Great service from the lovely Vicky who seated us in a quiet spot when it was so busy. Understood our children’s needs with the food and was very helpful amongst the Christmas chaos being the only restaurant server we saw apart from drinks from the bar staff. Food was enjoyed. A few issues which Vicky sorted. Only gripe is how hot it always is in there. It’s quite uncomfortable each visit but always return as the kids like it.

Out with a group of friends, we had booked a table foe Dinner. I ordered Fish/chips. After waiting almost 30 minutes. My order arrived but only the Fish and peas. I asked where the chips were and was told that they were on there way. 10 minutes later after eating the fish the chips arrived, no apology! Now I get a response- No apology tho!

Ok, wasn't expecting the world but the service was poor and the food just about average but cold. Unfortunately we were allocated a table right by the toilet and seemingly out of the sight or consideration of the waiting staff. The pub was either understaffed or poorly managed as we waited for ages at every step and had to go up to the bar to ask to be served numerous times throughout. Food was ok but cold by the time it got to us and the coffee we ordered never arrived.

A group of us went here after a funeral for the wake. The food was fabulous and service was all good. Plenty of parking spaces.

What an amazing experience at The Saxon king! I highly recommend this pub. Great staff that go above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. I will be going back very soon.

Nice family pub/rotisserie. Lovely place to take children, lots of facilities outside in the garden area. Food is a bit 'hit and miss' depending which chef is on. Recently had chicken wings which had been reheated! They were tough and stringy. Husband had mixed grill, steak was rubbery. Think the menu needs to be reviewed.

I was put with a grouo of friends. We had decided to eat at your pub. I Ordered Fish/chips. Had a very long wait, when the food eventually arrived I was given a plate that just fish, peas a few lettuce leaves, NO CHIPS! I had to ask where the chips were, was told they were be arriving soon. 10 minutes late, still no chips. Another member of staff came and asked if everything was OK with the food. I had to ask again. The chips then turned up!!

It was amazing with Top Customer Service. Highly Reccomended

A Tale of Mrs Jekyll and Mr Hide. The food here is proper comfort fare - a chicken and mushroom pie that hits all the right notes, accompanied by fresh veg and mash that would make any Yorkshire nan give an approving nod. Simple, satisfying, and spot-on. Now, about the service... You might recognise our landlord from his local fame, making a charming appearance on BBC as a life-sized Yorkshire pudding. Unfortunately, on this day, he seemed more interested in reminiscing about his television debut than noticing a hungry customer. After briefly clocking my existence, he performed what I can only describe as an impressive vanishing act. But every cloud has a silver lining! A wonderful lady server stepped in, menu in hand, and saved the day with the kind of service that reminds you what Yorkshire hospitality is all about. She even offered an unexpected discount, having witnessed my brief stint as the pub's invisible guest. Food: 5/5 Hero Server: 10/10 The Landlord: Perhaps just having an off day... being magnanimous. P.S. Dear Landlord, being a local celebrity is great and all, but maybe focus less on being a Yorkshire Pudding costume and more on being a proper host? Just a thought from one of your invisible customers.

Went to Saxon King this afternoon for a Christmas Dinner, our waitress was Scarlett who was very attentive to our needs. The food was very nice and came out hot and we were not rushed to finish. Should have been a party of 4 but one had to work, there starter, dinner and dessert were put on a plate to bring home.

Terrible experience! We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food with no update at all. When we walked into the restaurant we should have been notified about a wait time on food. We went to the bar to order drinks twice whilst waiting for the food because the staff was not offering drinks to our table. When the food eventually came it was satisfactory not great at all! Half an hour after we had all finished eating we gave up on waiting for our plates to be collected from our table and just asked for the bill!

