We stopped off here for lunch after a pretty disastrous trip across the water to Rothesay. We both have seen on a few occasions but only ever had a coffee until now. We both have Mac cheese, mines with bacon lardons topper and my husband with black pudding and both were absolutely delicious. It came with garlic bread and fries. We also got a side of onion rings. This with a soda and a lovely pot of tea came to £34 and it was worth every penny. In the menu it also says about the full breakfast which also sounds wonderful for only £10. I would take the trip out just to try this. I can’t praise the staff and place highly enough.

Fabulous evening had at McCaskie Butchers & Cafe ‘pop up’ steak night. Phenomenal service from the outset and throughout evening. Menu was fantastic with a varied selection of tempting dishes. Mark the cafe manager suggested a lovely red wine from the extensive selection and it was a perfect accompaniment to what was to come. Decided on shin of beef and spring rolls between us as starters and we were not disappointed; perfect start to a dining treat. Both came with accompanying sauces which were quite simply stunning and beautifully presented. As it was a ‘pop up steak night’….at a butchers shop we both ended up choosing steaks; we went for fillets but were so tempted by the other steak cuts and protein options such as lamb, chicken stuffed with haggis and haggis (vegetarian option too). We chose to ‘pimp up’ our meal with Mac and cheese, onion rings and some surf upgrades with some of the biggest prawns I’ve seen in Scotland (unfortunately scallops were sold out) which was a ‘greedy’ but wise choice. All food was cooked to perfection and compliments to staff for standard of cooking and presentation. We had a lovely evening in great surroundings with great service from Mark and Laura. Everyone we heard were very complimentary of the food and service. Congratulations to staff and owners for a fantastic culinary experience!! Will no doubt be back for their monthly ‘pop up’ events and to their daily cafe and butcher business.

My daughter, Fenella and our friend Philomena absolutely ADORE McCaskies. The manager, Randal, and other staff Felicia and Jemima are simply wonderful! The bants and humour are second to none. The food is simply exquisite and the attention to detail, right down to extra napkins when I dribble my food make the dining experience enjoyable and worthwhile. Randal kindly manhandles my friend Philomena into a taxi when she's had 2 sweet sherries too many - a Prince amongst men!

Delightful little family-owned cafe opposite the ferry terminal. Swift, cheerful service, and the menu offers a good selection of snacks, sandwiches and more substantial meals. Fresh, tasty, and served in generous portions. The retail butcher shop deservedly wins awards for the quality and presentation of its Aberdeen Angus steaks and other meat products.

Very disappointed by the waiter. On arrival at 3.15pm we waited to be seated, waiter shouted over to us were we in for food or a drink, we confirmed we were just in for coffee, to which he replied "Do you know we shut at 4pm?". We took our seat and waited to be served, after 2 tables that arrived after us, getting served before us, I asked said waiter if we could order to which he replied "I forgot you were even there". After that he apologised every time he came near the table, but in the most insincere manner. When we went to the counter to pay, he tried to push past me to go in to the butchers and again over exaggerated this, to which the waitress serving us found this hysterical and couldn't stop laughing. Had he had the manners to say "excuse me" I would've known he was there. He needs some customer service training or indeed to grow up. Not a pleasant experience!

Stopped in for lunch a few weeks back, sorry for the late review ! It was great !! Right opposite the ferry terminal, so easy to find. Parking was busy, holiday weekend, but there is a pay n display just before the Suzuki garage. Lunch was superb !! Wife had the chicken pakora wrap, and it was huge !! Not too spicy, but a wee nip, just perfect she said. I had the spicy chicken fillet burger, and it was delicious ! Wife had a pink gin and lemonade, muggin`s was driving, so had an Americano coffee ! Very reasonable prices, service was 1st class. Popped into the butcher`s shop next door and ended up taking away some slice sausage, mince round etc. Some of the choices were awesome. I would well recommend, and we will return. Thank you...........

We spent the time shopping In the attached butchers and deli . Wee Mammy had the haddock, 2 sisters had the steak sandwich and 1 sister (me) had the garlic chicken( from the specials board). This food is top quality. I have to say it is the nicest, juiciest chicken I’ve had in a long time , the mash and veg were also delicious, I could in fact have ate double the amount of veg it was THAT good. Mammy raves about the fish and both sisters couldn’t fault the steak . Cakes afterwards were also fab. As for the service .... top notch. I visited early in the morning for their advertised opening time - the cafe opens later than the butchers shop, so one to watch out for. There's a traditional Scottish breakfast on offer and of course they use their own meat. Sausages were tasty and definitely something to pick up and take home. There is a take away service if you go when the weather is better and there was a continual flow of people for this service. Take away to the ferry? You're only across the road from the ferry terminal.

Whenever I’m back in town I usually meet a mate for breakfast, last couple of times we’ve met here. Service is fine for a small cafe but the meat is second to none (as you would expect from a cafe attached to a butchers). Mate always gets full cooked breakfast, which is brilliant for £8 odds, I got the eggs benedict with bacon and black pudding. I wouldn’t say the coffee was amazing but I’m not there for that. We decided to have a meal here after word of mouth recommendations. My husband and I both had cheeseburgers and chips and they were fantastic. I followed this with hot apple and rhubarb pie and cream and my husband had ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised at the bill. It was definitely good value. Beware if you take your car, the waitress told us that you are only allowed to park for an hour on the main road and there is a traffic warden. The restaurant has a small car park that takes maybe 4/5 cars. Otherwise there is a parking lot a few yards away that costs £3 for 24 hours. You can also park in the railway station car park for £3 for the day, although it is free for rail users. Unfortunately the restaurant is not open in the evenings and closes around 5pm/6pm depending on the day. I will definitely return, they have several dishes I want to try including the steak pie. It is no wonder the food is good as the restaurant is next door to their award winning butchers shop.

