Seven Seas in Rotherham

Called in 17th Feb around 18:25. Stood in the queue, took one look at the small, dry, scabby looking fish they had waiting and went somewhere else.

My new hate generally is been spoke to aggressively or shouted at . This place customer service is 0 'what u wanting ' like in the most pissed off manner ever !! If you don't want to serve people in a nice manner ! Go work were you don't have to deal face to face ! Whilst serving shouting at pick up drivers what number ! What number ? Jezzzz felt like Please may I order without feelin like am asking for a kidney . Then there's salting the meal but am not tryin to conduct a Séance and bring back the dead . Not for me this place and first time visitor will stick to traveling down to stag least you get a welcome mabey a cheeky smile 😃 lighten up Karen the worlds gone mad 😠

Very disappointed, fish wasn't good and 70% batter, had fish and chips from there about 8 months ago and was very disappointed, thought I'd try it again but I won't be going again, Feel like I've just thrown over £20 in the bin

Hit and miss, had 3 meala here as take out, 1st one disappointing, 2nd one lovely and 3rd on not nice, i bought a sausage in batter and it had that old oil taste to it, that said its not bad either just think some minor improvements could be made to make it a good chippy, it wasnt cheap but then chippies dont seem to be anymore

Was so impressed that I told them that we'd be back, in a non threatening Terminator style, even though Arnie nicked my style, for those films, but never got his hands on the motorcycle I never had! Anyway, the proof is in the pudding, or maybe the chips, and we have been back... Enuff said?

Not the best experience and the guys behind bar was not interested to talk about it so won’t be returning

Ordered fish and chips large cod x 2 and 2 x mushy peas ....only received 2 fish ADVERT MISLEADING 💯 disgusted on ringing I was told that you had to order chips separately and they don't do then together as a meal advert clearly states fish and chips large haddock !!! £23.00 I paid for 2 fish and 2 pots of peas BEWARE I complained and got nowhere absolute rob dogs !!!!!!

Went here last week an hour before closing, was waved at to my car to go away as no food, went today weds lunch time, chips were hard and like scraps, worse chips I’ve had , ever! I will never return! Never use to be like this here !

Well. What a proper nice chippy. They sell a wide variety of tasty Kebabs, I had a chicken mixed kebabs. Absolutely delicious. Well done to the hard working staff here.

These were the worst fish and chips we have ever had, cold and undercooked do not waste your money plenty of local chippies much better. This used to be a good ecperience take away do mot know whst has gone wrong. Sorry Seven Seas

Love this place. Some recent menu changes since I last came but as goodnas ever. Always hot. Expressed a preference towards card over cash which I found odd. Thankfully they DO still accept cash though or I'd have been up the creek

Don't know what happened but fish no where near as it usually is.. must have been an of day for staff.. plenty of talking but not work

Why don't the owners, take a look at these reviews, and see that they are doing something seriously wrong. Used to be a fabulous place, but definitely isn't now. Used to go every week without fail, but not anymore

Friday teatime 6 ish - bought for my parents 1 large fish, 2 chips and 2 small peas cost just over £14. The chips looked and tasted as though they were left overs warmed up and the fish tasted terrible. The majority of the whole meal was thrown away. The food in this takeaway is inconsistent you cannot guarantee a tasty meal or value for money. Very disappointed. Will not return or recommend.

Called for fish chips and pease. Cod did not taste like cod it must have been sat their for hours batter uneatable. Chips white pease runny. Would not recommend. I put it all in the bin. Tried to ring to ask if that is normal no answer. Very disappointed 😥

Rip off Last visit to this shambles . Ordered large Cod Server requested from frier as order on entry. Didnt catch what he said but outcome was that all the cod in cabinet were large. No medium ones available ,Really ?? Top and bottom line is couldnt be bothered to cook one. The large cod was actually smaller than the small haddock served with the set meal. Ordered large peas , decided to check bag on way back home , no peas had to turn back to collect. At least it will save me travel in future , back to a decent chippy fpr me @ Fishking or Fiveways where VFM is a given. Pity as this used to be the best for miles around. Had to give 1 star as unable to leave blank. Not sure who owns this since Andrew sold out but they need to get a grip.

The worst fish and chip we've ever had. Greasy, tasted old and my fish had a worm in it. After that the meal got binned. Spent £20.00 Biggest waste of money ever. Will not be going back again

The food we had was absolutely gorgeous. Really fresh and definitely good value for money. Very friendly staff too will definitely be going again!

