, fish pakoras were full of oil like it had been refried to make it warm again. Not much variety on food either. Honestly never again not even if it was £5 a person. They charge £12 per head and £6 for under 9s price not too bad for an average buffet but this one was absolute never again place. Even the drink I order had zero fizz I could go on of how bad it was. Go waheeds which is round the corner if you want to eat in buffet and in Blackburn.

Been going to this restaurant since it opened. The good has got better the price is very reasonable barely increased over the years. The main part of the restaurant could do with a tidy up of paint but I'm there to eat rather than view. It can get a tad noisy with children so I choose carefully the times i go.

Me and 5 friends visited this restaurant 23rd Jan 18. We were Not disappointed. We started with a small salad and I'm glad we did. We were no sooner setting down to our salad when the waiter brought out a huge platter of finger food. It was packed with loads of delicious treats. As we were getting stuck in low and behold he brought out another huge platter full of different delights. The food was more than plentiful just with the platters. But as big eaters we then moved on to the mains. The choice was fantastic and although we all had different things and several different dishes no one was disappointed. The staff were great and very friendly. I will be now using this restaurant as a new favourite place to go. Get booking and enjoy. A big thank you to all the staff who served us that night. Well done. A credit to you all.

The food was mediocre at best, although we did go on a weeknight, so maybe it's better at weekends. There is very little choice for vegetarians, and the salad was very unappealing. Really!?!? I have been to this place about 6 times and honestly I am really disappointed. Last few times have been horrendous. Used to be a good gaff for food (buffet) but thats not all that. These last 4 weddings I have literally had, bad service, someone on my table asked for a refill of starters and they refused - they put out one tray for 10 of us! and the place is too squashed in. Used to be a great fan but dont know whats happened to them. Waiters look like they have got up wrong side of bed. Cheer up its a wedding! They served gajarhalwa and honestly I have never seen it look like that! it looked horrible and no1 on my table would dare go for it. I will avoid from now on.

Food is delicious. There tend to be more bones in meat dishes than actual meat. Waiting for food takes quite a long time and staff aren't very welcoming. They guide you to a table but then aren't very 'approachable'. They tend to 'shy' away more. When ordering ice-cream for desserts me and my partner had to opt for another flavour as there weren't any of the flavours we wanted. Other than this, food is delicious and always fresh. Prices are reasonable and worth the money for the variety of food options. Something for everyone. Just a few more improvements and it will be perfect.

The buffet food provided was nice but the Website was misleading as it says over 90 dishes available, these may be available but many have to be ordered, they are not all available as buffet dishes. you then feel obliged to eat every last mouthful as signs are up telling you that food waste is chargeable. Lemonade and Coke are included in the price but tap water was refused to me. We had to wait a long time for ordered food.

we visited this place 2 weeks ago on the 26th, we had to wait at least 10 minz for a table cuz they were that busy. the restaurant floor was full and also the room next to the buffet was full of customers aswell. we finally got our table and i asked the manager were everything was as it was my first visit, he was very helpful and showed us around the buffet.we then had to wait another 20 minz in the queue for our food. when we finally sat down with our food, iv got to say it was well worth the wait. the food was piping hot and was full of flavor and just tasted amazing.i will definitely be visiting this place again. There is only one small piece of advice id give this place.....the young lad who said he was the head waiter could do with a pay rise, he was just rushing around filling the buffet, making sure customers are OK with everything, receiving customers and even taking the bills form the customers at the end of there meals. surprisingly he seemed really happy and talkative with all the customers even though he was so busynow that is more than what you can expect from your staff. in my opinion he was actually doing more work than all the others put together, but that is my personal opinion.i did ask him y he was doing so much work and he just smiled and said you came out to eat so its my job to make sure you enjoy yourself.the manager was buzy talking to some customers on the desk who i think were booking there wedding cuz i could see them choosing stages on the big screen.il definitely visit this place again and again as long as the young lad is still working there lol.

Let's get straight to the point:-Awful customer service (wedding/restaurant) - I can't blame the waiters after finding out they get paid peanuts (£2-2.50) per hour for dogs work from 11am until 1am, including cleaning the toilets. This is disgusting as they change a few thousand pounds for an event, yet the greed doesn't allow them to pay the staff accordingly. Food with plenty of excess fat, you need to complain to ensure your food is prepared correctly. There's plenty of other options in Blackburn!

