We sailed to Skipness Bay, anchored and took the dinghy to the beach. The short walk to the cabin took us past the smokehouse where there is a shop. The weather was unseasonably warm so we dined alfresco. The seafood platter for two arrived fairly quickly after ordering and it was fantastic! Langoustines, gravlax, crab, hot smoked salmon, mussels and a side of bread washed down with an Arran beer and a small Sancerre. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, a real gem in the Scottish food crown.

We've wanted to return here since we first visited 10 years ago. Wow, hasn't it changed! I had memories of a few outside tables and being reliant on the weather. Now there's a purpose built dining area (still has a little way to go, especially with the heating!) and table service. What hasn't changed is the warmth of the welcome and the quality of the food - just lovely. Had the seafood platter for 2, what a feast. 6 hours later it resulted in a very small snack tea. A destination place, but one we'll travel to again.

We had heard great things and because we love seafood it was a definite place for us to visit. The setting of Skipness Seafood Cabin is in the grounds of the estate and in very close proximity to the castle with marvellous views over to Arran. The journey from Campbeltown over to Skipness was so picturesque and we took in many breathtaking views. We arrived just before midday and sat at a seat inside, although there is an option to sit outside and look over to Arran, we sat inside but on a warm day I should imagine it is just wonderful to be sat outside with good food, drink, views and company. The drinks and food were served promptly and we were not disappointed, it was utterly delicious and so very, very fresh. I could have chosen a variety of things from the menu but we selected the seafood platter for two and our daughter had a homemade fish finger sandwich. You will be able you see the pure quality and freshness of the food from the photo provided. The staff were attentive, polite and accommodating. We will definitely return and would highly recommend to seafood and sea view lovers alike.

Went for lunch Sunday 3 weeks ago. Been thinking about whether, as a local, I should review this but it wasn’t a good experience. Arrived at 1.30. Busy but several tables free. We tried to order but was told they were having a 10 minute break in ordering. So ordered and paid at 1.45. During the 1hr30min wait we chatted to another couple. They asked when we ordered and we compared notes. Eventually they had to leave before their food came and they told the staff. As they were leaving the owner ran towards them and shouted loudly ‘you haven’t paid for your drinks’. They stopped and explained that they had…you can’t get drinks or food without paying. She then said ‘well you were told about the delay’ and they said they haven’t been. (We weren’t told about the delay). It was an embarrassing incident in full view of everyone. You can’t treat customers like that. Anyway they served at 3.15. The food was ok, average. The seafood isn’t really any better than you can get in most other shops and restaurants. The salmon and crab roles were ok but not special; the scallops were expensive, 3 with a tiny salad for £15 I think. And no special cooking, the server said they are cooked in ‘scallop powder’. The bread, extra charge, appears to be the part baked stuff you can get in any supermarket. Sad been there 3 times but that’s the last.

We've visited the cabin for years now in the summer and I absolutely love how little it's changed. The food is fresh, delicious and unpretentious, eaten at picnic tables with tremendous views over to Arran. We travel with our young son, who is autistic and loves seafood - the friendly, relaxed staff here put other bigger restaurants to shame with their no-fuss understanding and compassion. It's the little things, like serving us a wee bit quicker to help him manage waiting, and spotting if we need help. So much appreciated.

Called in here for lunch on Sunday, arrived about 11;45am and there were plenty of customers already eating and choosing their meals, I opted for the seafood platter, what I received can only be described as pathetic, 4 very small amounts of salmon in various states of cure as in a teaspoon full of each, 2 very small langustines, these should really have been left in the sea for another couple of years at least, a very small raw oyster, a teaspoon full of crab meat, 2 lettuce leaves, some red onion rings and a couple of slices of cucumber and that was it, bread to help fill you up was extra, it wasn't cheap, the coffee was decent, I ordered a seafood platter and got a child's meal deal instead, I have eaten here many times over the last 20 years but this was the last time.

Dear lord, what a find! Out on a random drive while on holiday just taking in the scenery. Girlfriend saw the sign and we've never whizzed around a corner so fast! 🤣 Perfect sunny day, amazing seafood platter (great price too). Lots of picnic tables so ended up chatting to fellow diners while we stuffed ourselves. Then a wander around the grounds, took a peek at the Smoke House. Well worth a cheeky lunchtime diversion!

