Saxon Bar in Christchurch

This micro pub has good service and a good atmosphere, with a good range of beer.

First visit. Great "micropub" in quite a good location. Prices not too bad, beers v. good.

Excellent micropub in superb location. Superb range of 4 cask beers poured from gravity in the cold room, alongside 8 keg and key keg taps, all at very reasonable prices. The fridge looked varied as well. As ever with micropubs it’s the atmosphere and the personality of the venue that makes it - an hour after the 4pm opening time on a Wednesday it was busy and continued to be during my time there, resulting in a great atmosphere. Another fabulous touch was putting water and glasses on each table - this should be the standard. I also enjoyed, strangely, the men’s urinal, brilliantly made out of a barrel and labelled Carlsbog (reminiscent of another micropub which has a Doom Bar pump as a flusher). Overall, a fabulous venue I would highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

Super cosy little craft bar. Great beers, fun atmosphere. Lots of local craft beers and a well stocked fridge. Great view of Christchurch roundabout too.

Great selection of beers poured direct from the casks. A few really good things in the fridge too which is where imperial stout lives like us usually end up. And we were not disappointed! Thanks chaps, enjoyed both visits hugely!

Best place for beer in Christchurch. I spend a chunk of time in this area and manage perhaps 6 or 7 visits a year to this cracking micropub. They normally have between 3 and 5 real ales on and lots more craft beers. Many beers are from local breweries and it’s a friendly place with a blend of locals and visitors. A wide range of ciders and gins are also available. Dog friendly as well and you will often find a wagging tail under one of the tables.

Very lucky to have the Saxon a few minutes walk from my house. If ciders are your thing, then I think there are normally about 12 to choose from. The large selection of craft ales is constantly being changed, so every time you pop in, there'll be new ones to try out. The owner and all the staff are very friendly and have a very good knowledge of the ales. The customers are also a friendly bunch, so basically a great place for a beer and a chat.

Lovely wide range of real beer keg and cast options. (Also gins and wine) Friendly and efficient service in a small pub with great atmosphere. An absolute must visit for drinks if visiting Christchurch. (No kids)

I frequent the Saxon Bar quite regularly on a weekend but just lately I've felt like my business isn't valued ,as the owner can often be very abrupt bordering on unfriendly .I have wondered if maybe the hospitality business isn't really for him !

A fantastic little place nestled away in Christchurch. The selection here is fantastic and the owner clearly knows his beers/ciders/rum and gin. Very welcoming and definitely shaping up to be a regular go to.

tis was the only bar in christchurch where i felt at home, much more laid back the other places we went but the main thing was the quality of the beer had some really nice pints in there

We have now moved away from Christchurch and we really miss the Saxon in more ways than one. It's friendly welcome and always be able to serve a good stout at the correct temperature along with a wide variety of other beers and gins.

Small, friendly and welcoming bar, with a great range of beers, both cask and key keg, and a good choice of ciders. Some snacks are also available, or you can take your own food in to eat. Well worth a visit.

Superb range of cask and keg ales, great atmosphere

Many people are not comfortable here which is nice? It's not so much the astonishing selection of things to drink but rather whether one likes Colman's or The Other One with the pork pie - the place could do with a couple of obnoxious overbearing bouncers in black but the dedicated staff seem to be able deal with all of the muggings despite pouring hundreds of drinks and running all over the place keeping everything where it belongs. I do wonder if the staff training manual has to be online like Wikipedia or such. If I've confused anyone I apologise from the heart of my bottom. Live music Tonight? Will anyone have the time?

This is a simple friendly little bar. They lead with a good variety of quality cask ales. Unlike others of this new breed of independent real ale bars, they are not totally obsessed with beers that taste of, chocolate, grapefruit or coffee. At the Saxon Bar there is generally a choice of strengths of beers that taste of malt and hops! Keep it up.

Lovely little bar always got a decent beer or 2 on and a very cosy nice atmosphere perfect for a nice social drink.

It serves good selection of beers from micro brewers. It's very basic inside. You go for the beer selections and conversation. Mobile phones frowned on. Seating is difficult on busy nights.

Back for another visit. All the beers were good. The Salvation from one Mile End brewery was superb and the broken dreams stout which is a champion beer of Britain was delicious but potent at 6.5%. Friendly staff and customers, great location.
