Chips taste great but I found a rock in my chips! I nearly chipped my tooth from bitting into my chips! Just raising awareness incase there is more rocks in their batch!

We've been buying fish and chips from here since we moved to Whitley Bay in1986. They've never let us down and I look forward to the next visit.

I have consistently used this establishment and find it to be consistently...excellent. I am a big chap with a healthy appetite and struggle to finish fish chips and peas and find some of the comments on here ludicrous to say the least. As for service I have NEVER been spoken to inappropriately or rudely indeed find the girls chatty and friendly. What I have heard many times is rude and bolshy customers talking down to the staff like some kind of serf. Prices have risen significantly but this is outside of their control and they are no more than other establishments in the are.

Worst customer care I have ever experienced. Ordered delivery which was promised in 1 hour and arrived in 1.5 hors. The food was warm and a bit soggy. Called sea shells and they argued it was all right and hung up on me. Do not order from this store

One of my fish was soggy on the bottom and small , for the price it just was not worth it , will try elsewhere in future

Not as good as it used to be. As per other reviews, the customer service is shockingly poor/rude. The food isn't much better either with chips either under or over cooked and fish always too dry. The prices seem to rise weekly too so probably worth looking elsewhere.

I’ve visited this fish and chips twice over the past month to be served by a lady with dark hair and glasses who is quite rude. She seems to give smaller portions of batter and curry sauce than the other staff members. To be honest two times I’ve visited I’ve felt unwelcome which is such a shame

Large dark hair woman is incompetent of listening and taking correct orders, her attitude is unpleasant, miserable and down right rude as to when you try correcting your order. My food was also extremely oily and the chips tasting of earth. Will not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Thought the food and service were abysmal. Wish I had checked the reviews here before trying. Having owned a takeaway for 5 years in the past I can say this was not only poor quality and expensive it was a lesson in how not to keep a customer. Won't be giving them a chance to disappoint us again. I would never have served such crappy food in my establishment.

My mother went in to get me a chippy as a treat as I am unable to go myself due to a medical condition. There were people thinking she was next but in fact she was waiting for her order no problems there. She told each person she was not in the queue just waiting which is what any normal person does. She then got shouted at by one of the staff saying I'm in charge stand over there! She was humiliated in front of the people in there and she also suffers from anxiety. I can not describe how angry I am at this DISGUSTING behavior. I'm glad I wasn't there and will never ever go there and will make sure none of my friends and family go there and I will also spread the word of the disgraceful attitude and to not go there! If there is an email to contact the manager please let me know because I would LOVE to speak to them! Hopefully they are not as cheeky as there disrespectful staff! Anyway the food was very greasy The chips were soggy no crisp at all the mushy peas were fine the patty wasn't crispy and the chicken nuggets were chicken dippers! Absolute joke what a mess you made you used to be decent! Get rid of the rude staff or you will end up being shut down.

We visit seashells the other week to buy some food to take down to St mary's to eat. To cut a long story short the seagulls were not even keen to eat the chips that I threw out onto the ground. I'm sorry to say that they were horrible. You would think that the cooking oil must not have been changed in a while and the food tasted of burnt oil. Normally my trip advisor reviews are lovely but I'm sad to say not for this occasion I didn't have time to drive back from St Mary's to complain in person which would have been the best option. In the past, Seashells was a great chippy. It was one of my regular haunts when I was a bit more local. I have no idea if ownership has changed or what, but I won't ever be going back. Please take these comments as an opportunity to pull your socks up and change things back to the good old days when the shop was one of the best in the area. Not one of the worst which it is today. For me a waste of time and money!

We had a couple of drinks in our local, and thought ..Let's get Fish and Chips, and go home to our garden, there's salad in7 the fridge, and enjoy the lovely sunny evening. ....Do we never learn???? Got our fish and chips and home to our garden... I don't know when our fish had been cooked..most certainly not recently!!! Batter was soggy. Fish was just slimy!!! turned into mush when touched with a knife.. So so mushy .The chips!! even older!!! I have had approx three negative experiences here now overall - usually the poor customer service and grumpy attitude of the lady serving as opposed to the food. However, last night I popped in for a portion of chips. Granted, it was approx 10pm but I was still charged full price for the smallest and driest portion of chips I’ve ever seen/tasted. They should have been thrown out never mind charging customers £1.70 for them. I finally think I’m done with this chippy. Such a shame.

Used to always be top choice so decided to try again whilst in area. My family were not disappointed.Great portion sizes and value for money.Fish was cooked perectly,kebab meat and chilli sauce had a lovely flavour and not at all greasy and chips were lovely and fluffy with no scrappy little ends.Will definatley return soon

Popped in on way home for some chips, bought 2 portions between 3 adults as the portions are usually big enough. I’m assuming that because the queue was big, this is why we got a handful (literally) in each box for £4. We weren’t even 5 minutes from home and the chips were already cold. Will be going else where from now on. It used to be a decent chippy but it’s gone down in estimations recently.