Don’t no if this has changed owners recently but food terrible fish shocking been going to this place many years and now ruined but people who don’t know how to cook fish and chips will not be going ever again

Can’t believe how these are in business!! First of all, the online ordering system was not working and charged my card twice and said I might have to wait 7 days for a refund!! After placing our order inside, the girl at the till made a rude comment and said ‘that’s an expensive order’ despite the order being £25 for 2 people when online it said it would be £20 for the same order. We were charged for a large fish instead of regular and the staff did not know what they were doing. Customer service was lacking massively. Very unorganised environment to say the least. Absolutely disgusting fish. Still had the skin on, had stale batter and tasted vile. Will not be returning!!

Not nice. Giant haddock was small, very greasy batter and only just cooked. Chips not nice too. For 60 years they've been lovely, I was looking forward to a nice meal with husband as we always share our haddock and chips. It has also gone up in price. The batter had been changed and the oil for the worst. Very disappointed. Previous owners always took pride in what was being served right from the early 60s.

Called today 1/5/23 for a take out order. When I arrived I found that I had forgotten my bank card so they took my order of fish and chips large sausage small peas and gravy and actually wrote the order down in front of me. I returned and picked my order up. On getting back home I found the smallest fish in the world, No sausage and curry instead of gravy. £16 summat for half a order wrong and the chips was dry and hard and the fish meat was dry, needless to say I’ll Never use this chippy again DISGUSTING !!!

Had fish and chips last night from the takeaway, absolutely disgusting and will never be coming back, chips were freezing, fish under cooked and service took forever. Massively over priced.

Very disappointing. Stale chips, tasteless fish with soggy batter. Use to be lovely. Not sure what oil they're using but it doesn't have a nice taste 😏

Went tonight food freezing to say the leat only live down the road and the attitude of the server JODIE absolutely disgusting gave change in tens and twenty peaces which was almost a fivers worth NEEDS DIFFERENT STAFF WHAT ACTUALLY NO HOW TO DEAL WITH CUSTOMERS!!!! Won't be returning could not even get the order right and then to be rudley told to stand at back if cue even though rest of the order in the car

Service is tcame in ordered food people couldn’t understand English for some reason, managed to mess order up twice and then gave my fish to someone else that came and ordered after me. Please for the love of god get someone who has more brain cells behind your fish bar, please also make sure they can understand that when I’m asking for “fish” doesn’t mean I’m waiting for a fish I want it now not after someone else comes in and takes the fish I just ordered Literally difficult

Went last week, never again. I think it's changed hands, again? The people cooking/serving obviously had no idea what they were doing. She was dressed in outdoor clothes, body warmer with hood...cooking! He was similar. Not nice, not hygienic. Whats happened to the white chef clothing??? The batter on my fish was greasy and soft. When I got home and unwrappedby the fish and chips, all the soft batter was stuck to the paper. So, I had fish with no batter. Chips were hard and dry. The oil they were cooking in smelled stale. Complete waste of £10. The food at this takeaway has always been good but not anymore. What's happened?? Please tell me this was a one off!!!

Fish was better today after several weeks of being disappointing.

Stated as open on Google Maps but was closed, owners should have updated their opening hours on Google Maps. Poor social media skill.

Wasn't the best fish and chips for the price the fish never tasted right and was stuck to the paper and all soggy The staff where all looking miserable the atmosphere was very icy

These people don’t understand what wrapping things separately means. Fish was wrapped with test of food despite us explicitly asking for it to be separate. Hence fish oils and juices all over the chips and rest of food. Disgusting and dripping in oil. Ruined my dinner, will not go here ever again!

This was my first time I have been to the seven seas restaurant, and I wasn't disappointed. The food is cooked fresh and is amazing and tasty. Staff are also polite and friendly. I would highly recommend anyone to visit.

Ordered a delivery via just eat. Items were missing off my order and when i phoned to ask for them to come, i was told that that was not possible to sort out and i had no choice but to go through the refund process with just eat. This was not a just eat mistake, it was a seven seas mistake, and i would have appreciated some effort into sorting it out. They were also rude and unhelpful on the phone, and totally not bothered about fixing their mistake or in providing any kind of decent customer service.

