Sergio's in Cheshire West and Chester

Very good food served with great panache by "Sergio" in a busy happy atmosphere. A very enjoyable Italian home cooked meal.

We have been here a few times over the years, the last time was about 7 years ago. We were so looking forward to coming back here but unfortunately wish we had booked a different restaurant . Food was really not that good , service was not great either. We felt rushed and processed. We are vegetarian so we always feel that choice is limited but to be fair there was an ok choice of vegetarian. Maybe we just were unlucky in choice as what we chose we felt was rather bland. I had Brushetta but it was very tasteless and not worth the money. My husband had the mushrooms which I also tasted and I’ve got to say were the worst mushrooms I’ve ever tasted. On this note next time in Chester we will not be booking into here.

Lovely authentic Italian, we stumbled across this restaurant when in Chester to celebrate my son’s graduation. We had a mixture of pizzas and pastas and they were all delicious, the cheesy garlic bread was amazing as was the Negroni 😊

We visited here on a Sunday evening. When we got there, staff were friendly and told us it was a 10 minute wait, which we didn't mind. We had a look at the menu, and it looked amazing! Unfortunately, the food was not. we ordered Arancini balls and bruschetta to start. The bruschetta wasn't too bad and had some taste, but the Arancini balls were tasteless. For our main I had a pasta dish and my boyfriend had calzone both Unfortunately were bland and had no taste to them. The chicken in the pasta looked like it'd been cooked a while ago as it was cubed and did not look fresh. We asked for the bill. I am normally a big tipper but the food nor service was anything special, as we went to pay i looked at the bill and noticed a service charge had already been added on which i queried to be taken off. The waiter was not happy about this and as we left all the staff Ignored us. I do understand to tip, but it wasn't deserved at all. we would not return !

Great restaurant. Good choice of Italian dishes. We thought best and booked a table online even though our visit was a Monday night. Good job! The restaurant was very busy which we were pleased to see. 1. That busy = good food 2. That busy on a Monday = owners are doing something right. The staff were very attentive, one of our party has food intolerances that was no issue. They’re meal choice was checked and confirmed ok - this was no hassle for them. Meals were very tasty and reasonably priced. Would return again with no hesitation.

Excellent lunch menu , perfect service, happy smiling staff and the food quality made this the perfect lunch on our last day in Chester.

Sergio is the perfect place for a one-on-one dinner date; the interior is cozy and the food is delicious. The seafood risotto, served with mussels and scallops, was savory and filling - my partner had a ricotta and mushroom pizza, which had a pleasantly crispy crust. We were overcharged for our meal, which we found out about later in the evening when an employee called to offer us a £25 voucher. Normally we'd prefer an actual cash refund, but the food was so excellent we went for it again the week after. For our second week, we had a (steeply discounted) lasagna / penne arrabiata. The lasagna was decadent, with a rich meaty bolognese and crispy mozzarella. The arrabiata sauce was sharp and spicy, and we both happily cleaned our plates, all sins forgiven regarding last week's overinflated bill. Other than being seated awkwardly close next to a large group on our first outing, I can't think of anything bad to say about Sergio. The food was excellent and the decor was warm and inviting, so I'll definitely be coming back soon.

We had high hopes after reading the reviews for this restaurant. However the food was just plain bad and the menu enormous, which is never a good sign. We ordered bruschetta to start and it was dry, lacking olive oil and without any seasoning whatsoever. The mains were worse! The monk fish was dry too and the sauce seemed like it came from a jar. The pasta with chilli and prawns was bland and undercooked (from frozen too.) The only good things were the Prosecco and our lovely waitress. Perhaps make the menu smaller so you can have time to cook authentic, fresh Italian cuisine.

Sorry but the food was awful. Complete let down by the frozen food, which was overpowered by tomato sauce. Tasteless! The sauce not nice thing about it was the wine and the waiter staff.

Brilliant restaurant staff were amazing all the food was good really enjoyed our night. They even brought me a cake out with a candle and sang happy birthday

Worst dining experience in a long time. Booked in advance (group of 6). Arrived on time but still had to wait a while for our table - fair enough, they were very busy. Had to choose our food (and pay a deposit) when making the initial booking (???) but then still had to go through the order with the waitress. Waited an hour for our meals which were not hot enough ... luke warm at best. One meal missed off the order so a further wait. Poor ingredients. Lack of service at the table ... i.e. drinks offer. They knocked quite a bit off the final bill but we'd rather pay the full amount and have an enjoyable meal. Would never go back.