Well, if you ever happen to be coming off the Kintyre Caledonian Macbraynes ferry from Lochranza on the Isle of Arran (I know I know, but still), instead of turning left and heading across the hills back to Tarbert, TURN RIGHT and follow the little road along the front of Loch Fyne towards "Skipness Castle". Only it is not the lovely gnarly old ramparts that you are looking for but the seafood cabin in the grounds outside! To hell with history for a moment, get your teeth into those fresh mussels. Bonnie Prince Charlie can wait, my stomach is rumbling. We were served by a nice lady with some degree of facial hair but, boy, could she cook mussels. They came in a creamy white wine sauce (kind of Scottish version of merniere) with a basket of bread and tasted like they had breathed their last little mussel breaths only minutes before. For Mr Vegan there was sadly only a Cheese bap, which he quite understandably turned down, but for those fully into sea creatures, there was a full variety of (quite pricy) little crustaceans, including king and queen scallops, which were tasty but sparse and completely overshadowed by the magnificent mussels. Delicious. The clincher, however, is the view from your picnic style table, a full eyeful of the loch as it flows between Kintyre and Arran, with the light fading over verdant fields and our hearts melting along with the last light of the day. Wash down with a good (but pricy) bottle of cold Sancerre and wonder why you live in the middle of a city when this kind of thing is on offer. Highly recommend. Go there immediately. (Castle optional)

Just beyond the Lochranza to Claonaig ferry down a single track road but well worth the journey. Tables outside with Skipness Castle and a view of Arran. There is some covered seating inside but as the weather was nice we opted for outside. I had the seafood platter which was delicious. Poached, cold and hot smoked salmon, gravalax ,2oysters,2 langoustine and a bowl of mussels. The mussels were hot in a delicious sauce. Everything was perfect with a lovely selection of dressings ( especially the mustard dressing put on the gravalax). The bread was fresh and soaked up the juices. A lovely rustic way to have fresh seafood and not outlandishly priced for what we had.

We love this place and always make it a “must” stop on our annual five ferries tour. We have been coming for around 25 years. The seafood especially the oyster was lovely and as usual the views and atmosphere were tremendous. Only one small gripe the quantity on the seafood platter seems to have shrunk and some of it replaced with a not too wonderful salad. I will be back and hope the platter can be restored to past glory.

the location, the drive to the location, the walk, the surroundings, Hector the calf... But the seafood... the relaxed atmosphere, the staff and the seafood, oh the seafood.... we will be back

'Go to Skipness seafood cabin, it's nice', said the owner of our holiday cottage. I had words with him when I got back. Nice? Nice? It's not nice. It's only incredibly stunning. If you visit only one seafood eatery in Scotland this year, make it this one. It's through the village of Skipness and in the car park of the house beside Skipness Castle. It serves the freshest, tastiest seafood to a dining room the likes of which I challenge Tripadvisor contributors to match. That dining room is outside on the waterfront with a backdrop of majestic mountains and Skipness Castle. We had to wait over an hour for food, but we would have waited two or even three. There's no reason to worry about time when you have a breathtaking view the likes of which this place offers. My wife and I went for the shared seafood platter with drinks and bread - lots of bread. The platter contained smoked salmon, gravadlax, crab, scallops, oysters, mussels, salad, accompaniments and sauces - you get the picture. We had coffee and cake afterwards as we sat and enjoyed the atmosphere of a packed outdoor eating area. I'm not sure how some on here could find fault with this place. It is absolutely one of the most beautiful spots on Earth, serving gorgeous, gorgeous food. The staff work hard and are friendly to the nth degree. I went to pay the bill and discovered they were operating the 'Eat out to help out' initiative. They hadn't flagged this up beforehand. I would gladly have paid full price as there can be no argument with the quality of food, service or cost. As I said earlier, if there is one seafood cabin to visit in Scotland, it's this one. We will definitely visit again - hopefully before this trip ends - but if not, then next year.

Great venue and very popular for travelling foodies - all random furniture and plates etc very contemporary. Fantastic location overlooking bay and extension of large house.Great value for tea and cake and worth visit for that alone. Seafood was impressive but expensive for what it was and not too filling.Go for tea and cake!

This is an absolute hidden gem of a place! I had done some research before our trip and decided we definitely needed to go here. Only 25 minute scenic drive from Tarbert and the most wonderful setting with views of Skipness Castle as well as the waterfront. We shared a plate of oysters (6) and each had a fish finger roll. It was so fresh and delicious and so reasonably priced too. Highly recommend for seafood fans!

Our first time back post covid. We both felt completely comfortable with eating al fresco on a lovely sunny day. Tables were well spaced and ordering/service of the food was properly organised. We arrived early in view of the website warning that service would be slower but were pleasantly surprised that things were leisurely but not slow. Waiting staff did a great job putting out extra tables later and cleaning used tables to keep the queue moving. The seafood platter was excellent as always as was the plate of langoustines. Prices have hardly moved since we started coming here 5 or 6 years ago. An icemaking machine would not go amiss but everything else was first rate.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
