Seagulls Restaurant in West Dorset

Fabulous evening from start to finish. Staff friendly and attentive. Steak cooked to perfection and lamb shanks generously sized and meaty. Potatoes and veg plentiful. The bread and butter pudding was the best I've ever had. Would highly recommend Seagulls.

I booked a table at Seagulls for my wife and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary whilst we were on holiday and it was a great choice. We were warmly greeted by a lovely young lady and shown to our table. We ordered our drinks and they were quickly brought to us. My wife had the lamb shank and I had Hake, both accompanied by fresh vegetables and new potatoes, all delicious and cooked to perfection, just as we like it. This was followed by a delicious bread and butter pudding with fresh cream and my wife had a chocolate pudding with raspberry ice cream followed by a cappuccino. Nothing was too much trouble and the service was very pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. We would definitely return here and can confidently recommend Seagulls. Thank you for a lovely evening.

This was the worst restaurant experience. It took 20 minutes just to get our drink order and an hour and 20 minutes before we got our food, and two of us didn’t get our food at all. Then they had the balls to add a service charge, which I asked them to remove. The waitress was completely clueless, the staff didn’t look like they knew what they were doing although the place was only half full. dO NOT GO HERE.

My husband and I have become disillusioned with eating out and often use the phrase “disappointing and expensive”. We were delighted to discover that Seagulls in West Bay tick neither of these boxes! The food was delicious, well presented and good value. The team were very welcoming and took care of my dietary requirements with no fuss. If you are in West Bay, a visit is highly recommended. It’s a popular and small restaurant so don’t forget to book.

My Aunt (96) and I visited The Seagulls restaurant today Sunday 29 September. We were on our way home to Hampshire from Paignton, Devon and needed a place to have lunch at about the halfway mark. Seagulls was recommended to me and so I booked a table for us in advance. We were certainly not disappointed. The service was excellent with the staff happy to meet our needs for small portions. The food was so good and we enjoyed every mouthful. I would definitely recommend the restaurant if you are in the area of West Bay- and definitely book or you won't get a table.

A lovely intimate place to eat. The service, food, staff and atmosphere are wonderful. I recommend booking as it gets full very quickly.

Very good food and service. The chicken breast and sauce main is excellent especially since you can have veg or salad and chips or new potatoes. We have come many times and hopefully again

Food wonderful, service excellent. For Sunday lunch you need to book. Roast Beef so tender and full of flavour. Have had many a birthday meal at the seagull never disappointed, delicious puddings.

Seagulls restaurant is the best place to eat in West Bay in our opinion. The food is consistently amazing and the service is great! I had the Thai green curry and home made bread and butter pudding. I can’t wait to go back and have it again! I have tried several things on the menu and they have all been wonderful!

Friendly staff in small local restaurant. Lots of choice on the menu. Starters of mackeral pate and mushroom soup were very tasty. Mains of beef casserole and ratatouille - excellent - with veg and new potato sides. Very reasonably priced.

Lovely little place. Food was just amazing, I had the hake and it was cooked to perfection. Vegetables and chips came out piping hot and even the kids meals were really good quality, the chicken nuggets were lovely! Service friendly and attentive and it was reasonably priced too. Would definitely recommend. Ate at a few restaurants in West Bay this one is by far the best! Was also nice to find a place to eat where I didn’t have to smell wet dog!

It was the nicest meal we have had out as a family whilst staying in West Bay. So friendly and brilliant service. Great children’s menu, and fish cooked to perfection and vegetarian and vegan options were great and very tasty. Will be back! Good value for money for the food and five star service, thank you!

Best meal I've had yet in my 2 weeks here, starter, main & dessert all stunning, tried my partners too & they were equally as good, so much so we booked the following night, whoever is in that kitchen is a magician... can't do you justice with whatever i put... Bravo..! The girls out front serving are both lovely too... great service, so friendly and incredibly professional, if you haven't eaten here... you need to...!

Amazing food, cooked fresh and reasonably priced for quality food. Friendly staff who are patient. Fresh Bass and steak was soft and not chewy. I came last year and this year was even better.

