Sauté Restaurant in St Albans

Had my daughter's 21st here last night - staff were amazing - so accommodating, helpful, polite and courteous. Food absolutely gorgeous - 23 of us and everybody loved their meal. We had a really great, fun night. Thank you to all the staff but special thanks to Otman and Claudia

Went to sauté this evening for my friends 60th birthday. It was a large group of 12 so we had to pre-order our food, which was more expensive than the original price and a change in menu, 2 weeks before we were due to visit. After we arrived it took them over 45 minutes to bring our drinks out. When our mains came out, mainly shish/mixed shish, there was no rice or salad included, just simply 4 or 5 cubes of meat. When I asked the waitress about this, she said the meat was now served on a bed of vegetables, this was 2 pieces of courgette, a slice of onion and a slice of pepper. This was not sufficient as a main meal, especially as rice/chips/salad were not included and the price was more. The service was slow. We waited 2 hours before our mains were served and it wasn’t even that busy. The food had a 10% service charge which we paid at the time of placing our order but then they tried to place a 20% charge service on our drinks bill which in the end, we refused to pay. I don’t mind paying service for just that, good service but the mains without the sides as you would expect was a complete rip off, £24 for 3 cubes of chicken, 2 of lamb with little else. I will not be returning to this restaurant again.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise to a generally average St Albans dining experience. Amazing, high quality Turkish food, which was very reasonably priced. The service, run by this family business was also warm and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Drove 35 minutes to come here to find out it’s closed when on Google Maps it says open.

I recently dined at Sauté and had a fantastic experience. The staff was friendly, the ambiance was inviting, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the Moroccan Lamb Shank, which was perfectly prepared. The service was prompt and attentive. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I would happily repeat.

Excellent food, good service, very enjoyable meal. Particularly good range of starters. Tip would be phone for booking as on-line said no tables but when phoning there was!

The food is very delicious, the service is fast and the employees are friendly, especially the meat is very delicious. Finally, you should try their baklava.

Superb as always. Excellent quality - one of us had sea bass which was fresh, hot and delicious. The other had wings, rice and salad. Fab. The delivery is just as brilliant as the restaurant has always been.

Positives first. Background music was very nice. Atmosphere was calm but it was probably about the small number of people in the restaurant (only two tables were occupied including ours at about 7pm). Waiter was respectful. Baklava was really nice. Negatives: portions were quite small. We went for a vegetarian platter for two and left the restaurant a bit less than full, considering we both are slim and one of us is quite a small person. Also, when we came home we realised that we were charged £4.50 extra for an Efes Pilsener which we didn't have. Not sure if I will want to go back anytime soon.

Fantastic service, great food and large portion sizes. Would recommend if you’re looking for a nice restaurant.

We went to the saute restaurant for the first time last Friday evening, the restaurant has a great atmosphere, the food was delicious, the service was great, I recommend you to try the hot appetizer plate, thank you we had great time.

the wrong food was sent and the restaurant said it was just eat fault, i phoned and the problem was sorted but will not use this place again £19 for a king prawn cocktail and we both got 3 not good value for money

I ordered the monk fish @ £20, I know it has become quite expensive to buy. However, to have 3 small cubes of fush seemed mean for the money. My wife's lamb chops were quite hard and tough as well.

Was ok. I thought the food was pretty bland and not well presented. We had a good night tho. Bit pricey too.

Amazing place. They were really kind letting us decorate the place for our lunch celebration.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, and the restaurant was completely empty. The waiter was friendly and polite. There is not an awful lot of choice on the menu, to be honest, but we kept it simple. The food took forever to come, and considering the restaurant was empty, it was unacceptable. When the food came, we didn't know if we should laugh or cry. The portion was ridiculously small. A platter for 2 people was £40 which is a relatively normal price, but this was barely enough for one person, let alone two. It was actually insulting that anyone would think that is acceptable to seve. We ordered a side of fried courgettes that was near enough one of the worst things I have eaten. The chips were covered in salt, which left an awful taste. The meat was soft and relatively tasty. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They are trying to be a gourmet restaurant, but the reality is they sell kebabs, overpriced small portions.

