We booked to have a meal based on family recommendation of the excellent food. We arrived to find the live music was so loud even in the dining room that you could not hear a conversation shouted in your ear from 3 inches away. We left disappointed without a meal as we could not enjoy a meal due to the volume. I felt so sorry for the poor staff trying to do their job, having to shout at customers over the volume. While the band were good- it would be advisable to have a door between the live music and restaurant so people can enjoy a conversation with their meal.

Was a little shocked that dogs were allowed in the dinning room for the evening food sitting . It says dog friendly but it’s not really hygienic and perhaps there should be just one area for dogs to eat . Food was ok , good portions. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful which makes up for many shortcomings. It all could do with a spruce up, from paint peeling off walls , grubby carpets, dirty skirting boards , maybe too many dogs. Location by the beach good Our room was small , bed very clean and comfortable , but a bit tatty in general. Carpet a little grubby. The bathroom small, nowhere to hang a towel. Not sure we would stay again

I was planning a special weekend away, the hotel was very good at one point came to my rescue. Check in was very good, room was as I hoped, due to the planning +an extra on there side. Well done. The next day we went out early to do the Whitehaven parkrun and placed the service room notice on the door. When we got back nothing was done, we asked at reception but told new guest came first, which we thought was ok. Got back early evening and room still not done. On enquiring the staff had gone home, so we had to collect clean towels and new refreshments and take them to the room, not what I wanted. Saturday night/Sunday morning the fire alarm went off, we went outside and a member of staff ( male ) was very rude to me and my friend. The alarm was turned off after about 5 mins. No explanation. We didn't book breakfast for Sunday but they ket use have one, it was very nice.

We booked one night at the Seacote Hotel after a trip on the Ratty Railway to save us driving home on the same day and it was just what we needed at a very reasonable price for bed and breakfast. (One person's review on here recently seems to show that they have too high expectations and are very picky) The hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the bay with the Isle of Man in the distance, the beach is two minutes walk and St Bees Head is just a few minutes walk. You also may get lovely sunsets. The hotel is friendly, homely and clean. Our double room was small but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was also clean and the shower was excellent. We had a beautiful sea view. (Some may not appreciate a rail with only four or five hangers instead of a wardrobe - can only speak for that one room) The parking is in a designated part of the large public car park but is right next to the hotel and you are given a pass for the length of your stay. The staff (especially those on reception) are very friendly and helpful. Some of the young waiters and waitresses could have been a little bit more attentive ( At the evening meal I had to go and get my own condiments as the waiters weren't on the lookout or being proactive) The breakfast, in a separate dining area, was freshly prepared and waiter/waitress served. I had the full Cumbrian and it was lovely. The evening meals were served in a separate bar area off the pubic bar. There was an excellent choice of home cooked food. I had the pie of the week which was Steak and Stilton with chips and veg. A good portion and very tasty. It would have been enough on its own but for the sake of being able to review for the walking group which I belong to I also had the sticky toffee pudding which was good. Evening meals were a little pricey but then everything has increased in price and for home cooked food it was probably pretty good value. All in all excellent position and area for walking and access to Western Lake District, great value, clean and friendly. Would stay again and for longer

Myself & my husband attended a wedding here & had a lovely stay in one of the refurbished rooms. It was spotlessly clean with very comfortable bed. The real highlight for this hotel was all the fantastic staff who were really friendly & nothing was too much trouble for them especially the lovely lady who cleans the rooms. We will definitely be returning in the future.

We booked the seacote hotel for our stay in September, When we arrived there was very limited parking space at the hotel and no Disabled parking at all , You are parking in a council run parking area so the hotel has to provide you with a voucher to display in your car, The rooms can be quite difficult to get to as the lift only goes to first floor then it’s up steps and along corridors with no actual directions provided or displayed on the walls , The room was nice and had been updated but the tv was only about a 20 inch screen and hard to see from the bed , The bathroom had a walk in shower unfortunately the toilet did make quiet a lot of noise when refilling the cistern and also only left one toilet roll , The bathroom was let down by not having a bin and no sanitary bags for ladies to use and the ceiling fan was very dusty and dirty this could be a fire hazard as it is not getting enough air , The room was not cleaned on the second day we stayed but bed was made, We did not eat in the Resturant/Bar so cannot comment on food or drinks there , We did have a very nice breakfast both mornings that consisted of cereal tea/ coffee yogurt and juice followed by a freshly made cooked breakfast, The staff in the breakfast room where very friendly and always helpful , You also get a nice view of the sea and beach from the breakfast room, Unfortunately the rest of the hotel needs a lot of attention as there are a lot of damp patches in the corridor ceilings and some poorly fitted doors , if the parking and other areas as stated above where addressed this could be a nice hotel , but as of September 2023 I would not stay again .