Normally go here most Fridays however I'm now changing after having the person be hide the till for making a longish order. Which they got wrong. Used to be a great chippy but is now distinctly average. with bad costumer service.

Pans desperately need cleaning as chips tasted strongly of burnt oil and inedible and minced beef pie was dry, disappointed as last time food was quite nice. So hard to find a decent chippy at the coast these days!!!

A local Chippy for my wife and I - sometimes first class but sometimes not quite to the high standard you'd hope for.

I go here not only because its nearby but because they do great chips, haggis and kebabs. Well worth the wait as its usually very busy at night times.

Went to ‘seashells’ with some mates last night and had the most mesmerising kebab and chips someone could ever ask for, the staff call the sauce ‘garlic’ but dont be fooled, it still tastes great nevertheless however one of the members of staff puts me off my food every time with her arms hence ‘rashy sauce’

Went to this place tonight. The fryer and assistant both have terrible attitudes. They don’t ask if you want salt and vinegar and throw the food at you. The food used to be good but now tastes so bland. Will NEVER use this awful place again! Horrible staff

I had been away on business for the day and needed something quick and easy for dinner. Having eaten from Seashells many times in the last 30 years but not recently I decided to give their Fish and Chips a try. The fish was a good size and the chips well cooked. There was a plentiful supply so I did not have to wait.

Long established family run business Nice and clean well manner staff Fish and chips among the best in whole whitleybay and monkseton. All dishes good and tasty very popular at lunch time. Strongly recommend must try once .

Such a great place for fish and chips. The service is great! I do not know what other people are talking about! We got two haddock and chips, it was with out a doubt fresh. We prefer the skin off so we asked for that, and the fryer without a problem took it off. Definitely come back again, as we always do.

This is our local chippy and is always great. Lovely well cooked chips, fresh fish and lovely batter.

Fish and chips here are always delicious, piping hot and staff always provide batter when you ask for it. Be careful when eating as sometimes there can be a couple of bones in the fish but always a generous portion.

They do the best fish and chips in Whitley Bay probably. Well cooked nice fresh haddock and the chips are actually really well done here. Only issue is the staff are just miserable, not fun to be served by this lot

I have to say having used Sea shells since it first opened I'm amazed at some of the reviews.

This place was recommended by a member of the family who lives local, but I was very disappointed. Not the friendliest of service. A smile would be nice and to be acknowledged would also help. Didn't even ask if I wanted salt and vinegar before it was all wrapped up ready to go.The Cod batter was thick and under cooked and the chips were very scrappy.

We've been getting fish and chips from here for about 15 years now and it is consistently good quality. Lovely staff. Just be prepared to wait a while on a Friday night. It's worth it.

Food okay here but the customer service is disgusting. I walked into the shop tonight and all 3 members of staff looked at me and continued to slag off a member of staff that also works at the shop. I got a chip butty qith gravy and the amount of gravy she put on was laughable!! I had to ask for more as it was one tiny spoon and looked dry as sticks!! I would not recommend this fiah shop...stay well clear!!

Cod bites and chips from Seashells are a Friday regular for our family, excellent and worth queuing for. Portions are huge but some good smaller sized and priced specials available.

When we stay at our caravan, we usually buy our f&c from The Harbour View in Seaton Sluice but they were closed when we were there on Sunday so we drove to Seashells instead. The service was a bit slow as there was only one person serving (not sure if that's the norm) and there was quite a queue of people waiting to be served. I ordered 2 x cod & chips and a carton of curry sauce which came to just over £13, which to be honest wasn't too bad. We took them back to our caravan and thoroughly enjoyed eating them, generous sized fish and a good portion of proper chips. We both agreed that we would definitely go back and order food from there again at some point, however, I've only gave it a 3/5 for service due to the wait to be served.

Was in start of August when passing seemed busy so thought must be good???? In queue for ages and people getting served all over coming in going away oh here's coming in picked food up etc seemed a bit chaotic to me, I had asked for three portions of cod bites after arriving as they were asking what I wanted when I went in waited about 10 minutes then they called me over then they apologised said would need to put my cod bites in as ran out????? I asked what fish they had ready as was in a hurry and did they have bones in and reply was no and said it was cod, when I got home was clearly haddock very dry and full of bones tasted terrible would not recommend to anyone!!!!!!

Popped into my local seashells at Monkseaton tonight .It was busy, many folks waiting for their special orders of haddock, etc. I've used them for years and find their fish is freshly fried, the batter very tasty, and the chips are always well drained of fat -nothing worse than a box of soggy chips dripping with fat! I find they are always busy (even at mid-day) , their range of kebabs , burgers, pizzas, pineapple rings (yum!), smokeys!, fish - lemon sole, plaice, haddock, are all very appetizing. Well established business with plenty footfall and well cooked food.

