Saxon King in Southend-on-Sea

Great Easter Monday at the Saxon king with all the family (well most of us) made even better by the great service from Vicky. She was very much on the ball as I'd already marked on the booking there was nut allergies on the table as well as gluten. Everything was made to suit the recipient. Food was hot and tasty. Atmosphere and surroundings were lovely.

Millie was a lovely young lady very attentive polite and helpful.

Amazing place, as soon as I walked in I felt welcome 😊We came here on a whim for my mums birthday meal, Vicky walked us to our table, she was very friendly and professional. Reece made our drinks and they were absolutely lovely, very tasty! The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Highly recommend this place and special thanks to Reece and Vicky for making my mums birthday very special 😊

First visit to the Saxon King for an early dinner. Food was good but special praise should go to our server Millie who was attentive, polite and all with a smile.

We had the pleasure of being served by Vicky at The Saxon King, and she made our visit truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, she greeted us with a warm smile and friendly demeanor, instantly making us feel welcome. This was my first time at The Saxon King and I was impressed. Vicky our server was lovely and very attentive and the food was tasty and well cooked. The only things to note were my friends and I thought the food on the lunchtime menu was slightly lacking in variety, the amount of custard provided with my friends’ crumble was rather miserly and they had run out of any kind of dairy free milk advertised so I couldn’t have a coffee. These are all minor points though and all three of us said we would definitely come back again.

A family party of 8. Friendly, efficient and attentive, but not over-bearing, service, good food and pleasant atmosphere in the bar and restaurant area.

Our first time to the Saxon King and we will be back! customer service was second to none and the staff all very friendly. Food very nice not a huge menu but there is good choices. Megan our waitress was very good and was very attentive. Look forward to coming back to Saxon King very soon.

Sarah served us and was extremely bubbly and helpful and was on hand to take our order promptly.

We thought the place itself was very nice and it was very busy, the bar staff were helpful and we booked meals for 4 adults and a toddler under two. In terms of the food itself it was very good but the service to get the food to us was appalling. The server first brought out the one starter which the lady asked for it to be brought out with her main. We all then waited for about 30 mins. Then the same lady's main came out and no sign of the rest of the tables meals, by this time our toddler was getting restless. When we complained the server said he would sort it out and we didn't see him again for about another 30mins so by the time we finally got our mains the first lady of the group had eaten hers and then was left sitting watching us. Although it was a busy night the floor servers could have done more and didn't even say sorry. I do like this pub and would go again but will be keeping an eye on service.

We came here for mother's day and Sarah was our waiter, she was great! The service is quick and efficient, the food is amazing and the waiters are super friendly. We came with our dog and our baby and they were super accommodating when we needed extra space or other things.

I go into the Saxon King every Monday evening as part of a group with Andy’s Man Club and each week I am served by Vicky. Her service is outstanding every week and she makes the most delicious hot drinks! On the rare occasion Vicky is not on shift it is hugely noticeable! She is part of the reason we come back here every week! Ross

The food was average but there was nowhere near enough staff, the poor girl behind the bar was also taking all our food orders and we were a table of 11, without everyone else in there. We were in there 2 hours and most of us only got one course so we paid and left, won't be going back

Lovely lunch while catching up with family

It was our first time visiting here, we had vicky as our waitress and she was lovely, made us feel welcome. She was happy to have a chat with us and didn't try to get away to do other things, she is a true gem to the saxon king

Just wanted to commend Sarah for her friendly service during our visit. Very pleasant and an asset to the team. The food was good and we shall certainly return in the future. If there’s a criticism, it’s for another diner who seemed to think we’d all enjoy listening to their private FaceTime conversation. Some people have no manners! Totally not the fault of the Saxon King or its staff - it’s just a shame that they can’t confiscate some guests phones to save them from themselves…

The Sunday roastvwas excellent, the potatoes, parsnips and yorkshire pudding anazing. Vicky was very attentive and friendly. Would have given 5 stars but the heatingvappeared to be off.

Amazing food and amazing service, super friendly and attentive, atmosphere was great! Our host was Sarah, we highly recommend the Camembert which has just been added to the menu, it was bigger than the both of us put together!

We came here on a Tuesday lunchtime because we had a voucher , the place was very busy but they managed to get us seated very quickly , our server mollie was very welcoming and helpful with my wife’s gluten allergy , we felt very at ease when ordering food . Service was very quick without feeling rushed. even seeing how busy it was that didn’t affect our experience , both left very happy will be returning soon

The food is always lovely and not too expensive. You can hear yourself speak. And the service is great.

Not somewhere we would return to. Real ale unavailable, meal was reasonably good but website advertised set menu which was not available. Staff were excellent especially Vicky.

Came in with friends, five of us. Had a variety of meals which were all nice. The service from molly was second to none, polite, friendly and attentive but not too intrusive. Will definitely be back!

I found this pub by accident whilst looking for somewhere to charge my car. What a result! Instead of sitting in the car on a service station forecourt i got to sit in a cracking pub, lots of space well looked after and furnished, great food and drinks and staff super friendly. Oh, and the car chargers are easy to use and fast charging. Will now be the only place I charge when im in Southend. What a find. 5 stars 🌟

Disappointed that no 0% gins were available, as many places offer a choice. The guy who served us seemed as if he couldn’t be bothered. His reply when I asked what zero gin he had, was ‘Zero’. No “Sorry we don’t stock any” So I was disappointed twice , by the lack of zero gin plus his unwelcoming attitude 🙁

The menu offered excellent value for money.

Been a few times and it’s just meh. Sometimes the service and food is great, and others it’s really poor. Just depends on the day. More times than not we’ve encountered lukewarm food that we’ve waited ages for and had to query after, and staff that don’t seem to care (wait staff as opposed to bar staff). If you go on a good day you’ll have a good time, but as locals we don’t want to go back again since we’re not guaranteed good food/service. Such a shame

Went in after receiving an offer of discount on main meals thought we would try it out Sat in a very crafty area Got a starter fairly quick then waited 55 mins for mains and it wasn’t that crowded in there Main roasts were not great vegetables hard Yorkshire over cooked Potatoes small and watery not crispy Meat the pre sliced you buy from a supermarket Overall disappointing visit Olivia our waitress was nice