What a lovely find this was on our holiday in west bay. The food was excellent , the staff where allways smiling and very polite. Me & my husband both went for the hake as we have never had that before with cheese on, it was cooked to perfection. The crab soup was lovely and the puddings as well, give this place a go its a must. Its small inside so best book . Cant fault it

We've dined here 4 times during our 2 visits to West Bay and just can't fault the friendly attentive service, ambiance, and the consistently good quality of their fish menu and cookery. It's a real gem!

We visit this restaurant every time we come on holiday here the food is the absolute best quality and is cooked to perfection the staff are lovely and attentive and best of all the prices are very good. I highly recommend this restaurant but you MUST book well in advance of your visit, it is quite cosy but the tables are well spaced out.

What a find this place is. We have been back twice this week for evenings meals. All the dishes(beef casserole, chicken with bacon, brie and cheddar and Goan curry)were delicious. Staff are friendly and very efficient. It's not a large restaurant and is obviously very popular so I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment. We were also pleased to see that dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. Will be back for a couple of nights on our next visit in September.

Wonderful! Found this little place on a drive out to West Bay and so glad we did, the service couldn’t have been better and the food absolutely delicious! My husband had the fish gratin that was on the specials board and I had a beef casserole, meat tender and delicious. Would recommend to all couples wanting excellent quality meals in a comfortable and welcoming setting. Well done Seagulls !!

We went here for lunch with friends on a Sunday in March, during a recent week's stay at West Bay. Food and service were excellent, waitress very friendly and efficient. We all enjoyed our main course choices, but all had the delicious bread and butter pudding for afters. We went back later during our stay for an evening meal, which again was very enjoyable. We would recommend this restaurant.

Lovely friendly waitress who made you feel welcome as soon as you walked into the establishment. The plaice which we both had was absolutely lovely, the puddings all homemade which really makes a difference. Would highly recommend.

Everything are so impeccable. Service was good, food was delicious and the place is cozy. Highly recommend to dine in.👍🏻

We have been visiting Seagulls for the last 15 years, whenever we're in Dorset. The food is always superb and the service friendly and efficient. Their Sunday roasts are the best ever and fish dishes are perfectly cooked. Highly recommend.

Excellent food at realistic prices, fabulous Sunday lunch, friendly staff. Very limited parking so have to pay for car park but well worth it for good food very reasonably priced. Will be back next year.

Early evening meal here whilst staying in West Bay. Fairly busy at 6.30/7 and only one waitress, Maisie, due to staff sickness. Maisie was a real star, unflappable and still had time to chat and check up on each table. No delay with our orders from the Specials board of crab soup and fried squid to start, then hake and plaice, both beautifully cooked. Decent bottle of Pinot Grigio. Lemon posset and ice cream to finish. Would definitely revisit if in the area.

Excellent food and service. We couldn’t have had a better evening. The waitress was so obliging and couldn’t have done more for us. Would definitely go back again.

Wow Wow Wow managed to book a table at the last minute. I was not feeling too well so only had the scampi main but they were the best scampi I have had for years.My wife however had the prawn cocktail to start, the fresh hake baked in the oven and the star of the show Chrissies homemade bread and butter pudding and she said it was the best meal she had had for ages. We have a mobile home and will be coming to West Bay again mainly to go to Seagulls . What a find!!

Really surprised with restaurant small but friendly maize the waitress was very helpful and have rebooked to go back in a couple of days the meals were great, hot ,well presented ,can't find fault in this restaurant would definitely recommend 😀 👌

A fabulous little restaurant food was absolutely delicious with pleasant staff. The steak in Guinness was beautiful and all fresh veggies were nicely cooked. Booked for tomorrow

We were visiting an elderly relative who lives locally. She booked a table for a Thursday night at 6.00pm. The restaurant was surprisingly busy considering how early it was. Staff all seemed very pleasant and helpful. The menu is not huge, but there's a range of dishes to suit most tastes. Fish features heavily as you would expect. We had 2 lamb shanks, and a steak. All were nicely presented, and delicious. Vegetables were fresh, and well cooked. We had 2 fudge cakes for dessert. The lady who took us couldn't manage one! These were lovely too, and came with pouring cream. A very pleasant experience overall and a nice atmosphere. My advice would be to book in advance, particularly during peak season and at weekends.