We always feel welcome and the service is always very good. Nothing ever seems to be to much hassle. Always has a good, nice, friendly atmosphere

Waited 20 mins for our drinks then had to ask for them and was not busy cut my mushroom and my plate was filled with black water gammon was very salty

We visited yesterday and enjoyed two delicious pizzas and drinks. The food was excellent, and the drinks complemented the meal perfectly. However, the service was slower than expected. It was clear that the waitress was working hard and doing her best, but she seemed overwhelmed with the high demand and despite arriving exactly at 1:30pm the service could not be kept to your 3pm table availability, we left 15 minutes after. We understand that busy periods can be challenging, and her effort was appreciated. Perhaps additional staff during peak times could help improve the overall experience. Despite the wait, we left happy with the quality of the food.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Its just a great place to go for food and a drink.

James arranged a healthy buffet with hot and cold food, fresh fruit for dessert for 26 people and it was absolutely amazing. Excellent food, service and great value for money, everyone had a great time, thank you 🙏

I used Saxon King for a venue for a wake and I must say I went for the gold option hot buffet and was definitely not disappointed. The whole party 20 of us thought the food and service was amazing it was all hot and very tasty. The pub setting was clean and the staff very Courteous. We were not rushed to finish our time slot and the made the sad reason for us being their very pleasant. Thank you to James for ensuring everything was as perfect as it could of been.

Great gluten menu with a good variety of foods to choose from. Good for families, friendly staff clean and tidy. Service was a little slow but apart from that it was good.

Missing from the Sunday roast.....braised red cabbage, pork and apricot stuffing (stuffing was there but powdery packet stuff) and cracking.....when we were there we remembered there was no crackling last time and said we would go back for the road but forgot!.

Just got in from having my mums birthday here. Service was slow and our server lacked in every way it's a shame as she didn't have many tables but was just absent. No smiles, no service. Mum had the scampi which she enjoyed. We had the steak and alle pie! Not too bad. Mash was a bit stingy and the veg was wrinkly and they forgot the peas. We had to flag our waitress down for drinks! We ordered puddings. The two toffee puds were bought out in a tiny bowl, no presentation at all and was way below the previous quality. I had the brownie Sunday which was £6.99 for three scoups of ice cream a flake and a 50p sized bit of sponge cake on top! Definitely not a brownie. I returned it uneaten and asked for it to be removed from my bill. The waitress and manager insisted it was a brownie off the children's menu whatever that means. However a brownie Sunday should have square chunks of actual brownie in it! Not a sprinkle of chocolate sponge onto. What a shame. No attempt to right it or please the customer. Sadly no tip left and we won't go back!

Great wheelchair access. Lovely food. Didn't wait to long to be seated or served food. Great staff. We had Vicky and she was very welcoming and made our experience a very enjoyable one. 10/10

We all came down for work drinks, and were severed by Vicky, the service was nothing short of excellent. We were greeted with a smile and served with haste, all while being entertained by a bubbly personality.

After going to beefeeter twice in the past week we thought we'd try the saxon king and was pleasantly surprised that the food was twice as nice so will definitely be returning ,the staff were also more attentive and vicky who served us was very pleasant and friendly lovely food ,staff and experience top notch

Last 2 visits lack of meat with roast it's all about the vegetables filling the plate. Not hot sent it back and still not that hot. Roast pork and no crackling but not told before ordering and meats were curled up and tasteless. Our table wasn't laid even though I had booked in advance so got our dinner and had no cutlery so took off another table. We will not be returning.

As a regular visitor we are please to say the staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is very good always hot and delicious. It's a very friendly pub prestaurant with a good atmosphere.

This is my 'local' and visit semi regularly for a couple of drinks in the evening. The staff are absolutely brilliant and there is plenty of seating for drinkers and diners alike. The food is hot and tasty and for 2024 will be going for lunch on Christmas day.

Got to our table at 3.00. We left at 3.25. we were not even ask for a drink by then, and it wasn't busy, never even said sorry for the wait, service awful. Would not go again.

First time here. It's a bit Harvesters type vibe. Warm earthy colours, lots of wood and old photos etc. Staff were pleasant enough and the food was very nice and served fairly quickly. We had the chicken and leek pie and very tasty it was too. £37 for 2 pies, a Guinness, a coke and a latte. I would go again and give it another go.

