Shah Zahan Tandoori in Norwich

Had the Vindaloo and it was absolutely delicious. Usually about the limit of what I can handle but this was one of the most pleasant examples of one I've ever eaten. Obviously a very spicy curry, but if you want to try one for the first time then Shah Zahan is the place to get one! The staff at the counter gave the place a good vibe too :)

Ordered tonight they delivered the wrong curry but delivered the correct one free of charge within 15 minutes. Very impressed,enjoyed the food Very much,will definitely use again

Last week i asked for an extra hot bryani.. They didn't deliver that... This week.. I stressed it.. And guess what they did.. Thank You Guys... from Cape Town... "YOU ARE THE BEST IN NORWICH!!!!"... see you next week!!!

Back in the game. I have used this takeaway for 20yrs , after changing hands I was very disappointed with the quality and taste. But after trying again . I am utterly delighted to say It was back to the old shah zahan I knew and loved. Bhaji spot on . Pathia well balanced hot sweet and sour equally. Rice nahn and poppadoms perfect. Delivery driver was friendly and polite, even complimented my chilli plants! Will definitely be my no. 1 indian takeaway once again. 😋 5*****

Last couple of orders have been noticeably lower in quality. Incorrect items and since when is Rogan Josh made without tomatoes. Not great for the money.

Such tender meat, the bhuna was so lovely and pashwari naan was as amazing as I would always hope for...plus the order was ready bang on pick up!

Really good food and good customer service

It’s been a few years since we’ve had a Shah, they were always good and they’re less than five minutes away from our home. We’d had a couple of average greasy takeaways from the Merchants of Spice, so we thought we’d give them a go. Looking at the negative reviews they were mostly about delivery. We ordered and paid online and I collected our order just before the agreed time. Our food was delicious: tandoori lamb and chicken, keema rice, a cauliflower bhaji plus some poppadoms. All very tasty, fresh and not too greasy. We love Shah again 🙏🏼

Food was ordered at around 7pm and didn't arrive till 10pm. Phone lines were closed so we couldn't query where our order was. We had company over who had a taxi booked for 10:30. Basically had to eat their food and go. I'd driven out to go to the restaurant myself to query where our food was. But it arrived just before I got there so turned around home. We requested some kind of refund for the inconvenience and the restaurant have refused any money back due to "adverse weather conditions" that's why it was late. It was spitting. No torrential rain, no snow nothing dramatic. Absolutely abhorrent service. Purely off of this basis we will never return here. Shame. Food has always been nice before but due to the awful service and lies, not a chance. Good luck.

I ordered online. They took my money and never delivered food. I call the store and they didn’t answer!! Robbed!

I’d like to be honest but unfortunately your both curry that we ordered is horrible and the flavour and taste is not so “Indian” type of food. I suggest you guys upgrade your food. My money got wasted on rubbish/ garbage food.

I have never been disappointed. Never had to wait for my food over 45 minutes. The Naga is to die for dansak is amazing. I love this place.

Had a nice take away delivery from here very tasty and a big serving considering the distance to me was still hot and the outside air temp was well below freezing I enjoyed the food and will be foing back for more 😀

Formerly a very good takeaway but recently has really plummeted in quality. This is not to say you might not get lucky but I wouldn't risk it if I were you. Last curry I got from here was actually inedible and I felt very ill the next day. Two stars because I hope it improves.

Food was delivered to my hotel piping hot. Tasted lovely and even the keema naan didn't have a lump of kebab in the middle which is what normally happens. Highly recommended!!

I’m not sure really what’s happened to this place. We have had some really good curry previously. Today we tried the 2 person meal. It was all the same curry but with slightly different ingredients. All the same colour and all pretty tasteless. Such a shame as I used to really rate this place but I won’t be going back.

We don’t usually go here, but we’ve recently moved to a new build and deliveries keep getting ‘lost’ so we wanted somewhere with easy parking so that my partner could collect, we ordered mid week so I can’t comment on delivery food or service during busy periods, but it was ready in 20 minutes and we collected no problem. The Starters and sundries were all delicious but I’ve had to knock a few stars off cause our medium spice curries were just too damn spicy, I don’t have an issue with spice and I always order the same thing, and I have never had one so hot from anywhere else, neither of us could finish 😂 if you like spice this one’s for you, and if not I would recommend ordering from the milder side of the menu.

The lady at the desk is very rude .order food for pick it was cold I called and was told by lady its cold outside then asked for manager he said could I not heat it up it used to be excellent now its very poor quality and very rude lady at the desk as I can see in reviews other customers think the same of her

Dreadful, food arrived 40 minutes late tonight, order incorrect, and food was mostly cold. We've had good experience here before but wont use again. I called to complain but they really didnt want to know. No apology, offered a free meal next time but this bad experience meant there will be no next time

Best Indian food in Norwich, hands down!