Plan was to have dinner and stay one night. Messaged directly after using Booking.com to ensure there was disabled parking and the room was accessible. Detailed that one guest had mobility issues and they used a rollator walking frame. The reply stated ‘We are pleased to let you know that the accommodation has confirmed they will be able to arrange this for you. There will be no extra charge for this request.’ We arrived to be told there was only disabled parking in the local car park. It’s not far of you are able bodied so got a few dirty looks for letting my passenger out at the door of the hotel (which has plenty space for disabled parking or a drop off) The welcome was not welcoming. Think the chap was too tired. Asked about getting some food and were told the restaurant was full. We were warned about this online so no big deal. Chip shop 10 mins away had a brilliant team. The hotel was not accessible with uneven floors and tight turns. The toilet and shower were no good to someone with mobility issues. The best bit was being told where to go for breakfast (included in room rate) yes you guessed it… it was up a flight of stairs! Breakfast was not an option!! Unless you can sit in a chairlift and drag/bump your wheels with you? So the only person we interacted with who was actually pleasant was the lady at check out. I felt sorry for her when she asked how our stay was and I just had to say… different…but…not in a good way :( If you are a bunch of young stag or hen and want a basic cheap place to stay go for it. Oh I missed a highlight sorry… the guy in the beer garden flashing his butt… so there was that!

We were not expecting much for the price as we stayed at Seacote hotel purely as a stop off to break up a long journey. However, we were very pleasantly surprised! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was basic but very clean and had everything we needed. I travel every week for work so I am used to budget hotels, I was expecting Seacote to be akin to these budget places purely because the price was so low, but I was wrong! Very happy with our stay, really enjoyed the beautiful sea view too!

Wow £17 for Sausage and mash, £4.40 a pint, sorry but this isn't acceptable for pub food, I'm not sure who is cooking now but it's gone downhill. We visit here regularly and usually visit every day, whilst in St Bees, few pints and a meal but after our last visit we'll be giving it a miss.

I stayed at the Seacote Hotel for 3 nights. It has a nice homely feel to it and is only a short walk from the beach which is great. I didn't use the restaurant during my stay here so I can't comment on that, but the bar is very nice. The room was the very clean and spacious and the shower was amazing (perfect and relaxing after a day swimming in the sea or on the beach) the staff are lovely too and clearly care about the guests that stay at the Seacote Hotel. The only complaint I have was that the room I was in was right above the bar toilets and I could hear the hand dryer from my room, even with the windows shut and it was on and off until midnight most nights. Other than the noise below I enjoyed my stay here and if I ever come to St Bees again I will probably stay here.

Wonderful staff the owner should be very proud of them, very large room with 3 windows all looking out to sea, lovely decor and super bathroom. A very dog friendly hotel and our fur babies were fussed by everyone which they loved, it has a very welcome lift if stairs are a problem, our luggage was taken to our room for us by a friendly young man. The price for this hotel is very reasonable and dogs are charged £10 per night. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, I just wish it was closer to home as at 80 years old my husband found the journey from Wales quite hard driving.

This is our third time here and what was a nice hotel is now a lovely welcoming establishment. The make over has made such a difference. The lounge is delightful with its new decor carpets and furnishings. We have always found the staff wonderful, helpful, polite and nothing has been too much trouble for them. I presume some of the negative comments were the result of fallout from covid. The food is basic pub food but extremely well cooked and presented. No complaints from me and I am the first to say when something is wrong. Bar prices are quite high but in keeping with other hotels we have stayed in. We were staying in the hotel for 2 nights and ate here both nights. It was our first trip away after lockdown so we were keen to see how the new processes worked. Our servers all wore face masks/visors as appropriate and all surfaces were cleaned thoroughly. Hand gel dispensers were at the door for exit and entry and a one way system was in operation in the bar area. The hotel asks everyone to wear face coverings in public areas which we were happy to do, removing our masks when we were sitting down at the table. Food was lovely, homely food cooked perfectly and served beautifully. We went into the restaurant on the first night and stayed in the bar on the second. I had the Gammon steak with pineapple fried egg, salad and peas, whilst my husband had the steak chips and mushroom. Second night we both had the fish and chips with salad and peas. All dishes were great and exactly what we wanted. We had a few beers ( husband), and gin and tonics, (me), which were good and well priced. Overall excellent food and service. We felt very safe, as all tables were booked at reception and well spaced apart so plenty of room around us. Obviously we are all learning about the new processes and will get used to wearing masks as time goes on, but the staff here were implementing the new procedures very well and we would be very happy to return.

Stayed over in hotel after golfing on the coast. Checked in, quick shower, a few games of darts and a few pints before heading into the village. Breakfast in the morning was fine, staff were friendly and helpful. The view out our window would've been nice hadn't it been for the horrid weather! Great location and well priced.

11 of my family had the pleasure of staying here over new year, The Seacote building is a little tired but the staff were more than happy to show off the modernisation of the hotel which is underway as I write this. Some of our group were initially in the older rooms, but we had a lovely surprise when Sue in reception asked if we would like to upgrade our rooms at no extra charge, the new rooms were bright, airy, very warm and modern, the staff quickly departed the rooms and our moves were made with no fuss. During our stay we all ate 8 tines in the hotel, and each meal was truly excellent, fast service and well presented by nice happy staff. Our evenings were spent in the bar area as the weather was not too good and we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who clearly take a great deal of pride in their hotel and are very excited with the ongoing improvements. have to say a special mention to Sue on Reception and Joe who along with all the other staff for making our stay such an enjoyable experience, so much so we are all returning for the same dates in 2018. Thank you Seacote

Had two dishes from the new veggie menu, easily best veggie in Cumbria. Wife had spinach and cheese stuffed ravioli, I had quinoa and nut loaf, would highly recommend.