Just had dinner with 3 other family members and we all enjoyed every mouthful. I can definitely recommend the soup, cauliflower wings, sticky chicken and salt and pepper calamari to start. Mains was the steak and ale pie and 3 fish and chips. Everything was cooked fresh and was piping hot. We really all loved it. The fish was perfectly battered and not greasy, the chips were perfect and great value for money. We were all stuffed so unfortunately no room for pudding, but they did look good. Vicky served us tonight and she was just so friendly and attentive, another girl served us our food (never got her name) and she was a little diamond too. Will certainly be returning.

Disappointing, firstly the wrong drink was brought up to me, not what I had ordered. The staff though were friendly and corrected their mistake right away. Skipped starters and went to mains. My companions both chose the pizza, which looked very appetising served well with pizza wheels. My choice was the chicken tikka masala. The flavour was good and served with poppadom and naan bread, however it was very dry and I couldn’t eat all of it because of that. We opted for dessert, had a very long wait for the desserts to arrive. One of my companions went for the ice cream, the flavours were vanilla, blood orange and salted caramel. Modified to just the vanilla and blood orange, what arrived was vanilla and chocolate. Nice but not what was ordered, the other desserts were chocolate bomb and salted caramel sundae, they were very nice and enjoyable. There was a 30% discount voucher which we took advantage of. Not a perfect visit but a very nice venue and we will visit again soon.

Lovely pub, popped in for lunch recently food was amazing and possibly the best service I’ve ever received from a woman named Vicky, she was so attentive had a lovely bubble positive attitude and ensured me and my family had a lovely time, can not fault our experience will definitely be returning!

Ok so when we arrived there was a black napkin tissue on the floor. This was actually picked up upon leaving. The floors.look like they haven't been hoovered in a long time. Half of the condiments wasn't at the table, the table was sticky. It was started to be cleaned and forgotten about. Even other tables was going to an empty table for a full salt pot. As for the food. We had the ribeye steak. I asked for medium rare. It came out well done. I sent it back and to be fair what came out was amazing. Perfect steak, a full mushroom, as we only half on both plates before. And the gave us some onion rings as a way of apology. In all honesty I enjoyed the 2nd steak. But it seems the place is being held together by young adults. The cleanliness is appalling, 1st time food is appalling. Service was really good. Our server (didn't get her name but she had a burn scar on her face bless her) she was amazing. Full of smiles from start to finish. I think she is holding the place together from what I can see. Would I go back certainly not. If given the option of paying I wouldn't of but would have given the server a lovely tip. She deserves a lot of credit.

We went for a Sunday Roast today and the food was excellent. Our experience was enhanced by the excellent service that Vicky our server provided to us. Vicky was very personable, efficient and helpful in our choices.

We usually come here nearly every month for lunch, usually everything is very good, this time not so, after ordering we waited awhile for our drinks and 30 mins for our lunch, the veg on my Mum's plate was overcooked the peas were wrinkly and the mangetout was uneatable, carrots were done to within an inch of their lives, there was no green salad with the lasagne it was just a very small amount of lettuce nothing like what we had before, we then waited at least 30mins plus before waitress came back who offered us cheese biscuits coffee etc so we asked for dessert menu, two of us ordered some ice cream which wasn't quite right it had a funny taste and had icy bits in it, hard to explain really but that was also not eaten. Disappointed this visit, the food wasn't up to its usual standard and the waiting in between getting drinks to lunch and then desserts was much too long.

Lovely family dinner. Terrific food and friendly, helpful staff. Loved the sea bass and daughter really enjoyed her margarita pizza (and fries followed by chocolate sundae!).

Cheap and cheerful. The food is good value for money, but the upholstery could do with a renew programme.

Came up to visit family and they booked us a table at The Saxon King. I had the Mixed Grill. The food tasted amazing and they had very generous portions! The service was brilliant, the staff were very polite and treated us well throughout. Highly recommend! 👍🏻

Lovely restaurant, we come here often. Our waitress was lovely as we're all the staff but special thanks to the young man behind the bar who caught the huge spider that was under our table 😱. The side salad left a lot to be desired as the lettuce was black in parts but overall a lovely evening