Now if you know about hygiene and bacteria rice is prob the Achilles heel, here , but I'm glad to say I was ok next day no problems, but the barrels are not hot enough to to keep food hot if the service is slow. All,in all I paid £11.75 so more than happy, mouth orb look for somewhere else next imp

The front desk was unmanned on arrival and we were stood there for 5 mins before anyone came to attend. We were then taken to our table which was situated next to an ice cream freezer which was not clean. The waitress didn't know what the special offer on drinks was and so I had to advise her of a sign I'd seen outside of the restaurant stating the offer. The staff are not at all engaging and conversation is certainly not something that was going to happen. The main focus seemed to be on a party booking in the other room and as a result there wasn't a great great deal of food available and some of the dishes were missing entirely. The decor is now at a point of neglect and needs quite a lot of attention although the carpet appeared to be recently cleaned. The quality of food was average for this type of buffet. On departing it took so long for someone to arrive to take our payment that I almost had the phone the restaurant to let them know I was waiting. Again whilst waiting members of staff passed us by and wouldn't help as they were too busy attending the the group booking in the other room. it is a shame that the service is poor as when this restaurant first opened everyone working there was very friendly and fully of passion and enthusiasm for the business. Now it seems as though they have given up. It's the whole experience that makes my mind up on whether to recommend somewhere and unfortunately this restaurant falls short on every level. It's not beyond repair but I'm not sure if anyone really cares to do anything about it. Maybe it should be just used for functions only.

this place has so much variety you can not possibly try everything in one visit. good selection of salads and chutneys, starters included chicken tikka, fish pakora, roasted chicken, meat samosas even had chips to keep kids happy.lamp rice chicken bryani and boiled rice all on the buffet even some Chinese versions of rice dishes which i didn't try as i am not a big fan of chinese how ever my wife enjoyed them. by the time i got to the mains i honestly thought i had ate more than i could but the lamb karahi was just sop tenderly cooked that i could not help my self . chicken dopiaza, jalfrezi and even lamb shanks on the menu. for £10 this place is way too cheap for the quality and choice of cuisine offered. i have been to many buffet restaurants in the north of england have to say this place is a real hidden gem just outside the ribble valley. why go to the curry mile when there is so much more in places like shahi qila . onsite parking in asecure carpark at the back of the place. we were all very much pleased and grateful for the hospitality we were given by the waiters, i recommend to any one looking for a authentic india/pakistani cuisine to try this place. you will not disappointed.

