Great quiet pub, didn't try food but the guys there are helpful, cheerful and polite

Came for Sunday roast. Was tasty, friendly staff. Lovely beer garden.

Lovely roast and an equally lovely environment with very friendly staff! They happily catered our request for a mix of beef and chicken and were very accommodating of us being late for our booking since it was quiet enough. First time coming since management changed and we were happily surprised with the quality.

Delicious freshly cooked English Breakfast this morning after a lovely dog walk at Marilyns Meadow. Home made bread for toast delicious, black pudding mushrooms tomatoes sausages bacon beans and excellent eggs with a cup of tea, outside in the fresh air sun shining delightful. Dog friendly and friendly staff

Food, not much choice as they had run out of most things on the menu. Staff very nice and friendly considering what they had to deal with...... Lovely surroundings but very badly managed

Had the most delicious meal tonight, great portion sizes and great value for money. Staff were all very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Will definitely be back and recommend to others.

Free WiFi, service from Andy and the chefs was amazing and friendly felt like my custom was valued. We went for breakfast on the Saturday it was quiet and I don't get why when the breakfast was tasty and loads of it on the plate 😋 I wish I got a picture of it but eas so hungry I couldn't wait

We visited Secret Garden twice this week, and it's a lovely place. There is plenty of space for the kids to play, and lots out outdoor seating. The food is great, especially their pizza, which is amazing. We went with a big group and were very well looked after. Shout out to the barman, James, who took great care of us.

Lovely pizza, served mid afternoon, friendly staff. Dog friendly. Sunny beer garden and well kept beer. Well worth a visit.

This was the first time iv been to Secret Garden was made ro feel welcome and atmosphere very relaxed.

Only went for a quick drink with our 3 dogs so sat outside in the garden by the road which was plain, boring and uninviting.

I met my friends here for a Sunday lunch, it was delicious we had the beef, my only criticism is I would have preferred my gravy to be served in a pot, as I don't like loads of gravy all over my vegetables. Apart from that, it's a lovely place, we got to meet some baby lambs running around in the play area, which was so sweet, sat outside enjoying the sunshine while eating. Staff were very friendly. Highly recommend.

We stumbled across this place with our kids, it’s not easy with 3 under four to find a place that can accommodate us. The staff bend over backwards for us. They had an enclosed area at the back which allowed our twins to toddle about safely. Our eldest loved the ducks and the lambs and the play area. Outside is also safe for little legs learning to walk! Our son tried two new things to eat, the girls ate all the food they were given. Perfect for a family, very friendly, excellent food, we did not feel rushed at any point We will be back. Thank you for having us :-)

Much improved since the new owners have taken over, a really positive local pub with super friendly new people. Love it

The chef didn’t turn up to work and we weren’t told this, even though we had booked in. When we arrived we were told that they had no food. Very inconvenient and inconsiderate. Had to scrap the day.

Service and staff are great...generally the place could do with a good clean..!! It doesn't take much to run a duster round to de cobweb etc and wipe table down....food was very basic, chips/ fries not nice!! Burger very plain lacking in cheese.But on plus side pizza was lovely. We got a complimentary pudding, the sticky toffee pudding was bland, and the chocolate brownies were very disappointing....on another plus side some of the the beer was great....

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in a pod in the garden which was a lovely change being outdoors . The tea was delicious with home made cakes. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful.

Good country pub. Friendly landlady, decent selection of beers. Good food and just the right size portions (we had the fish and chips, very good). Loved the mix of background music; took me back to the 80s. It was a little quiet for a Thursday evening but it didn't spoil our evening. It's worth a visit if staying locally.

Had a really nice time here on Saturday. Had a very generous and great value for money carbonara followed by a tasty cheesecake. Would recommend.

We are stayed locally and it was suggested we try here for food, and we are so glad we did. The food was great. Staff were friendly and accommodating and the venue is welcoming and quirky. Right up our street!!

Evening meal with family members visiting Hereford and staying nearby. Chosen bc it's dog friendly and had a good rep in past however I was so embarrassed, as this was a disaster from start to end and not a good representation of what's on offer in The Shire. The food was really very basic with limited options and the service was like Fawlty towers. Do not recommend at all. No menus given to start with when waiter actually surfaces asks are we ready to order... well we haven't been given a menu 🤣 ...a very long wait at bar in meantime, then a horrendous wait for food which did result in complimentary drinks but wrong drinks brought two times. Food was not good. Wine options bizarre. Then no tea or coffee available until they go to see if they have a kettle....and the waiter hadn't put food on the tab so a kerfuffle when it comes to leaving. Avoid

Absolute bargain meal, £10 for burger and a pint!! Burgers come fully loaded with a side of chips! The location is lovely and the staff was great.