Best food in Chester! Everything was delicious and hot and came out in good time. Book if you want a table as it’s very busy. It’s vibrant and noisy but that added to our experience!

Poor quality food. Certainly a case of style over substance. Waiter didn’t think to mention two of the meals we ordered didn’t come with any accompaniments and the menu wasn’t clear. Therefore I had chicken in a sauce and nothing else with it. Pizza was too doughy and the tuna looked like it had previously been frozen and tasted awful. Very very grey. Better Italian restaurants in Chester. A busy restaurant doesn’t mean a good restaurant.

Family-owned Italian restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the veggie calzone, and pepperoni pizza. Best Italian we’ve ever had. You can really tell the family takes pride in their food. The restaurant was beautiful. Would recommend it to all. Great prices. Staff were friendly and received food in a reasonable time.

Fantastic Italian restaurant right near the cathedral. We received a lovely welcome, followed by great food and service. The place has a super atmosphere busy but they have time for everyone.

Had a night out with friends and cannot believe I have never been to this restaurant tucked away near the cathedral. The decor was lovely and the atmosphere very welcoming. The food portions were definately not stingy and a large selection of choices. What made the evening so much more special was our waiter Danny - he was engaging and really interesting in making sure his customers had a memorable time. Danny looked after us as if we were family. He was friendly, making recommendations and just took service to another level. We will most definately be coming back - thank you Danny for your authentic 5***** service

Poor service, two hours to have two courses! Our waiter was quite frankly totally inefficient and spent most of the time chatting to a table full of women and even gave them free dessert and coffees! Plates for starters weren'tp removed before the mains arrived on some tables. Food was average. Had far better Italian meals.

Saw the reviews on this place, they weren’t wrong. A busy, vibrant, friendly restaurant that makes you feel like you are in Italy. The staff are really friendly and welcoming,the service was fast and efficient and the food was excellent. Given how busy it was I thought courses would be slower in coming out, but they were a well oiled machine. Each course came in good time and was all excellent quality. A small but lovely incident, my wife dropped an important receipt for an item I bought. The restaurant contacted us because they were concerned it was important ( it was) And we went and retrieved it the next day….thank you again.

I'll keep it short, all I've got to say about this restaurant, the staff and the food is that everything was absolutely fantastic!! The restaurant was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious... I can't wait to go again.

Someone pointed us toward this little gem and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was very good quality, with some unusual options eg I enjoyed a baked onion starter. My pasta dish was very tasty and my wife enjoyed her fish. The service was very good, though they seemed a bit too busy at times. We would certainly return.

What a Gem! Found this restaurant when walking around the town, hidden away near the Cathedral, looked lovely from the outside and so decided to book for our last night in Chester. So glad we did Dario along with all the staff were so welcoming and the food was amazing! We shared an antipasti of meat to start and asked to add melon which was not a problem and then both went for a pizza and salad washed down with the House White! If you love Italian food this a must!!

The staff are polite enough but twice now I have been disappointed by the food. On the first occasion on 2023 I wa swlft waiting for my food while everyone else ate there's, whe I received my canneloni it left much ro be desired. On this second trip, the ambience e was terrible, loud drunken people discussing all manner of inappropriate things at the top of their lungs, genitals and later sexual abuse, bad language etc and yet no member of staff intervened. The main reason for this negative review though is the ridiculous prices on the menu especially for wine or anything meat based. I ordered a sirloin steak rare, when I received it it was tiny, certainly not £23.99 worth, and it was far from rare I left the restaurant feeling I had wasted my evening, money and not enjoyed a family birthday meal. It is hands down the worst steak I have ever been served.

Visited with my wife for a special anniversary meal. What a beautiful genuine Italian restaurant which reminded me of holidays I have spent in Italy. The genuine Italian vibe allows you to truly enjoy your meal in a relaxed, wonderful way. Just for the negative reviewers, this is not fast food and not being rushed or constantly bothered is a pleasant surprise. The food and wine were amazing. We started with a Negroni aperitif , a lovely way to get the taste buds tingling, followed by some beautiful bruchetta with sweet tomotoes and garlic. We finished with the Scampi Provencale and Sergios special Zuppa di Pesca. The whole meal was exceptional. We enjoyed the meal with a lovely bottle of the house white wine. We were seated near the kitchen serving pass, and the site and smells of all the wonderful food being served made for a really special evening. My tip book ahead, the place gets very busy. Don't expect fast food, it's not McDs it's a genuin Italion restaurant. Thank you for giving my wife and I such a wonderful meal and evening. Yes, we will be visiting again.