I do like this place but 2 orders in a row, the ‘bread’ on the chicken purée starter has been in cooked, basically raw dough. Such a shame as they get the topping perfect with flavours and spice every time. This is one of my favourite dishes but they do ruin this. I have no complaints with anything else

I called to ask roughly how long my food was going to be as the original time for it to be delivered was 18:40 and then it changed to 19:10, and the staff member I spoke to was so rude. I understand it’s a Saturday night but the way they spoke was horrendous. And then my order was 20 minutes late anyway.

Order accepted for 17.50, and expected time 17.50 text received 18.02 to say on its way, updated to 18.10, chased at 18.20 revised to 18.35, spoke to restaurant woman was very unhelpful "just eat not us" "it's Saturday" your a "long way away" arrived so late it now putting kids bed, and will ended up eating cold later. Disgraceful

We ordered a vegetable curry but we got sent a chicken curry. Food was a bit stale, have ordered from here in the past and has always been really good but this time it wasn't the best. Disappointed.

We love the food from Shah Zahan but today everything was overly salty, especially the Tarka Dahl which was almost inedibly salty! Just a one off though I'm sure as everything is usually great 😃

Food good quality as expected.

Arrived early with lovely friendly driver. Great pilau rice and delicious vindaloo and proper creamy tikka masala, king prawns were very small but fresh and sweet and could have done with a few more. Over all excellent.

Restaurant must have been busy. Called expected delivery time to be told my order was ready but they were waiting for a driver .. it arrived 30 mins after that phone call so food was Luke warm . Very disappointed!

2hrs after ordering food arrived dripping with grease aso bad the bag fell apart then no onion bhajis called while dishing up to inform not helpful at all. And found rice was cold as well as the nan bread. 2hrs I could have made hot food myself and it wouldn't have parts missing

Fantastic food full off flavours

Generally the food was really good. I had a king prawn dish and they were beautifully cooked and very succulent. The rice was also as good as you would want it, no complaints there. The curry sauces were excellent, my jalfrezi had the perfect kick to it for my taste. The only issue was the ‘meat’ , which we assume was lamb, in my son’s Bhuna. Half of the ‘meat’ was inedible gristle and fat. Now, I fully appreciate that lamb is a fatty meat but there really needs to be more care taken in the preparation. This is actually a common problem with Indian restaurants and takeaways. There is only one establishment in this area that you are almost guaranteed beautifully tender lean lamb when you order and many of you will have had the pleasure of eating food from this place and that’s the Ali Tandoori on Magdalen Street. My suggestion to the Shah Zahan is, if they can do it, I’m sure you can. Just take an extra few minutes prep time? Because everything else was spot on. Unfortunately the Ali have stopped delivering to our area now the pandemic is easing so that’s why we tried the Shah. Do we give it another chance or do we just collect from Magdalen Street? Hmmmm…..need to think about that next time we want one.

Very poor service ordered over two hours ago! Rang the restaurant for them to say it’s on the way with no new ETA. I won’t be ordering again i suggest you don’t either

Delicious food, worth the wait.

The food arrived 30 minutes early and not everyone was home in time, so it was a little cold. But, the food was excellent.

Driver refused to leave his car because it was raining. So didn't accept it.

Overall, great food & delivery. Everything well packaged, etc. Delivery driver dealt well with the difficult parking situation on the road. One dish delivered was chicken instead of lamb, and the saag aloo was a bit basic.

What they don’t know about keeping chicken moist, tender and delicious! Delightful. The spices were fresh and obviously prepared in the restaurant not taken from some prepackaged mix. My only criticism (& quite an amazingly odd one), the portions were huge. We got the meal for 2 and could have easily fed 4. Yum.

We ordered several items, when they were delivered the main part of the meal was missing (2 chicken kormas) we telephoned the restaurant and informed them, the guys said I saw them packing the order, we repeated that the food was missing , then the guy said can you collect(not in a helpful way) we said no which was why we preferred and paid for delivery, then he said (unhelpfully) it will take about an hour to deliver? So we were then said no thanks and asked for a refund, he just said via a helpful lady you will have to speak with just eat!, overall they weren’t interested in helping and didn’t care , avoid this restaurant if you can, we have used spice of India for years and never had a problem,

Never had a problem with food or delivery always been excellent. Tonight, Saturday, time and strange goings on in the world means not what we expected, but still delivered good food

First time ordering from here and it exceeded expectations. Delivery driver really nice (arrived a bit earlier than estimated which was a bonus but had it been a little late, it would've been worth it!). Food was packaged well. It was nice and hot. Can tell it was all cooked fresh to order. The chicken tikka masala was delicious! Also had yummy onion bhaji, samosa and two types of naan. Portion sizes perfect. No grease at all. Loads of flavour. Highly recommended! This will definitely be the Indian takeaway of choice from now on!

Order was incorrect - no keema naan and the naan we received in its place tasted like a bag of sugar had been dumped on top.