Absolute rip off!! Portions are tiny, we had a mixed for 2, 2 main courses and some other stuff for a party of 4. I must admit what they consider portion for 2 is actually for one. Way overpriced! It's more like French cuisine than a Turkish restaurant when it comes to price. Big plates and tiny portions. Chips were literally diving in salt. Salad was awful. Rice was overcooked. Meat was just ok. Service is exceptionally slow. We just paid the bill left and never going back! In case the owner wants to check the cc tv we were the party of 4, the only table occupied in the whole restaurant on 03.09.23. You know the one table with big plates and specimens of food in the middle.

Went for a Turkish breakfast on a Sunday morning. Great value for money as I didn't need to eat again all day!.

After spending 165 pounds , I had to go an eat home again , very expensive not enough food , , charging for service , what service worthless , the worts restaurant I’ve been for a very long time , I never go there again ,

We were invited to a wedding reception last Friday evening and the whole evening was amazing.

Not worth the money honestly fare to expensive

I can honestly say this was awsome food 😋 - Pan seared Scollops with Aubergine Puree - Mixed Grill, Chicken and Lamb Shish, Lamb Chop, Adana, and Chicken Wings - Avocado, Tomato, and Red Onion Salad The scollops were cooked well, the sauce was cold, which I was not expecting that but the taste and contrasts were really good. Mixed Grill was a tasty good potion with quality meats, but I would have liked more than one lamb chop. Meat was marinated well and super juicy with individual tastes. Salad was simple and tasty with the addition of Tahini. It's a really good touch. Simple is always the best way 😌 Highly recommended this place, wide range of options including vegetarian options. The service was great. The bloke was on his own, but he didn't miss a beat. Thank you for a great meal and wonderful service. I am looking forward to visiting again when I am down this way

Food was absolutely amazing, it was our first visit and we had the set menu, which was very cheap for the quality of food we got. Definitely would go again, probably now my favourite restaurant in St Albans! Baklava for dessert in particular was phenomenal.

Quite ashamed that never been to this tucked away restaurant, which the owner tells me has been open for many years. It describes itself as Turkish, but there are lots of other Mediterranean influences. The menu is understated and not too overwhelming with choice, but what we ordered was delicious. We had mushrooms in white wine sauce for starter and I had gnocchi in tomato sauce for main. My friend had a meat kebab. The portion sizes were perfect and the flavours amazing. I also had a lychee cocktail. It was too sweet for me, but my friend who has better taste buds than me said it was nice. The waiting staff were very attentive, including the manager. My only request would be to have more vegetarian options. I also would like to know if eg red peppers could be left out of items but I forgot to ask; they seemed to be in lots of the dishes. Otherwise, really very impressed, and hope to be able to make their 6th anniversary celebration.

Food was good, let down by service not particularly attentive and its not a cheap place so would expect a bit better on the service front.

Very good restaurant with fantastic food and staff

Very calm and serenely located Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant, the staff were courteous and accommodating, beautiful ambience, and the most important bit, affordable and tasty meals. I visited on a week day evening, and didn’t need a reservation so there were a lot of unoccupied seats, and few patrons present. It’s a strictly halal restaurant so if you have reservations you should be assured you’re covered. I’ll definitely be visiting again sometimes soon. (Shoutout to the man from Morocco who served us and told us the best times of the year to visit Morocco and spend as little as possible, you’re the MVP)

Service was bad from the second I walked in, rude member of staff male with circle glasses. Sat me down didn’t even say hi or say just this way to the table just walked off straight away, never explained it was bar service and not table service. Him and the two other girls behind the bar were just stood chatting. Never asked us was everything ok or asked did we need anything else. Cold restaurant, loud music and couldn’t have a catch up with a friend, I definitely wont be returning. Food was standard and disappointing.

