Seasider Fish & Chip Shop in West Dorset

We thought a fish & chip takeaway would be ideal but when we got it home we discovered misshaped fish had been horribly over cooked so that it was bone dry and all coated in a batter that was impenetrable in places. We had to throw the rubbish away. We thought that buying from a fish & chip shop rather than the several pop ups in the area would give us the best but that most definitely was not the case. We made our purchase at 6pm, so you would think that would be a peak time but you get the impression this place works on the principle of they are only selling to tourists so it doesn't matter what junk they give them. Avoid at all costs - there are so m any other outlets in West Bay

Disappointing. Fish was dry and like leather . Way below their normal standard . Perhaps they are sourcing their fish from a different supplier

We got our food delivered as we were camping and ordered online and the service was impeccable and food was outstanding. Everything was fresh and hot. We couldn’t fault anything.

Some really mixed reviews on here. We were recommended this as a take away by the host of our rental property. It didn’t disappoint. It’s a decent fish n chippy. Tasty fish served piping hot, good chips. Only quibble was the vinegar served from a plant sprayer. It doesn’t work!

Lovely fish and chips - we had the cod and it was very fresh! Batter was really good. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere while waiting. Fairly easy to park.

We were spending a few days in West Bay and were looking for some local fish and chips without the need to go to a restaurant. With excellent reviews and by recommendation we went S & E Fish and Chips Shop. Firstly a very pleasant, bright and clean with a small seated area and very pleasant staff. Unfortunately, the food did not meet the reviews. The fish, although well cooked, had soggy batter and the chips were mainly small, thin bits and few which were of standard size. Hopefully given the reviews and recommendations this was a one off, or maybe as it was early on but still may mean we would not revisit.

Very impressed, speedy and friendly service, good value for money, and extremely tasty! The batter on the fish was perfect, and a generous portion of chips. Would definitely use again when we are in the area

Without a doubt the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The queue outside tell you all you need to know. Cod and chips was a massive size well worth the money. Just watch the seagulls if you eat yours in the harbour 🤭

We had some of the best fish and chips from S & E we've ever had when we stayed in West Bay 2 years ago, so were prepared to wait the 40 minutes it took to be served. We were unsure why it took so long: there were long periods when no-one moved at all. We wish we hadn't done so, as the chips were not nice to eat (they looked grey, were not crisp, and tasted "earthy") and the batter on the plaice was hard and very thick. The only good thing was the plaice itself. That's why I gave more than 1 star. Will we bother to queue again when there is so much competition within a few yards? Very unlikely.

It's a fish and chips takeaway / restaurant. We ate in as it was raining. I had a large cod and chips, which was excellent. It was pretty large, so I only just finished it. Recommended.

We went here one evening while staying at Parkdeans adjacent, for a very nice fish & chip supper, we ate inside at one of the tables which were kitted out with condiments and a roll of kitchen paper. Nice pleasant people operating here, I was impressed by how switched on the youg man taking the orders was, sometimes young staff can be a bit Dolly daydream, not this bloke, he's keeping it going (give him a pay rise 😁) We enjoyed the visit, look forward to our next visit and can happily recommend to others. Tip to owners: stick your opening times up on the door or window please.

We’ve used S&E for a few years and often phone our order in for collection. Yesterday’s haddock, chips and mushy peas were outstanding and collected on time. My fat hungry brother was here and he shovelled his down with great aplomb. I also like the work ethic of the family that own S&E. Cant recommend highly enough👌

Freshly made, hot and managed to get a good spot to enjoy them on the beach during the 2 hours of sun we had last sunday. Lovely afternoon. Fish was beautifully fresh and meaty. Looking forward to our next visit. Shaz, Rob and the boys x

Me and my partner had a portion of chips each I have to say they were the worst chips I've ever had and quite expensive to just throw in the bin I went in at around 5.30 tea time and I can say they were yesterday's chips reheated they were dry and hardly any potato left inside I know times are hard but come on . A total waste of £6.90

I love fish & chips and that means I know the great ones, from the good ones and the poor ones. Not only does S&E produce excellent fish & chips - light batter, wonderfully fresh fish - but I must also really commend the owners for making the sit down area DOG FRIENDLY. Next to the takeaway is an attractive seating area of 6 tables where you can eat your takeaway free of charge. The lady owner that serves is super friendly and welcoming. Give the unpredictability of British weather it’s often a big challenge where dog owners can get a snack or meal inside when it’s wet. We expected to have to take ours to done covered seating along the sea front do it was a brilliant bonus to find out we could take our dog Baxter inside. First rate fish & chips, first rate staff AND DOG FRIENDLY. I highly recommend it.