Real mixed bag tonight. Visiting from Brighton for a few days and my son is always game for an Italian. Chose Sergios based on the star rating. We arrived around 5.30pm and the place was about half full which we took as a good sign. Overall the service was really slow, as the night went on and got busier, the waiting staff just couldn't cope. Our drinks only arrived with our starters. My son had an apple juice, which had clearly been watered down -apparent by sight and taste. We asked to change and was told it was just the ice; however the replenished drink was much better. House wine drinkable. Starters OK. Mains - Arrabiatta pasta was delicious, garlicky and hot. The pizzas were OK, but the base a bit underdone and too much topping in my opinion. Pizza didnt come with the additional topping we had asked for. After 30 mins of waiting for plates to be cleared, we finally got the chance to ask for menus for pudding. After another 20 mins of waiting and no more wine to be drunk or sign of any waiter to refresh drinks, we called it a night. Sadly, we felt we had to remove the service charge; and were made to feel guilty about it. Nice restaurant and atmosphere but too few staff to cope with the numbers and food for us was average.

Wonderful food, brilliant staff. Could not fault anything. Booking recommended. We went on a Monday night, and there weren't many tables left by 7.30pm. We will return soon.

Sergios has its charm though if you are looking for great Italian food there are many better options in Chester. The atmosphere is busy and has a dated yet authentic feel to it. Service was on the poor side, with things being forgotten, drinks never arriving yet still appearing on the bill etc. I can let this slide for good food, though I have to say I was disappointed. Overall on par with what you'd get in Frankies and Bennies or Bella Italia, the food was across the board OK but nothing special, overall tasted a little bland and nothing felt fresh. Chester now has some great Italian restaurants where you can get much more authentic and fresh Pasta, better Pizzas, better atmosphere and service etc. so I will not be returning.

I have never given any place a 1 star review, if there was an option for 0 I would give it. We booked a table for 8 o'clock and arrived at 8 o'clock, it was so busy, we were advised to sit and down take a seat as they were running behind, ok no problem. 10 minutes later 2 more couples came in who were seated straight away obviously known by the manager as he was hugging and kissing them. 40 minutes later many more couples came in and were seated, He kept saying your table is over there in the corner, just waiting to get it sorted. Next minute someone else had seated another couple at this said table. We were never offered a drink, we had to ask. At 8.40 he came over and said just waiting for your table and started to take our order. I said im sorry but I would prefer to wait till we get a table to order food, didnt want to order and then have our food thrown at us straight away. Another lady came over with a garlic bread complimentary and was very apologetic. We eventually got seated in the far corner of the restaurant, squashed in amongst other tables, with no privacy at all. The manager took our order and food came out within minutes, Calamari, which was frozen, didnt touch it, Sardine starter which wasn't edible, the only edible course was melon and parma ham ( well you cant go wrong with this) We asked for a bottle of red wine, the young lad had no idea what we were talking about and we didnt get it. My advice to this place is to book only the amount of people you have place for and done over book, we actually walked out and didnt wait for our mains. Not sure how anyone can give this place a 5 star.

My bf and I decided to try this family run restaurant as we were going to Chester for a night out. It's a lovely little restaurant, staff were very welcoming and very attentive too. We liked the fact it was a small family run restaurant, and the decor gave us the feeling you could have been Italy, not Chester. When we arrived at 6 pm, it wasn't very busy. However, within 30 mins of being there, the room was packed! We didn't have to wait too long for our order considering the number of people there. The pizzas we ordered were big and fresh, one of the best we've ever had, and the puddings were so nice and a good size too. The waitress was lovely and helpful when it came to choosing a pudding as there were too many good ones to pick from. We are definitely going back to try some of the pasta dishes as they looked really nice, too. I wished we had taken some pictures, but we were just so hungry we dived straight in. If you love Italian food, then you'll love this place.