First of all I love this place so today I was really disappointed to get below par food. It's not a cheap breakfast and as a family it a rare treat. French toast was 2 slices of very thin cut bread and some very oily bacon, priced at £7ish. I would have no issue paying this if I had gotten what was described. They were very busy so it took 30mins to get our order, this was explained to us and we were happy to wait, however as sit down customers paying more for the experience it's frustrating that take away customers are served and given their orders quicker.

The restaurant was quite busy and after we ordered, we were a little panicked that we might not get our food in time before the ferry arrived, as it was all cooked fresh. Thankfully though it did arrive in time and it was very good. I had a coronation chicken toastie and it was lovely. My side of chicken broth soup was running a bit late, so the staff put it in a takeaway cup for me to enjoy on the boat. It was thick and delicious with lots of veg and barley. On an adventure day with my friend and popped in here before train home. Got a latte, tea and cake, with it only totally £5 - so cheap! Definitely a hidden gem. Views are beautiful too, especially on a nice day. Cute little place

Nice decor and very attentive, cheerful service. I had Minestrone Soup and Chicken Coronation combo served with a garnish of mixed salad, nicely dressed and creamy coleslaw. The soup was Harty and very tasty as was the toasty. My other half had the Steak Pie served with lovely creamy mash and string beans, very tasty too. A coffee and a water brought our bill to just over £20. I think this will be our go to when we are in the area.

Passing this little cafe on our motorbike when something caught our eye, I don’t know if it was the fresh fish sign or the fresh baking but we pulled up, we smooched. We went inside. We ate then we smooched some more then we talked about how amazing the food was. Then we had an ice cream and it was amazing with Scottish tablet in it. If passing by and looking for nice local food this is the place to go.

I regularly visit McCaskies and am always delighted. The range of butchery and delicatessen items is very good. The range of fresh meats is top quality always.

I have bought my butcher meat at McCaskies for many years as the quality and service in both the butchers and delicatessen areas are excellent. However the same cannot be said for the cafe. I have tried the cafe a few times but unfortunately come away with the same issues. Went in on Saturday morning for breakfast. The cafe was about half full, but as soon as we ordered the girl said it would be at least 20 minutes. We went next door to the butchers and placed and picked up our order. It took 35 MINUTES for a cooked breakfast to arrive. How can it take this amount of time to fry some bacon, sausages and an egg!!!! Unfortunately this has happened before. As others have commented the 2 girls who serve here are a major issue. We have been in for breakfast before to be told that window tables were reserved, so had to sit in the middle tables. No one sat at these tables while were there. The serving and kitchen staff here need a serious overhaul. Even if the food is excellent, I won’t be back until then.

We popped down to Wemyss Bay for lunch (our first attempt at the weekend failed because the place was so busy, but thankfully we were lucky to get a table on a holiday Monday).

We have eaten here a lot and the food is usually good. My all day breakfast today was a bit of a disaster. The fried egg was overcooked as were the sausage slice and the potato scone. A pity to start out with such good ingredients and then spoil them by inatentive cooking. My husband's omelette however was delicious.

Now you don’t get any better in and around Inverclyde and North Ayrshire when it come to Butchers. Excellent is the only description fitting. There takeaway service is merely average. My piece of steak slice was delicious but was dwarfed by the roll it sat in. When I have a slice roll I want the slice to fill the roll; completely.

My family went in for lunch. We wanted ciabattas but they didn’t have any. We were very disappointed as we had to have bread instead. It wouldn’t have been as bad if the bread was fresh, thick cut but it was just your bog standard medium sliced bread (not even toastie). One of them had been toasted to within an inch of it’s life so it was flat and unappealing. It was served with the smallest amount of side salad as possible and a teaspoon of coleslaw. It was not good value for money at all. It wasn’t worth any more than £4.50. On the plus side, the cakes were very tasty. We have eaten here a number of times but this visit has ensured we won’t be back.

Well up to it's normal high standards, good place to eat ideally suited to the traveler, buy car, train or ferry, believe Nigel is missing a trick by closing before the evening trade.

I love going here for the best eggs benedict breakfast. I like that I can read my morning paper peacefully without the loud music that some other cafes have. The staff are excellent too. I definitely recommend the Eggs Benedict.

Classic chip shop, one of the best around. Marco has been in the business since he was a youngster, he's still there for a good reason.

Had been before and ordered the poached eggs black pudding with hollandaise sauce but they had ran out of the sauce...Very dry !Ordered it again today on the understanding that it came with the sauce “ it does”...I was told. It came without cutlery, napkin or the sauce. Eggs Yokes were hard too. Don’t understand why they haven’t learned to make enough sauce to Last throughout the morning, or if there is no sauce left take it off the menu.Staff didn’t appear bothered either. “I didn’t make them, I only serve them” ♂️
