Management has her 3 children cleaning the shop during interviews and other members of the public clean the shop while children run around with brooms while she tells them off, can't enjoy coffee here won't be coming again

Always love visiting this Costa, coffee is the best around, and staff are all great

There are two Costas in Southend; today I visited the one near The Royals (further down the high street), though I have been to both cafes numerous times already. I ordered myself a Croissant and a Small Mocha. Great food as usual (I especially enjoy their seasonal Gingerbread and Vanilla & Coconut lattes), though toilets could always do with more frequent inspections/cleans. Suppose their current level of cleanliness is to be expected in any coffee shop though.

I have been in this branch many many times, and for the last year or so, the place has got SO many flies, it is actually disgusting! At one point, there were literally more flies than customers! It's bad enough that they're in the restaurant when people are eating, but they are also in the open-backed food cabinet....on the sticky sponge and muffins in particular. There are traps on the walls, but they're very obviously not working, which is nothing short of absolutely disgusting in a food and drink venue. I will be reporting this issue to The Foods Standards Agency if it's not addressed any time soon. Plus, as mentioned by others, the front door is totally smashed to pieces and has been like it for months. What sort of message does that send to anyone coming in?! It says that you don't give two hoots about standards......profit over safety or anything else. What a disgusting way to run a major coffee shop chain! It might be wrapped in cling film, but it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt....and you get sued to the hills and back!!!!

Always huge queues in this place. The lovely staff have had hours cut and are run off their feet. Glass in the main front door has been completely shattered and covered in cellophane for months, with no sign of being repaired.

Costa Coffee Southend-on-Sea Overpriced and rude Soon as you walk in, it looks dirty and grubby. Went in early in the morning to kill time and grab a latte and a bite. First young lady who took the order was very amiable, moved on with my tray to second women who took payment and what a contrast. Bit my head off because I took "their" brown sugar from the counter and told "yours" is over there! Took the order and sat down to eat and the croissants were stale, My partner took them back to be told by same rude person that " they are fresh" ! Will not be using that place again. My advise, stay away over price and use Neros up the road, so much friendlier.

The staff at both this costa and the one by the royals work so bloody hard and, let's face it, get treated like peasants by the public. Deserve much more recognition - Would never be able to keep my cool making 101 different moccatinos with 30 onlooking Karen's waiting.

Excellent service and great coffee

I had a lovely time when I had my coffee. The young lady was particularly pleasant and helpful I appreciate the nice, polite attitude.

MY Sister has a caffeine addiction and I come with her evy Saturday and get a blueberry muffin it's nice but prices are very high

This is one of the Costa Coffee Cafes where I have yet to feel like I am not a valued customer. Their drinks are always immaculately made and the service that that staff give can only want you to come back again and again. A particular piece of feedback for Millie who served me this morning. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and thank you for delivering a service with a smile 🙂

If you like Iced Mocha that tasted like dishwater and luke warm Cappuccino then this is the place for you. Service was the slowest we have ever had in a Costa and the coffees were terrible. We were going to complain but since we were in a hurry and the painfully slow service had built up a big queue we figured life was too short to get into a fight there. We generally quite like Costa but from now on maybe just in other towns.

Busy, noisy, ..not many power sockets.

A change from our usual places. Just dropped in for a quick coffee. With the number of people behind the counter, service was a bit slow, but the coffee was good.

Nice caramel and marshmallow cake. Had 2 bits. Plus use of toilet

Having earned a free drink, I went in to Costa Coffee on Southend High Street for an iced ginger drink. Was told by its manager that particular drink wasn’t set up in their register, so couldn’t be served for FREE, but I could purchase it…even when I showed her the promotional email with an image and description of an iced ginger drink. Classic bait & switch by Costa Coffee, they should be reported to Trading Standards office for false advertising. A bad customer experience, I’ll choose STARBUCKS henceforth.

My place to sit and look like a sophisticated woman with her life together, when actually I'm sitting playing Pokémon Go and contemplating which video game to buy next. Love it here it's very cosy and the staff and friendly. The food and drink is also fab!

Coffee is lovely and I love the gluten free brownie (main reason I go) but the service is shocking. Put vanilla in my latte instead of my daughter's hot chocolate and said "is it ok to have that and I'll just add vanilla to the hot chocolate?" Errr no, or I would have ordered it with vanilla! Toilets disgusting as usual, no change there.

A recent face-lift has meant the cafe is refreshed but it does seem as though the Costa brand needs to think more about the experience... we were told at 16:15 we would be served coffee in takeaway cups as they were closing at 17:00.

Good service and clean store but non of the staff was wearing the hair net or the beard net. I hope on my next visit they will wear it.

I'd recommend fly spray! The cakes were covered but seeing scores of flies crawling over the menu boards and coffee machines was pretty off-putting.

