Characterful little cafe with a small interior eating area and a few tables al fresco but offering shelter from the rain. Close to the Sett Valley Trail walking route in the beautiful High Peak. We had “Ambler’s Breakfasts” but without beans or hash browns and they kindly substituted an extra sausage instead. The food was good, the service very friendly and prompt. It wasn’t the cheapest breakfast in the world but we thought it was great value and would definitely recommend.

This review was deleted, which proves that basically Tripadvisor is in hoc with the restaurant owners and bad reviews aren’t allowed. So here goes again- Genuinely, my worst cafe experience ever in the UK. I don’t often write reviews but was so incensed, I have been compelled to do so. I and an friend arrived drenched and cold in this ridiculous place, where when ordering you can’t actually see the person behind the counter as they have stacked all their cakes etc on the counter blocking your view. So you basically talk to a cake and hope that the person behind can hear you. But this seems to be exactly what they want, as they clearly hate customers and wouldn’t went to look at them. In our case, the lady grunted an acknowledgment as i spoke to the cake and clearly had not been well schooled at the School of Charm. Her ridiculously over priced cakes and cup of teas was handed over the top of all the other items on the counter and then we decided that they these people were so unpleasant that we best take it outside to the seating area. After finishing, we came back in with the empty cups and packaging and asked if she could take them. Unbelievably, the angry woman behind the counter said ‘There is a bin up the hill, put in there’. Please bear in mind it was chucking it down and we looked for the bin, couldn’t find it and then came back in and put it back on the over crowded counter. At which, point the lady grunted her disapproval and we left. Do not visit this place unless you enjoy punishment and rudeness.

We are holidaying in Hayfield and walked along the trail to this cafe. It was recommended by a couple we met whilst walking and also another solo walker. We were a bit early to have anything to eat so just had coffees…probably one of the nicest coffees we have had. The food that was being brought out for other customers looked great. The staff were all helpful and the place just seemed to have a lovely and friendly atmosphere. We hope to return for more than just drinks within the week.

We had a very tasty lunch with two vegetarian pies plus extras like veg gravy and potato dauphinoise. Our family of four was well fed. Service was quick and the food tasty. The heart shaped shortbread biscuits and the peanut butter slice with a special name i can't recall now were delicious treats we took home for later. We were surprised because from the outside we didn't expect much more than a sandwich or something light. But this was a hearty and tasty lunch after a walk along the Sett Valley Trail The owner was very kind and talked with us even though they were busy. Its small inside and you might feel cramped if a lot of people turn up to order for take away or to eat outside. But don't let that put you off.. The cafe sources food from nearby businesses and suppliers, so i guess it would work more for you if you like trying out what's local to a place than if you are after standard fair from big name.

We stopped off for lunch whilst walking the Sett Valley Trail from New Mills to Hayfield, and waited a few minutes for one of the few outdoor tables (it was quite busy on a nice Sunday afternoon). There is a very wide choice of menu and our lunch was very tasty, with good portions and reasonably priced. It is worth noting that this cafe shuts at 2pm so make sure you arrive in time! My only grumble was that we were asked to take all the packaging that the food had been served in, for Covid safety reasons. I think a business should dispose of the rubbish it generates, not burden nearby bins (or worse, litter in the countryside) and a simple sack for customers to place rubbish in would not present a risk to staff.

The coffee now comes from local roasters, Peak Bean, which makes for a very good double espresso indeed. Recently visited with friends from the West Country, who were appropriately charmed... probably the poshest oakcake l’ve ever had, works well with smoked salmon! Excellent chocolate cake as well. Great coffee, cakes and location especially if walking near Hayfield. A pleasant, easy walk along a disused railway line, about a mile from Hayfield where the Pennine Bridleway meets a minor road at Birch Vale.

I visited this place on a cold but sunny Sunday lunch time during a walk from New Mills to Hayfield and back. The walk itself was great and the Sett Valley Cafe is perfectly positioned for some refreshments along the way. This is a very dog friendly establishment so four legged friends are made to feel welcome.

The place is closed and up for sale. A shame since it looked promising. Hope someone else takes it on and makes it a success.

Worth a slight detour to see what's on the ever-changing menu. We've been several times and the food and service never disappoints. Highly recommended stop off for brunch, lunch and mid-afternoon tea. The courgette and pistachio cake was to die for!

What a wonderful little place; a gem as others have said. It is like a tardis, in that it is bigger than it looks, but is still very bijou! A few tables squeezed inside, which is a lovely shabby-chic, complete with fresh flowers on the table. A couple of toys and colouring pencils in one corner. Typical cafe-type menu, with added specials which give this place an edge. Boys loved their meals, and my panini was a well-filled joy-to-behold! As for the cakes....what a delightful and delicious looking range; and tasted as good as they looked (I went back for seconds!). Reasonable prices, pleasant, friendly and helpful staff; we will be back again....it's worth a detour. Note that they do NOT take plastic.

There are many cafes in Hope to choose from, especially on a bank holiday but the best one has got to be the Courtyard Cafe. Tucked away a little off the main street, it's quiet allowing you to hear your conversations but the absolute best thing are the chips! The chip butties are amazing! The chips are crisp and properly sized! Looking around all food we saw looked really good. Staff were so lovely and clearly the local's favourite spot to come to. An excellent cafe to come to after a great walk from Hope. Can't wait to come back to Courtyard and eat more chips!

Lubens is always a lovely experience! We booked a table early in the evening prior to visiting the Opera House which is only about five minutes walk away. We've eaten there previously so were confident the food would be excellent! We weren't disappointed it was as good as ever. We both had a starter then had a vegi sharing platter which was very well presented and tasty. I finished off the meal with a lovely desert. We had a couple of beers and a bottle of wine and the whole thing was under £80 which, for the quality of the meal, we thought was very good value for money. The restaurant has a lovely look and feel and draws you in.