Have been to this restaurant on many occasions, and absolutely always had a good night, and excellent service, but tonight 21/1/23 was very disappointing, the service was poor, waited ages to order a drink, was never asked if all was ok, was served the wrong coffee, ordered bread which we did not need as came with starter but was charged, not sure I will go back sadly.also it was cold in the restaurant

The restaurant was quiet for a Saturday lunchtime but both the food and service were excellent. We ordered the dover sole, which was perfectly cooked and expertly taken off the bone at the table, the swordfish, which was very tasty, and the lamb shank, which fell off the bone. The lobster soup starter was delicious, and the scallops and crab starters were both excellent. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. Very reasonably priced such great quality ingredients. Thank you.

We wanted to thank you for hosting our birthday party for 19 people. We were all sitting at 1 table, which looked beautiful. Food was delicious-I loved my seabass for main and king prawns starter, beautify served, staff was kind, attentive and efficient. We all have been very impressed how amazingly restaurant was dealing with such a big group of people. Thst was our second experience in Sauté Restaurant and we will definitely come back. Thank you.

Would not recommend. We booked a table for 18 people, including 8 children (under age of 12). This was mentioned at the time of booking on the phone. We arrived slightly late and were seated on two separate tables. A frown on the face of the manager/owner from the start. We arrived at 9.50pm and were told the kitchen closes at 9.30pm but they kept it open till 10pm for us. We had 10 mins to order for 18 people! We ended up getting platters. Initially we ordered 4 platters and a few starters and drinks then the waiter appeared after 5 mins saying ‘we need to order more as we have taken up two tables’. So we ordered another 2 platters. I don’t see why the staff at any restaurant should dictate how much food we should order and there is no mention of a minimum spend for large parties on their website. Food arrived. Very small portions per platter. The children were talking amongst themselves, the restaurant was very loud and was hard to hear each other over the noise. We also noticed someone had turned up the music volume, as we were sat right next to the speakers. The manager came and asked us to ask the children to be quieter. the children were not being loud or ‘naughty’ to begin with anyway. So anyway this manager then came another two times complaining that the children are loud and they are getting complaints. we were on a separate side of the restaurant to other customers so no idea how it affected other customers. This put a downer on our meal. The children didn’t enjoy themselves, we didn’t either. The manager couldn’t wait to get us out the door. We spent a good £400 on average food and terrible customer service. If there were issues with children attending then this should have been made clear on the phone when booking or on the website - we would’ve happily found an alternative place. Rest assured, we won’t be returning. The customer service especially by the manager was awful. The waiter was so lovely and understanding though.

Really lovely service in a nice setting. I don't really blame them for the lack of vegan/vegetarian options but a reheated vegetarian moussaka? Judging by the absence of flavour and the state of the potatoes maybe frozen and reheated? Thank you for not charging for the dish. Unfortunately my family were not very happy with the lamb shank. Costco maybe? I feel terrible for a business having to cope with the current circumstances but such high prices for moderate quality food is not satisfactory. You are lovely people.

Best Turkish restaurant in St Albans. Been here so many times and it’s always incredible. Lamb shish and Swordfish are always our fav. But hands down the winner is always the service, never had a bad experience here and we always look forward to coming back. Tonight Mohammed in particular was a delight :)

We've been here several times before when it was a super Turkish restaurant. Not sure what it wants to be now because the menu seems pretty western to me and much reduced. The Turkish starters were great, the desserts OK but my veggie mousakka was bland and boring and I thought the fish platter was overcooked, although my husband disagreed. Afraid we won't be back.

Attended Sauté restaurant on Mother's Day this year - never ate here before and the food, hospitality and ambience was terrific. Excellent food, the welcome and service was amazing - especially Mohammed - thank you for accommodating 10 of us and a baby! Will be back again :)

We booked a work meal last Friday and had a fantastic experience. Although there was another party of 10-12 who arrived at the same time, the food still came out quickly and the service was very good. Food was delicious - the octopus starter amazing!