After years of not being here, i thought to myself its a nice chippy ill try it again, how i was disappointed. I bought fish and chips and a kebab 'special'. The kebab meat was nice along with the garlic sauce, shame it was a small portion. Now the fish and chips, the chips not so much but the fish was horrible. Bones all throughout to which i ate abit of fish to find a suprise.... i requested cod but i think it was haddock.. the seperate garlic sauce was stale... crusty bits on the outside of the tub and been sitting for awhile in the fridge. Overall not a good experience and will not be returning.

Visited midweek at 6pm ish. I could see that there were two cooked cod in the cabinet & I ordered cod & chips. I had wondered how long the cod had been cooked & waiting to be sold, but didn't question it as I assumed it would be fine. It wasn't. The woman serving put both fish into the box & when I took 1st taste at home, it was disgusting. The taste was horrible and the texture was like rubber. It went straight into the bin. I went to another chippy up the road which was fine. Seashells - you should be ashamed of this for deliberately selling food you know has become stale & inedible.

This was a very popular fish and chip shop not so long ago.It has rapidly gone downhill.On Friday evening the fish was just ok but the chips were tasteless and dry.They resembled frozen chips .We won't be back.

Always tolerated the miserable staff as the food is decent. However after they refused to put my 'splash' of curry sauce in a pot as the kids like to dip their chips into the curry sauce I'm done with the place!

Miserable staff. Never ask if you would like want salt or vinegar. Portion size for specials are tiny more for a small child. Overall not good. After a few times of not being happy i won't be going again.

We remained loyal to seashells even though the attitude you get was sometimes frosty even after other chip shops opened. However as of today's visit I will never return. The food was poor and half the portion of chips for the same price. You are providing the service. Clearly you have never heard of service with a smile. Had your food been exceptional then maybe, just maybe I would tolerate the bad service from the sisters Grimm but after tonight's visit I WILL NEVER RETURN.

I can only go by our own experience of Seashells. Last week we called in to get Haddock and Chips. It was fresh out of the fryer, a lovely large piece of fish, no bones in sight and perfectly battered. Beautiful and tasty. In my experience now and in the past Seashells has yet to disappoint.

Chips not as good, slower than before, nice fish, chicken needs to be reheated. Queues on Friday can be off putting.

Not as normal the kids had there usual they loved it the wife tried the chicken she enjoyed it I got fish and chips it was disgusting as a chef I no the difference between fresh and old fish which was smelly full of bones and half the batter was gone ?? Normally a regular customer. Tonight this was the worst fish and chips me and my girlfriend have ever had! The chips were pale and tasted stale, dry and undercooked with green bits throughout; I think this was caused from old potatoes or old chips that they have kept lying around all day. Both the fish and the cod bites tasted dry and shrivelled like they had been lying for too long. The meals were so bad we had to bin the lot as after a taste of the chips, fish and cod bites we thought we were going to be physically sick. My girlfriend had a bad stomach after eating only a tiny bit. I rang up to complain and was told to bring them back so 'he' can see what's wrong with them. I'm assuming 'he' is the owner. I explained I live too far away then got told to mention it next time but was told there is nothing wrong with the food tonight. They failed to acknowledge anything was wrong and would not offer a refund; if there was nothing wrong than I would not be ringing up. This ignorant 'couldn't care a less' attitude says to me the food would be disgusting again if went back so I won't bother. Their attitude to the complaint was so poor I had to write this review. It was extremely poor customer service and I can safely say we won't be back. One positive came out of this; we will save some calories as this has put us off fish and chips for a long time! It's about time obnoxious businesses like Seashells learnt if you serve rubbish then people just aren't going to come back. Seashells 2 closed, I reckon this one won't be far behind it! Either that or this place will be shut down by the Food Standards Agency.

We went for fish and chips at 15:40. The chips were dry and from lunch time, nearly half were bad. The fish was nice but way too many bones. The staff were miserable. Last time we will go there as we ended up having to bin half of the food. The worst fish and chips I have ever had.

This is our first choice for fish and chips. Fish cooked nicely, chips not soggy, other things like pies and sausages available. Worth a try.

There is a high turn over so most things are fresh. Have a good menu and things cooked to order. Staff are pleasant in a difficult situation.

There's always a long queue, every time I've been here, which I think speaks for itself, and also means a quick turnover of the food Lovely fish and chips, which they package we'll.

Minimum order £15 with a £2 delivery charge ( rip off ) fish was warm not hot, not skinned and boned, fish was very watery with no taste, black on the bottom of fish, asked for 2 cartons of curry sauce, I recieved 2 cartons of make your own curry sauce paste.... The only thing good about it was the 2 bottles of coke were cold

overall the food was very good however the two women that where serving have to be the most miserable and depressing women in the north east totally let the place down with appalling attitude towards the customers hope they were the staff and not the owners !!!!!!

Excellent fresh fish and chips. The haggis is also delicious. Huge portions - one large portion is easily enough for 2 adults.

I've said it all really. We've been coming to Seashells since I can remember. Been to others as welk and Seashells is by far the best. Fishmongers attached just makes it perfect.Excellent service and staff. Ready with a bit of banter and a cracking smile. Can't recommend highly enough