We wee staying in the Parkdean opposite the chippy and in our 4 night stay we have been twice! The fish and chips were fresh, seemingly cooked to order and really tasty!!!! Curry sauce was great. The service was polite, friendly and engaging which is a rare gem these days!!! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back when we next visit!!! Thank you 😊

We visited based on our research on trip advisor and were very pleased that we did What a gem of a chippy, this is. The food was really nice and we thought the portions were generous. We particularly enjoyed the home made tartare sauce which was a nice touch. There was a queue when we got there however following a short walk to the beach and back it had already been cleared, so no issues there either. Nice chatting with the staff after we were finished as well. We will definitely go again next time we're in the area.

Disappointed. Greasy chewy batter on the fish. Cod was tasteless. Chips boring and soggy. So over rated. Wouldn’t recommend.

What’s happened here ? For years this has served the best fish & chips for miles but our recent visit now says otherwise. Has it changed ownership? Cod was flavourless chips Soggy and all pretty expensive. Back to Rachel’s in future where they are consistently very good

Found this fish & Chip shop on Tripadvisor and after reading the reviews It didn’t disappoint. Beautifully cooked fish and chips, had to wait a little while but it was busy and it meant everything was freshly cooked. We walked around to the beach to eat them and though not far to walk the food was still piping hot.

Very disappointed after seeing it had won awards. Scampi was tasteless. Cod was nothing special Have had better elsewhere.

Come from a seaside town but have never eaten a better plaice than was served here clean and very friendly staff. There is a queue but to be expected with the quality of food

Well....possibly the best fish and chips we have ever had. No wonder we noticed such a big queue every night before deciding to eat here later in the week. Waited no more than 20 minutes or so. We had a large cod...large chips....large battered sausage and a chicken n mushroom pie. What a treat. All the items were honestly the best i have ever had. I dont eat fish and chips all the time but my god this place is awesome...we had some chips in The Harbour Lights when we first arrived and they were awful. The owner there bangs on about serving the best chips in the bay....bollox....S and E do. Massive portions and cooked to perfection....everything came in at 20 bloody quid and we were stuffed. Dont mess around this is the only place to go when visiting the bay. Well done and thankyou. Maybe we will see you again one day? SUPER FRIENDLY FAMILY BUSINESS

we had fish, chips and a pea fritter,cooked to perfection,only one portion between the two of us and it filled us both. all freshly cooked so had to wait ,but it is worth it.

When asked to pay for my fish and chips recently, I was very surprised to be told that they only accept cash payment. Is this allowed?

Wonderful chips from here, and the burgers and sausages that we had were very good too. Everything freshly cooked to order and very friendly staff. Excellent.

Fish - fresh and succulent. Chips - plentiful and morish. Choices - plenty of them! but my complaint? It is West Bay's worst kept secret... the food is so good, it will benefit you to call ahead and avoid a queue!

This has some really good fish and chips, cooked fresh for you but does make for ques when at busy times. But worth waiting for.

Fish and chips were spot on, and because it's so busy you're guaranteed it'll be freshly cooked. Queue was long but service was very quick, nice friendly staff too. Good prices and you could tell how fresh it was!

Amazing and yummy fish and chips. My hubby doesn’t like fish and requested a battered burger which they very kindly did even though it was not on the menu! Very friendly and hard working staff

Staying nearby, we visited this fish & chip shop a couple of times during our holiday. The food was cooked perfectly with huge portions. Nothing felt greasy & everything was very tasty. Previous reviewers mention the queues, though I feel that a queue is reflective of quality & we never waited too long.

We went on a sunny Monday evening and ordered two small fish and chips and mushy peas. There were about 6 or 7 people in front of us but only had to wait around 15 minutes.

Excellent food, a little pricey but very good. Unfortunately there is always a very long queue and run out of quite a bit when we went. Best fish and chips we have ever had from a chip shop.

Couldn't fault it at all. We managed to get a table for 10 inside, 6 kids and 4 adults. The waitress taking our order was lovely. Friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Everyone ate every bit of their meals and said how nice it was "best fish and chips in the world!" (My 8 year old son lol) Prices were very reasonable. It was our last night on holiday or we would have been back.

Quite simply one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had. The batter was good and the fish was so flaky it was falling apart. No skin left on which is my preference, just thick white cod flakes. The chips were a good quality and the curry sauce was nice. Good size portion. Would visit again if in the area.

