The food was decent and the service was good. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and would recommend it to others. The full breakfast is good value for money and it is not too pricey.

You would think they would be expensive for take away rolls but no 2 rolls on square sausage is £3.20 and its big slices that fill the roll. They also cook them properly so its a 15-20 min wait unlike other places that have them on heated hotplates all day long and you need a drill to break into them lol

Very good for takeaway rolls on sausage! Real butter real brown sauce sausage fills the rolls. £3.20 for 2 which is 20p dearer than Julie's kitchen on Glasgow rd but their sausage is small, brown sauce is bad, and if you get butter its tasteless, and the cold drinks are not cold cause they keep the fridge turned down. Rolls are good but for 20p more its a different class in scruples and they cook them fully so expect to wait 15mins or so.....

First time ever been in this small cosy restaurant. Lovely staff serving delicious home made chicken soup, warm homemade fruit scones with clotted cream and jam and a pot of tea. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend this lovely wee place.

There is a wide selection of food and cakes. The home-made soup is excellent and served with very fresh bread. The sandwiches are also prepared freshly and there is a wide selection of fillings. This is a little gem and well visited by locals. The staff are very friendly and service is excellent.

what a lovley little cafe, the decor is very welcoming, the atmosphere inside is just perfect at making you almost feel at home. the home baking is very tasty as is the lentil soup. we were rather late getting there however the lady was happy to serve us and didn't make us feel rushed at all. My only criticism is that the chairs could be a little comfier.

Went to football match in Dumbarton yesterday & was looking for something edible rather than the standard stodge available at football grounds. Being a stranger in town, I was just wandering around looking & was on the point of buying a sandwich at the Co-op when I noticed this place &thought I'd take a chance. First impression was how tidy & clean the cafe was even though several tables were filled & staff were busy. Second was the staff who were smiling , welcoming & chatty. Never a hint of the problems earlier reviews report. On perusing the menu & boards, I discovered several all-day breakfast options, 4 types of home made soup & a large selection of sndwiches, baguettes & panini. I plumped for a hot chicken baguette & a large Americano. I was given the option of getting the coffee immediately or waiting for the baguette to be prepared, I find this rare as most places simply dump a hot drink on the table then 10 minutes later the food arrives but the coffee is lukewarm. On this occasion I asked for the coffee straight away & was glad I did as this was the best Americano I have ever had in a cafe, it was not the watery offering often served but the way I would make it at home, a genuine coffee flavour. I enjoyed it so much I had to order a refill when my food arrived. Baguette was excellent; well filled & covered with melted cheese & served with a green salad & coleslaw - all excellent. On finishing my meal I visited the toilet which was also immaculate & well appointed. The sole drawback of Scruples is that it is a little hidden. As I was leaving the rail station I spoke to a man & his son who were looking for food but went in the opposite direction, I was merely lucky in turning the right way. Perhaps an advertisement at the station exit would help. Well done to the staff, I enjoyed my visit very much.

We sent 2 of the 3 dishes back - an under cooked baked potato and an all day veggie breakfast (veggie sausage was still a little frozen). Also one of the toast slices had a slight bit of jam on it - obviously using the same knife for multiple jobs. The waitress was not impressed to hear us complain and disappeared into the kitchen. Our food came back just a few minutes later - veggie sausage cooked but my potato was a soggy mush. I was told their potato's were not done in the microwave at all so I complained again and the owner herself came out of the kitchen. I was given a lot of attitude and told that she had lost money on my meal and was not happy with me. I was also told it was unreasonable to expect a BAKED potato not to be done in the microwave even though I said I had asked specifically before ordering if it would be microwaved. She didn't care I had been lied to and said she won't be doing me any more food or offering an alternative. My friends quickly ate their food while I watched and we left.

Scruples has to be one of the nicest looking cafes in Dumbarton, The food is great and the prices are reasonable but this is totally undermined by the unfriendly, rude and obnoxious staff. I was made to feel like I was nuisance just for ordering food. I will not be returning to scruples and I would not recommend it to anyone else unless of course you like poor customer service and being insulted.

Stopped in here for lunch with family after visiting Dumbarton Castle. It's two minutes drive away on Wallace Street (from Castle Drive go left on Castlegreen and right on Wallace) and was recommended by the attendant at the caste. The service was good and the food was very nice. They have soup and sandwiches and cooked breakfast all day plus tea and coffee. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and there were lots of customers including some locals but no other kids. Nice spot for lunch on cold November day.

Scruples is a small cafe/bistro near Dumbarton Castle. It serves breakfasts, lunches and there is a pasta night. The food is average and basics like soup are overpriced for a cafe. The service can be very slow at times particularly if you are on a lunch break. Some staff have a terrible attitude towards customers which has resulted in some regular customers not returning.