My partner and I decided to go to Shahi Qila while on a trip to Blackburn and here's how we ended up there and what we thought of it.SummaryAlmost terrible but with a few redeeming aspects that give it a 2.3/5 rating. Not good enough for 3/5 so had to go with 2/5. We wouldn't go back nor recommend it to anyone. if this was half the price, at £5 I still wouldn't go back. Overall the food was not good, some food cold due to the air conditioning blowing out the flames under the dishes (another review referred to these as tea lights, however they are more like what you'd use to put under your frying pan to cook with when you went camping). The staff however were very polite and friendly, even making us a chicken korma as most of the mains were too spicy for us (though it was awful). They don't serve tap water, only bottled water, however it's not grossly overpriced (1.5litre bottle of volvic for £1.50 & £3 for a jug of coke) so I didn't mind too much..............................We wanted Indian food and after 20 minutes of driving around Blackburn town centre on a Tuesday night at about 19.45, and not finding much open, let alone an Indian restaurant we walked into one buffet (which was empty, only two staff and a full selection of food that looked like it had been out for a few hours) and promptly walked out again. At that point we decided to look on trusty google and trip advisor for an Indian buffet. The only one we were able to find that had a buffet on a Tuesday was Shahi Qila. The reviews were mixed but we always remember people complain about bad far more often that praise the good, so took the reviews (cautiously) with a pinch of salt. We called to check the price and if they were open and on tne the phone the gentleman was very polite and the restaurant sounded like it had at least some other people dining.................First appearances We arrived at the restaurant, which is not near the town centre and resembled a large b&b type house. Upon going inside the restaurant had a few other families in and we were greeted by who I think was the manager. We informed him that we had allergies and he kindly pointed out the dishes that we could eat (which were most of them). Once we had seen the food we were happy there was a large enough selection and sat down..................Decoration and atmosphereThe decoration of the restaurant was very fitting and quite pleasing, nice main and ambient mood lighting and the music that was playing resembled calming spa type music, which we actually quite liked, but did get a little repetitive. Later on while dining were realised some of the walls could do with a lick of paint and some touching of of peeling wall paper, but the restaurant didn't have a dirty feel by any means......................FoodIt almost felt like we were a second sitting of buffet goers and they were topping up some of the empty buffet containers while we there. The starters, though looked ok when we initially were shown around, were a mixed bag. Some had obviously been out for awhile and now tasted like nothing, mainly the bhaji's - They were more like dense cake than a flavourful crispy bhaji's that we are used to. Even the poppadoms had lost there crispy snap. The winners however were the chicken tikka bits which had a fantastic flavour though better preparation of the chicken, cutting off more skin/gristle would have been appreciated. The small Shish kebab pieces tasted ok for the first bite, however an old meat type smell seemed to come from them, which put us off. I tried a new batch that was put out later on but still smelt horrible, like meat that had been out of the fridge or in a bin for too long. For reference here's how I'd rate the main starters.Poppadoms 2/5Bhaji's 0/5Meat samosas 3/5 (tasty but were more like mushed veg Samosas)Chicken tikka pieces 4/5There were only about 4 main meet dishes, non of which I'd ever had before, one with dry chicken in was tasty but again, more meat preparation so it was an easier eat and not mainly bones would have been nice. The 'Chinese' they serve was not like any Chinese I've seen before, the only thing I recognised were noodles. All of the Chinese dishes were untouched, uncovered, gone hard due to being out for ages and cold. Even the position of where they were compared with the rest of the food was unloved, in a corner, and looked like a badly thought out afterthought. As for he other Indian dishes. The nana bread was actually awful. I think the fact that it had been sitting there for a while didn't help, but it tasted of nothing. Some of the dishes were stone cold duty to the air con blowing out the flame underneath (and no one realising) and the was no paneer veggie dishes. The manager was kind enough to make me a chicken korma as most of the dishes were either cold, too spicy for me or just tasted bad. Sadly the korma was worse than the other dishes, the chicken was ever so slightly undercooked and tasted bad and the sauce was terrible. I always ask for my korma with no nuts as I prefer the taste but have never tasted a korma that bad before, even with my request. The desserts were not good, they had a selection of fruit, a cake, rice pudding type dishes, however everything had been sitting out for far too long, and had either gone hard or developed a crust. The only nice dessert was the kulfi and mango ice cream which I suspect was bought rather than made on site. This really was not a great experience, however, due to the fact that the staff obviously want people to have a good eating experience and about 3 edible dishes I cannot give this a 1/5 rating, though it was close to it.Overall for £10 per adult, even half that, go somewhere else, anywhere else infact.

Went for a meal after reading mixed reviews and deciding to make up our own minds. The negative reviews are the accurate ones! The place, on entering, looks clean, airy and inviting. Now to the important stuff, the food! At best it was bland at worst it tasted...odd! Not much choice and was almost cold! Then I noticed that all of the large 'buffet barrels' were kept warm from the heat of just ONE small tea light under the centre of each! Now even I know that can't be safe where food's concerned, especially the rice, which in effect, was not being kept warm, but actually cooling down slowly! check it out, it can kill! Also, a few of the barrels were almost empty, just a few servings left at the bottom. As we were the first in (all the serving utensils were clean) it suggests that the food had been there more than one day! Will not be going again, didn't eat much. If you're like us and want to decide for yourself, please go and see. If you go off reviews then please steer clear!

at first impression I was impressed by the look of the place and the staff were friendly but don't be fooled as the food was foul. The Shish kebabs and chicken Masala had a rotten fishy taste and odour. One taste of this was enough to make me sick later in the evening. Please avoid and don't take your kids there.

A brilliant evening! We came for an end of school year celebration. Lots of staff on hand who made sure everything ran smoothly. Drinks were topped up continuously and we were made to feel very relaxed. Food was hot, fresh and superb quality. Will definitely be returning next year!

Been here a few times now and it's great. The choice is good from Starters to Main Courses to Deserts all is fine for a buffet style restaurant. Staff are very helpful and don't loiter around you which makes me feel uneasy (as if they think you're going to steal something). Ali the guy at the entrance who greets you and takes payment is really helpful and friendly. Thanks everyone.Shahi Quila (pronounced shahi keela means Royal Palace or Fortress. This restaurant is very popular with Asians and for me that gives it an air of authenticity. Nice Indian/Bollywood style music creates a nice ambiance.Looking forward to going back. See you soon Ali. :)

I have been to this place a few times in the last few months the first time I was invited by my friends & found the food, service and staff of a high standard.I was put off at first because of the nasty reviews I read on trip adviser however on my arrival I was pleasantly suprised. Since my first visit I have gone in with family a few times and none of the negatives seem true.