Great venue, very clean, well-decorated. I attended their fortnightly open mic night. A varied and line-up of talent and a super atmosphere.

We attended an event to meet the Grinch on the 16th December. Our little one was really looking forward to it but sadly it was a complete shambles. On arrival staff were friendly but clueless to what the itinerary was. We were got told to go outside where everyone else was queuing. My little one loved meeting the grinch, I did feel for him as he had a wardrobe malfunction, he apologised as his nose kept coming off due to him having a cold. I do feel the setting could have been abit better. Also the decoration efforts were mediocre at best with two onions being deemed sufficient. There was no seating inside so we had to sit outside in the cold. I did ask staff if there were any more options in the way of seating and they kindly brought out some deckchairs. This wasn’t satisfactory for a children’s event knowing our little one was to have breakfast included in the price. At this point we had had enough and left by 10.45am, we went on to enjoy a breakfast at another independent establishment.

Was blown away by the friendly and efficient service. As if that wasn't enough the food was superb. I have eaten here a number of times and it never disappoints.

Staff are absolutely brilliant, top notch service and drinks all served with a smile. only thing that can fault this countryside pub is the fact that there is no other locations closer to town. Absolutely brilliant overall experience, once again staff were brilliant, i believe their names were Molly and Maisie. they received a hefty tip. Chicken curry is the best thing on the menu. Well done the not so secret gardens, will be returning.

Booked a table for 4pm. Ordered drinks at the bar. The white wine was room temp. Went through the menu and placed our order for burgers and a curry. 5 mins later told no burgers available, and no curry! How do you take bookings but not have the food on your menu! Unbelievable! Won’t be returning.

New ownership trying to make a quick buck. Took kids to visit the Grinch and what an absolute disaster. The Grinches nose was falling off throughout, the kids were given birthday gift bags and we were served cold coffee (could have been tea or nettlewater) from an urn. The pub itself has unbelievable potential but the Grinch experience they should be offering everyone their money back.

"Meet the Grinch" more like the new management want to make as much money as possible. The worst £30 (two children) I've spent to date. Allowing more people to book than you have space for is also shameful, having to sit in the garden in December without heaters or a gazebo?! The Christmas gift (if you can call it that) are in happy birthday bags. Lots of unhappy customers today, and people leaving without the children having the meal which was included in the price. Tea and coffee available which wasn't even warm and so unbelievably weak - another example of wanting to make as much money as possible. Awful experience - we will not be returning. Such a shame as we used to be regular customers.

Called past for Sunday lunch. Settled down in the snug four of us and the dog. Lovely log burner running. Very friendly staff and the best Sunday lunch I've had for a long time. Chatting to the chap in charge it appears the pub is being run by the wobbly beer company, selling their excellent beer. We will be back soon. Thanks very much.

Can’t fault the staff, venue or location, all pleasant. We had the lasagne and the bacon cheeseburger, the quality was really poor. The chips were uncooked, the burger was black throughout and tasted very cheap and was not worth 14 pounds. The lasagne was worse than ready meal lasagnes. If the food was better would be a real gem

Food isn't served Mondays so no review for that. Manager was really friendly, answered questions about the locals brews that they have on tap and let us try. Just started to open 7 days so very quiet on Monday night but fire on and felt cozy. Will definitely be back x

Lovely venue, well decorated and cosy. When we arrived, we got our drinks at the bar and went to the table. We sat there, but no one approached us, so we went to the bar and asked for a menu. They only had 1 menu left, so we had to share that between 7 of us. The menu was very limited (then even ran out of pizzas) - we had to go up to the bar to order drinks and food, as no one approached us. 2 of us had to wait for food, whilst the 5 other practically finished theirs. One person on the table ordered chicken curry, but questioned if it was vegetable as there was only 1 piece of chicken in the curry. When returned after being sent back, the chips were warm, but not cooked through. Food was ok, just not enough choices on the menu. Drinks were very limited, hardly had any, either didn’t sell it or ran out. Puddings were good. I will not be returning to this venue.