Very rude staff with an attitude problem, I taken the wrong drink by accident, it was my fault. But the lady had horrible attitude and talked to me like a child like I was slow or something off the bottom of her shoe. End of the day I was a customer, I made a mistake, if I did that to a customer in my line of work I would of got fired, it was really inappropriate behaviour. I am never going back to this company again, time to invest in my own coffee machine.

The lady serving was so unfriendly and no customer care what so ever. she was blunt and so unwelcoming. The service was email paced and just out of sync with the bigger Costa up the road. So now to avoid this particular branch and head back to the friendlier one.

Popped in Saturday morning for a coffee. Nobody at the door to advise around seating/ordering. My mum sat down at a table and I queued to order, later told that we had to queue outside due to the place being too full. As we queued outside people then began entering the premises and nobody told them that the queue was outside so ultimately jumped in front of us. Staff then did not clear the tables sufficiently and were not monitoring the seating area at all. In the end we decided to leave as did not feel that it was covid secure. I understand they may be under pressure on a Saturday morning but someone co-ordinating things at the door would make it a lot better.

We we’re a family of four (2 adults and 2 children) once we entered no one was at the door to run us through the protocols of Covid so we took a seat, once seated a very rude server approached us saying we had to all go to the queue to order and then seat down! So we said how come as there’s other couples and families just walking in and seating down without being told the same! the server just said because I saw you first........ This is by far unacceptable behaviour, the way she approached us and she kept speaking over us all the time which was very rude. Customer service lacking!!!

My first venture out to Costa’s since March, due to Covid-19, the staff were very professional & extremely aware of the guidelines It was very reassuring & I’d highly recommend this venue

There was a bit of a queue when I had selected a sandwich I was going to have toasted along with my coffee. More staff and efficient ones needed at the time as the orders began to pile up. Coffee was alright

Southend high St is a drab strip of mainly run down shops leading towards pier and sea front. This branch is one of the larger I’ve visited and so plenty of seating (very welcome on the miserable day we visited!) and it felt light and airy due to the large glass panels running along two sides - it’s well positioned on a corner of the Royals shopping centre. Service was prompt and offerings what you would expect from this chain coffee shop. Enjoyed hot drinks and cake whilst waiting for the rain to pass over.

Popped in for a quick coffee and cake. The place was clean and well maintained as expected and we were served quickly. There is room for a pram in here which is useful as a lot of the local coffee shops are a bit kitch and don't have much room.All in all we were happy with our visit and received the usual Costa coffee service.

My wife and I visit this coffee shop regularly,and the staff are always friendly,helpful,and will go that extra mile to make our visit so much better.This is why we have our coffee here.Good choice of drinks and cakes.Well worth a visit.Derek. OAP. Westcliff on sea

We stopped at Costa Coffee in Southend airport for a coffee between flights and the barista, Josh made our day. Open, friendly, chatty and smiley. We’ve had a really long couple of days of travelling and we were feeling a bit down trodden. We walked away feeling so much better.

My Wife and I went to this Costa today and we are regular visitors to various Costa's but can only say that we weren't overly impressed by this one. Coffee ☕️ great as normal and the service was also excellent but the place was messy and the tables sticky. Then one of the ladies behind the service area came out to clear some of the tables and the noise was unbelievable. We are not old fuddy duddies so it's not us, everyone couldn't believe the noise she was making. Having a coffee and chat should be a pleasurable experience not a chore. Needs improvement defo.

We visited today and the service was excellent. Whilst we were sitting down enjoying our drinks a colleague walked past and saw that my daughter couldn’t pick up her hot chocolate and came over and asked us if we wanted to put the drink in to a disposable cup to make it easier for her to hold . A very kind gesture that should they care about there customers

Had breakfast at Costa Coffee yesterday good value two flat whites and 2 toasts for 7:30 first class.

As a Canadian who enjoys his Starbucks, Costa seemed to be the place to go across Great Britain.I found this one on the Southend High Street to be dirty inside, including our table, but the coffees and specialty drinks were tasteful, so no negative comments there!

Just been to Costa in Southend terrible experience,table dirty with ingrained grease not just surface grease toilets disgusting and water on floor, sausage rolls served straight from the fridge had to take the roll back to be heated, croissants on the service counter in the open by the till small fly on one of the pastries very below par for an expensive coffee bar,I won't be returning and how they got that many stars I will never know,

Visited costa for my favourite Christmas coffee gingerbread late!Staff so friendly and helpful.I was very impressed and happy!!Well done guys😁😁

Was served promptly and not too long to wait for food. I had the brie cranberry and bacon sandwich which was lovely. The place was very busy but kept clean and tidy by the staff. friendly staff too.