Have had good ole fish n chips here several times and very good they are too - fish cooked to order - as it must be and tons of chips (no need to ask for large portion)

This place opens mainly in the evening but it was well worth waiting for the food. The first night we all had haddock and chips with a drink and a choice of side condiments. The food came in individual boxes which made eating the food sitting on the beach a treat.

Spur of the moment Fish & Chip craving - rang the order through and very helpful staff made the collection simple and the meals were excellent - will be returning !

We were staying locally in Burton Bradstock and came for fish and chips on our last night of our holiday. There was a wait for the food but it was all cooked fresh so we didn't mind at all. Many locals in so that's a good sign! We really enjoyed our fish and chips and would recommend anyone goes here whilst they are in the area! Thank you.

Once again no surprise fantastic fish ( please read previous 45 years fish monger ) great food great value no wonder theres a queue staff and service great and always with a smile even though they kept busy will return and return again its a no brainer. Please enjoy you wont be disappointed :)

Visited here whilst in West Bay on a weekend break. They also have a restaurant which looked really nice and would have ate there but as we had our dog on holiday with us, a take away it was. We had cod & chips and a side order of mushy peas. Freshly cooked to order and were amazing. It's usually a good sign when there is a queue even on a rainy cold night. If you want good fish and chips, look no further. Got chatting to someone in the queue who was staying in Charmouth who said they always come here even though it is not local, another good sign I thought. Will definitely go back next time we are in West Bay.

This really deserves a special mention. I wouldnt normally do a tripadvisor review for a Fish & Chip shop but having had a takeaway from here recently, it really does deserve it. I'm afraid it beats the other fish and chip shops locally, hands down. There is no contest. We had huge portions of chips, and no greasy yuck! The fish was also enormous and no soggy batter! We would highly recommend.

First of all an apology I have accidentally pressed a like for a negative comment that has recently been posted. If a food selling establishment has a large queue on a cold Monday eve this tells me it must be worth the wait for food....

If you like you like tasty fish in light crispy batter and fabulous chips cooked freshly for you and served with a smile... you're going to really enjoy what's on offer at Seasiders in West Bay. .

Well what can one say ! I keep coming back for fish and chips I do like the small fish which is plenty big enough for me ( with chips it’s not a small portion!!!!) cook to order so don’t expect to be in and out in 5 minutes.Be prepared to wait for great food.

On visiting West Bay last Friday we were pleased to see that The Seasider was open. It wasn't a hard decision to make to book the restaurant for Saturday lunchtime and as usual we were not disappointed. The cod and chips was wonderful, the cleanliness...

On holiday in West Bay again for 1 week and visited Seasider twice. Absolutely brilliant, very clean and fish cooked to perfection. Anne our waitress is an absolute credit to the business as well as good fun. The perfect combination. We will definitely be back...

Great tasting chips were bought from here over the weekend, freshly cooked. Friendly staff, and didn't have to wait to long. Did have to chuckle though as there was a sign up saying we change our oil everyday, last changed with a date in September...

After a sorry start to our stay in West Bay, stumbled on Seasider Fish and Chips and what a find it was! As a foodie who reviews many restaurants and food sites this has to be one of the best....Freshly cooked fish, local and meaty...

Always pop here when down in West Bay. Can't be beaten, and very VERY generous portions. All had fish and chips, and all cooked to perfection.

Fantastic fish and chips, best ever, they even have a board up to tell you the cod this week was caught in the Norwegian Sea on the Royal Greenland in the North East Atlantic , staff lovely, restaurant very clean, would definitely recommend this restaurant

We chose this having seen long queues there the previous evening - it was obviously popular and justifiably so. We each had a takeaway 'small' cod and chips (plenty for two oldies) and a cod roe. Lovely light batter and nice crisp chips, all piping hot. Good value. Service was very good - they are efficient at dealing with long queues.

Called in on the way back to the campsite and so glad we did! Proper portions, lovely battered cod and real chips!

We saw tha kiosks were busy and cheaper but wanted to eat our fish and chips without having the threat of seagulls swooping down on us.The restaurant was busy but the staff were welcoming and quickly prepared a recently vacated table.I knew I couldn't eat a large fish and was happy to see there were smaller portions on offer. It was cooked to order, crispy batter on the cod, perfectly sized portion.My husband had a beef pie, he was very pleased with the quality. The pastry was excellent. When I asked for tap water it arrived in a lovely bottle with a lid and two glasses. A lovely experience. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed in the building next to the seasider, it was a good sign that a queue was forming at 5pm every night when it opened. Excellent fish and chips cooked to order, and really good value.