We attended a party and the service was very hit and miss as was the standard and quality of the food. Bar staff were selling bottles of beer that were meant to be given to guests for FREE! It seemed to take ages to be served at the (rather small) bar and there was a difference with the total cost of a round even though it was for the same drinks. Expensive and unenjoyable.

Just been for Sunday roast dinner and we all have been really disappointed I had mushrooms wellington but was over done I’ve asked to be without the honey carrots because I’m allergic to honey but it came with the carrots and rest of the family said the beef was very tuff to chew , the little one had children fish fingers with chips which the fish fingers was normal butter fish with bones in it they did change it afterwards but was kind of late as she didn’t want to eat Saying that they did refunded the bone fish fingers

Very disappointed. Afternoon tea with a vegetarian and dairy free option. Sandwiches were unappetising, bland and soggy. Was only offered jam for my scone and was told there was no dairy free alternative. Had to ask for things. Just for me, it's not worth the cost. However, saying that the meals that came out to other diners looked nice

I had a lovely Sunday lunch with my Mum. Great to see a vegetarian and vegan option but still a roast dinner. Even better that dogs are welcome, it always makes me smile to see them.

The steak was great and well priced, nice ale, friendly smiley service and a great setting. It’s a shame the weather didn’t match. Definitely worth getting out of the city centre for.

Revisited for Sunday dinner, the meal was great but I ordered a pork dinner and was brought a beef dinner. My Dad did say to the waitress and they offered to take back but I didn't want the thought of them messing with the dinner or having to wait any longer so I just ate it. Had a fantastic meal at The Secret Garden with my Dad during the Easter Weekend. I would definitely recommend if you would like some proper homemade food! Very generous portions, value for money!

Didn't even stay for food after booking a table. Menu was minimal, to say the least! The pint I had was horrendous, I couldn't drink it. I should have taken it back, but the whole thing just did not give good vibes. The people behind the bar even made a joke of how flat it was, the pipes must be filthy, you could taste it. So I certainly was not going to entertain eating the food. Shame as the setting is really nice. Not for me, and would not recommend

Really enjoyed the food. Had the curry on curry night so was even better value as it included a drink. Also included naan bread and pompadom. All the waiting staff were friendly and competent without being annoying. Will definitely visit again.

Paid extra to have a pod...table service. Very friendly staff who checked to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely worth the extra for special occasions. Food delicious, not cheapest but well worth it. Big field and play area for children. Got lost finding it but now we know where to go will be visiting again

I've been popping to the secret garden pretty often recently because they allow dogs in the snug, I shay's get a warm welcome and friendly service. The food is great and reasonably priced. Love the outside area as well!

Friendly staff , nice venue but a very disappointing vegan burger. Very dry and tasteless. Onion rings very greasy. Lacking thought/ other options . Would not go again for food unless menu change as can get lots more choice for veggie/vegan options and better qualify food elsewhere!

My husband, mum and I had Sunday lunch at The Secret Garden. The food was delicious, hot and very well presented. We had two roast pork and I tried the Beetroot and Sweet Potato vegetarian option which was superb. Mum and I had sticky toffee and pear with cream which was amazing and a generous portion. My husband had Lemon Cheesecake which he says was equally as good and an even more generousportion. The service was great. Just be aware that approximately 15% gratuity is automatically added to your bill which is not made clear anywhere else that we noticed beforehand. 😊

We had our works Christmas do here, the food was wonderful and the entertainment was brilliant, however unfortunately we were absolutely frozen, sitting in a marquee with ineffective heater's in minus 5 conditions wasn't brilliant, however I will definitely be back the summer 😅

First time here. We received a friendly welcome and it’s an attractive pub, but sadly the food just wasn’t good. The veggie burger looked like it was bought in from a budget wholesaler. I enjoy tastier and better quality food at Wetherspoons. An atmospheric pub like this with big gardens could have so much potential but the kitchen lets it down. We would come again but only got a drink. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Came for dinner earlier the food was terrible absolutely zero vitality. I had the chicken burger which was dry, the GF bread roll dry and hard! Really friendly place and nice atmosphere but the food was dire! Such a shame as nice pub and nice gardens and nice friendly staff.

Had a group booking for my step sons stag doo. Paid £15pp for buffet. Wasn’t enough food, dry sandwiches and had to ask for more food.poor service. Very disappointing and won’t be returning