Ordered 2 flat whites and a cappuccino - they were not nice. I’m sure the barista forgot the coffee. They were like drinking hot milk

I use Costa on Southend High Street every day, and used various others around Essex on a regular basis. The staff at the High Street branch are the most friendly and helpful I have come across. The service is always swift regardless of the time of day, or how busy they are. Kirsty the store Manager is always assuring her staff keep inside and outside tables are clean and clear of empties

Disgusting..... will never go again . I am sure we don't even see this clean plate ,cutlery and tray in the Drain. #costa

Always a delicious coffee whatever variety you choose. Delicious array of cakes and biscuits along with porridge for breakfast or sandwiches for lunch. Great meeting place for everyone.

Great service, So happy that I've changed store, the Royals was rude and unclean but now I always feel welcome with the friendly staff. The store is a lot cleaner and there is always a wide selection of food. Staff are also very fast.

Cheerful and friendly staff, furniture a bit dated compared to some of their newer outlets. But still my choice for a perfect coffee.

I ordered tea. It came in the dirtiest tea pot I have ever seen. I took it back, asked for a clean one. I got another tea pot, still dirty. Didn't even get a sorry from the staff!!! Unacceptable!!!!

I love costa, i go in at least once a month, ome times it does get busy and can be loud, but ehat do you expect it's a coffee shop. i will tell you this for nothing you get much better and quicker service here then the one in the Royals. Keep up the good work

Usually go to costa by the royals but decided to give this one a try. Lovely coffee as always, but it was not such a good atmosphere. Wasn't as comfy and relaxed and loads of tables needed clearing and wiping down. Will go to royals in future.

Popped in for a coffee took about 10 minutes to come up with 1 cappachino and 1 bottle of orange juice .

This is another of the Costa Coffee houses that provides a good fast service, but it can be very noisy at times.

I have been to Costa plenty of times to have my favorite drink which is hot chocolate which i really enjoy! But I have enjoyed this one more than any other. The staff were very happy and welcoming and the place was very clean and tidy I would love to come here again!

I order a butter croissante, when I saw some fly eating croissante, than I cancelled order, disgusting dirty hot chocolate glass .

Dreadful weather meant that I ducked into the Costa Coffee instead of my preferred cafe further down the High Street. It was approximately 4.25 pm and in response to my question as to whether it was my drinks being distributed in takeaway cups, the manager grunted back in response that they were short of staff and could not get the cups washed in time. This clearly was not true as one of the staff was repeatedly bringing full trays of clean crockery from the kitchen and stacking them in readiness for the next day. I suggest that they wanted to get away on time when they closed for the day and preferred to dispose of throwaway cups rather than load the dishwashers. I wouldn't have minded had I received a less surly response nor if a price adjustment had been made to take account of this. In future I shall make the effort to go the distance to the Caffe Nero where I know I will get good service with a smile and a proper cup!

I drink Costa Coffee everywhere. Here, early morning so no problems with dirt etc, but for some reason coffee did not gave the same taste. I'd tried the specialNicuraguan blend on promotionthe day before and really liked it. But sadly this did not have same taste. Staff also not very welcoming. ..as though it was a chore to be at work!

I am surprised how unfriendly the staff here, some of the young men make an effort and the manager sometimes breaks a smile but there are a couple of real miseries in here.

Visited on a Sunday morning with the family and there were a number of other young families enjoying the experience, there seemed to be more space around the tables than normal - good for push chairs etc. All the normal Costa offerings but in a more family friendly environment.

I have been going to Costa Coffee as long as I can remember as I find it one of the best. However, whenever I go here the atmosphere is poor, the place is untidy and is in disarray. Ok the coffee is up to standard as are the cakes but for me you need more than that in a Coffee House. I regret this falls down somewhat.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I do like visiting Costa Coffee however, this branch at the weekend is ludicrous!

Been going to both Costa Coffee on top of high street and one by the Royals in Southend for long time maybe since they first opened (not just my last visit in October 2014)....always enjoyed my drinks and food (if I do buy food on the off chance), the service is good as the relaxing environment too, I know some people say Costa is expensive,......but have you seen the prices for instance at Patisserie Valerie (while I not got anything against them) where you pay more and still get roughly same amount and IMO it don't quite taste as nice as the offerings at Costa Coffee, oh the Costa loyalty card helps !

Another good place to get to get coffee fraps and drinks from as good as Starbucks as value nice staff quick service and nice coffee.

I and many people I know love costa coffee but always have the same problem why is it that when ever we enjoy a good coffee we have to come out smelling of smoke?

Hi. I came here recently at the end of December 2013 and it was a good visit. The prices for drinks are fair and we got a comfy seat where we could sit down and drink tea and have cake. We stayed for a little while. Clean, tidy, polite staff. Will definitely return.