Seagulls in West Bay is a real find. We’ve been staying in the area for a week and have eaten there three times. The food is outstanding and the service perfect - courteous, helpful, friendly and polite, Seagulls is not a huge restaurant and last night was very busy - 22 covers. We were given a warm welcome, and were shown to our table by the very nice young lady who had be waiting on tables during each of our visits. She apologised that she was on her own but that she’d try not to keep us waiting too long. She did a great job making sure that everyone got what they wanted - she was the consummate processional,. We probably had to wait about five minutes longer than usual so no big deal. The food was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Thanks Seagulls for making our holiday so special - we’re already looking forward to coming back to you next year.

Very disappointed with this restaurants seemingly lack of interest in taking bookings. Tried to phone them twice with no reply so left a message & asked them to call back which they didn't. Called in person 2 days before my requested booking & my request had not been noted, girl I spoke to most unapologetic.

As a Michelin star chef myself, I was disappointed when the chef said he hadn’t got time to take my plaice off the bone! If he worked in my restaurant, I would have dismissed him immediately!

Saw all the great reviews of this restaurant for Sunday lunch and wow were weren't disappointed.! I pre booked and glad we did. Everyone was really friendly. I'm a fussy roast beef eater and prefer the beef well done not rare and the lovely waitress said all the beef was well done. It came out so tender.! They catered well for children. Made a child's roast dinner for my son and my youngest son enjoyed his chicken nuggets and chips.! The puddings were at a top standard too! Amazing sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and two scoops of ice cream. Other compliments are available too. Highly recommend The Seagull restaurant.!

Excellent restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff were wonderful.

Some ambient music in the background would benefit as it felt unwelcoming, the staff were very friendly and attentive, food was mediocre, £20 for a steak which was over cooked, but the vegetables were lovely! Seeing the pudding "board" being carried to each table and left in the middle of the floor really isn't a good idea, surely the waiting staff should know what pudding options there are? All in all it was a nice.

We loved the evening, not to busy, great food, the chef certainly knows taste and food. The service, yes young, but fully aware of the shop floor, were absolutely spot on. Wow and Thanks to the Seagull.

THIS IS NOT S REVIEW OF THE FOOD, BUT ONLY A REMARK. Very disappointed on a Thursday evening the restaurant was empty and didn’t accept us, because we have a very small dog “in her carrier bag”. The waitress with long hair, was brushing her hair while talking to us. The food may be nice, but we will not be able to put in our review book.

When ever we go to West bay we always go to seagulls We had Sunday lunch and once again we wasn't let down The roast beef melted in my mouth And would highly recommend people to give it a go

Best food we've had in a long time. Mushroom soup starter & pork belly main was delicious. Fairly priced for the quality of food. Restaurant could do with updating. Overall it was great and would definitely return.

The food and service was excellent, we came here for the Sunday roast and couldn’t choose a better place in West bay! The chicken with cream and mushrooms was also delicious! Highly recommended!

We have been coming to the restaurant at least once a year, more recently once a month, the staff are outstanding, and the food is excellent. I can thoroughly recommend Seagulls if you are ever in west bay to have a meal here. EDIT: It is now 2022, and we still continue to eat here every Month, you must try this Restaurant when ypu are in West Bay

The food is a lot better than the building looks inside or outside! Very friendly service and pleasant dinner at Seagulls.

Very pleasantly surprised. Service friendly and efficient, food not bad at all and reasonable portion size. Good range of choices. Prices about average and overall a nice experience. Went to Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis the evening after, both my wife and I felt we should have come back to Seagulls for a second helping instead. Half the price and just as good if not better.

Yesterday my husband and I had the roast rib of beef and grandson had sausages, chips and beans. All our meals were excellent. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. The best meal we have had in a restaurant for a very long time.

No frills, good honest food. Cheerful staff, prompt service. Would go again if I lived here.

WOW!!! Been to West Bay 6 times in the last few years, but tonight we found the best restaurant in the area. Service superb. Food delicious. One of the best meals we have ever had, and the prices are very reasonable. Many thanks for a perfect meal...we will return on our next trip.
