Food a touch overpriced (pub food at hotel prices), but to be expected. Room pretty decent, lovely location, overall a good experience.

I don’t know where to begin. The prices for the quality of the food are way out. I mentioned the chips with my steak tasted odd. Being a qualified chef (although out of the industry for many years), I mentioned I thought the oil the chips were cooked in may be burnt. I was offered another portion of chips… not sure if the waiter understood what I had just pointed out! Ordered a chocolate fondant for desert. You know how when you cut into one it should ooze chocolate from the middle? No… it was completely solid and clearly done in a microwave. I gave up, got the bill and went back to my less than clean room to ponder the cob webs, dirty bathroom mirror and very odd, old pillows that were sticking out of the undersized pillow cases! Make your own mind up. This place could be so nice, but completely misses the mark. Sad.

No drinks order taken at the table, had to go to bar and get own drinks. Waiter trying to tell me how I should have my steak? No condiments offered. Then no dessert menu offered so we left and paid at the bar. Also you need a code to exit carpark 2205. It is not a steakhouse when only 1 steak is available at £26.

Rooms still jaded after our last visit which was 4 years ago. Restaurant food was disgraceful. Poor choice and badly cooked. Restaurant staff were marvellous. I feel sorry that they are let down by the kitchen.

I ordered 1 medium pizza and 4 doughnuts online at 20:48. 37 minutes later at 21:25 the online tracker showed that the pizza had not yet been placed in the oven. I telephoned Papa Johns Penwortham to chase the order, but they did not answer, so I telephoned a second time to be told it would take 20 minutes. Arriving at 22:02, Papa Johns took a total of 1 hour and 14 minutes to deliver 1 medium pizza and 4 doughnuts a distance of 1.9 miles. As a uniformed representative of Papa Johns the delivery person arrived late, dirty, his jeans threadbare, in stocking feet - walking around outside, in the dark, without shoes. I am curious to know where that ranks on the official FSA food hygiene rating scale. The pizza itself was cold on arrival and swimming in grease.
