The Seven Dials area was originally laid out in the early 1690's in a series of triangles in order to maximize the number of rental houses that could be built in hopes of attracting wealthy clientele and complement, if not compete, with the Covent Garden Piazza development. The Sundial Pillar, completed in 1694, was its centrepiece. Things didn't work out as planned and while the area has had a varied past, it is now a lively area of shopping, dining and theatre. When you're in the Covent Garden's area, walk over and check out Seven Dials. (Christmas is one of its special times.) See if you can actually tell the time via the sun dials.

Stayed in a hotel here. Great location for walking around the west end. Covent Garden, Tottenham Court Roas and Leicester Square tubes nearby.

I recently stayed at the Radisson Blu, Mercer Street, which is at the centre of the Seven Dials area of London. The area is well cared for and is full of vibrant individual shops and restaurants. The Seven Dials almost has an independent, village-like atmosphere to it, yet is situated close to Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and lots of other tourist areas, all within walking distance.

A crazy intersection where 7 streets converge. Each street is worth exploring as each has it's own mix of shops, restaurants and bars.Amazingly it is hidden away just a few blocks from Covent Garden tube station.

Seven Dials is one of my favourite places for relaxing in London - mainly as it's hidden away from tourists. I love the fairy lights and the amazing wine bars and restaurants.

7 dials although still associated with covent garden is nothing of the sort. You wont find loads of tourists walking annoyingly slowly taking pictures of street performers. Instead it is filled with a number of v cool independent shops, bars and restaurants as well as hosting a number of great theatres with Matilda the most standout. Reminds me of a Barcelona back streets where you keep finding really cool shops you weren't expecting. There is also a really good selection of menswear which makes a nice change.

Shame it has closed down recently. Nice staff and delicious sushi dishes. It seems a pizza restaurant is coming to replace it. Too bad