If you want your waiters to be in uniform and to kow-tow to you, forget it. If you want to be met by pleasant people serving great food, then go for it. I tasted lots of delicious foods I'd never tasted before. I'm allergic to milk and the staff pointed out what I could eat (of which there was lots) and what I couldn't. We were impressed by the number of Asian families eating out there and obviously enjoying it - what better recommendation could you have. No alcohol and they charge for water, but for 10 quid a head, can you complain about water at £1.50 for 1.5 litre? Great place.

Went with my family and chose the buffet option. The place seemed pretty quiet as we were the only people present. The food at the buffet was good but unfortunately I didn't like the desserts as there wasn't a lot of options to choose from. There wasn't much of a service as we were taken to our table and just kept on getting our refills. So overall the food was good but they definitely need to invest time to improving their customer service skills.

After fasting for 18 hours i thought i would got to eat out at a buffet with family. The poppadoms were stale i predict a day or two old,the salad was just not appealing to eye as it did not look fresh. moving on to starters the most bland food iv ever tasted.I filled my plate with a bit of everything but honestly can say it was rank, could not finish my plate and was put of main course i moved on to dessert. Another disappointment absolutely shockingly poor quality they cant even get jelly right all traditional dessert tasted bland and also tasted nothing like they should have. All this was followed by the worst customer service, i was told i would get charged for wastage of food as i struggled finishing anything of my plates I laughed at them and replied do you get concept of buffet?? If after 18 hours of not eating i felt their food was so bad i dread to think what it would taste like on a normal day.I felt sick all the way home. THE NEXT TIME YOUR HUNGRY AND THINKING OF EATING AT SHAHI QILA JUST HAVE SOME DOG BISCUITS.

Wasa little skepticle about the place having read some or the reviews, but this place is great! Food was good. Thankfully I had an Asian friend with me to tell me what some of the dishes were but great food and service. Only thing to complain about was one of the waiters kept getting the Hoover out after every table had left which was a little annoying. But overall, loved the place. Well definitely be going back!

It doesn't take much to get all the staff to wear a uniform does it? All the waiters swan around in black attire that don't match each others and then wear trainers! Trainers in a restaurant!? It looks really scruffy. They swarm around grabbing every empty plate, often interrupting conversation which is highly annoying and rude. Clear my table when EVERYONE has finished eating, please! Came here last year, and the building was a state. Peeling walls and it just needed a deep clean. To be honest, this time round, the place HAS had a lick of paint and looks much better for it.Food is alright FOR THE PRICE. Please bear in mind you're paying £9.99 for a buffet, cheap as chips, therefore you get what you pay for. Some of the dishes are swimming in oil but majority are edible and some quite enjoyable (try the chicken pakora and the chicken tikka masala). A disappointment was the desert. Very little choose from - slop, jelly, and more slop. A nice selection of cakes or even ice creams, or fruit would be much more suitable.Would return again but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Went to a wedding reception, the entrance was dirty, it needed a really good clean, the toilets were filthy, a spot of bleach wouldn't go amiss. The food was bland and I asked the waitress what the chicken dish was and she said she didn't know. I found it very disappointing, considering I looked at their website and was really looking forward to going. Sorry, that was just my opinion.

We thought we would try somewhere different, BIG MISTAKE! The staff were pleasant enough but not smartly dressed, one waiter wore jeans and trainers. The starters were ok but not up to a restaurant standard, salad was ok and sauce selection was varied and plentiful. The big letdown was the main course selection and quality. All the dishes were swimming in oil and tasted vile. To be fair i didn't try the chinese selection (sweet and sour chicken) simply because the bhuna and tikka masala were so bad. I have a reputation for eating anything and, as told by mum, always clear my plate. I honestly couldn't as it tasted so awful. The only reason i have given 1 out of 5 is because there is no zero. Take my advice avoid this place like the plauge.