We stayed across the street for one night, getting ready for the C2C. Nothing special about the place, though the food was good, service a little slow. Main thing was the location: close to the B&B;, with good food.

Didnt stay in this hotel but ate here. Food was excellent. We had bar meal and also had Sunday carvary which was excellent. Bar meal was a prawn sandwich, wasnt expecting much when it arrived it was lovely, also accompanied by salad and chips. Sunday carvery is not for the faint hearted lots of choice. I believe they have recently changed chef which has made a big difference as my parents ate here on a visit a couple of months ago and they said the food was atrocious.

We had decided to take a trip to Saint Bees to visit the beach and have a wander only around as the weather wasn't particularly brilliant we decided to get something to eat before heading back, this wasn't an easy task as the limited pubs only started serving food at 6:00 pm which was a little late for us. So this place was recommended to us as serving food all day as you enter the building it looks tired and in need of a lot of TLC, but despite this we still decided to give them a go. We both ordered lasagne which came with salad and garlic bread, the garlic bread was rock hard and the salad was a mix of leaves celery pepper all finally chopped up no dressing or tomatoes. The lasagne although a large portion was absolute slop I couldn't even tell what the meat was or the congealed which I assume was meant to be the cheese sauce, it was meant to come with chips but these had to be ordered separately and honestly I wouldn't have bothered they tasted like they had been cooked in old cooking oil! If you're looking for somewhere that serves edible food than avoid this place at all costs, it may be cheap but even that amount is far too much to pay......

Only visited because our 1st choice of eating establishment was fully booked. Went for a bar snack, but bar did not look very inviting when we walked in. Really needs a bit of tlc. Wasn't expecting too much. Food was only average. If we had gone earlier in week we would not have returned.

We visited for a family lunch while staying near St Bees. The first vague warning bell was when we saw how long the menu was - page after page of choices, which is rarely a good sign in my experience, but the choice of places to eat in St Bees is limited and I thought well how bad can it really be? - worse than I could ever have imagined was the answer. I ordered the grilled salmon served with charlotte potatoes, seasonal veg and a lemon butter. I received a fillet of crumbed salmon which was seemed as though it may have been straight from the freezer but was at least vaguely edible. This was actually served with rice, one very sad tiny shrivelled up potato, some mange tout and peas that looked (and tasted) as though they had been cooked 2 days earlier, and a strawberry??!! Oh and the lemon butter was a jug of some sort of curdled sour tasting sauce which was luckily served on the side. While I do like good food, I am not a particularly fussy eater and will usually manage to eat most things that are put in front of me, even if not particularly nice. This meal however turned my stomach and I only managed a few mouthfuls. This was the same for everyone else in our group of 8 adults. Three people ordered the 'chicken stack' which was described as a chicken and bacon stack. What they were served was a a few lumps of chicken swimming in a bowl of what seemed to be the same creamy curdled sauce as was on the side of my salmon. The food was absolutely disgusting and we left eight fairly untouched plates. My husband had the fish & chips which he felt was 'passable'. I honestly could not have imagined it was possible to be served food this bad in 2017. It was as thought they had just put together whatever random ingredients they had in the kitchen to try and cobble together some meals. The two children's meals (fish fingers) came covered in salt. And several of the glasses provided for the drinks were dirty. It really was the worst meal we have ever eaten. It really is such a shame as the hotel is in a fantastic location and with a bit of an investment and the right chef and menu, could be made into a destination lunch spot.

I'm not from the area but when I'm visiting, I often make a bee-line for this place as a treat. It's quite pricey and portions aren't huge but the chips are possibly the best I've ever had. Delicious again on a recent visit. Great stuff.

Not great. Toastie was only just acceptable. Table and chairs really need to be clean. Usually Costa is reliable and snacks eg. toasties are lovely. Not so at this one. Sadly.

The Bridge cafe in Millom has a sign advising that it has temporarily closed down. To be honest, having looked through the window it doesn’t look as though it’s likely to reopen anytime soon. The Trackside on the station is a fantastic alternative.

Unfortunately yet again The Peddler has been let down by the same rude member of staff that we have dealt with a few times. We were greeted by this lady shouting from across the room asking how many seats we need. When it was explained there would be 4 adults and room for two prams the waitress looked disgusted and barely checked before telling us they couldn’t accommodate us. The restaurant was empty and there was ample room for prams around all tables. The attitude of this member of stuff is always disgraceful, and everything seems to be too much of an ask. We’ve been to The Peddler numerous times and we will not be returning which is a shame as one person has ruined the reputation. Nearly £100 spent elsewhere.
