As the name implies, Scotts is located right in Princes Street Gardens. I can’t speak to the food here, but we had a stellar experience. My daughter got an ice cream cone and my wife and I each grabbed a pint of some nice Swedish beer (£5 each). Here’s the thing about this place: Around back are comfortable folding beach chairs on the grassy hillside. You get a free hour rental of the chairs with any cafe purchase. So you can sit back amid the tranquility of the park and drink a beer while gazing up at one of the best possible views of Edinburgh Castle which exist. This is the way to go after a log day seeings the sights of the city. It is hard to beat in terms of relaxing spots to drink a beer.

I had a lovely cheese and ham Arancini ball and they heated it up for me . Kids had slush pups £2 each for small but they actually were quite big looking to me, cone of small chips £2.50. We had a sugar donut and cookie which were average really . The gluten free Belgian choc brownie was lovely . Coffee nice . Of course expect to pay more for the location but it’s handy to have it there . Would do well to have a kids meal deal here like a slush and chips or home baking etc for a set price . Park within eyesight of the seating here and plenty of additional benches around and of course the grass when it’s dry . Public toilets a 2 min walk away . Train bridge 30 sec walk away to wave and watch the trains go under .

Have eaten here a few times with the kids and always disappointing. Bog standard deep fried offerings and the burgers are dreadful. Expensive into the bargain and Scotts just capitalises on tourists and the location. Walk a little further and you can find much better places to grab a bite to eat , drink or an ice-cream. Avoid.

Visited in November. Got a questionable hot dog, awful fries and two cookies. It was expensive but for location you accept. The cookies although sold as cookies were apparently not cookies. Some kind of Italian biscuit sold as a cookie. Kids hated them but there you go. Hot dog was over priced and lacking taste, the fries were hard and inedible. I can only assume they were reheated but the quality was very poor. I did raise at time but the customer is not always right. Would not go back under any circumstances

We went for a lunchtime snack. I opted for the Cheeseburger and my wife the Chicken Burger. I think the staff, who seemed affable enough, were minimalists as what we got was literally a Scotch Roll with a burger, with cheese on it, or a chicken burger. No salad and no sauce. It was so bad, I now wish I'd taken an image of them to demonstrate just how pathetic they looked! For that, we paid £5 for the Cheeseburger and £4.50 for the Chicken Burger. We'd considered going to the Costa, across the other side of Princes Street, but passed it up as we thought this place would be better value. We won't be making that mistake again!

Explained my problem - one young blonde Scottish worker apologetic and explained they were busy. Ok, just serve me next!! Staff member (supervisor? ?) butted in "We are very busy, you need to be patient". Stopped off for a diet coke and a hot dog. I went to pay and was told it was over £5I asked how much was the diet coke (can) no glass. £1.60 the chap replied the lady behind the counter was on her mobile and not interested in serving anyone. I asked again the price of the Diet Coke as I have never paid £1.60 for a DC from a shop before. I said to the chap can you check the price and he said yep £1.60 Hmm I said to the lady in the queue you know its £1.60 for DC oh why so expensive she replied she was waiting in the queue to buy 30 cans for the coach party of kids. She made a hasty exit. I said to the chap to give the owners a heads up and let them know £1.60 is double the price it should be. Then he says even I wouldn't buy from here well that says it all. then he served the hot dog and I asked where is my can he said you would need to get it yourself round the corner! I thought at least for £1.60 you would get it delivered on the counter. Sat down on the chairs and out of the 8 seats available there was only one other table being used. Two French students who were arguing over something then it transpired that they two were moaning about the price because just 1hr before they paid 80p in another place. Stopped in off Princes Street to the xmas market today, and on entering the market seen the billboard advertising Scotts fish and chips, with prices and photos of presumably the food they serve. Both my wife and i ordered fish and chips.......now at £4.95 each we were not expecting a huge portion, but we did expect 'traditional chip shop fare', ie proper chips and maybe a wee fillet of Haddock dipped in their own homemade batter. What we got was tiny 'french fry' type pre-frozen chips, the ones at £1.50 for a huge bag from Lidl or the likes, and a small fillet of pre-frozen, pre-battered fish, straight out of a box, the type you get from Iceland or Asda !!Now i'm not familiar with Scotts actual fish n chip shops as i'm not from Edinburgh, but surely they dont sell rubbish like that in them ?That cost us approx £10 for roughly £2.50 worth of food, i now wish i had went to any of the other stalls selling food. What we received was nothing like the picture on the billboard advertising their business !Absolute rip-off , i feel for the tourists if they think that is what a traditional Scottish fish n chip shop sells !

Great spot for a quick drink and a treat. Been there several times and never been disappointed. Although it's usually a very busy place, staff are doing their best and always provide great service. Never had proper breakfast/lunch, but coffee and ice-cream are great here. Not to mention the jazzy music!

We been absolutely pleased with superb service and great food. Can't find any better to be so central. Specially thanks for the guy with a beard who made our day. Very chatty and bubbly told as some great places to visit. Nailed it.

A coffee and a snack to go with an iconic view of Edinburgh Old Town always served with smiles and an unusually great selection of jazz music. Couldn't ask for much more. I make a point to stop at Scott's kiosk when I am in Edinburgh. Usually a table to sit comfortably and people watch and if the day is a bit wet there are also tables under cover. Will be back. Thanks.

I was there for a quick snack in Jul'2014. What a great place in the heart of Edinburgh! Great ice cream, good coffee, fantastic spot.

This place was great. We just left the park and were looking for something to eat. We happened to spot this little place and we loved it. It was great for a light snack and coffee, music and friendly staff :)

I went there a few days ago for a quick bite. I had a late and a cookie. Customer service that I've experience was really good. Compared to other places, the coffee was one of the better ones that I had. I would recommend this place for people if they want to get a good coffee.

My very young children and I had a shocking experience with the manager at this store today after being sorely misunderstood then treated like animals; we walked away genuinely floored at the way we had been treated, and physically pushed out of the store. In hindsight I regret not standing my ground and waiving my rights in the power-hungry lion’s face. I will be delighted to never return nor give our recommendation to any friends or family. So long, Hotel Chocolat.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

Popped in for a pint en route to the Taylor Swift gig at Murrayfield. It can be found at the west end of Princes Street, just as you start walking down Queensferry Road. To be honest, our pints weren’t amazing. Two of us opted for the Pravha and found them a bit flat and sickly. A real shame, because the selection of draughts on offer was great and the pub itself had a nice traditional feel to it. Cost wise, by far the cheapest round of the day but for quality, one of the weakest.