Once again, we've been, and once again, we can't fault it. The staff are so very welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, and the food is fresh and absolutely delicious, with a fabulous selection to choose from. I know I've said it before, but each visit to the Shahi Qila is simply better than the last -- I don't know how they manage to improve what is already excellent -- but they do.Yet another thoroughly enjoyed evening out -- every credit to all concerned at this wonderful restaurant. It is certainly well worth a 50 mile round trip to experience the cuisine here. It is nothing short of magnificent. With grateful thanks once again from us both. We'll be seeing you again very soon.Mike & Kim

I have visited this place several times over the last years and have finally decided to give it a miss altogether from now on. The first time I went it was fantastic. The second time I visited I vomited the lot up within hours of returning home. At the time I put it down to over indulging in spicy food. A couple of years later I was invited and ate sensible but the food on offer was very poor, either dried out or swimming in oil and not held at the right temperature.Vomited again on my return home. I put this down to bad luck.. On my last visit to this buffet restaurant I could only fill my plate from the starter section as all the rice was empty, the meat dishes full of bones and bathed in oil. Basically everything swims in oil and has no individual flavor. You will find chunks of cut green chilli in everything! The mango Lassi also tasted vile. It's easy to be tempted by the low prices to eat as much as you want, but if you want authentic food that has flavour try a small take away restaurant called Khyber in Blackburn. It is a hidden gem.

Great family restaurant! Went on the weekend with my family. Had booked a table, so no waiting around for ages! It's a buffet style restaurant with a huge variety! If you like authentic Asian food, your sure to enjoy this place. Something for everyone! The kids enjoyed firstly the variety of starters and then the desserts! Overall the food was excellent. As its a buffet restaurant, it's help yourself, no service except for drinks. However, the staff manage to make you feel welcome every time, and have the place clean and tidy at all times. It's a great place for all the family can't wait to go again!

I visited that restaurant for buffet, restaurant looks nice, as i started taking food in my plate i checked that the food was dried and not fresh, non of the item was warm. On their website it says more than 80 dishes but it was only 12 dishes and some of them were empty and same were smelly, they have offer 1 pound unlimited drinks but the Pepsi was served seems like was opened couple of days ago. manager started argument when i made a complaint to him. i wouldn't recommend this at all. A day before i was in Kebabish which is better and good quality food.

I went with a large group of women from work. We were a mixed bunch of Asian and non Asian women. I don't like spicy food but i really enjoyed the food. Being a buffet i was able to choose from lots of starters for myself but there was also plenty of spicy dishes for everyone else. The waiter were really friendly and helpful, and if you wanted a specific dish making, just let them know the day before or earlier in the day and they'll make it for you! There is no alcohol served as they don't have a licence so you can't take your own. The restaurant is decorated very well and well maintained. there is a large function room upstairs which is for hire or can be used when they are busy. All in all i would go back again and recommend it to a friend.

Been to Shahi a few months ago, booked a table for my wedding anniversary. When we arrived the 'restaurant' was closed, but they didn't bother to inform me about that and had to go for the night elsewhere. After a call to the manager was promised a free meal so decided to give them one more chance but turned out that upon arrival, the waiter did not know anything about the manager's decision but was so 'generous' that he offered us free water on the house.Never ever will I visit them again, furthermore I advised all my friends to stay away from them as well.Btw. Food wasn't of highest standard neither so it definitely didn't help

Most of the good food was finished. When I asked for the food, they said wait for the refill and I had to wait for another 15 minutes. The refill was just a hoax. When I started eating, I felt nothing. It was tasteless and odourless. We wanted to eat before a Monday night football match at Ewood Park. We found the Calypso closed. So we ended up here. We were worried about a credit card payment but the we were told the 25 pounds in our pockets would be more than enough to pay for our buffet dinner. My heart was sinking. I usually avoid buffets. And what, I thought do you get for a tenner? The answer turned out to be a feast. Everything was good. The chicken pakoras feature strongly in my recollection, crisp but with so sign of a heavy fish and chip batter and splendidly juicy within. If you do like your spice set them off with pickled slices of hot green chilli. Mind blowing. And they have a truly marvellous way with potatoes. I must have tasted them cooked 5 different ways here, wet, dry and super dry. And in each case the potato had been totally permeated with its individual combination of spices. None of your boiled cubed spud thrown into a pre-prepared one fits all sauce here.Maybe we were lucky. We were there at 6PM with everything was freshly prepared and emerging piping hot from the kitchen. But frankly at these prices and with this quality of food, I'd go back any time I had the chance.