The service with a smile and absolutely amazing fish and chips a lovely evening out

Generally slow service due to prioritising Just Eat orders etc (Staff don’t make eye contact despite a restless queue) Portion size is a lottery, sometimes so little that it’s offensive… curry sauce is treat like liquid gold! Quality of chips never been the same since Tony went onto bigger and better fryers.

Takeaway haddock and cod - absolutely superb. Freshly cooked and the batter crispness was just perfect.

I did enjoy the Fish and Chips but they weren't quite the standard this shop used to have. The quality of the cod wasn't what it used to be and the mushy peas have gone a very dark green ..I know that fish and chip shops are facing challenges on price and availability but this shop has charged top whack for some time,I don't mind paying that for a top quality meal..but it fell a little short.

Just average food. Was told it was best chippy in area. Visited for first time and was very disappointed with taste. I expect the chips to be amazing (bit of a given in my eyes for a decent chippy). Sorry but are very bland and soggy. Gravy was also tasteless. Pie, well its a pukka so it is what it is. Didn't even ask for I wanted S&V. Geez man, why would you forget a basic like that? This is a chippy that's meant to stick to the basics and get them right as they don't do kebabs etc. Big fail on that part. Sorry fellas but you have some work to do before I visit again. I was starving and just couldn't finish due to poor quality. King Cod at Sunnyside and Stag make you look like amateurs.

Food is lovely, however is usually busy and service is quite slow. If you don't mind the wait, it'd definitely worth it!

Website said this restaurant was open but when we arrived tonight it was closed. We therefore bought fish & chips to take home - worst we've had in a long time. Fish were dried up and chips were rubbish.

A very clean and presented fish and chip restaurant. Had a takeaway the other night and my wife & i really enjoyed our meal. We had fc's and curry on a tray and sat in the car. They were red hot to the last mouthful, cooked to perfection and we would definitely be returning. They have a great selection and you are really spoilt for choice once you enter the premises. Friendly staff and depending on what time you visit, there is usually a queue which tells me it is worth the wait and another visit when we are in the area.

Unfortunately not to the usual high standard. I've waxed lyrical about the Seven Seas and it's previous incarnation XL Fisheries. These two fine establishments have given me and my belly many years of fabulous memories and great food. So much so that when I moved to Sheffield I still continued my patronage, even with a 20 journey! Today I'm in mourning along with my family. The unthinkable has happened and been confirmed - "Under New Management" - words to strike fear into any heart. We'd suspected for a while things just weren't quite right. Quality of the batter not as good, potatoes not quite as fluffy and varying quality of nuggets. Not seen Theo for ages and only one person serving in the takeaway despite bring rammed. All we can say is thank you Theo (and Andy previously). You made us happy and now we're very sad. Our grief is real and unrelenting. World leading is an often abused phrase (specially Tories), but you really were. A gold standard for others to aspire to. Where else would you drive home from Whitby and drop in at Wickersley for fish and chips? Condemned, as we are, to find a chippy half as good - not easy around here. The end of an era is upon us. The one glimpse of an upside being I might lose a few pounds!! The King is dead, long live the King.

Had fish and chips takeaway on Sunday evening. Not the best but it was very quiet so probably had been sat there a while. Will revisit at a busier time.

Omg my partner hasn't been there in 40 years my first time there ,super friendly staff the haddock was to die for same with the chips and curry sauce . We will be back for the haggis very soon . I'm trying the whole fried menu xxxx

Alas, the Seven Seas restaurant has lost its sparkle under “new management”. Slow service, as only one beleaguered waiter; the dish we ordered wasn’t what we expected, even though we asked about the menu before booking; and we were only brought one of them, even though we specifically asked for two! Hopefully, management will reflect on this review.

Very pleasant and comfortable environment. Courteous staff and excellent food. Highly recommend.

Visited the other week, and I have to say I didn't have a great experience due to one staff member. She was very young, only looked about 17. Felt very unwelcomed, she was very rude and was showing poor customer service. Was fairly disappointed when my meal arrived, turned up cold. In order to improve, I feel this restaurant needs to start employing more experienced staff members

Very good Fish and Chip dinner though at a premium price. The Seafood platter looked good that was served near us.

The BEST Fish n Chip restaurant to be found. Had something from the new menu, and it was amazing. This place consistently beats Whitby's by a country mile every time.

Ordered a jacket potato and it was microwaved it was hard couldn't chew it and the put cheese on befire beans and it looked like sick and wasnt nice wont go again