First time visit to St Albans and this restaurant was recommended. A lovely meal, staff were so accommodating to our party and were fabulous with our children. Really made my birthday celebrations feel very special.

Had a lovely evening at Sauté. Attentive and courteous staff and a super allergy friendly menu. I was offered gluten free bread automatically when I mentioned my coeliac disease. Most of all, food was cooked to perfection. Juicy grilled meat and the octopus is the best I have tasted. Thank you everyone at Sauté.

Food was very good. The only real criticism I would say is that dishes on the menu are not always as described. My daughter picked a meal that was OK she thought, as she has major allergies with lots of food, and it came with an item that she's allergic to, but wasn't included in the meal description on the menu. We had to pick our meals beforehand as we were on tight 2 hour time slots as the restaurant gets so busy. They did change the meal taking the item out which was good, but obviously she had to wait a while for her food

Lovely Turkish place hidden away in St Albans - the decor here was stunning green and the staff were attentive. The food was second to none. Enjoyed my experience here. Will be back!

Food is delicious! We had halloumi cheese and filo pastry filled with spinach and feta as starters. Then lamb shish kebab and a speciality with eggplant and meat. Service is very good and waiters are really warm and nice

Really superb service and food! Mo and his team made our family feel so welcome today for my Mums birthday, nothing was too much trouble and the food was stunning. I can’t recommend this place enough, we will be back again soon.

Super Turkish restaurant tucked away on Adelaide Street in St Albans. Lovely ambience, crisp white tablecloths and napkins, Great service. Very attentive and courteous. We had the vegetarian platter for mains which was an excellent choice ( moussaka, baba ganoush, halloumi, falafel etc ) and salmon with roast vegetables. Both were good. The complementary pitta bread was freshly made served with a chilli and a garlic yogurt dip. Salad was fresh and crisp. This place is popular so do book a table. Great choice for a special occasion as well.

We booked this restaurant to meet up with friends we had not seen for while. Also because their gluten free options are clearly labelled on the menu. The food was delicious and quickly served by lovely staff. Despite this I would not go back- they had a DJ on all night (even as early as 7pm) and the music was very loud. We could not hear the waiter let alone eat other speak. Spent the night shouting even though we asked them to turn it down. They really should advertise party nights and try some quieter evenings. Ambient music is lovely but we did not book to go to a nightclub.

Nothing special. Went for a company Christmas meal. Naturally the place was packed, but despite ordering in advance, service was slow and desserts were not freshly made on site.

This seems to be a popular eatery because all the tables were occupied. However, it was quite a wait for starters and mains. I had scallops for my starter and shared a platter for my main. The standard of the food was average but the staff were friendly.

Excellent food and cold meze, with a very nice selection of Eastern European wines. I thought the music was too loud and modern, out of character with the rest of the venue, and hence the 4 stars, but otherwise the food and service were excellent.

This eatery is set off a side road as you get into the center of St Alban's. Parking is good just to the side but if that is full, the multi-storey is only about 150mtrs away. The restaurant is fairly inviting and staff greet you warmly as you arrive. The incandescent lighting gives the place an orange glow which is good for ambiance but will impact pictures taking. What I liked... Good prices, apart from 1 dish (which was returned) everything was tasty, cocktails are lovely and staff are very friendly What I disliked... Only 1 toilet (2 if you include disabled), cutlery arriving in sealed bags, mains did not all arrive together (there we 10 of us), ABBA medley, sticky table tops and the waiter pouring my cider and then disappearing with the bottle whilst I was in conversation 😩. Nothing wrong with ABBA but it was too loud and a odd choice for a Turkish menu but each to their own I guess. As for the cutlery in sealed bags... I'd consider that a nice 'health conscious' decision if it was persisted throughout the courses but as it was only present for starters, of was just a little strange bordering on pointless. I guess the sentiment was there. It's not bad by any means just not quite great 🙂.

Very nice Turkish restaurant. They have outside seatings with heat lamps. The staff was very friendly and professional, and the food was great.
