Proper village pub, small enough to care yet big enough to cope. The bitter was stunning, the real log fire an attraction (despite it being unseasonably warm) but the big winner here is the pizzas - delivered from a van in the car park. It's small but worth seeking out. Please note: cash only!!

This is a fantastic wee pub, great selection of beers at a very reasonable price. The bar staff are very friendly and efficient. This is a pub as pubs should be.

We arrived on a very busy night as they seemed to have a large party in. We didn't have to wait though and we were sat at the time we booked. We had the sharing plate to start. This was all homemade and very tasty and very large. After the starters we were asked if we would like to move to a corner table with 4 seats rather than a 2 seater in the middle, it was a very thoughtful gesture as we were in a quieter area. Main arrived and it was large to say the least, I had the chicken burger and my husband the chicken bites. It was all very tasty but we couldn't eat it all and next time probably wouldn't have a starter. We will definitely visit again. I did notice other people's food which all looked lovely and the atmosphere very good, just a little noisy but there was a large party in. The service was excellent and they checked on us at each stage and refreshed our drinks. Thank you for a lovely evening.

What an absolute delight our visit to Papa's Fish and Chips in Retford was! From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. I ordered the classic fish and chips which was nothing short of perfection. The fish was incredibly fresh with a crispy, golden batter that crackled with each bite, while remaining light and not at all greasy. The chips were thick-cut, fluffy on the inside and wonderfully crisp on the outside - exactly how proper British chips should be! My wife decided on the donor kebab, which she absolutely raved about! The meat was succulent and flavorful, served with fresh salad and a delicious sauce that complemented the dish beautifully. The portions were generous, the prices reasonable, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The staff were attentive and friendly throughout our meal, making sure everything was to our satisfaction. Cleanliness was also top-notch, which is always reassuring when dining out. If you're in Retford and craving either traditional fish and chips or a tasty kebab, look no further than Papa's! We'll definitely be returning on our next visit to the area. A hidden gem that deserves all the praise!