Steve and his team produce some of the best Fish and Chips in the Southwest. Usually a wait but well worth it. I really like the traceability of both the fish and potatoes displayed on the board.

A random road trip landed us in west bay and decided to eat in the restaurant area. Very clean and looked newly decorated. Crayons, books and dot to dot for children to do. Staff was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. You could see in to the kitchen and it looked very clean. Very good sized portions of fish and chips and would certainly recommend.They seem to have a very good trade with tourist's and locals alike!!

This place is tucked away off the main harbour. It's been a firm favourite of my family for years even though there has been some changes in ownership or staff the quality has remained the same. Superb and a great day to round off a day trip before heading home. Love it.

All the Fish and Chip shacks seem to close early in West Bay, luckily we strolled past The Seasider and were not disappointed! By far the best we've had in the area and the staff were so friendly and welcoming too.. definitely be back next time we Visit :)

Been going for 20+ years but will try elsewhere after last 2 visits the fish did not seem fresh and batter seemed to be done twice. The chips are still great however. Sorry guys but your standards are slipping. Why dont you use a number system instead of calling out when the orders are ready ?

We were recommended by a local stall holder to try this fish and chip shop and we were not disappointed. Generous portions, freshly cooked and with light crisp batter. Good to have the option of taking away, which we did, or eating in. Would definitely visit again.

We visit this place every week. We recommended to my elderly neighbour to check it out.We took him there for a treat j but won't be bothering to go again. Bearing in mind it's a 40 mile round trip . After waiting a long time ( no fete for an 85 year old) he was handed his cod and chips . He tried to balance his food on the counter to add more salt and vinegar. Due to there not being enough space it tipped off the counter. He was made to wait while more cod was being cooked. And can you believe he was charged full price for a replacement. I think this was disgusting . We won't be going there again.

I was told they serve the best fish and chips in Dorset ! I don't know about that but they are certainly very nice. Been a few times now and the same quality each time :)

Had a cod and chips and whitebait and chips. Can't remember the cost but was about £10 I think which was pretty reasonable. Huge portions of chips on both and really nicely cooked cod and whitebait. Couldn't argue with it.

We had an allegedly "small" portion of cod and chips, which was plenty big enough. The food is cooked to order and absolutely delicious with no greasy aftertaste. There is a pleasant clean restaurant also rather than sitting near the road which most of the other places seemed to offer. The staff were pleasant and helpful too. Highly recommended

Really good quality - fish cooked to order, generous portions and lovely chips. The staffwere cheerful and the shop is clean and tidy. Good that they display the source of both their fish and potato's. So good we went back two nights running!

Walking around the harbour and thought we would get fish and chips all the hits were shut so we arrived at Seasiders and glad we did excellent chips great children's sized portions and the cod bites were lovely as was the curry sauce highly recommend

Best fish and chips in West Bay, having been a few times now. Avoid the kiosks and come here, the chips are perfect and portions are generous. Staff are friendly and I look forward to visiting.

I was here with a party of 11. We arrived in West Bay around 7 on a Friday eve. By the time we'd unpacked, had a Gin and a walk round it was 21.15. We headed for Fish and Chips only to find this place closing up. They were brilliant and stayed open to cook us all totally fresh Cod and chips. Delicious.

Did not have any fish and chips but the ice cream was really great lots of choice and flavour, the blackcurrant was really great along with the rum and raisin

This restaurant may we'll serve very good fish and chips it's absolutely no good if you can only pay cash. So certainly not 5 stars. We were set to buy £40 worth but had to leave because they don't take cards and the surly person serving us couldn't even direct us to a cashpoint. Ended up going to Longs in Bridport and had excellent F&C. Come on guys get with the beat and invest in a card machine!

Lovely fish and chips, stunning calamari will go back for some more! Although it was busy it was slow service.. definitely something that needs improving somehow. We must have waited a minimum of 20 mins if not longer. However they were some of the best fish and chips I have ever had so wouldn't stop me from going back.

As the title says, it's decent fish and chips - 2 of us had the medium cod each and shared a large chips. It was plenty! Light crisp batter and good fresh cod. Not expensive either, especially as it's in West Bay.

We thought it was very very good the fish is ginormous even the small one, the children menu is good I would say any one would like it. You are better to book before you go the price is reasonable. If you finish it your better than me!

A totally unplanned stop, but what's find! Been put off fish n chips by the look of them in many places, but as I walked in and saw others food I decided fish n chips were on for me. They have a high demand therefore the food is freshly cooked. We couldn't fault any of them meal. We live around 30 miles away and when we are round there again we know where we will be eating . Oh and the staff were friendly and helpful
